we look to the rest of the year with a quiet confidence for the industry. Companies across the globes have invested

heavily in cold-chain innovations to prevent the loss of perishable foods and goods. In 2017 alone more than $18bn was earned in the food and grocery market within the US. This has meant huge growth for specialist equipment such as refrigerated trucks, railway wagons, and air cargo containers, which are now becoming more common for many forwarders throughout the industry. In the UK temperature-controlled cargo is steadily on the rise. Cold storage in refrigerated warehouses is something of which companies throughout the pharma and food industries have increasingly seen the benefits. Liverpool and N. Wales have both seen an influx of cold and hot storage facilities, offering stowing temperatures of -35°C to +35°C, with the added benefit of not needing planning permission to install. With a plethora of ports and interconnected road and rail services,

In balance to the English influence, X2’s event places a very Thai spin on the regular Gala Dinner. Plenty of networking conferences are held in Thailand and the typical Thai element has been a traditional Thai dance performance. X2 is is going in a different direction for their event. The X2 Team will be bringing a floating market to guests. Boats loaded with food will be crossing a lake at the venue during the dinner to provide a delicious meal and memorable experience. Guest entertainment and experience won’t be the only elements to be elevated during the 5th Annual X2 Conference 2018. The event will host an array of insurance, tech startups, airlines, and network partners from other industries who will be providing unique and exclusive opportunities to the members of X2 Logistics Networks. From hot air balloons and a floating market to airlines and tech startups. The 5th Annual X2 Conference will be very different alternative logistics networking event that is designed to facilitate the forming and strengthening of business relationships but avoid the monotony of the standard logistics network event. The agenda has been designed to address some of the most important issues facing Transport, Warehouse, HR and Training Managers, as well as Forklift and LGV driving Instructors. For example, one seminar will cover ‘Forklift training myths – when to train, when not to train’, exploring and dispelling the common misconceptions about materials handling equipment training which could be costing businesses money, or exposing them to risk. Another essential session for training professionals ‘Managing behaviours in training’ provides Learning & Development professionals with the chance to learn more about the reasons behind trainee and employee behaviour, and how to work with different communication styles, plus identify the role of emotions in behaviour.

BE SURE TO COMPLY WITH ALL REGULATIONS

This may seem obvious to any forwarder, but making sure you are up to date with all of the regulations surrounding perishable goods being shipped is vital to a smooth distribution process. Forwarding regulations regarding perishable goods have changed a lot in the last few years, so making sure you know exactly what you can and cannot do is vital. For example, being aware that dry ice is now classified under dangerous goods could save you a lot of money and legal.

PACK CAREFULLY

Making sure that you pack your cargo correctly will help ensure your perishable goods arrive intact. A tightly packed container may seem to be the efficient options, but one with just enough room for perishable goods to breathe and move slightly will mean fresher goods upon arrival. Your goods could be in transit for up to 72 hours, depending on how you send them, so ensuring that they aren’t already perishing on there way to their destination is essential. ASK THE EXPERTS

TEMPERATURE CONTROLLED

The shipping of perishable goods was tricky in the past but everyone is doing it successfully these days. People can order chocolates and fruits from a different state or country and it would still arrive fresh at their doorstep. If you ship perishables which require temperature control, protection from extreme temperatures, space ventilation or humidity, you must consider shipping them in a reefer container. These are excellent for shipping a wide range of items that require special maintenance at a set temperature. In this article, we will look at some best practices for shipping perishable goods efficiently.

1

The cargo must be kept in a warehouse at the same temperature that you want them to be at when they reach their destination. This is critical as it ensures that

the cargo is maintained at the right temperature from the beginning to the end.

2

The next factor you must consider includes finding out if your warehouse would be using a cold tunnel or not. If you use a cold tunnel, it would be ok to pre-cool the reefer,

however, you should not pre-cool the reefer if you are not planning to use a cold tunnel. This is because pre-cooling the reefer container

refrigerators. A reefer container is not meant to cool down the perishable products but is rather designed to keep them at the right temperature as they are initially getting loaded in the equipment. Reefers are designed to transport temperature-sensitive cargo and have more insulation as compared to regular ocean cargo ships.

Next, pay attention to packaging and stuffing. You cannot pack the perishable goods the way you would with a dry container setting. The reason why fruit

cartons have numerous holes is related to the supply chain procedures. The chilled commodities such as fruit and meat need
