components of the resurging UK economy. With UK distribution and networks creating 0.2% of GDP, this is the equivalent to the GVA produced by construction of roads and railways activities. Issue 31 focuses on the implementation of these networks, which,

CAR DELIVERY NETWORK ROLLS OUT
VINDISPATCH APP FOR DEALERS M arket leading cloud-based software providers for
automotive logistics, Car Delivery Network (CDN), has launched a new vinDISPATCH App to support their
well-established online Delivery Portal.
The app is available on both Apple and Android, providing the same detailed information to dealers as the Delivery Portal website. It enables dealers to access real-time information direct from vehicle delivery drivers relating to inbounding vehicles, as well as historical information about vehicles already delivered. According to Derric Hicks, CDN General Manager North America, CDN has been investing considerable effort in developing the product at the behest of customers. The vinDISPATCH Delivery Portal app now enables key people within the dealership, such as porters and lot personnel, who may not have access to a desktop computer, to be notified when vehicles are ON THE WAY. Sales Managers and Inventory Control personnel can also receive 24/7 alerts and notifications on their phones advising that a load is ON THE WAY or has just been DELIVERED. Several OEMs are keen to provide the Delivery Portal to their dealers to facilitate a higher level of service and communication. This, together with the development of our new App is just another example of how CDN goes above and beyond for our customers!

MOVE IT LIKE...YOU
I was delighted to appear in the FORWARDER magazine ‘Move it Like’ showcase earlier this
year. The opportunity to speak candidly about the success of our company, my influence on that, and the ingredients that contribute to our continued success was appreciated. NNR is a global ‘premium brand’ that, although established for over a 100 years in Asia, is not particularly well known in the UK. The feature in Forwarder Magazine offered the stage for us to future promote our business. The moniker ‘secret assassin’ and ‘largest company you’ve never heard of’ no longer suits the brand and size of our global group, therefore features like ‘Move it Like’ in a classy glossy such as FORWARDER are the perfect vehicle to help change that perception. Now I’ve recovered from the
marginal discomfort of a little more attention than normal (!), I can reflect that it provided a strong and personal message that many of our key partners and customers read and responded favourably too. Lee Griffiths, NNR
It was fantastic to feature in the FORWARDER magazine
‘Move it Like’ recently. The quality of the article and insightfulness of the questions gave T15 a great opportunity to be seen in the best light possible. We are a young, growing business and this forum has enabled us to promote our value to a wider network, within a sector that is going through significant change. I would summarise FORWARDER magazine as a quality publication that brings networks and partnerships together for the greater good. Matt Perry, Transition15

DON’T TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT... In 2017 I was proud to be included in the popular FORWARDER feature 'Move It Like'. As a leading publication within the
logistics industry, FORWARDER's unique feature presented an ideal opportunity to discuss my journey as a global air freight
expert and highlight how Ligentia continues to meet our customers' requirements through customised solutions. I found the process rewarding and my relationship with FORWARDER has continued to develop as my career has progressed to a global role. I would highly recommend being part of a future 'Move it Like' feature to anyone seeking successful exposure within the logistics industry.

ristol is a prime example of how independent businesses can flourish given the right environment, and how they can challenge the biggest of multinationals. The same can be said for the freight forwarding communities. We recently ran a feature regarding the members from WCA and how their numbers allow them to compete with many of the big players
throughout the industry, showcasing the strength in numbers that independent freight forwarders have. The latest industry data reveals that the top-20 global freight forwarders are losing market share in every region of the world and that regional and independent forwarders are leading industry growth. This shows us that that distribution networks can affect serious change in the industry, and we at FORWARDER want to give you the rundown on exactly how the amalgamation of independents coming together can help you and your business and add value to the industry...
THE HUMAN TOUCH It is very hard, even for the most sophisticated technology, to replicate the human interaction – something so vital to successful freight forwarding. Independent freight forwarders need to continually contact their clients and provide a quality service. And clarity within communication is key. Current technology within distribution and networks systems in the UK are not sophisticated enough to react to the complexities involved in freight forwarding, and therefore keeping that human connection is vital for many businesses.

COST Flexibility doesn’t end with delivery times and locations. It also extends to cost for the client. Many multinationals would have to battle through a mountain of bureaucratic paperwork before they could budge on price and this delays the distribution process for many others. Independents can negotiate and allow management to understand the reasoning behind price changes. Even if an independent can’t budge on price, the vast, interconnected networks allow them to point you in the direction of a supplier that is perhaps more cost efficient.
SPEED The overall speed that some independent distributors can deliver products can be beneficial for certain clients. Their close relationship with networks throughout the country means that they have a wealth of knowledge unrivalled by their competitors. Matt Dailly, Contributing Editor, FORWARDER magazine

Join a Network WCA, BIFFA, FTA, RHA and more are all interconnected networks that can help you reach you freight forwarding goals through networking. Freight forwarders work together to save money, mitigate risks, and manoeuvre shipments more deftly is always a widely appreciated form for networking. Freight forwarders pay a fee to join these networks, and reap the benefits that come with membership. Good networks will vet candidates thoroughly and limit their membership numbers in every region so that there is less competition between members, as well as more reciprocal trade with members from other areas. You need to make sure that the network you are joining is right for you. Collaboration If you leave yourself open to the opportunities that collaboration brings, then you will find the cowboy world of freight forwarding not so intimidating. The number of collaborations is set to grow in the industry over the next decade, such as business facilitation skills, is incredibly important to ongoing success. One of the greatest benefits of long-term collaboration is the cost savings that result from routine procedures over the life of the relationship. We are very aware that there are a lot more factors in successful networks creating tangible change in the industry. However, by following these simple steps you can propel yourself into a better position for you and your business in terms of connectivity. Matt Dailly, Contributing Editor, FORWARDER magazine

t’s hard to get away from the impact e-commerce has had on freight forwarding. The volume of cargo since the explosion of Web 2.0 has increased dramatically. This has seen the rise of numerous new freight forwarding platforms, independent forwarders competing against multinationals and a more globally connected commerce. But what impact has this had on the whole industry
more than a decade after the explosion of Web 2.0? Let FORWARDER explain just how, and why, e-commerce will continue to shape the industry.

INCREASING TURNOVER E-commerce is a new way to not only save money, but to increase your businesses overall revenue. Spending time and resources on acquiring new customers but keep your loyal customers happy is vital. Concise item descriptions and allowing users to register after purchasing them could mean that an e-commerce approach to your products could revitalise your business. The perceived professionalism of many companies on the web is something you should consider, maintaining a concise brand. Additionally, making your e-commerce platform user-friendly is a must. Nobody likes a complicated website. It's confusing and time-consuming. Including professional imagery / videography, a tidy design and regularly checking your site's speed are three key elements to consider.
COST EFFICIENCY In the light of cost efficiency, deciding to adopt an e-commerce platform for your products will give you significantly fewer overheads than with any other form of distribution / advertising service. Planning your site around a strategy before you start development is important when thinking about cost efficiency. It will save you both time and money. Ultimately, you should consider to have a plan going into the project. An e-commerce site can turn out to be a headache if it has not been properly planned out. Whilst planning may cost you a little bit more upfront, you'll benefit with both money and time in the long run. Matt Dailly, Contributing Editor, FORWARDER magazine

ith BIFA already trying to encourage freight forwarders to take up new standards, they are also here to help businesses compete within the
competitive arena of careers events and academic institution visits. Freight forwarding is competitive by nature, and it starts at grassroots level. Having practical knowledge about how to entice people to your stand is imperative and provides a more engaging and involving platform for young people. Follow these BIFA member tips for career day success for both attendees and your business...
1
GET THE AUDIENCE INVOLVED
Involve the audience with an interactive activity. Make logistics relevant to young people by asking questions such as ‘what are
