June Events… Join us on Thursday, June 13, 20 and 27th for membership classes at 7:00 pm in the Youth Space. We will explore membership in the Moravian Church in the 21st Century. Childcare will be provided for young children in the CE Building. You may call the church office to make a reservation by the first week of June 2013. Please bring a loose leaf binder and highlighter to keep notes. Members in good standing may also attend to gain a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the church. Make a date to join us for worship on June 9 and June 16 as our own Michael Brent shares with us in worship as our special guest speaker. He will be sharing with our graduates a special message and challenge as they begin their academic career. In addition he will be giving us a glimpse into the ministry of Fathers in Christian Homes. Michael will be available throughout the week as well to meet with groups in the area. Please give your support and attention as we welcome home a faithful partner in ministry with us here at Friedland Moravian Church. June 9th is a date for a special Spring Sing for our RCC group at Union Cross Moravian Church. Saints and Sinners will be sharing their love of music as well as other groups from our sister churches (Union Cross, Pine Chapel, Enterprise). The evening will begin at 5:30 pm with refreshments throughout the evening’s musical performances. Friedland Moravian Church is a proud member of the RCC that represents the Southside of Winston-Salem and Northern Davidson County. Come out and have a great evening of music! We will be commissioning the Mission Camp 2013 participants and Leaders as well as the Costa Rica Trip participants and Leaders on June 30th in worship. Much prayer and hard work has gone into our two major mission efforts for this summer. In the history of Missions, we can celebrate the contributions of members of Friedland

Mission Moments for June, 2013 Costa Rica: Praise God for his Faithful leading of our seven who are witnessing in Costa Rica during the week of July 24th – July 31st. Pray that God’s work will be done as they witness through music, work, play and as God leads them. May their work and witness resound for years into the future and beyond our days. God is leading, we will follow. Mission Camp: June 30th – July 5th, twelve of our Youth will be attending Mission Camp at Laurel Ridge. This is always a spiritual blessing for our Youth as they witness to those who have less and then they go to the top of the mountain to experience their own walk with God. Missions (Homeland and Abroad): Sunnyside Mud Run Sponsored by Members of Our Congregation and held at the Reed Farm was a huge success. Watch for more fundraisers by the Moravian Gang. The Shan Dai Believers have now come together as a congregation of believers meeting in homes. This long sought fruit of the Woo’s Mission efforts happened for the first time on May 17th. Praise God and continue to PRAY! Did you know that there is a small medical mission effort in Oaxaca, Mexico? It is in a mountainous region of Southern Mexico. Ask Jacqueline Poston and Mark Ebert about it? Michael Brent will be preaching for us on June 16. The following are excerpts from his newsletter that comes to us from Zabreb, Croatia. They are titled: STAND FIRM …We face an unseen spiritual force that longs to tear apart the family of God. Who are we to stand against such a power? . . . Who are we to stand firm against spiritual forces of evil? We are children of the King. In Jesus, we have a new identity. In Jesus, we have an amazing inheritance. In Jesus, we have access to inner spiritual strength. In Jesus, we are connected together as a family. In Jesus, we are deeply loved and specially equipped (Ephesians 1-3). Paul knows that listing out these truths will not bring about spiritual trans-formation. He must pray (1:15-19; 3:14-21). Paul spent more time in Ephesus than in any other city during his missionary journeys. He is not praying for new believers when he asks for spiritual enlightenment. He is praying for believers who had received three years of his own teaching and example. He is praying for believers who have heard the truth and tried to live it. We know the words, but experiencing the reality takes time and prayer. We need his truth to seep down into the crevices of our heart. We need to own his words to us, ‘You are mine. You are valuable to me. I have sealed you with the spirit of promise. I have made my home in your heart. I have made you to know love.’... Adventurers must learn to TAKE A STAND. Satan will throw his fiery darts to tempt, discourage, deceive and hurt. And we will STAND FIRM, side by side, shields raised, swords ready, a glint in our eye, children of the king.

Moravian Church throughout the years. Make a Date for this year’s outreach into North Carolina and Costa Rico. Food Donations for Sunny Side Ministry is a constant challenge throughout the year. The summer months are no exception. Children who usually have school lunch provided at little or no charge now have little resources at home. Bring a can a week throughout June and July and place it in the sane pails in the vestibule of the church. Please remember as well to give the office any new email addresses or physical addresses for members and young adults who are heading out to school this summer. Also update the office with your new phone numbers, addresses for military families and friends, friends of the church and members who are living temporarily out of state.

Thank You… Dear Christian friends of Friedland, How blessed I am to be a part of such a wonderful body of believers. Thank you so very much for the great outpouring of love since my latest fall. For all your prayers, visits, and so many beautiful cards and more. I thank you each and everyone very sincerely. May God continue to bless you all as you continue to serve Him. In Christian Love, Gladys Edwards Address Change: Joseph Benfield Army-Fort Sill, Oklahoma (Great grandson of Beulah Cook)

Letter from: Board of World Mission - - April 17, 2013 To: the Pastor David, Pastor Carol, and the members at Friedland On behalf of the Board of World Mission I wish to send our appreciation to your congregation for hosting dinner for our board and our partners on Thursday, April 4th. We arrived tired from travel and were greeted with your gracious welcome and delicious food. It was also wonderful that our global partners could see another of our churches and experience your hospitality, many here in the US for the first time. Please extend our thanks to all who were involved in the necessary preparations. Sincerely, Judith M. Ganz, Executive Director
