PARISH NURSES’ CORNER February was Heart Health Month. It is important to know the signs of a heart attack: chest discomfort or discomfort in the upper body, shortness of breath and may include nausea, vomiting, sweating, lightheadedness, arm or jaw pain. Many times symptoms start gradually and people may not recognize them. Men are more likely to have chest pain, arm pain, jaw pain and sweating. Women often present with shortness of breath, lightheadedness, nausea or vomiting. Heart disease is the number one killer of women in the United States, claiming more lives than all cancers combined. If you have any of these symptoms, it is important to call 9-1-1 to activate the Emergency Medical Service without delay. We all can do things to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Enjoy a balanced diet and strive to maintain a healthy weight. If you have not been exercising, talk with your doctor prior to starting a new exercise program. Then, get moving. Manage your stress. Small changes will make a positive impact on your overall health. Watch for the Parish Nurses’ Healthy Living Survey in the March 23 bulletin.

NEWS FROM KENYA It has been a busy time at Ray of hope. We have 10 teenagers. I think teenagers all over the world are alike. They have crazy ideas. One day they are willing to work and the next they just want to lay around. I need prayers and lots of advice on raising teenagers. Two of our kids have decided they don’t need us and they left. One of them has graduated from high school and she is over 18, so we let her go. Please pray for her as she tries to find her way. She knows the Lord and we hope she will listen to what He has to say. The other one is still in high school and we brought him right back. It is hard once they graduate high school. They need to go on and continue their education. The job market is bad. They think they can make it, but it is very difficult in this area of the world. Continue to pray for my teenagers. We are starting some building projects. The dining hall is finally getting a new roof. We are also putting in another water tank and are making some improvements on our septic system. The weather is improving and is still quite hot this month. We are just looking forward to the rainy season. We are ready to work on our garden once the rain comes and it cools down. Thanks for all your prayers and support. Ray of Hope family
Mission Moments YOU IMPACT LIVES!!! Sometimes we don’t hear about the results of our monies to our missionaries but this month we heard from the Brents in Croatia. The Cru philosophy is that we disciple to disciple who disciples to another disciple etc. Thus, Sofia was one of those who did not know Michael Brent directly but was the result of a “third” generation disciple. That’s how she came to know JESUS. She stated that Jesus has changed her life. It was through your gifts to the Brents that Sofia’s life has been changed. PRAISE GOD! Continue to pray that our giving will change lives. Continue to pray for the Ugwuokes in Gambia who are challenged by limited chances to show the “Jesus” film in their country. Pray that the government will lessen their limits on the showing of that film. The Compassionate Heart has found God at work as avenues have been opened for their work in Asia. Pray that they will be safe as they travel to teach English (and spread the word of Jesus) 100 miles from the Woos. Pray for our Youth and the Mission Club as they seek to meet once a month during the school year to seek God’s guidance in their next endeavors for 2015. If you are interested in meeting with them see Betsy Messick. Pray that the Synod of the Moravian Church South will reorganize and realign all the Mission Work both home and abroad so that God’s light can continue to shine and that those who do not know Jesus will come to have a personal relationship with HIM.
