A BETTER WORLD In a world of ever increasing complexity, we are challenged to imagine innovative solutions for unprecedented problems. Knowledge alone will never solve the modern issues of climate change, biodiversity loss, and emerging diseases. These problems demand solutions that draw from multiple disciplines, that build bridges between areas of expertise, and that transform our practiced responses. At Friends’ Central School, we recognize that finding innovative answers starts with the development of a genuine sense of inquiry. Our students are charged with analyzing how things work, imagining how things could be, and then designing a way to realize their visions. What is this? Why are things the way they are? What makes this happen? What follows is a sense of possibility: How could it be different? What would happen if this particular element were changed? What new tools or strategies need to be created? For over 160 years, Friends’ Central has been showing students that they possess extraordinary powers of perception, a unique capacity to see things in a new light, and an ability to design solutions to the difficult challenges that lie ahead. We know that inquiry and exploration not only create a better educational experience, they also lay the foundation for generations of graduates who will help create a better world.
