If you wanted to be in a peaceful place, you should have been at the FCS peace assembly on Friday, September 25. The assembly opened with the Nursery children showing us how to make the peace sign with our fingers. Wasn’t that awesome? Next Pre-KA came up and showed us their fantastic tiedye t-shirts while saying peace in several different languages. The first graders sang a wonderful song called “Down by the Riverside” while playing beautiful sounding instruments. 2A came on stage and shared what peace meant to them. 3A sang a very old song known to many called “I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing” and plenty of people in the audience sang along. 4C shared their awesome drawings and told what peace meant to them. Then the rest of fourth grade joined 4C up on stage for a fantabulous ending. They sang a song, “Peace Salaam Shalom” which means peace in English, Arabic and Hebrew. Each and everyone sang along. What does peace mean to YOU?????
Why did the yellow jacket wasps have to make their nest right in the spot where we were going to have our peace day Meeting for Worship? Maybe the yellow jackets were trying to show us that they were peaceful by making their nest in a log right under our peace flags! Our peace flags have very colorful and peaceful designs. “I asked the kids There was a yellow jacket to think of ideas or designs that would wasp nest near our peace make a really lovely, peaceful statement,” flags so we moved our Meeting for Worship near the pool. said Ms. Parris, our 3rd and 4th grade art teacher. “No matter what colors or designs you put on the flags they look so good hanging together as a community.” To make the peace flags, Ms. Parris and Mrs. Exley cut up bed sheets into a rectangle shape. Then everyone made a design on a piece of paper. We put a piece of fabric over our design and traced our design on Mrs. Dawson played “Go Now in Peace” at the end to the fabric using a special glue. The next time we came to art class everyone painted of the Meeting for Worship. their flags with colors over the whole thing. Then Ms. Parris and Mrs. Exley secretly scrubbed the glue off when the kids weren’t looking. The glue came off and there were beautiful white lines the color of the fabric. We made the peace flags based on the Tibetan prayer flags to honor the International Day of Peace on September 21st. 4th graders stand near the We had to move our Meeting for Worship peace flags, but not too close to the wasp’s nest. because of the yellow jacket’s nest. SO PLEASE DON’T GO NEAR THE NEST. Let’s live peacefully with the yellow jackets!
Visiting Our Peace Pole Photos and Caption by Tori Lane and Carson Lonner
“Peace starts with thoughts of peace,” said Ms. Will to class 4B and others who met her at the peace pole right at the entrance to the school near the mural. On the peace pole there are words of peace in nine different languages. The pole represents peace on earth on International Peace Day, when everyone on earth comes together to make peace.

FCS Lower School
Welcome to Another Great School Year
On Friday, September 10th, the Lower School met outside near the Friendship Bell to ring in the new school year. Mr. Ludwig asked Emma to read the inscription and Ben to ring the bell. Then everyone in 1st through 4th grade went to the Meeting Room to meet our new students and teachers. Here is a photo of some of the new 1st graders and our new music teacher, Mrs. Caldwell.
3A and 3C Meet a Real Pilot: The “Other” Mr. Denton
You’ve all heard of Ben and Jerry; and you’ve heard of Tom and Jerry. Now meet Don and Jerry! 3A and 3C were lucky enough to meet Mr. Denton’s brother Jerry, a real pilot. Jerry Denton, who lives in Virginia, flew his single engine Cessna airplane to see his little brother Donny last week. Since 3A and 3C are both studying flight, he came to our school and talked to them about all the different kinds of planes that he has flown, including helicopters. The pictures of the airplane are from our Mr. Denton’s personal collection.
