Letter from the Editor Thinking, 6 months ago, what is now Fringe Indie Magazine seems a dream. It all started one day when I realized that I was growing apart from my best friends and I decided to find a way to unite us through a common theme. That is how Fringe Indie Magazine was born and without the support of these friends it would have still be only a dream. Then new characters, new writers came, which offered their touch of creativity to the magazine and are the ones that help us grow everyday. I am very happy for the long road and hope you continue with us as always. For many years to come! {Flavia Martina} Editor in Chief
1ST YEAR ANNIVERSARY AND WE W First and foremost, Happy Birthday to Fringe Indie Magazine! Although I started writing for Fringe in its second issue, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed writing for this publication. It allows me to share my wonderful and eventful experiences. My favorite part of the Fringe Indie Magazine is that it reaches out to places all over the world, with our corresponding fellow writers in different cities – yet it brings everyone together for a common interest (whether it may be fashion or music). I hope to continue writing and updating the readers about what’s going on here in New York City with a growing audience everyday. Cheers! Audrey Allure. 07/08 -07/09 No, I’m not into numerology, is just a way to virtually pinch myself and realize that it’s been a year since the first issue of Fringe Indie. In fact, I have to be honest, I started to work since September, with Argentinian spring and European autumn. And the desire to do more and better articles is growing every day. “Feliz Internacional Moderna” (Happy International Modern): playing with the first letters of the name of our magazine and the adjectives come to define as I want Fringe to be in the future. It gives me great pleasure to say “our” and construct a reality that made me meet amazing people (of which I remember to meet at Starbucks and, of course, New York!). Happy Bday! Adriana Escarini.

This first year was a great mixed experiences, from the nerves of wh the readers would tell and whether t magazine was going to go forward u til the hysteria caused by the comp cations (especially about me) emerg to deadlines. I am very happy with the results so far. And basically my expectations are entertain, inform and give advice on how to be beautiful every day. What do you think?. Well friends, readers and lovers of life, until the next issue! Cheers to you! M. Jimena Perez.
that now makes a toast to celebrate their first 365 days. “Fringe Indie Magazine” gave me the opportunity to express myself in a way that I never did: an online magazine. It opened me the doors of diversity and imagination, but above all of freedom. Freedom to write, research, imagine and to tell from my point of view and taste. Allowed me to put my signature on every article, every word and select each item. I tried on a personal mission to tell about places, fashion and events. I tried to give a new twist to the already famous in the fashion world and I also tried to make known my place, my country. I tried to express myself in a different way and through a different magazine. This time just want to thank, blow the candles of a huge cake full of projects, ideas and creativity, and I will ask only one wish: that you all continue to accompany us. Finally I would like to thank Flavia for making reality what Fringe Indie is today, for the independence that gives me in every issue, for her patience and friendship. Cheers for more issues to come! M. Candela D’Urzo.
Happy B-Day F.I.M !
PH Bio: My name is María Victoria Leites (23 years) and ever since I can remember I love audio visual arts, but photography is my weakness, I took photos with pocket, borrowed and analogs cameras, since little of my friends and particularly of what attracted my interest. I loved to portray the people and creating different scenes. Then a few years later I had the opportunity to buy a digital camera, and I began to experience as an amateur until I realized that it really fascinated me and I started studying at the School of Photography of Andy Goldstein, there I got my Technician Photography degree and this year after my personal thesis I’m going to be graduating as a professional photographer. Bubble Battle
I
t’s a great time for all ages. I spotted people that were two years of age to adults in their 50s (some still in their work attire!), participating in this event. Even a wedding couple, dressed in bridal attire, was about to get married in mere hours joined the event. It is basically just like a water ight but with millions of bubbles. Held in Times Square, it became a very soapy day perfect for a summer day. Tourists cheered and tried to pop a few bubbles as they pas-
sed by on sightseeing buses. Various bubble machines and guns were used, along with the basic bottles. One man even used a bubble machine that seemed hand-built that he placed on his head. Another man walked around shirtless and asked many participants to sign his chest and back. If you’d like to join the next one, visit: newmindspace.com.

Silent Rave: The Return of the Raveapple!
A
bout a hundred of dancers gathered in Union Square for a silent rave. What’s a silent rave? People dance to their own individual iPods, CD players, etc. with their headphones and earphones on. From an outsider view, it just looks like a bunch of people dancing without any music blasting. Although applause and cheering breaks out when the “Raveapple” (a pineapple illed with glow sticks), the mascot of this event, is held up. Some teenagers even started dancing in store windows across the street, and even a snake line erupted. This event happens every year, sometimes even twice a year. For updates for the next one, visit Facebook and search up the event. Text & Photos by: Audrey Allure
Vans Warped Tour 2009
I
attended Warped Tour here in New York. For those that do not know what Warped Tour is – it is a large music festival showcasing approximately 40 bands, which at least 6 stages are set up. Booths are set up for merchandise purchase as well as band signings. Attendants can choose which bands they want to see perform according to the schedule and visit the corresponding stage. Bands such as Paramore, Boys Like Girls, and Hawthorne Heights started & ruled at Warped Tour before they hit mainstream. It was perfect weather for an outdoor music festival. It was in the mid 70s/low 80s with a lot of breeze. Moshpits erupted here and there, while at other spots people were found relaxing on the grass under the shade of trees. I got a chance to see great bands such
as The White Tie Aair, Hit The Lights, Anarbor, Lights, Meg & Dia, Big D and the Kids Table, Madina Lake, In This Moment, Aiden, and Breathe Carolina. This tour happens every summer and tours all over the United States. To check out more information about this exciting event, check out: warpedtour.com

Malaga Atelier Event A
warm Saturday in June led to the event where the main idea was to see the creations of young artists from Milan. Coming through the entrance of Via Malaga 4 you could hear the music of English DJ Aaron (Beatrice Models Model and former PWP). In a corner, organized by Silvia Ranzi, in which you could appreciate the fabrics of Duty Gorn, we were expected by the sympathetic Sara and her Joy Toys of Kiki Monster (mentioned in a previous issue). Not far away were the boxes of glass-a world in the best tradition of Tim Burton-called “Barbie at the wall!” made by True Love-A Lice. It is amazing how you can reduce to a doll version the singer Bjork. And how the feminine universe can be interpreted so crazy. A brief stop to eat vegan sandwinchs and the time to view the offers of vintage dresses that were in the vicinity. Garments especially with strident colors, very Madonna´s 80s. ¡Cool things and in a good price! It was hard not to see the works that more than 20 exhibitors selected and all inished with drinks and conversations under the stars.

Corsa sui Tacchi a spillo Glamarathon In July there was a needle-heeled race. It entered in the Guinness records, surpassing those made earlier in Australia. The best thing was seeing some “brave” that knew to walk with heels better than most top models without ignoring the look with which they had prepared. The award was three pairs of Manolo’s that were unjustly earned by competitors that, except to go to the supermarket and the end-of-year school party, it is very difficult to have the opportunity to showcase those incredible shoes. Oops ... how insane jealousy!

Everybody loves Natasha Natasha Slater is British and has lived in Milan for the past years, where she has made a name for herself as Magazine Editor, Radio Broadcaster, DJ and Club Promoter. Punks Wear Prada is her unique club night.
How did Punk Wears Prada (www.punkswearprada.com) started? Because I wanted to create a party that re lected the glamour of the 70s Disco scene such as Studio 54, where fashionistas and music heads could met, mingle and be decadent.
What makes PWP parties different from others in Milan? That it’s like a family, people who come to PWP every week feel like they belong to something, it’s very unique.
Your next proyects... PWP’s natural home is Santa Tecla where we return in September for a new season. I still believe you need to keep a party moving and fresh for it to still be exciting. You were recently in Australia. In the future, are you planning to take PWP abroad? Yes there is a plan to take it to Tokyo in September. How is PWP person? Above all they are hot, sexy, attractive, fun, carefree and into music, meeting people and dancing.

Heads Will Roll (Yeah Yeah Yeahs):
Brand New Eyes (Paramore):
Having begun their career in 2003 for the New Yorker band led by Karen O. launches a new single. This new record has a very Michael Jackson style. The band has changed its style from “It’s Blitz,” with a simple electronic sound mixed with the distinctive and glorious cries of Karen and in Heads Will Roll she returns to its very bright and colorful costumes. It is a radical change in musical style but it has not gone wrong, but my approach was the best alternative rock. If you like the sound this may be for you!..
After a long wait, Paramore launches Brand New Eyes (album which goes on sale in September). The expectations of the band for this album were to be more successful and better than their debut album, the titles of the new songs are: Careful; Ignorance; Playing God, Boring Brick by Brick, Turn It Off, The Only Exception, Feeling Sorry, Looking Up, Where the Lines Overlap, Misguided Ghosts and All I Wanted. The cut of this LP is Ignorance (released 07/07) really very good, full of strength and energy. The new album will be a success and Hayley Williams will return to conquer us with her beautiful voice. This record is super recommended, especially for those who did not listen to band.
Reviews
Pearl Jam (Backspace):
Gustavo Cerati (Fuerza Natural):
September 21 is the date on which it’s expected the band, led by Eddie Vadder, releases the new album. After the rerelease of “Ten” (their first album), the new single is called “The Fixer.” This album will be meeting with O’Brien, who had worked in four of the first records of the band. The album will be launched by the record label Universal in most countries and United States in an independent way. It has 11 songs. Will this rock grunge fans?.. I think so.
The leader of Soda Stereo released his new album produced by him with the help of Hector Castillo. The first single, titled “Déjà Vu”, premiered on July 20. In August is expected to be released the fifth work of the artist. This album is still marked with puff style. For followers of Cerati, this album is a sensation and retains metaphors in the songs. It will be another hit for Gustavo and for my part I really want to hear it live. Enjoy!.

The Cat Empire talks to Fringe Indie The Cat Empire have taken their home-country of Australia by storm and are now out to crack Europe with a tour this summer. I caught up with front-man, Felix Riebl, in his dressing room at the Academy in Birmingham.
How would you describe The Cat Empire’s music to someone who hadn’t heard it before? Honestly, I’d say that they should come to a show and see it because after people have seen the show
they don’t feel the need to explain it. They just enjoy it. It’s very lively music, the musicians are very good. A world music band I suppose is the best way to describe it.
How do you go about writing your songs? I write them pretty traditionally I think. I go out and experience things or read about things or listen to music or practise music and
put words to harmonies and form good melodies that work. It’s one of the most wonderful things to be in a band and have people singing your choruses, so that’s something that’s really inspiring to do. So, when I write songs for this band I try and write choruses, but also leave the arrangement open enough for the musicians to do what they do well – improvisation.
strange? Like all blue M&Ms and stuff ? Yeah, Ryan [Monro, bass guitarist] tried that! But we’re actually a pretty easy-going band in terms of requesting things. Do you !ind audiences here different to those in Australia? I think so. It’s different being a long established band to still being kind of an unknown band. If not, then that’s ok too. Has the tour gone well so far? Very well. We’ve done four shows so far, it’s been one of the best one’s I remember, actually. We haven’t been on tour for over a year in the UK. It’s been at least 18 months since we’ve been here and in that time we made a live CD, but also took a lot of time off because we’ve just come off a long-term tour. I think that the live album marks the end of this period and we’re going to record another CD at the end of next year. I think it’s going to be a new chapter.
Where do you see yourselves in 5 years time? I’d like to create an album – the best album we’ve done with the band – that would be great, and see where that takes us.
What can we expect from this new CD? Have you written any of the songs already? Well I have got a lot of ideas. It’s going to be different, that’s all I can say. We’re going to try something really new and ambitious for the band. What it’s going to be I cannot say. When you’re on tour do you ever request anything

Text: Jim Ru Photo: Oil City Arts Revitalization Committee
A New Breed of Music Emerges in the Oil Region. P
hrases like “gay pride” and “indie music” can lose their meaning in larger cities, but can still hold a lot of meaning in the smaller towns. In the midst of repressive small town cultures these words become relevant codes sent out to like-minded people. Oftentimes, with censorship and reactionary politics being the norm, it’s the only way to get a message out that groups have formed that represent certain ideas and feelings. The Oil Region Indie Music Festival in Oil City, Pennsylvania sends out these coded messages with a new emerging sound, and like-minded people have begun to take notice. The region has been economically challenged with the !light of the oil industry and it’s peripheral businesses. Many of the people remaining hold on tight to conservative values bordering on extreme right-wing politics. However, beleaguered cities and small towns begin to realize that new ideas can create wealth and future prosperity. Musicians and artists keep pushing against the conformity and demand changes. These two forces have come together in Oil City. In order to encourage new ideas, Oil City has begun to actively fund the arts with the Artists Relocation Program, advertising for artists to move here with help from a locally funded program through the Oil City Arts Revitalization Committee. (http:// www.artsoilcity.com/) This prompted local musician Jerome Wincek to create the Oil Region Indie Music Festival. It’s now in its third year and becoming more and more popular each year. There were about eighteen bands performing this year, along with crafts, open art studios, and jam sessions. (http://www.myspace. com/oilregionindie) At this festival, you can hear a de!inite sound coming from the local bands. There is a commonality of spirit and tone, but a diversity of expression that rivals the musical waves made in Athens Georgia with bands like REM and Of Montreal, and in Omaha Nebraska with Bright Eyes. The sound of Oil Region Indie can be heard in bands like Newmen, The Old Hats, Remora Deign and Secretly Plotting Your Burial. Each of those bands expresses this sound in a very different way.
Newmen has a love affair with nature and the workings of small town life. Jesse Proper, lead singer and guitarist, writes genius poetry capturing the beauty and tranquility of Western Pennsylvania’s forest towns, especially their home town of Titusville. http://www.myspace.com/newmenbandpa Photo by: Shelly Proper
Remora Deign rocks out with a very tight band whose amazing drummer, Garth Porter, has the pop sensibility of Ringo Starr. But this band goes past standard pop and rock. They bring back the life in rock music, and challenge the old chord structures with new musical ideas. http://www.myspace.com/remoradeign Photo from myspace.
The Old Hats, Jerome Wincek’s band, pushes the limits on bluegrass with a discordant approach spiced with a sound that reminds me of the music of the Hebrides Islands mixed with foot stomping jazz. http://www.myspace.com/jeromewincek Photo by: Josh Brandt
Secretly Plotting Your Burial takes pithy and biting humor and uses their technical skills for a new standard of folk music. Their name alone makes any festival poster a hit, but it also gives you an idea of where they intend to take you through folk music. With songs like “Killed My Love With Rock n Roll” and “Eternal Damnation My Summer Vacation” they awaken the camp !ire cuddly genre of folk with raucous epigrams. And it’s about time. http://www.myspace.com/secretlyplottingyourburial Photo from myspace.
All of these bands share a commonality of expression, which is not to say they all sound alike, or are derivative of each other. But there is something there in all of them that speaks to the environment of the Oil Region. I think they are responding to this environment and bringing it to their music. There’s a humor to the music, but it’s laughing in the face of adversity. But beyond that, you can hear a discord in the rhythms and the chords that has a tough, survival quality to it. Winters are rough here. The rest of the year the forest and the greenery, the birds and the bugs, lean down and push up into every available crevice. You know your place here as a human within nature. For Newmen, this environmental muse creates an interesting ground to the !lowing sensitivity. Their music says, “Yes we know our place here, it’s tough at times,” but their hearts stay open. When Remora Deign uses the Oil Region environment
for inspiration, you get the smack of rock that is very much missing in mainstream rock music. Nature !ights for a place, and Remora Deign !ights back. With The Old Hats, the combination of natural rustic beauty and industrial decay bring about a quirky mash of sounds. You hear bluegrass in there. You know you’re in the country with them. But you’re being taken to new places with it because creativity is the key to survival in nature and in a post-industrial small town. Finally, when Secretly Plotting Your Burial uses these same inspirations of beauty and decay, it matches perfectly with the brazen discord of their lyrics and their smooth musical delivery. They are the trickster clowns of this area, with skilled musical technique. Their response to nature is to stick out their tongue and dance with death and af!irm that life is a joke. Next year’s Oil Region Indie Music Festival is being plan-
ned, and if you want to hear this sound live, be sure to be there. But in the meantime, check out these bands online, and be sure to support their cd and online music sales. A label will de!initely be forming around here, because the musical talent and their audience will soon demand it. When you live in isolated areas it becomes like the habitats of islands. Darwinian theories of species could apply here. Unique breeds emerge. Unique languages and codes form among the inhabitants. Environmental archaeologists and naturalists should come with cameras and notebooks to study this, because it doesn’t happen very often. Migrations of these bands occur in coffee shops, clubs and colleges during the year, so be sure to pilgrimage to the Oil Region in Pennsylvania to see and hear this most rare of species - the creative, technically pro!icient musician with a unique sound.

Some curiosities of the classic horror By: Carolina Romano
Continuing the theme with horror genre in ilms, here can be found some curious anecdotes about some of the classic ilms that belong to this genre.
The Shining (Stanley Kubric, 1980) The scene of the tricycle It is curious how this scene was shot, in which Danny (Danny Lloyd) walks the corridors of the hotel on a tricycle at speed. It was initially attempted to record the scene where the cameraman, holding a steady cam, followed the child in the tricycle almost at ground level. But it proved impossible to the cameraman to sustain the rythm, which is why they had to resort to a chair with wheels in which they could attach a camera. http://www.speakpeppery.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/06/theshining.jpg
12/21 Kubrick chose to place several references to the numbers 12 and 21 (which if you invest with each other it gives the same number), throughout the ilm. Some examples, among others, are: the room where the tragedy occurs 237 (2 +3 +7 = 12), the picture in the end of 1921, and at the time that Wendy talk radio called KDK 12. On edge At the end of ilming, the actress who played Wendy, had to be committed to a psychiatric facility after suffering a nervous breakdown after ilming.
Rosemary’s Baby (Roman Polanski, 1968) Dakota damn The ilm was shot in a building named Dakota in New York, a place that has been described as “damn” where not only the ilm that was shot with references to satanic cults and that later led to the murder of Sharon Tate (director Polanski’s wife), but it was at the door of the building where in 1980 John Lennon was shot. Charles Manson Polanski and his family suffered death threats on the part of satanic cults, which, displeased with the ilm, accused the director of disclosing secret rituals that aren’t supposed to display. Time after a tragedy occurs. Sharon Tate and friends who celebrated with a party at her house in Beverly Hills was bloody murdered by the cult of Charles Manson, with the same address above. With the blood of the victims written on the walls of the house had Helter Skelter, which is worth adding is a song that John Lennon made with The Beatles.

The exorcist (William Friedkin, 1973) That doll! The scene in which Regan turns her head, was made with a latex doll that was handled by a remote control. Contorsions Remember the scene of the stairs? Where Regan goes down the stairs like a spider? That scene was done by a contortionist, Linda R. Hager, which used a harness that was subject to the ceiling by wires, she could barely touch the stairs with her hands and feet. 666 After completing the ilm, Friedkin took the postproduction to 666 of the 5th Avenue. This is no small thing that the number 666 is associated with Satan in the Book of Revelation in the New Testament. ¿Pure coincidence?

SHORT FICTION VIGNETTES
Talking To Myself By: S.E. Cohn
-Let’s try and do something good for ourselves tonight. I know that TV, drugs and whiskey are cool and all, but there is more to life than that. -Yeah, maybe. But what are you going to do about it? -Well, I have been trying to write something about it. Here, look... -Ok, but if the irst line is about TV, drugs and whiskey then obviously it’s the inspiration and without it you would have nothing. -But that’s just it! What if I was living without this shit? Imagine what could be accomplished during a day. Imagine making love and actually feeling it! -I feel it. -Well, yeah, but-Listen. You can keep imagining all this shit, but without all this, you wouldn’t even be real. This is your life right now, and there is no other, or at least no other that you are aware of. Let it go. This is why you have a failed career, failed relationships and own nothing. Because you can’t fucking accept who you are in the present. Now--no, not a word, I’m not inished--do yourself a favor. Pour a glass, roll a joint, watch the television. Fuck wildly when she comes over and say things you don’t mean. -Like even that trash about anal sex and a vibrator? -Absolutely. We can say it over and over again, and we will pretend that we have harmony and that all the things we do in the dark bring you happiness. Then, I assure you, we will have cast enough worry, doubt and illusion into the rill of goodness that you still hold onto to write whatever it is you want to write. -I hate it when you’re right. -And I hate it when you write.

Pink & Rock & Candy - When did you decided to start your blog and how was the process? I started blog in December 2006, right before Christmas. I’d been on break from school for a couple weeks and was beyond bored. Though I was majoring in Biology at my university, I knew I wanted to get into fashion. So, instead of telling my parents I had a knack for fashion, I wanted to show them. I used an old URL my sister once used for an online journalism class, and started blogging. At irst I was just writing about trends I liked, and no one was really reading. Pink Rock Candy has become what it is now through trial and error and a lot of life lived.
Honestly, I can’t. I’m not sure I have a particular style. I sort of wear whatever I want whenever I want, but in general, I say I’m pleasantly disheveled. It’s sort of if a gypsy princess and Jimi Hendrix had a love child and they covered her in grandpa sweaters.
- To know you a little bit more, who are your fashion references and icons? There are lots of celebrities whose style I like at various times, but I don’t think there is one person who truly inspires me every time I see them. When it comes to my favorite designers, I’d have to say people like Vivienne Westwood, Alexander McQueen, and John Galliano are the top. Sophomore Text & Photos provided by: M. Candela D’Urzo
Sophomore is a brand that comes unexpectedly at the hands of Chrissie Miller and one of her creations-a shirt- in 2003. Both celebrities, the press and the general public were interested in this irst design. The furor was such that Chrissie decided to “think big” and give Sophomore the place it deserves. With stores in United States, Australia, Japan, Canada, England, Spain, France and Germany and the hand of the designer Madeleine Von Froomer, Sophomore has successfully expanded from that irst design to have dresses, shoes and bags. With New York as the source of inspiration along with a sportive line, this brand captivates us with dazzled fresh, casual and comfortable designs. The latest campaign portrayed young people that de initely know how to set trends with their clothes. Some of them are: Alexandra Richards, model, artist and DJ, the daughter of actress and model Patti Hansen and guitarist Keith Richards. Donald Cumming and Wade Oates, singer and guitarist of The Virgins also are part of this series of photographs by Cass Bird. Also, two TheCobraSnake girls modeled for Sophomore: Internet It Girl Cory Kennedy-Levin of just 19 years and rookie Harley Viera Newton who also achieve fame with her long hair and a style very different from Cory’s, but still lawbreaker. Street art took over Buenos Aires Text & Photos provided by: Denise Maciel Roulier
L
ately, an increased number of artists are invading our streets: the center of the city of Villa Urquiza, San Telmo, Palermo and even FADU (Faculty of Architecture and Urban Design), where in the subsoil of lag number three can be seen in the walls these beautiful works of art. This is a collective art (as some amateurs say) that as a member of a group sees a nice wall calls other members who share the materials (glue, aerosol, latex and poster or tracing). Each group is characterized by drawing the characters, such as Doma and saludante which is a kind of diver or astronaut, Run Don’t Walk with ghosts, Pum Pum and blondes, and Victoryranma with girls and swans. These drawings do not have much detail, is characterized by colors and thickness, well-de ined contours, which are designed to be understood from afar. Besides having their own “works” most of them are designers, such as those engaged in Doma that make videos and animations as well. his is the kind of art that gives life to a city and they see our Buenos Aires as an in inite canvas on which they work and become owners.

San Francisco in 24 hours After my 9 months experience in the Bay Area - San Francisco - California I feel pretty con ident in suggesting a tour in the downtown to discover the main attractions of the city and to taste a little bit of its lavours. So.. if you’re a passionate traveler and you’re about to spend some time in California, don’t forget to stop by in the amazing city of San Francisco, also called Frisco.. but only by the turists :) As everybody knows, SF is famous for its Up and Down and its chilling wind, so be ready for a tiring walk (especially because of the 24h hard schedule :P) and don’t forget to bring a jacket! even if you’re planning to go during the summer vacation.. the wind doesn’t take off. “It’s an odd thing, but anyone who disappears is said to be seen in San Francisco. It must be a delightful city and possess all the attractions of the next world” Oscar Wilde
9am - Union Square: Let’s give a starting point! To begin your tour you should walk down Market street, turn and reach the center of the downtown, Union Square. Here you will be surrounded by tons of shops as Macy’s, Tiffany, Nike Town and Apple Store. Have a look around: painted hearts have been located in some spot of Union Square: they have been selling for charity during the past years. Going up few blocks on Grant St a quick stop in Chinatown is a Must. Its famous gate represents the beginning of a chinese retailers who sell anything you can’t even know you need. And because of their price competition to collect more customers and turists, you will go home with 1.99 $ t-shirt and 70 cent magnets (which are perfect as souvenirs). Then, you will have to go back because this was just a taste of the shopping time. At the beginning of Powell Street you should notice the line to catch the famous cable car. But you’re going to catch the Muni :) because your next destination is quite far and unreachable by the cable car (let’s say it, cable car is only for turists and the ride goes too slow..)
Union Square
Fisherman’s Wharf
11am - You’re going to Golden Gate Park! Here it is, a huge park with the Conservatory of Flowers, California Academy of Sciences, Japanese Tea Garden and De Young Museum. (www.famsf.org/deyoung) You can relax taking some pictures because walking around is not so easy. As a must-see you should check out the top loor of the observatory building, which is next to De Young. A panoramic view of SF and a giant city map are waiting for you. 13pm - Cheesecake Factory Now that you start feeling cramps it should be nice stop by in one of a kind restaurant: Cheesecake Factory. It’s at the top loor of Macy’s and even if a chain it doesn’t look like that! you can ind burgers, salads, huge plates and of course the famous cheesecake (on the menu the choice of cheesecakes takes two pages!). (www.thecheesecakefactory.com) 3pm - Fisherman’s Wharf like a real turist After the rest it’s the moment to digest and see the maritime part of the city. At the end of market street it begins the Port of San Francisco and the Embarcadero area. It’s a long walk Pier after Pier to inally reach the Pier 39, aka Fisherman’s Wharf. This SF attraction is great for the dock view of Alcatraz and the overview of the Bay. If you’re asking yourself what is the strange smell and where the noise comes from.. just turn around and check it out.. Sea Lions are the main residents of the wharfs. 5pm - Shopping Shopping Shopping When you’re abroad Shopping is a MUST. The melting pot for your spending time is the West ield Shopping Centre and few shops near Powell. My personal choice is a mix of Forever 21, Urban Out itters (both near Powell) and American Eagle, Abercrombie and Fitch and J Crew ( which are in West ield). For a break or a drink you can surely go downstairs in the food court: Jamba Juice and Starbuck’s... but if you feel like that you need some more sugar, I highly recommend Cold Stone ice cream :) 8pm - Osha Thai: Dining near the Buddha sculpture It’s time already to have dinner and you feel like taste some asian fusion.. I’ve got it! Osha Thai in Justin Herman Plaza (that is in front of Pier 1). The fashionable ambience will help you to enjoy the dinner experience: drink a thai iced tea and try the fried banana as dessert! 10pm – @ Slide for a Long Island Ice Tea For the un lagging party people the day is not inished yet: it is the right time to have a drink at Slide (www.slidesf.com), which is free if you’re registered on the list. The club is small, without a sign outside but it’s usually pretty crowded by students (if it’s thursday night even better because it’s a theme night). 11pm – Dancing @ Rubyskye The next door outside Slide is Rubyskye (www.rubyskye.com): a classy disco with a terrace that overlook on the dance loor and with a good selection of djs. Unfortunately it takes time to get inside because of the line, but if you arrive at 11pm you should not have problems.

Best SPAs in the world And premiering the new section, I wanted to name the many SPA in the world, what they do and what are their peculiarities. One of the best spa, voted as the best, is called ONE AND ONLY-REETHI RAH, is a hotel in the Maldives islands. It is a hotel in the middle of an island with !ine sand that has a luxury spa. According to travelers the service is impeccable, there is plenty of space and beautiful well-preserved vegetation. Easily accessible, can be reached by fast boat in 45 minutes. The reception desk is lined with carved wooden columns. Physical activity, rest or relaxation, delicious tasting meals, excursions, animated evenings, the discovery of rich seabed ... Pure Luxury. Another one that is much loved is TANJONG JARA RESORT, in Malaysia. In this resort on the east coast of peninsular Malaysia they practice therapeutic techniques with centuries of tradition. Here treatments are called “experiences” and the area is devoted to a spa town (Spa Village) !illed with native plants, pools, fountains and paths. And !inally, the third (there are more but I will just name the top three) is called ESPERANZA, which is situated neither nothing more nor nothing less than in Los Cabos, Mexico. It has excellent facilities, exquisite treatments, and a truly unique environment. Some of their awards: It was voted the #1 Spa in Latin America by Travel & Leisure in 2007 and is ranked as one of the best 3 Massage & Spa Resorts in Los Cabos. I hope you relaxed ... Until next time!

Girl In The Mirror I was around 12 when I irst wanted to have plastic surgery. I was a skinny teenager and envious that my friends had big boobs. I used to hate when the lunchtime conversation turned to what bra size we were. My friends were taller than me and weighed more and therefore looked much older. I felt babyish in comparison with my straight up and down igure. For years later I obsessed about having a boob job and thought it would really boost my con idence. At the same time I started to become more paranoid about my thin lips. One girl called me ‘leaf lips’ and that remark has stuck with me all my life and made me feel very insecure. It’s rare that you’ll see a commercial with a thin lipped girl; full pouts are always more attractive. I can’t say how many make up tricks I have used to give the illusion of fuller lips or how many plumping lip glosses are in my bathroom cabinet. Apart from a stinging sensation, the plumping glosses simply do not work for me and I can’t begin to imagine how much money I have wasted on them. With regards to a boob job, I no longer desire to have one because I do not think I would necessarily suit it. For years I wanted one to it in to be like everybody else but I’ve grown to accept that I suit my body shape. Besides I love being able to squeeze into smaller dresses, which I wouldn’t be able to with bigger boobs. However, I am still open to the idea of having cosmetic procedures in the future. It may be shallow to admit, but I am terri ied of aging. My worst fear? Lips naturally thin as you age, so will mine disappear completely? Friends have told me that lip enhancement wouldn’t be me, that I would look like a stranger. Media articles about trout pouts have done little so quash concerns. If I did have my lips done I know I would feel more con ident and be able to wear any colour lipstick (FYI bright and dark colours only draw attention to thin lips). What is currently on my checklist? Lip enhancement and botox (but maybe that will be saved for another 10 years or so).
