Well, look no further. Your destination is Coyhaique River Lodge in Chile. Brothers Gaston and Claudio Urrejola own and operate the Lodge and have strategically positioned it conveniently to the Balmaceda airport, in an area widely considered as Chile’s trout fishing Mecca with the rolling foothills of the Andes and high snow covered peaks visible in every direction. A typical week of fishing might include the Simpson, Nirehuao, Paloma, Manihuales, Emperador Guillermo and Azul Rivers with several spring creeks and trophy lakes available to their guests. It’s an amazing variety of waters! CRL is a beautiful new Lodge overlooking the picturesque Rio Coyhaique valley and features eight spacious double suites with private baths. Each is equipped with two queen size beds, sitting area, and exquisite views of the Rio Coyhaique valley. All of this is well and good, but what truly helps draw us back to CRL is Gaston and Claudio. In our opinion, nothing beats having owners actively involved in the day-to-day business of running a lodge and these owners are present, visible, and involved in all aspects of the business. What to Expect
• Coyhaique River Lodge is located in the heart of Chile’s “trout country” an area full of water teeming with wild trout. Offering walk and stalk fishing as well as floating on some of the larger rivers Lodge owners and brothers Gaston and Claudio Urrejola have created a fishing program that allows you to sample the best of Coyhaique. • The diversity of the fishing options are rivaled only by the diverse scenery that you will encounter on the water. Coyhaique has river valleys with their own microclimates ranging from temperate rainforest to semi-arid. • The Lodge sits on a bluff overlooking a beautiful river valley that invites you to sit on the back deck with a fine wine or a Pisco Sour to watch a spectacular sunset. The living room and bar area is both inviting and comfortable and is where stories of the day are told and shared. After dining on a chef prepared meal you will retire to one of four comfortable twin-bedded rooms to rest for the next day’s adventure. Eight anglers will spend the week with Barry and Cathy in one of the most popular lodges in Chile.

About Barry & Cathy Beck
Longtime Frontiers trip hosts and photographers, the Becks travel far and wide to follow their love for fly fishing and nature photography. Based in Pennsylvania, Barry and Cathy write books, host fly fishing departures, lead African photo safaris, and operate a stock photography business. The Becks are well-known in the fishing, photography, and travel industries, and possess a stellar reputation for their skill, knowledge, and expertise born out of a 20 year career. Their books include Cathy Beck’s Fly Fishing Handbook, now in its third edition; Fly Waters Near and Far, Fly Fishing the Flats and a coffee table book of photographs from around the world.

Thursday, January 10
Depart United States via overnight commercial flight service to Santiago, Chile.
Friday, January 11
Arrive Santiago International Airport. After collecting your luggage and clearing customs, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. Frontiers can suggest multiple hotels to meet your price point but highly suggest staying at the Sheraton Santiago. Spend the rest of your day at leisure in Santiago.
Saturday, January 12
At a pre-arranged time you will be met at your hotel by your car and driver and transferred to the Santiago Airport. Depart Santiago via commercial flight service to Balmaceda. Upon arrival in Balmaceda, you will be met by a representative of Coyhaique River Lodge who will provide your transfer to the lodge, a drive of approximately 45-minutes. Settle in and enjoy this charming lodge, located just outside of the town of Coyhaique and mere steps from the Coyhaique River. Enjoy a pisco sour cocktail—Chile’s national drink and a welcome dinner.
Sunday, January 13 - Friday, January 18
Enjoy six full days of accommodations and fishing at the Coyhaique River Lodge. You will have the opportunity to fish the Rio Simpson, Rio Nirehuao, Rio Paloma and private streams accessed by the lodge through relationships with local farmers. The Coyhaique area is blessed with an abundance of trout water and there is certainly no shortage of interesting water to fish. Lunch is served streamside daily. Each evening you will return to the lodge for cocktails and dinner.
Saturday, January 19
After breakfast, you have two options: transfer to the airport for your connecting flight home, or stay overnight in Santiago (additional cost) and take a city tour of Valparaiso the next day.

Suggested Pre and Post Trip Extensions
At the conclusion of the fishing program, Frontiers suggests you take advantage of what Santiago and the surrounding areas have to offer. Frontiers is poised to coordinate any pre- or post- trip accommodations, but highly suggest the following: One-Day Extension in Valparaiso Your driver and guide will pick you up at your hotel in the morning for a 1 ½ hour drive west to the city of Valparaiso. The day begins at Errazuriz Street where examples of early 20th Century British influenced architecture can be seen. You will visit the 21 of May, a well-known view point that beautifully displays the colorful hillside houses, the port, and bay. You will then take the Artilleria elevator (funicular) and descend to take a trolley that will lead you towards Concepción Hill where you will walk the alleyways, through the Los Perales funicular, arriving at the Sotomayor Plaza, where you will see a monument dedicated to a few Chilean heroes.
Later in the day, you will head to one of the hills and visit the “La Sebastiana” museum, one of The City of Valparaiso the former homes of the Nobel Prize winning poet, Pablo Neruda. Apart from its interesting architecture reflecting the concept of the city, the place houses many of the poet’s collections. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant (lunch not included). In the afternoon, take the coastal road to the neighboring city of Viña del Mar, otherwise known as The Garden City. Here we will visit the floral clock and the Vergara Pier, the municipal casino and the famous Peru Avenue. Your trip continues as we ride along the coast where we can observe the beauty of this unique place. You will then return to the center of Viña del Mar, where you will finish your tour with a visit to the Francisco Vergara plaza, the Municipal Theater and Sucre Plaza. Atacama Spend at least three nights in Atacama staying at Awasi Atacama. Awasi Atacama: In the immensity of the Atacama Desert in the north of Chile, the driest, most desolate and arid in the world, the Andean Altiplano will surprise you with its dramatic, exotic, awe-inspiring beauty. San Pedro de Atacama, a small town surrounded by impressive natural scenery, was the cradle of ancestral cultures. Considered today to be the archaeological capital of Chile, San Pedro continues to be a silent witness of the passage of time.
Awasi Patagonia
Awasi is situated inside an ancient site surrounded by a historic wall, which for years housed shepherds and herders. Its privileged location just a stone’s throw from the center of town makes it possible to enjoy “town life.” Rapa Nui (Easter Island) explora Rapa Nui Lodge: Located 3,700 kilometers (2,237 miles) from the American continent, surrounded by the world’s most transparent waters, Rapa Nui is the cradle of an unusual and enigmatic culture which persists to this day. The language, music and many traditions remain alive amongst the island’s inhabitants, while the enormous carved stone moai tell of a more remote past. explora Rapa Lodge is built on 9.6 hectares (23.7 acres) of land situated on a hill in the Te Miro Oone area, explora Rapa Nui overlooking the ocean. This is in southeastern Rapa Nui, 8 kilometers (4.9 miles) from Hanga Roa, the most populated part of the island. All of the 30 rooms, which extend to the north and south from a central building, have ocean views and the lodge has welcoming indoor spaces which integrate aspects of the local culture. Wine Country One night extension into the wine country with Barry & Cathy Beck. You will be met by an English speaking guide and driver at the Santiago Airport for your one day excursion, exploring part of the Chilean wine country. Your day will begin with a stop in the Casablanca Valley – where the rich soil is very similar to the Napa and Sonoma Valleys in California. It is here that you will visit the Matetic Vineyard, known for producing exquisite white wines. Your visit will include a tour of the facilities, wine tasting and lunch at Equilibrio, the vineyard’s restaurant.
Chilean Vineyard
After lunch, you will continue on to the historical city of Valparaiso, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here you will soak up the architecture of the city, walk the sloping hills to explore its colorful homes and view this historic Chilean coastal sea port. The day will conclude with transportation back to your hotel.
Rates
7-night / 6-day fishing package based on double occupancy and shared guide: $5,050*. Internal Air: Santiago / Balmaceda / Santiago: The current LAN Chile ticket price is TBD and the Sky ticket price is TBD. Inclusions: Accommodations and meals at the lodge, beverages including wine, beer and bottled water, guided fishing, fishing licenses, and ground transportation to/from the Balmaceda airport.
Exclusions: Airfare to / from Balmaceda, Chile, fishing equipment and flies, cocktails, gratuities, items of personal nature including telephone calls, and laundry service. The fishing licenses fee is TBD and payable directly to the lodge. Deposits and Payments: A 50% deposit per person is required to secure a reservation. Reservations that have not been secured with a deposit within 14 days may be canceled. Final payments are due 60 days prior to the trip start date. Note: Coyhaique River Lodge accepts Visa, MasterCard, and US dollars as payment for all incidentals and fishing licenses.
