Take Your Travel Experience Further: The Hosted Trip Difference Unparalleled Service and Knowledge Every Step of the Way Dear Traveler, What makes Argentina so special? As trip hosts, the answer is simple, it’s dependable. But it’s more than just great fishing. It’s the culture of the country and weather that is pretty predictable. It’s the American West without the people and the progress of the last 100 years. The vastness sometimes overwhelms us and one trip is seldom enough for anyone. The lodges we visit each year are the best that Patagonia has to offer. While each is distinctively different, in many ways they are also similar. They are the best of the best. For the 2019 March departure we are offering three weeks in Argentina, which may be booked consecutively or as stand-alone departures – Tres Valles, San Huberto and Limay River Lodge. Estancia San Huberto and the Malleo River is one of our longest standing departures and is like a visit back to our home away from home. The Olsen family has held stewardship over the Rio Malleo for many generations. The late Ernest Schweibert once described the Malleo as the Queen of all Spring Creeks. Managed in European style, its many beats offer a variety of fishing opportunities. There is the weed choked channels of the Henry’s Fork, the riffles and runs of the Canyon, the cut bank at Andino’s, and the list goes on and on. There is more water here than one can fish. It can be hatch-matching at its best, or simply casting attractor flies to likely looking places, the choice is yours. Over the years we’ve come to know the Olsen family not just as hosts but as dear friends. We’ve watched the transition from Carlos and Carmen to their son Ronnie and his wife, Marianna, who are following in the family tradition of exceptional hospitality. A trip to Patagonia would not be complete without a visit to San Huberto. Regionally the Limay River Lodge and the Middle Limay River offer a smooth logistical transition and complete water diversity from the Malleo and would be an excellent choice for a second week in Patagonia. Sincerely,
What to Expect
• San Huberto hosts 16 guests-just 12 anglers please-in 4 single and 6 double rooms with ensuite bathrooms. The central bar is ideal for sharing fish stories and a bottle of Argentine Malbec. Advance reservations required to secure dates; this lodge has dedicated clientele and space is premium. • An optimum-sized stalk and wading river uninhibited by drift vessels, the Malleo is a target anglers dream. Select a feeding fish, study his habits and test yourself against nature’s wariest creature. The Malleo features serpentine meadow stretches, bouldered pocket water and glassy tail-outs.
About the Lodge
San Huberto: Near Junín de los Andes courses arguably the most famous river in the region, the Malleo, and Hosteria San Huberto. Notorious for her inexhaustible and diverse hatches, this spring creek like freestone is synonymous with dry fly fishing and Patagonia. The Olsen family’s 25,000acre San Huberto shelters 16 miles of premium pools and runs which are known to be the best and most densely trout populated in the entire river length. With Swiss watch efficiency, Carmen and Ronnie offer premium attention in a comfortable family atmosphere.
