Take Your Travel Experience Further: The Hosted Trip Difference Unparalleled Service and Knowledge Every Step of the Way Friends, After my first Smith River float last June, I was ready to turn around and start the wilderness float over again. Being a trout bum since ‘97 and chasing trout all over the country, it’s no wonder why I fell in love with this adventurous trip that every true fly fisherman has on their bucket list. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the other famous rivers out west, but the Smith has a special mystique to it. We had so much interest in the trip last year that we are hosting another trip next summer. What’s not to love about it? 59 miles of scenic river edged by the Lewis and Clark National Park, delicious fresh food for every meal, comfortable accommodations and plenty of trout willing to eat a fly. With technology expanding more and more every day, fishermen strive to go to the ends of the earth searching for a unique experience that takes them off the grid. One aspect of the trip that I enjoy (besides the fishing) is the camaraderie between everyone. Out of the 15 total people on the trip (eight anglers, four guides, and three gear boaters) no one is busy with work emails, business calls, or posting grip and grins on social media. This trip reminds you why you fly fish in the first place, to clear your mind and live in the moment - the fish are just a bonus. As mentioned above, the trip takes eight anglers. However, half of the spaces are already sold, so act quickly! Please feel free to give me a call or drop me an email to discuss the trip. I welcome the opportunity for you to join the departure. We also have non-hosted trips available for 2020 and will have 2021 launch dates soon. Sincerely,

What to Expect • A point to point five fishing day and four-night riverside glamping excursion on the coveted Smith River, Montana. • A tenured 25-year outfitter with veteran fly fishing guides traveling the river in modern drift boats or rafts – contingent on the water flow. • Modern glamping with comfortable tent sleeping accommodations, amazing chef-prepared food, and all the riverside creature comforts expected on a Frontiers departure.

About the Smith River Smith River Wilderness Float: The Smith River float is a 60-mile point to point adventure in a limited access Smith River State Park wilderness area. The freestone river is bordered by majestic limestone cliffs and rolling green meadows and teams with rainbow and brown trout and a number of healthy hatches.

After collecting luggage, you transfer directly to a pre-booked hotel for a pre-float overnight. Overnight in Helena, Montana Please have your week long Montana fishing license prior to your arrival.

Monday, June 22

This morning you are picked up at the hotel by a guide, and transferred to the put-in at Camp Baker for the start of the float trip. Fishing today – Overnight on the river. For the next three days you will fish your way down river through the Lewis & Clark Wildlands on the Smith River.

Tuesday, June 23 - Thursday, June 25

For the next three days you fish down river through the Lewis & Clark Wildlands on the Smith River. You put in at Camp Baker and float north stopping at camps each night along the way to the takeout at Eden Bridge. The river is best known for its scenic beauty, remote setting, tall limestone walls, wildlife viewing and considered a blue-ribbon trout fishery. The river is only accessible by nonmotorized watercraft, which includes drift boats, rafts, canoes and kayaks with one public put-in and take-out for 59 river miles. Each day, experienced guides float you down a section of river for a great day of fishing, provide lunch, snacks, and refreshments, and at the end of the day arrive at camp. Freshly made hors-d’oeuvres, beer, wine, and refreshments await you, followed by a delicious riverside dinner prepared for you by the talented staff. The float season begins in early May and typically ends the middle of July. The emphasis of our trips is on fly-fishing, with each bend beckoning the angler to tempt a trout to the fly. Anglers have a 50/50 split between rainbow and brown trout with the average size being 13″ (an average size for a Montana trout that inhabits a freestone stream). However, there is very healthy population of trout in the 16-18 inch range and enough 20-inch trout to keep you actively engaged in each cast for 60 miles.
