It was on a trial run for a new flying safari called “Sasafari.” The operators designed a wonderful itinerary utilizing Aero-Commander aircraft which stayed with the party throughout South Africa, Botswana, what was then Rhodesia, and Mozambique. It remained viable until 1976 when winds of political change swept the region. In those short five years, we were honored to be chosen as the safari operator for such special-interest groups as the Board of Directors of the San Diego Zoo; the Board of the Denver Museum of Natural History; the National Wildlife Federation; the American Museum of Natural History; and the National Audubon Society. Thereafter, we focused more on East Africa and coordinated the Africa travel on multiple departures for the Smithsonian Associates and the World Wildlife Fund. Along the way our staff became well experienced, and we were sought out by discerning travelers to develop private itineraries embracing a wide range of interests.
