THE TIGER TOUR BY PRIVATE AIR AN ULTIMATE NEW ZEALAND GOLFING EXPERIENCE

Cape Kidnappers, Hawke’s Bay

Jack’s Point, Queenstown

“I REALLY HOPE THAT BY TAKING THE ‘TIGER TOUR’ YOU COME TO ENJOY NEW ZEALAND AS MUCH AS MY FAMILY AND I DO; AS IT TRULY IS A REMARKABLE PLACE” - Julian H. Robertson Jnr.

Julian H. Robertson, legendary hedge fund manager and philanthropist, has invested heavily in his 40-year love affair with New Zealand. Together with his late wife, Josie, and their family, Julian has created three of Asia-Pacific’s most feted luxury lodges and two of the very best golf courses in the world. The Tiger Tour is Julian’s personal vision of how discerning travelers can best experience his favourite destination and meet the people who make New Zealand so special. He invites you to see and experience this country as he sees it, and discover the immense charm of New Zealand’s diverse, beguiling landscape. This boutique, luxury tour provides an opportunity to make memories that are not possible within any single country anywhere else in the world. Starting in the sub-tropical far north, travelling through the wine region Hawke’s Bay, and concluding at the alpine lake village of Queenstown, the Tiger Tour connects guests (via private air and EC-130 B4 helicopter) with some of the most unique, contrasting, untouched scenery on Earth, from private pink-sand beaches and spectacular volcanoes, to lakes, mountains and monolithic glaciers. To all of this, The Tiger Tour adds an extra-special component: the unique, disarming charm of your Kiwi hosts.

THE TIGER TOUR Incorporating the best of New Zealand’s North and South Islands, the Tiger Tour features nine nights, three award-winning lodges and dozens of out-of-this-world destination options. The Tour is inclusive of acclaimed cuisine, green fees at stunning golf courses, quintessentially Kiwi experiences and the opportunity to mingle with distinctive New Zealanders, human and otherwise. Your first destination is The Lodge at Kauri Cliffs, with the Cavalli Islands and Cape Brett providing the backdrop to a worldrenowned golf course, designed by David Harman. Fifteen holes boast long, splendid views of the South Pacific, while six play directly alongside cliffs that plunge down to the sea. The course is also ranked among the Top 100 in the world and the surrounding area is known across the Southern Hemisphere for its beautiful beaches, spectacular sailing and world-class deep-sea fishing. The next stop is The Farm at Cape Kidnappers, located in the heart of Hawke’s Bay Wine Country. The property also features a world-renowned golf course, this one designed by architect Tom Doak. Perched high above the Pacific, atop dramatic white cliffs, this layout has been hailed as one of golf’s modern marvels by the world golfing press, including a ranking among the top 20 courses on Earth by Golf Digest. Aside from its celebrated wines, the area’s exquisitely rugged landscape represents a singular opportunity to explore the beauty of this island nation’s rare and idiosyncratic wildlife. The Tiger Tour concludes at Matakauri Lodge. Magnificently situated on the shores of Lake Wakatipu, Matakauri provides an intimate, luxuriously chic base camp for some of the most exciting aspects of this itinerary. Queenstown complements its well-earned reputation as “Adventure Capital of the World” with sumptuous wine, cuisine and shopping. This small city is also gateway to the mind-blowing glaciers and fjords of Milford Sound. Put simply, with each passing day this tour sets the extraordinary side by side with the intimate, and bathes it all in world-class luxury.

The Maori mythology surrounding this majestic tree and the Waipoua forest will leave you spellbound. Afterward, lift off from Omapere for the quick flight back to the East Coast and over the scenic Bay of Islands before landing at The Lodge at Kauri Cliffs. Lunch is at your own leisure and available to be taken at the lodge, from the Pro Shop 19th Tee or packed as a picnic. Pre-dinner cocktails and dinner at the lodge will conclude the day’s adventure.

DAY FOUR: Following breakfast it is time to depart by helicopter, taking off directly from Kauri Cliffs heli pad and flying delightfully indirect to Auckland. Your flight path will follow the stunning eastern coastline, offering possible marine sightings along the way before landing at Auckland Airport where you will board your private aircraft for the flight to Napier.

Set on 6,000 acres of stunning coastland, The Lodge at Kauri Cliffs is one of the most celebrated boutique resort hotels in the world. Recently crowned #1 Resort in Australia and New Zealand in Travel + Leisure Magazine’s World’s Best Awards, Kauri Cliffs is the inaugural and flagship property from the Robertson family.

The property is designed to champion the magnificent ocean panorama and award-winning 18-hole, David Harman-designed golf course, and it does so spectacularly. Fifteen of the holes boast stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, while six play alongside cliffs that plunge down to the sea. The beautiful inland holes wind through marsh, forest and farmland. Ranked #49 among the Top 100 Golf Courses in the World by Golf Digest, the course stretches 7,151 yards (6,539 metres) and provides five sets of tees to allow enjoyment for every skill level.

DAY FOUR: Upon arrival at Cape Kidnappers, you will be met by a private guide and taken to Craggy Range Winery for lunch at Terroir Restaurant overlooking Te Mata Peak, the lake and vineyards. The wine maker will join you in preparing a special Tiger Tour blend that will be bottled to take home. This evening experience a special guided dinner in the Wine Cellar, showcasing the best of Hawke’s Bay wine and food

DAY FIVE: You’ll start your day with the challenge of our dramatic 18-hole golf course, designed by architect Tom Doak. Carts and green fees are included. After the round, share stories of magnificent shots and beautiful scenery over lunch in our golf clubhouse, in the lodge dining room or packed as a picnic to be enjoyed elsewhere on the property. In the afternoon experience a very special Sanctuary Discovery Walk. This is an incredible opportunity to interact with the kiwi bird – best recognized as the national symbol of New Zealand — and an opportunity that can only be experienced as a guest at Cape Kidnappers. Sanctuary manager Beau and his team will lead you on an adventure across the property in search of the New Zealand Brown Kiwi. Using radio tracking and monitoring devices, you will take turns searching for this elusive, flightless creature. Once found, guests will have a chance to get up close and personal with one of New Zealand’s most endangered and rare birds.

DAYS 4-7

Beau will then introduce you to one of the few very special Tuatara who have been released and are now thriving at the property. The Tuatara, a species only found in New Zealand, is the last surviving member of the dinosaur family with a lineage dating back more than 200 million years. You’ll end this remarkable day with pre-dinner drinks at Black Reef, followed by a gourmet BBQ dinner at the clubhouse

DAY SIX: Your final, full day in Hawke’s Bay offers another chance to play 18 holes on Cape Kidnappers course. Lunch will be served at your leisure in the lodge dining room, golf clubhouse or packed as a picnic to be enjoyed on the property. The afternoon is at your leisure. You might like to reserve an adventure tour of the property by Can Am, Clay Target shooting, a regional tour of Hawke’s Bay or perhaps indulge in treatments at the Spa. Pre-dinner drinks and dinner are at your leisure this evening, to be enjoyed at a time that suits you in the lodge dining room or one of the private dining spaces available.

DAY SEVEN: Following a leisurely breakfast and check-out, we bid adieu to Hawke’s Bay travelling by chauffeur driven car to Napier Airport. Not only is this unique property is home to a magnificent luxury lodge, it also boasts one of the world’s top golf courses, a sanctuary for some of New Zealand’s most precious flora and fauna, and a working commercial farm. Warm and enveloping, Cape Kidnappers is ranked as one of the top two hotels in the South Pacific and the top 20 hotels in the world by Conde Nast Traveller 2017, and it’s not hard to see why.

Cape Kidnappers features 18 holes of golf designed by world-renowned golf architect Tom Doak. The course is built on a ridge-and-valley landscape, high above the ocean atop dramatic cliffs and has been hailed as one of the great modern marvels in golf. It is consistently named as one of the Top 20 golf courses in the world.

From Napier, board your private flight to Queenstown via charter.

DAY SEVEN: As fits the reputation of Queenstown, there is no rest on arrival. Upon landing at Queenstown Airport, you will be whisked to your first golfing experience, with lunch and a round of golf at The Hills Private Golf Club. This remarkable course nestled in the Southern Alps started as a ‘pitch and putt’ in the backyard of Sir Michael Hill and is now a world class championship golf course. Following golf, you will check in to your accommodation at Matakauri. Settle in and refresh at your own leisure for dinner. Pre-dinner cocktails and dinner are at your individual leisure this evening at Matakauri Lodge.

This is a quintessential New Zealand experience – memory-making at its finest. Fly over the mountains and enjoy the famous glacier-imbued scenery of Milford Sound, a ‘must see’ in the ultimate New Zealand itinerary. On this trip you will visit beaches and glaciers seldom explored. Simply put – you will be treated to a singular immersion into a primeval world, a paradise for photographers where beauty and ruggedness will blow you away. Your tour will conclude at Jack’s Point Golf Club where lunch will be in the club house, prior to enjoying a round on the course. Pre-dinner drinks and dinner are scheduled for Matakauri Lodge, but meals can alternatively be arranged for guests at any one of our recommended restaurants in Queenstown.

DAYS 7-10

DAY NINE: This is the final, full day in Queenstown and we encourage you to experience one of two parting activities – choose from either another round of golf playing Jack’s Point or a personalized wine excursion in the Southern Lakes Region. The wine excursion will have you visiting Gibbston Valley’s bourgeoning wine region, the Southernmost wine producing region in the world. Here extreme conditions have led to pioneering winemaking, consistently superb wines and worldwide recognition. After your chosen activity, enjoy an afternoon to explore Queenstown at your leisure. Pre-dinner drinks and a final farewell dinner are scheduled for the Matakauri dining room.

DAY TEN: Following a relaxed breakfast at Matakauri the Tiger Tour concludes. Conclusion of the Tiger Tour includes the option to extend one’s stay at Matakauri and further explore the region, or check out and depart for your onward journey.
