GUY ROBERTSON Robertson’s coaching resume at Frostburg not only shows 225 overall wins, but 55 victories in the CAC since FSU joined in 2011, seven All-Americans, a draft pick with MLB’s Atlanta Braves and a 2011 NCAA Tournament appearance. Robertson guided the Bobcats to 28-13 record and an 11-5 slate in the CAC in 2014. Frostburg made its fourth-straight appearance in the CAC tournament while six Bobcats earned a spot on the All-CAC teams. The Frostburg pitching staff led the CAC with 285 strike outs while the Bobcats led the league in batting average (.338), doubles (110), triples (22), extra base hits (149), and slugging percentage (.478). Frostburg State finished 25-15 overall with an appearance in the CAC Tournament in 2013. Junior Kevin Kean became FSU’s third All-American since Robertson’s arrival and he helped the Bobcats lead the CAC in doubles (104), home runs (20), scoring (7.3 runs per game),

Known as one of the top coaches on the east coast, Guy Robertson enters his ninth season at the helm of the Frostburg baseball program in 2016 and is the program’s second-winningest coach. Robertson pushed his Bobcat program to new heights following a record-setting season a year ago and he now boasts 225 wins during his tenure at Frostburg. His Bobcat squads have advanced to the conference tournament in each of his eight seasons with a pair of NCAA Tournament appearances. The Bobcats finished last spring ranked second in the country in wins (43) and in both major national polls (ABCA & D3baseball.com). The win total eclipsed Frostburg’s school record by eight victories and set the Capital Athletic Conference record as well. Frostburg opened the season 12-0, tossed Division III’s first no-hitter, and captured both the CAC regular-season and tournament titles. Following the tournament crown,

2016 BOBCAT BASEBALL the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2007, after earning the No. 2 seed and knocking off the top-seeded Salisbury Sea Gulls in the semifinal round. For the second-consecutive season, Robertson earned conference Coach of the Year honors. Senior Greg Ross was named the CAC Player of the Year and First Team selection, while the Bobcats placed four other players on the All-CAC Teams. Ross was also named to the ABCA All-America First Team, D3baseball.com All-America Second Team, as well as ABCA Mid-Atlantic Pitcher of the Year and First Team selection. Greene was named to the Mid-Atlantic Third Team and was named an ECAC South All-Star. Following the 2011 season, Ross was drafted in the 18th round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Atlanta Braves and has spent the last five seasons in the Braves farm system. season with the AA Mississippi Braves. As a team, the Bobcats finished in the top half of the CAC in nearly every statistical category. Frostburg hit .291 as a team (third) and had a .417 slugging percentage (second). The

Bobcats also had the second best earned run average (3.51), opposing batting average (.256), and strikeouts (301). Over his first three years at the helm, Robertson guided the Bobcats to 79 wins, including a 45-11 mark in the AMCC. In 2010, Frostburg posted a 32-13 overall record, the second most wins in a season at the time and won the AMCC regular season championship. Robertson was crowned AMCC Coach of the Year and Frostburg set seven single-season school records. Matt Greene was selected as a D3baseball.com Second Team All-American. In ’09, Robertson led Frostburg to the ECAC South Region Championship and 25 overall wins. In his first season, Robertson guided Frostburg to 22 wins and the program’s 11th-consecutive trip to the AMCC Tournament. Robertson arrived at Frostburg after serving as the Director of Recruiting for the Baseball Factory in Columbia, Md. from July 2006 to September 2007. While there, he helped place kids with colleges and universities all across the country at all levels. Robertson served as the head coach at NCAA Division I Coppin State from 2002 through 2006. He is the school’s all-time leader in winning percentage, second all-time in both CSU wins (64) and MEAC wins (30). He also holds the school record for victories in a single-season (21). In 2005, he was selected as the MEAC Coach of the Year after posting a 10-7 league record. Prior to CSU, he served as the head coach for the Asheboro Copperheads of the Coastal Plains Collegiate Summer League and the St. Cloud River Bats of the Northwoods Collegiate Summer League. Robertson has also served as an assistant coach for both Towson and Georgetown Universities. Throughout his coaching career, Robertson has coached several camps and clinics and has served on the NCAA Regional Selection Committee. He coached camps for the University of Maryland, William and Mary, Naval Academy, Robert Clemente Baseball Camp and has helped with the Baseball Weekly Instructional Series. A native of Westminster, Md., Robertson played four years of baseball at Elon where he earned his bachelor’s degree in sports management in 1999. He later earned his masters of science in physical education and exercise science from McDaniel in December of 2003. He and his wife, the former Lisa Bumgarner, are the proud parents of Alexandra (9) and Gabriella (7).

STRATCHKO ASSISTANT COACH Fifth Season

#3 4 Bernie Stratchko enters his fifth season as an assistant for the Frostburg State baseball team in 2016 and will once again work with the hitters and infielders. In his four previous seasons, Stratchko has helped Frostburg to a total of 113 wins and four appearances in the CAC Tournament. He has helped 26 players reach All-CAC honors. Last year, Frostburg enjoyed one of the best seasons in Division III as it set both a school and CAC record and finished second in the nation with 43 wins. The Bobcats captured both the CAC regular-season and tournament titles, won their first-ever NCAA Mideast Regional and made their first appearance in the NCAA World Series. Frostburg finished second in the country according to both major national polls. The Bobcats also led the nation in home runs (46), walks (237) and fielding percentage (.975). Following the 2014 season, the Bobcats topped the CAC in batting average (.338), doubles (110), triples (22) and slugging percentage (.478). Stratchko led five players to CAC honors including First Team honors for junior Zach Weiss. The third baseman led the league in at bats (183) and hits (73). Frostburg saw two of its single-season records fall in 2014 as Zach Weiss set the record for at bats (183) and Kam Stewart set the mark for triples with nine. In 2013, the Bobcats led the CAC in doubles (104), home runs (20), scoring (7.3 runs per game), slugging percentage (.457) and triples (.40). Following the regular season, junior Kevin Kean was named the CAC Player of the Year after a breakout performance in his first year as a Bobcat. Rob Jennings set the school record for sacrifice flies in a single season under Stratchko’s watch with seven. In his first year with Frostburg, Stratchko helped two Bobcat hitters to an All-CAC year as seniors Torian Cyrus and John Barrett garnered second team honors following the regular season. Stratchko played shortstop and third base at the College of Southern Maryland before finishing his career at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Stratchko earned his MBA from Frostburg State University in May 2014.

Dom Fratantuono enters his second season with the Frostburg State baseball coaching staff in 2016 after graduating from Towson University in May 2014. Last spring, Fratantuono helped the Bobcats to one of the best seasons in program history behind a school and CAC record 43 wins, the CAC regular-season and tournament titles, along with the program’s first NCAA Mideast Regional Championship and World Series appearance. Fratantuono helped senior Nick Walker earn All-American honors in centerfield. Fratantuono was a four year starter while at Towson University. He appeared in a total of 209 games for the Tigers and led the team with a .342 batting average during his junior season with 79 hits. Fratantuono hit 8 homeruns and drove in 53 runs while swiping 15 bases. He was honored as CAA player of the week and Northeast Player of the week twice. He was named to the CAA All-Conference and ABCA all region teams that year. Fratantuono led the Tigers to their first ever CAA Championship and was the Tigers’ top

hitter in CAA Tournament with a .600 batting average. He was named to CAA All-Tournament team after collecting hit one double, one triple and two home runs and had seven RBI in tournament including a 3-4 effort in CAA title game. Fratantuono was named player to watch in Chapel Hill Regional and was named a 2014 preseason All-CAA selection. The CAA coaches voted Fratantuono the biggest power threat, top defensive arm and top defensive outfielder in preseason. In 2014 Fratantuono became the 18th player in school history to record 200 hits in his career. Fratantuono ended his career amongst the leaders in games played, batting average, hits, walks, triples and stolen bases. He finished as.305 hitter with 214 hits, 42 doubles, 19 homeruns and 43 stolen bases. Fratantuono graduated from Towson with a criminal justice degree and will be pursuing his MBA.

BEACHY ASSISTANT COACH Second Season

#3 5 Greg Beachy returns to Frostburg for his third season as an assistant coach in 2016. Following his final season on the mound for the Bobcats, Beachy served as an assistant coach for Robertson for the 2011 season. Last spring, Beachy helped the Bobcats to one of the best seasons in program history behind a school and CAC record 43 wins, the CAC regular-season and tournament titles, along with the program’s first NCAA Mideast Regional Championship and World Series appearance. Beachy helped three pitchers earn All-American status as Clayton Freimuth, Bennett Schiltz and Greg Schneider emerged as one of the top pitching staff’s in the country. In 2011, Beachy worked with the pitchers and helped the Bobcats to a 28-15 record and a Capital Athletic Conference championship. The pitching staff finished the year with a 3.24 ERA while a pair of senior pitchers, Greg Ross and Josh Davis, earned a spot on the All-CAC teams. Ross was named Player of the Year and later drafted in the 18th round of the Major League Baseball draft by the Atlanta Braves. After obtaining his undergraduate degree from FSU, Beachy served as an assistant coach at Garret College from 2011 to 2013. Following his time at Garrett, Beachy was named the pitching coach at Northern Garrett High School in 2014. For the past two years, Greg has been working as a teacher at The Jefferson School at Finan in Cumberland, Md. Beachy and his wife Hannah reside in Friendsville, Md. with their daughter Kendall. Beachy is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree in Special Education at FSU.

2016 SEASON PREVIEW

2016 BOBCAT BASEBALL

With the start of the 2016 season just days away, the historical 2015 campaign is squarely in the rearview mirror for 10th-ranked Frostburg State and ninth-year head coach Guy Robertson. However, just because the ’15 season is just that, history, doesn’t mean that it didn’t create a blueprint for future Bobcat teams. “I think last season is a cornerstone for our program moving forward because we understand how to use that experience and blend what we accomplished with our recruiting and developing of future players,” said Robertson. “We understand what it took and what it will take to get back to the highest level.” Last spring, Frostburg finished second in the nation in wins (43) and were ranked No. 2 at the end of the season in both major national polls (ABCA & D3baseball.com). The Bobcats set both the Capital Athletic Conference and Frostburg record for wins in a season, captured both the CAC regular-season and tournament titles, won the program’s first NCAA Mideast Regional Championship and made its first appearance in the NCAA World Series. What will also aid in the program’s goal of reaching the World Series again this season is the fact that Frostburg returns a pair of All-Americans, two All-Capital Athletic Conference honorees and 22 players from last season’s roster. “What will help us is that a large number of those guys are still in the program,” noted Robertson. “Last season is an important chapter in our program’s history, but it’s important to move forward knowing that we have now raised the bar on our expectations.” Last spring, Frostburg boasted one of the nation’s top pitching staffs and this season won’t be any different as the depth of the staff should allow the group to be highly successful. Robertson also noted that what made the staff so great was that his pitchers fit their roles perfectly and he doesn’t expect much to change again this spring. “We brought in some recruits to help fill some gaps because we kept some of our returners in their successful roles from last season,” said Robertson. “We (staff) didn’t feel like we needed to change things too much because the pitchers were a big reason we accomplished what we did.” This year’s staff will be built around All-American starter Greg Schneider and the talented group of returners. Schneider garnered All-American honors as a utility player by D3baseball.com last spring and has been named a preseason All-American by two different publications this spring. Schneider, a sophomore, finished his freshman campaign ranked second in the country in strikeouts (98), 12th in victories (9) and 55th in ERA (1.85). When Schneider wasn’t pitching, he hit .333 with 31 hits, 23 runs, three HRs and 14 RBI. Joining Schneider as key returners to the staff this season will be seniors Nick Huff, Logan Hunt and Kyle McCormack, along with junior Ryan Callahan and sophomore Daniel Richardson. Huff stands out to the coaching staff because of his drive to succeed and they are confident he can build on his 2-0 record and six saves from a year ago. He posted saves in some of Frostburg’s biggest wins of the season, including the CAC Tournament Championship game over Salisbury, three in the NCAA Mideast Regional and twice against Ramapo in the NCAA World Series. McCormack and Hunt also worked out of the bullpen

a year ago and will continue in those roles again this year. McCormack appeared in 10 games, while earning one win with 16 strikeouts, while Hunt pitched in six contests with 12 strikeouts. Callahan saw significant innings as both a freshman and sophomore and will see more time in his third year with the program. He was fourth on the roster last spring with five wins in nine starts with 34 strikeouts in 47.2 innings pitched. The coaching staff is also expecting big things in the spring from Richardson after pitching in 10 games as a freshman. He allowed just nine earned runs with 19 strikeouts. A pair of newcomers, senior Anderson Burgess and sophomore Lane Ward, will also make a push to crack the starting rotation. Burgess, a tall left hander, might enter the season as the #2 starter and was voted team MVP as a senior at La Plata High School, while Ward has impressed the coaches this spring and could take over significant innings from the starters that graduated last year. In the field, Robertson and his staff have made a huge push over the last several years to form a strong defensive middle. A year ago, the Bobcats were the NCAA statistical champion after pacing the country with a .975 fielding percentage. They were also fifth nationally with 48 double plays and allowed the 11th fewest hits per nine innings (7.93). Robertson and his staff will welcome in a solid mix of returners with talented newcomers that should help fill some openings that were created due to graduation. The returners will be highlighted by seniors Zach Keeler, Connor Cooper, Jamal Windom and Jeremy Remalia, along with junior JT Tipton. Keeler served primarily as Frostburg’s designated hitter as a junior, but will see more time at catcher in his final season. Keeler, an Academic All-American and All-CAC selection, was sixth on the team last year with a .327 batting average to go along with 50 hits, 36 runs and 30 RBI. The coaching staff will utilize him in the lineup as much as possible this season. The coaching staff feels Cooper has taken a big step offensively so far this preseason and expect him to improve on his 33 hits, 16 runs and 25 RBI from a season ago. He might also move from the outfield back to the infield at first base. Windom enters the season as the starter at centerfield after appearing in 41 games as a junior. He registered 16 hits, 14 runs and seven RBI in a limited role and should increase his numbers this year. Throughout the preseason, Remalia has emerged as a corner infielder and could help fill openings at either first of third base. In 38 at bats last spring, he registered nine hits, scored four runs and drove in five runs. Tipton took over the starting spot at second base last season and that shouldn’t change this season after proving to be one of the top middle infielders in the CAC. Tipton finished second on the team with 127 assists and was sixth with 60 put outs. He was also second on the roster with 10 stolen bases and collected 43 hits, 35 runs and 21 RBI. Junior Cody Harman, senior KJ Hockaday, junior Devin Bell and junior Brad Garrant have stood out to the coaching staff this spring and all four should help fill some of the gaps after last season. Harman has emerged as the front runner for the

starting spot behind the plate, while Hockaday will fill a void at either shortstop or third base. Both had standout high school careers and both players were Brooks Robinson All-Star game participants. The coaching staff was also quick to point out that both Bell and Garrant should help replace some of the holes in the lineup that were created by graduation. Senior Pat Sines served as a reserve outfielder and pinch hitter as a junior and the coaching staff believes he will fill a greater role on this year’s club. He it .312 in 16 at bats with five hits, two runs, five walks, stole two bases and drove in one. Schedule If the 2016 version of the Bobcats want to make it to the World Series, they will have plenty of tests along the road both in and out of the CAC. Frostburg will face three ranked opponents and two teams that are receiving votes according to the preseason D3baseball.com poll. The Bobcats tough schedule will be headlined by Salisbury (#4), Shenandoah (#16) and Marietta (#24), along with both La Roche and Mary Washington who are receiving votes in the poll. FSU opens its season with back-to-back trips to North Carolina before the Stevenson Tournament in early March. Frostburg opens CAC action with a visit to Penn State Harrisburg on March 12, while the CAC Tournament is slated to begin on April 19.
