Head Coach Aaron Wilf AARON WILF
Head Coach | Dickinson Second Season
Coach of the Year, Wilf was responsible for the three best seasons in terms of wins in the program’s history. In 2012, La Roche rebounded from a slow start to the season to earn the program’s first NCAA Tournament bid after winning the AMCC Tournament Championship. Wilf’s Redhawks upset the league’s top team and a seven-time champion en route to the league title. For his efforts, Wilf was selected as the AMCC Coach of the Year for second-straight season after guiding the Redhawks to a program record 10 wins. He also served as a representative on the NCAA Regional Women’s Tennis Committee. Wilf achieved immediate success in his first season at the helm of La Roche in 2011. His team posted the AMCC’s highest winning percentage, earned the highest team GPA at the school, broke over 20 school records and collected the most wins in a season at that time. His Redhawks finished third in the AMCC regular-season and tournament standings, which were the best finishes in school history at the time and he collected his first AMCC Coach of the Year award. From 2013-15, Wilf’s teams collected numerous All-AMCC honors and he brought in the three largest recruiting classes in program history. In the spring of 2016, Wilf also served as the head tennis
partment where he taught tennis courses and served as a faculty supervisor for various independent studies. He also worked for several years as the Study Hall Coordinator. Before joining the collegiate ranks, Wilf spent three years as the Head Tennis Coach at Butler High School winning the section title in his first year. In two of the three seasons his team’s finished in the top 10 in the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL), and he coached multiple players to individual section titles. Since college, Wilf has also served as a professional tennis instructor, teaching at Lakevue Athletic Club for six years and at Oxford Athletic Club, in Wexford for two years. He is certified through the USPTR (United States Professional Tennis Registry). Coach Wilf, originally from Pittsburgh, Pa., attended City League perennial tennis power Taylor Allderdice High School where his team won four-straight team City League Championships and he individually won two City Titles; he was named to the All-State Team his junior and senior seasons. Coach Wilf also serves as the head tennis coach for Team USA in the Maccabiah Olympics, which is a branch of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). 2017-18 Season Preview Second year Frostburg tennis coach Aaron Wilf and his staff have worked relentlessly since they arrived on campus to rebuild the Bobcat tennis programs and this spring has the potential for the Bobcats to make a charge up the CAC standings. In Wilf’s first year the men’s team doubled their win total from the previous year and the women’s team more than tripled theirs. Heading into their spring schedule, the Frostburg women carry a 2-2 record that includes a 9-0 shutout of Waynesburg. Meanwhile, the Bobcat men enter the spring with a 1-2 overall record with a narrow 5-4 win over Waynesburg in the fall opener. Both teams return a plethora of talented players who have a full year in Wilf’s system and both teams resume their season on Saturday, March 3 at McDaniel. Look Who’s Back The women’s team returns a core of four players that played a significant role last spring in Wilf’s first year at the helm. For the women, junior Jenna Lipinski along with sophomores Allison Paul, Kate Paylor and Sammi Turner will be the backbone of the program this spring. Lipinski heads into the spring season with a full head of steam as she posted a 3-1 singles record and added two more doubles win during the fall season. About Frostburg
From its inaugural class of 57 students, Frostburg State University has grown to a present day enrollment of nearly 5,000 students. Its physical plant, once limited to a single building, Old Main, which housed classrooms and a library, has also grown to over 30 facilities including classroom buildings, residence halls, the Lewis J. Ort Library, the Harold J. Cordts Physical Education Center, the Lane University Center, the Performing Arts Center and the new Compton Science Center, all situated on 260 beautiful acres. Opened in 1902 as State Normal School No. 2, the University owes its existence to the tenacity of J. Benson Oder, editor of the Frostburg Mining Journal, and the citizens of Frostburg who, in spite of political barriers, raised funds and purchased the site on which “Old Main,” the University’s first building, is located. Principal Edmund Dandridge Murdaugh and three faculty instructed the first Normal School class; in addition, the other faculty taught 151 children in the Model School. The Normal School students, who were high school students having to meet no requirements other than age (girls, 16; boys, 17), had but one two-year course of study: elementary education. The curriculum consisted of Latin, mathematics, history, rhetoric and literature, natural and physical sciences, drawing, music, calisthenics, psychology, philosophy of education, philosophy of school management, pedagogy, observation, practice work and primary manual training. Over the years, the name of the institution has reflected the changes in the scope of its educational mission. In 1935, State Normal School No. 2 became State Teachers College at Frostburg, a four-year college that offered a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. In 1963, the name became Frostburg State College, and finally in 1987, with the strong support of the local civic and business community, became Frostburg State University, an indication of its growing resources, diversity and excellence in educational opportunities for the region and the state. In 1988, FSU became a constituent institution of the University System of Maryland, comprised of 11 of the state’s 13 public institutions. Throughout its growth, the University has emphasized

excellence in teaching. Over 80 percent of the full-time faculty hold Ph.D.s or terminal degrees from institutions that are among the most prestigious in the nation. Faculty scholarship has led to scholarly books, manuals and journals, as well as numerous articles and reviews. This excellence in faculty has resulted in superior results for students. FSU has been ranked first among its peers for the number of doctorates per 100 baccalaureate degrees awarded. In the same study, FSU was ranked second in the percentage of national, prestigious awards received by faculty. These have included Fulbrights and significant grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Endowment for the Arts and other national associations. At the same time, the University has developed comparable excellence in academic programs, research, consulting, cultural and athletic events and facilities. In recent years the campus has consistently received a superior rating, the highest state award given for facilities and maintenance. Today, the University’s mission and services have expanded significantly. Over 400 full-time administrators and support staff and more than 200 full-time faculty serve the educational needs of students who come not only from throughout Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Technical and Professional Studies and Bachelor of Science in Urban and Regional Planning degrees as well as graduate degrees in applied ecology and conservation biology, business administration, counseling psychology, education, wildlife/fisheries biology, park and recreation resource management, teaching and applied computer science.
