The current architectonic structure of the Four Seasons Hotel Milano resembles an archeological site in its hybrid array of different styles: the ground floor invites images of the Renaissance, while the upper floors and façade preserve much of their neo-classical character. The sheer modernity of our own times is to be found almost everywhere in the varied and exhaustive range of services available. Indeed it is precisely this harmonious co-existence of three different ‘architectures’ and their respective eras that sets the Four Seasons Hotel Milano apart from all the rest, enriching its uniqueness and exalting the value of its genius loci.

Via Gesù derives from Borgo (meaning village in Italian) Gesù so called after the church and convent built in 1456 by the nuns of Saint Elisabeth. In 1469 a Papal seal authorized the Franciscan nuns to devote themselves to St. Clare, and to thereafter be called ‘Clarisses’. The convent was then dedicated to Santa Maria del Gesù (Saint Mary of Jesus) in accordance with the wishes of Bernardino da Siena, whose utmost desire was to have the power of the name of Christ ringing out in all very sacred places. In 1782 the Marquis of Adda took ownership and the convent was converted into a palazzo.

Our beautiful hotel was once a XV convent. A complete Genius Loci history is available at the desk. A member of the staff will be happy to escort you on a short guided tour.
