We are definitely in the dog days of summer with our temps reaching three digits and getting motivated to do anything outside is a struggle. The thought of heading out to the HS property to start putting ideas and plans into action for our October event brings mixed emotions as one side of my brain says we need to get started and the other side says, “are you out of your mind”. Take a guess which brain cells wins the
“Brain Size Award”. Yeah, you guessed it, our start date is in late August. This year our club decided on going south like we did several years ago with some new found pepper trees that are going to have our Sunday riders in a tunnel for some time while looking for daylight to find their way out. With this being said, we might have to hire the pepper tree specialist team from the Snake River event to come and negotiate the proper way to access this jungle. All in all, we are looking to really change
things up this year as the urgency to start early gets closer. We are putting plans together to give our riders something totally different this year with a bunch more trees and new found sections just begging to be ridden on.
Thanks for listening,
Randy FaulWords: Jim Edleston

What an amazing week!!! June 5-9, FUEL the riding ministry that has been attending our events, came to Florida and put on an excellent Riding Camp on the Daytona Dirt Riders’ property.
Thirty-seven kids from 6-16 participated. They all rode under close supervision of
some of AA riders who gave them tips and special training on riding safe and fast. All the kids benefitted and appreciated the training… and just watching them from Monday through Thursday, you could literally see them improving.
The kids participated in Bible studies in the morning and a praise service every night. The highlight of the week was Thursday night. The speaker presented the good news of Jesus, explaining that He paid the
price for their sins by choosing to die on the cross. Proving he had the power to forgive their (and our) sins, on the third day God raised His Son from the dead. He walked out of the grave in victory over death!
I watched as the kids listened intently. When the speaker asked who wanted to have Jesus as their Savior and Lord 10 kids came forward and accepted Christ.
Betty and I were overwhelmed with joy as we watched these brave you people step out on faith and start their life-walk with Jesus. To top off the awesome evening, 6 kids wanted the world to know they were going to be bold for Jesus. They were baptized and everyone was
clapping, praising Jesus and celebrating the decisions made that night. Betty and I have been praying for this kind of harvest among our FTR family. It was incredible to see those prayers answered!!
FUEL has committed to attending most, if not all of our Hare Scramble events this upcoming season. This ministry is on fire for Jesus. Their outreach to our kids is exciting. Please take the time to check them out. You will be blessed! Blessings on and off the road,

We are getting closer to the start of the 2023-2024 season and I am getting excited to see you all at the races and do some racing myself. I wanted to talk to you all about adopting a prevention mindset when it comes to your performance this season. From a physical therapy standpoint, I think we do things in a one sided manner when it comes to our bodies. We wait for the known problem to get bad enough and then we rehabilitate the problem. I know this is not always the case. Oftentimes in our sport, we crash and are left with resultant injuries that we must rehabilitate. That is not the situation I am referring to.
We need to shift our focus to prevention of injuries and optimizing performance. We are pretty good about this for other disciplines and other areas of our body. Think about it for a moment, you regularly see other health care providers at
least annually even if nothing is wrong. Most of us see our dentist one to two times a year just for cleanings. We see our medical doctor annually for a physical exam and to update our health records. We see our optometrist annually to complete an eye exam and see if we need to update our prescription or start using a visual aid. But for our musculoskeletal system, we usually wait until the problem gets bad enough to make us seek help. Part of the issue comes down to the provider of care. For all the previously mentioned medical providers, they reach out to the patient and remind them when it is time to come in for a regular checkup. We are conditioned to this preventative medicine approach from these service providers. As physical therapists, we are bad at this approach because historically it has not been our focus. We have yet to develop the prevention focused mindset as a profession.
However, I believe the prevention mindset is the best way to decrease health care costs and improve our quality of life. I think this mindset is the future of our PT profession. Periodic and regular check-ins would prevent downstream problems in the future. There are multiple longitudinal studies that are looking or have looked at this phenomenon. Some researchers have already found that physical therapy is the best way to prevent a total knee replacement and to speed recovery post surgery. Remember in the last article when I spoke about getting screened for musculoskeletal impairments that may cause injury or decrease performance. A movement screen and some objective physical tests and measures are a fast and easy way to catch the problem while it is minimal. If you have gone through the normal rehabilitation process. It would be a good idea for your therapist to check up on you periodically to see how your supportive exer-
cise program is meeting your needs. But don't feel as though you have to wait, You can be your best advocate and reach directly out to your physical therapist. I am sure they would love to hear from you and help you modify or discontinue your program. Think of the nagging isssues you ride with. Wouldn’t it be great to get a jump start on those now instead of waiting until the thick of the season where it may affect your ability to get that end of year trophy? Start now, don’t wait. I promise you the return on this initial
investment will pay physical dividends by season end. Before acting on any information in this article, I highly recommend that you consult a physical therapist or physician for a general health and physical activity readiness screening. If you are experiencing pain while riding, it is always beneficial to have a complete evaluation by a physical therapist or physician. If you have any questions or comments, please email me at contact@motopt. com, or call 904-395-5379. Let's IMPROVE YOUR MOVE so you can ride pain-free with MotoPT.
