Small Detour
As we all regroup and strive to get back to our normal routine, sometimes it’s a wake up call on what we take for granted when someone like Milton comes knocking and changes a lot of things. Getting past it and bringing some stability back into our lives can’t get here quick enough as our lives and schedules are disrupted with uncertainty. As we all just want to get back to our weekends of family and friends meeting in a cow pasture and riding our dirt scooters, we realize this is a part of our lives and every effort is being made to get us back on schedule.
Hopefully by the time you read this we have had our events
that had to be rescheduled and we are ready to move into the new year with a full schedule with no interruptions. Having to reschedule an event is the last thing any club wants to do, as it takes a tremendous amount of time and lots of communication to secure another time frame with all the amenities and resources it takes for a successful event and not mentioning all the extra work with replacing arrows, caution tape, stakes and clean up from the winds and rain. CFTR and SADRA were both put in that position back in October and I can tell you first hand the amount of extra work it takes to reschedule.
On another note, if anyone has a lead, knows somebody that
knows somebody that might be willing to listen about FTR and what we do, please contact your local club, area director or an EC member so that contact can be made as every club is interested in a possible new venue for our events. Staying proactive and having an opportunity to start a conversation on possible new properties is the only way for us to continue to have land to hold our events on, pass the word.
Hope that all of our FTR family has recovered and is close to getting back to normal as we move into the new year and get back to the trails and what we love to do.
Thanks for listening Randy Faul
CHAPLAIN’s CORNER
I was talking with a close friend of mine about trusting God, especially when He is sending you in a direction you hadn’t expected. I told him how Betty and I initially started working with FTR and how it has changed our lives. In Isaiah 6:8, it states, “ And then I heard the voice of the Master: “Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?” I spoke up, “I’ll go. Send me!”
In my walk with Jesus, I have found the best response; “the answer is “yes”. Now what is the question?”
It is called a servant’s heart. It grows as we walk closer and closer to Jesus and trust His hand for direction, comfort and courage.
On the evening before his crucifixion, Jesus, 100% man and 100% God, took on the
¡Envíame a mí!"

John 13: 4-10 put it this way, “So he got up from the supper table, set aside his robe, and put on an apron. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the feet of the disciples, drying them with his apron.”
He set an example of selflessness, putting the needs of others first.
Peter, one of Christ’s closest disciples, didn’t get it. “When he got to Simon Peter, Peter said, “Master, you wash my feet?”

8 Peter persisted, “You’re not going to wash my feet— ever!”
Jesus said, “If I don’t wash you, you can’t be part of what I’m doing.”
Finally, the light came on. 9 “Master!” said Peter. “Not only my feet, then. Wash my hands! Wash my head!”
10-12 Jesus said, “If you’ve had a bath in the morning, you only need your feet washed now and you’re clean from head to toe. My concern, you understand, is holiness, not hygiene. So now you’re clean.
The servant spirit, that humble heart of Jesus, shows itself in all of us who have Him as our Savior, Lord and best friend. It can be staying with a rider who has crashed knowing all the while you’ve
9 "¡Maestro!" dijo Pedro. “Entonces no sólo mis pies. ¡Lavame las manos! ¡Lávame la cabeza! 10-12 Jesús dijo: “Si te has bañado por la mañana, ahora sólo necesitas que te laven los pies y estarás limpio de pies a cabeza. Mi preocupación, como comprenderéis, es la santidad, no la higiene. Entonces ahora estás limpio.

He shines the brightest through us when we take care of a friend or family member, no matter what the cost.

THE ADVENTURE RACE BIKE
2024 KTM 890 Rally Edition Build
Summer in Florida is a season of sweltering heat, when most people opt for the cool indoors. But for some, summer calls for adventure—and for a few, it’s a chance to dive into the world of adventure bikes. Austin Lasure, team owner of FCS Racing, answered that call with the new 2024 KTM 890 Rally Edition, and the results are nothing short of spectacular.
It all began in early summer 2024 when Jason Ennis, owner of Central Florida Powersports in Kissimmee, reached out to Austin with exciting news. Jason had something special waiting for him on the showroom floor—a 2024 KTM 890 Rally Edition adventure bike. Known for creating specialty models inspired by the iconic Dakar Rally, KTM has produced limited-edition bikes like the Six Days, the Erzberg Rodeo, and the Rally Edition, each a testament to off-road excellence. The Rally Edition, built on the 890 platform and limited to just 700 units worldwide in 2024, pays homage to the incredible endurance and versatility of rally racing. With only around 100 bikes in the U.S., Austin knew this was an opportunity he couldn’t pass up.
The first ride was a return to his old training grounds—single tracks winding through Florida’s sand, whoops, and tight, twisty trails. The 890 Rally Edition was put to the test on terrain that challenged its agility and power. Austin was most excited to try out the WP Pro Xplor 7548 Fork with cone valve technology and the WP Explore PDS shock with an impressive 270mm of travel. With his experience riding the KTM 1090 Adventure R, he had high expectations but found himself blown away. The 890 Rally Edition was incredibly balanced, handling every challenge with ease.
WORDS: KURT LUCAS
Austin’s vision for this bike didn’t stop at the stock configuration. After a few rides, he contacted Rottweiler Performance, known for top-notch modifications in the adventure bike community, and reached out to his long-time race mechanic Kyle Turnis of Moto 4Play. Kyle’s expertise in racing mechanics, spanning events from the Baja Rally to national championships like GNCC and FTR, meant that this bike would be built to perfection.
Here’s a look at the custom modifications made to Austin’s 2024 KTM 890 Rally Edition:
- DID Wheel Set
- Oversized Foot Pegs
- Akrapovic Exhaust
- Titanium Bolt Kits Throughout
- AXP Racing Skid Plate
- Rottweiler Billet Triple Clamps
- Rottweiler Air Intake and Custom Tune Computer
- Rade Garage Carbon Fiber Fairing Kit
- SCOTTS Steering Dampener
-
Trail Tech Navigation, Tachometer, and CPU
- ASV Levers
- Acerbis Handguards
- Seat Concepts Custom Seat
Each part was handpicked with a purpose: to emulate the spirit of Dakar within the limits of a near-stock, adventure-ready build. While it may not be a factory-built Dakar bike, Austin's 890 Rally Edition comes remarkably close, delivering joy every ride at Ocala National Forest, Richloem,
and even in the competitive atmosphere of Florida Trail Riders’ harescramble races.
A special thanks goes to Moto 4Play for bringing Austin’s vision to life. Kyle’s expertise ensured this bike was ready to tackle the Florida terrain, embodying the spirit of Dakar and adventure racing at every turn. So, next time you’re at the races, keep an eye out—you might just catch this beast sweeping the track!

Understanding Low Back Pain and Neural Tension
ow back pain is a common complaint among dirt bike and ATV racers due to the high-impact landings, rapid accelerations, and frequent jolts that can strain the lumbar spine. However, not all low back pain stems from the same source. One important distinction needs to be made: Is this true low back pain or abnormal neural tension? Understanding the difference between these two can help you manage your symptoms better and make informed decisions about treatment.
True Low Back Pain
True low back pain typically involves muscles, ligaments, or discs in the lumbar spine. This type of pain is often due to direct trauma, muscle strain, or poor posture during riding. You may feel stiffness, dull aching, or sharp pain that worsens with certain movements. The pain generally stays localized in the lower back, although it can occasionally radiate to nearby areas like the hips. With true low back pain, localized treatments such as stretches, manipulations, and core-strengthening exercises are usually beneficial depending on what the patient needs. These exercises can help relieve pressure from the strained tissues.
Neural Tension
Neural tension, on the other hand, occurs when the nerves running from the lower spine to the legs
become compressed, irritated, or unable to move correctly. When neural tension is involved, the pain or discomfort often follows a specific nerve pathway and may radiate down into the legs, often with a burning, tingling, or electric-shock-like sensation. Conditions like sciatica or nerve impingement cause neural tension, which may worsen with prolonged sitting, bending, or stretching.
Quick Tests for Differentiating Low Back Pain and Neural Tension
You can perform two quick tests at home to get an idea of whether your low back pain might be related to neural tension or if it’s more likely a structural issue.
1. Straight Leg Raise (SLR) Test
- Lie on your back with your legs straight. Slowly lift one leg, keeping your knee straight. If you feel pain shooting down the leg when it’s elevated between 30-70 degrees, this could suggest neural tension, potentially involving the sciatic nerve.
- Findings for True Low Back Pain: Pain may not extend down the leg and might be more localized in the lower back. It does not change with ankle position.
- Findings for Neural Tension: Pain radiates along the nerve path, often down the leg, indicating
potential sciatic nerve involvement. If you flex your ankle down, such as pushing on the gas pedal, and this lessens your symptoms, this is a neural tension sign. This test is more significant if the SLR on the opposite leg causes symptoms.
Slump Test
- Sit on a bench or chair with your knees bent at 90 degrees. Slouch forward, rounding your back while keeping your head up. Then, extend one knee to straighten the leg, and finally, bring your chin to your chest.
- Findings for True Low Back Pain: You may feel some lower back discomfort, but symptoms will usually stay in the lumbar area. Bringing your chin to your chest does not affect your symptoms.
- Findings for Neural Tension: Pain radiates down the leg, bringing your chin to your chest or lifting your ankle up increases your symptoms.
These tests aren’t definitive but can give clues about the source of your pain. If you experience radiating pain during these tests, it may indicate neural tension, which would require different treatment approaches than true low back pain.
Next Steps
For racers, taking care of your back and nerves is crucial to stay competitive and prevent long-term injuries. Start with stretching and strengthening exercises, focusing on the core and hip muscles to relieve pressure on the lumbar spine. However, if
you suspect neural tension, it’s essential to seek professional guidance from a physical therapist who can help mobilize the nerve.
In summary, by understanding the source of your low back pain and knowing when it may be neural tension, you can better address and manage your symptoms, ensuring a healthier and more enjoyable riding experience.
Before acting on any information in this article, I recommend you consult a physical therapist or physician for a general health and physical activity readiness screening. If you are experiencing pain while riding, it is always beneficial to have a complete evaluation by a physical therapist or physician. If you have any questions or comments, please email me at contact@motopt.com or call/text 904-395-5379. Let's IMPROVE YOUR MOVE so you can ride pain-free with MotoPT.

The Importance of Vapor Honing for Your machine
Vapor honing, also known as wet blasting, is a crucial process fo ATV's metal components. By using a fine slurry of water and ab cleans and polishes parts without causing surface damage. This method not only removes dirt, grime, and corrosion from engine parts, suspension components, and casings, but also seals the metal for better longevity and a smoother finish. The result is improved part performance, reduced wear, and a like-new appearance—all of which contribute to a cleaner, more efficient machine that performs better on the track or trail.
In addition to its cleaning benefits, vapor honing can also enhance the overall durability of you ATV. The process creates a smooth, satin-like finish that reduces surface imperfections where grime typically accumulate, making future maintenance easier. It can also help to reduce fr certain moving parts, leading to improved performance and longer component life. Whethe prepping for race day or doing a full restoration, vapor honing is an excellent way to keep your running at peak performance and looking its best.

Just finished the weekend at Bartow for the Peace River Harescramble. I’m sure you were excited to be back at the races. One of the exciting things this weekend was the new Electric class. It’s a new class this year pioneered by Mark Peroni. We weren’t sure how well attendance would be in the class since finishing the race is a real challenge for many of the electric brands. However, this weekend there were 24 riders on the line. I don’t think anyone expected to see the class grow this quickly.
One of the major challenges racing the electric bike is that the bike is completely silent. The main problem is that other riders can’t hear you coming. The first round, the electric class started on row 8 and it was complete chaos coming through the pack on lap one riding a silent machine. Riders in Vintage, Junior C, and Evo were getting passed before they even knew people were behind them. I know they were startled, I could hear it!
When entering retirement, often you can plan for the things that are seen. However, it’s the unseen that can really surprise you in retirement. We help our clients identify the unseen in their retirement plan. That could be tax implications, social security issues, or simply taking too much risk. If you are interested in seeing if you are missing anything, we would love the opportunity to meet with you.
