WORDS: RANDY FAUL

The season has finally started with a couple out of state enduros and our first HS. As I write this, our Croom enduro is just around the corner and promises to be another epic event. After just getting back from a 13-hour drive from a dual sport event in Kentucky on Monday night, unload, clean everything, load back up and leave on that Friday for the first HS event, I wondered if I hit my head too many times. Needless to say, we arrived and after getting set up it was time to relax. With the threat of weather and the travel distance for a lot of us, I was hoping that it didn’t dampen the attendance and that the club would have a great weekend. As the parking areas started to fill up, it felt like we were all back to normal and we didn’t miss a beat over the summer down time.

As FTR continues to grow, we continually upgrade and improve on our programs to benefit our members and make the weekend of racing our dirt scooters a pleasant and safe experience. As most of you noticed and commented on our new scoring trailer, FTR is very proud of the results, ease of setting up and being 100% functional in every aspect. With Tim Nordle’s input we

now have both sign-up and scoring facilities that are second to none and will make our series stand out even more as a top tier organization.

As the weekend started to get busy, there were a few that had to be reminded of our rules like being the age of 16 to ride a one wheel and a couple pit riding infractions, (speed/ wheelies) All in all for being the first round back, things were in check. The BSTR club provided one of the most challenging courses we have seen in many years and I might add that it brought back memories of how HS courses used to be back in the day. The northern part of Florida seems to offer a different type of terrain than what we have down here in the south portion of the state. All in all, the club had three courses that presented many challenges for all of us and was one to remember. Great job Big Scrub in hosting the first round of our series and bringing our family back together.

One final note, FTR is hoping that our numbers and backgrounds will correspond to our rule book a little better so that going out to practice will be a brief check and no delays will incur. Whether you agree with the rule or not, or think that it

doesn’t matter as we get scored by transponder, that’s not the point. Think about this as we delt with this issue at the first race. Mailbox numbers, small black numbers/white background stuck on a red, orange, green or blue number plate, what class is he in? But here’s the real concern, if said rider is unconscious on the trail, there is no way at the moment that our medical staff can identify the rider to call and let family/ friends know where or how their rider is. Besides the safety aspect, everyone else seems to have their numbers correct and play by the rules. For some, it also allows them to know who’s in their class by just a glance of the plates. Lets work together to do our part in making our volunteers job easier without friction and controversy as we continue to have a place to race.

Thanks for listening

CHAPLAIN’s CORNER

Starting Line to Checkered Flag… “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7

Isaiah 55:8-9 “I don’t think the way you think. The way you work isn’t the way I work.” God’s Decree. For as the sky soars high above earth, so the way I work surpasses the way you work, and the way I think is beyond the way you think.

Last month, a couple who are some of our closest friends, let us know their nephew was hospitalized for a brain aneurysm. After three days, his wife and family made the hardest decision of their lives; taking their husband, son and brother off of life support.

He was 42 years old, a music minister in the local Baptist church and loved by his friends, family, and congregation.

As a member of the FTR family,

"He peleado la buena batalla, he terminado la carrera, he mantenido la fe". 2 Timoteo 4:7

Betty and I have seen tragedies, shared the pain and cried with the families and friends. When these tragedies occur, we ask God “why?”

It is natural to ask God why. Jesus asked why when He was on the cross, dying for our sins. We just need to know that God does not often answer our question of why. We will probably never know the answer to our whys this side of heaven but we can know these truths:

God is good.

God is love.

God is perfect. God is in control.

God never makes a mistake. God cares for us.

God allows things to happen in life that don’t make sense to us… but they do make sense to Him. His understanding compared to our understanding is like the ocean compared to a tea cup. When we ask God our why questions, His response is typically something like,

“My child, you would not understand even if I explained it to you. (Our teacup minds cannot contain the size of the ocean.) So just trust Me.”

In the midst of the heartbreak, we need to trust God and pray that He would use the tragedy to somehow further His Kingdom. May He use these tragedies to create opportunities for believers to have Jesus conversations with those who don’t know Him. We need to pray for the families, the friends and all those hurting.

Finally, we need to remember that this sin-filled world is not our home. We are citizens of heaven and need to hold all things loosely while we are here. Nothing really belongs to us, not our friends, not even are children. Everything belongs to God — “Behold, all souls are Mine” (Ezekiel 18:4). We are simply the managers of His stuff. May we manage well, trusting Him.

Todo pertenece a Dios: “He aquí,

Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our condition, and keeps us present before Him. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good. (Romans 8:28).

Blessings on and off the road, Jim and Betty Edleston Chaplain FTR

Si no sabemos cómo o qué orar, no importa. (Romanos 8:28).

Bendiciones desde la carretera y el monte,

Jim and Betty Edleston Chaplain FTR

Moises Pita is an impressive little ripper. The young rider conquered both the Little Brown Jug and Orange State Enduro aboard his GasGas MC65. These are considered two of the toughest enduros in our series with the steep uphills and rocky descents at LBJ and the monstrous sand whoops at Croom. Kudos to you Moises.

PEACE and LOVE: A Doctor of Physical Therapy’s Guide to Soft Tissue Recovery for FTR Racers

Hello FTR Family,

This month I wanted to cover one of the most frequently asked questions. As a dirt bike or quad racer, pushing your body to the limit is part of the thrill. But with that comes the risk of soft tissue injuries—sprains, strains, and bruises that can sideline even the toughest athletes. Understanding how to treat these injuries with the latest evidence-based practices can accelerate recovery and get you back on the track faster. That's where the acronyms PEACE and LOVE come in (Dubois & Esculier, 2020).

Let’s break it down:

PEACE (for the first few days after injury)

This acronym outlines the best practices for the initial soft tissue injury management phase.

P: Protect

Avoid movements or activities that could worsen the injury. This may involve temporarily offloading the area (e.g., using crutches or avoiding racing).

E: Elevate

Elevate the injured limb above heart level to reduce swelling. For racers, keeping your leg elevated can be tough, but it’s essential for speeding up the healing process.

A: Avoid anti-inflammatories

Contrary to old advice, avoid non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) like ibuprofen

in the acute phase. Inflammation is part of the body's healing process, and reducing it can slow recovery.

C: Compress

Use compression (such as an elastic bandage) to limit swelling and provide support. This is especially helpful after the initial injury to reduce fluid buildup (Thomas, 2022).

E: Educate

Understand that the body is resilient. In most cases, rest and gradual activity will promote healing without over-reliance on medications or passive treatments. You don't need aggressive interventions right away.

LOVE (for the recovery phase)

Once the initial inflammation subsides, it's time to focus on long-term recovery with the LOVE approach.

L: Load

Slowly reintroduce loading and activity to the injured tissue. For racers, this might mean gentle strength training, range-of-motion exercises, or light biking. Controlled movement helps the tissue regain strength and flexibility.

O: Optimism

Maintain a positive mindset throughout recovery. Mental resilience significantly affects how quickly you can return to racing.

V: Vascularization

Increase blood flow through

pain-free cardiovascular exercise, like stationary biking or swimming. This promotes tissue healing and overall fitness while avoiding further injury to the affected area.

E: Exercise

Rehabilitation exercises specific to the injury are crucial. As a dirt bike or quad racer, regaining balance, strength, and agility through targeted exercises will ensure you return stronger. A PT is the best person to prescribe these exercises.

Why It Matters for Racers

Racing puts unique demands on your body. Crashes, hard landings, and overuse are all common sources of soft tissue injuries. Applying the PEACE and LOVE principles will help prevent longterm issues and keep you in top form for future races. By taking a proactive approach to injury recovery, you can get back to doing what you love—pushing your limits on the track—with confidence.

If you're ever unsure, consult with me, I can personalize these strategies to fit your specific needs and goals. Before acting on any information in this article, I recommend you consult a physical therapist or physician for a general health and physical activity readiness screening. If you are experiencing pain while riding, it is always beneficial to have a complete evaluation by a physical therapist or physician. If you have any questions or

comments, please email me at contact@motopt.com or call/text 904-395-5379. Let's IMPROVE YOUR MOVE so you can ride pain-free with MotoPT.

The Importance of Chain Tension on a Dirt Bike

When it comes to maintaining and setting up your bike, many suspension. However, one of the most crucial yet often overlook tension. Proper chain tension plays a key role in performance, safety, and the longevity of both the b and its components. Let’s explore why chain tension matters and how to keep it properly adjus

A loose chain can cause sluggish acceleration, inconsistent power delivery, and even slipp other hand, an overly tight chain creates excessive friction, reducing power and making the to control. Incorrect tension doesn’t just affect the chain; it impacts the sprockets and components. A loose chain can lead to premature sprocket wear, while a tight chain can put u strain on the engine and transmission. Maintaining the correct tension also results in a smoo a properly adjusted chain absorbs bumps and provides better traction and handling. Enginee design the ideal chain tension not just for durability but because it significantly affects ho handles.

Before each ride, always check your chain tension. Some riders prefer t he old-school measuring with three fingers behind the chain slider, while others opt for a modern measure from companies like Works Connection. The best approach is to consult your bike's owner’s the manufacturer's recommended specifications and adjust the tension accordingly. An FTR/SETRA/AMA cosanction indicates that this event is listed in the organization’s official calendar. The officials for this event have not b een trained or accredited by the FTR, SETRA or the AMA. Motor sports are dangerous. You should take part in this event on your own assessment of your or your child’s abilities. The event will traverse public land and roads. The promoter is not responsible for their conditions or the actions of other individuals using these premises. You are responsible for the condition of your or your child’s motorcycle and protective apparel. We urge you not to compete in motor sports without adequate personal medical coverage as t he promoter does not provide medical insurance coverage. The River City Dirt Riders, FTR, SETRA, AMA and the Division of Forestry are not experts in laying out and sponsoring an Enduro and I know the risk and danger to myself, so I voluntarily and in reliance upon my own judgment and ability, assume all risk for loss, damage or injury (including death) to myself and my property for any cause whatsoever. The course is dangerous. Not all obstacles may be marked, so ride carefully.
