PREZ SEZ Words: Randy Faul

In the Books As I sit here at our Bartow property dotting all the eyes and crossing the tees before our event, and yes it is Thursday Oct 12 and a couple of us retired folks have nothing better to do than to come work out in the woods for four days, but I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. After just attending the opening round at the CFTR event, I watched this club respond to the wrench that was thrown at them on Saturday evening with 3-4 hours of constant rain. Knowing this property and some of the trails they

have I knew there would be some changes forthcoming. Those that know, know what is involved in organizing the troops first thing Sunday morning for reroutes, but these guys rallied late at night and early in the A.M. before any of us even thought about waking up. With only a small delay in practice, the event went on with no interruptions as it changed the whole dynamics as some of us forgot how to ride mud and slippery conditions. Kudos to Jacob and Brian for a job well done! As you read this the SADRA event will be in the books and

FLORIDA TRAIL RIDERS

the Sunrunners event may be completed also as both our clubs have been working together to pull off two events a week apart on the same piece of property with only the start being jointly used. Looks like the wind and rain have stopped so it’s time to start setting posts and stakes as this retirement thing isn’t really a retirement but I would rather be out here doing this than anything else except go riding with my friends. See you in the woods Randy Faul

thanks and remind ourselves what the holidays are truly all about.

Starting Line to Checkered Flag… “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7 The holiday season is upon us (although the big box retailers had their Christmas merchandise out on Labor Day!). We all look forward to the gathering of family and friends, reminiscing over holidays past, and of course, eating large amounts of food we would normally not eat at all! Throughout the season, we need to take the time to give

In Psalm 100, King David wrote, “On your feet now-applaud God! Bring a gift of laughter, sing yourselves into his presence. Know this; God is God(our) God. He made us, we didn’t make Him. We’re his people, his well-tended sheep. Enter with the password: “Thank you!” Make yourselves at home, talking praise. Thank Him, Worship Him. For God is sheer beauty, all-generous in love, loyal always and ever. A couple of things to give thanks for… God is not a statue or an ornament made by man. God loves us so much, He made us “in his image”. # 2. We are His people, compared us to well-tended sheep: closely watched-over, with

blessings to meet all our needs. #3. He is generous in His love for us and is “loyal always and ever”. That generous love for us is seen in the sending of His one and only Son who voluntarily paid the price of death for all of us and all of our sins forever! This season, thank God for His perfect plan of salvation through His Son, Jesus. If you do not have that personal relationship with Jesus, please consider and seek it. I guarantee, it will be the holiday gift you will EVER RECEIVE!!! “Put your entire trust in the Master Jesus. Then you’ll live as you were meant to live”. Acts 16:31. Blessings on and off the road, Jim and Betty Edleston CMA

The Transformational Impact of Holding Stretches for 2 Minutes: Unveiling the Magic Hello FTR Family, In the world of physical therapy and overall fitness, stretching is often emphasized for its role in enhancing flexibility and preventing injuries. However, there's a crucial aspect of stretching that's frequently overlooked: the duration. Most people will tell you to hold a stretch for 30 seconds, but this short of a duration is likely not enough to overcome the normal barriers our bodies have to stretching. Our muscles need to be held in a lengthened position long enough for our body to realize we have inadequate length and need to add functional units (called sarcomeres) to our muscles. There is a reason post op amputee patients are told to stretch for 15-30 minutes to prevent adaptive shortening and joint contractures. This month we are delving into the transformative effects of holding your stretches for a minimum of two minutes and why this simple change can make a remarkable difference in your physical well-being. 1. Deeper Muscle Release: Holding a stretch for an extended period allows your muscles to relax and

elongate further. Often, in the first few seconds of a stretch, your body is merely adjusting. By maintaining the position for two minutes, the muscle fibers gradually release, allowing for a deeper and more effective stretch. 2. Improved Flexibility: Prolonging the duration of a stretch encourages the muscles and tendons to adapt and become more flexible. The longer you hold a stretch, the more the muscle fibers elongate, enhancing your overall flexibility. This increased flexibility is invaluable, especially for physical therapy patients recovering from injuries.

adaptation is fundamental in the rehabilitation process, particularly for individuals recovering from injuries or those aiming to improve their physical performance. 5. Connective Tissue Health: Two-minute stretches impact not only the muscles but also the connective tissues such as tendons and ligaments. The sustained stretch contributes to the health and resilience of these tissues, reducing the risk of injury and supporting overall musculoskeletal health.

6. Relaxation and Stress Reduction: Holding a stretch for an extended period can induce a sense 3. Increased Blood Circulation: of relaxation. Incorporating longer stretches into your routine might seem daunting initially, but the benefits far outweigh the additional time investment. Gradually building up to holding stretches for two minutes and incorporating them into your daily physical therapy regimen can be transformative for your overall well-being. Remember, it's crucial to maintain proper form and not push your body beyond its limits while holding a stretch. Always listen to your body and consult with your physical therapist or a healthcare professional to ensure you're performing stretches safely and effectively. In conclusion, the simple act of prolonging your stretches to a

minimum of two minutes can unlock a myriad of benefits. From enhanced flexibility and improved blood circulation to reduced stress and better long-term musculoskeletal health, this small adjustment in your stretching routine can yield remarkable results. It's time to embrace the magic of the two-minute stretch and witness the incredible transformation in your physical therapy journey. LBJ ENDURO MINI VACATION Words; Kurt Lucas

Have you ever looked at the FTR event schedule and noticed some out-ofstate races and thought to yourself “That could be fun but just way too long of a drive to race and come home.” Well, I used to be right there with you. The first time I ever raced the Little Brown Jug Enduro I drove up with my dad on Friday afternoon, getting to the hotel near Union, South Carolina at midnight after about 10 hours in the car. Just to wake up at six and head to the race property. The race was a blast, it always is, but that feeling of packing up and looking forward to another 10+ hour drive can kill the vibe quick. On the ride home I was questioning my life choices. The next year I couldn’t race due to an injury, but me and a bunch of my buddies were headed up and had plans to drive to Asheville, North Carolina afterwards to hangout, hike and mountain bike so I made the trip anyway.

Established 1971

I quickly learned that this was the right way to do it. After the race on Saturday, we headed to the Airbnb where we benched race, the next day we went and checked out Asheville and the surrounding towns before ending the trip with some awesome mountain biking and hiking. After this trip I realized that these out-ofstate races are the perfect excuse to have a little mini vacation. The following year we tied my good friend Clark Myers’ bachelor party into the trip. We mountain biked in Georgia the day before the race, went to dinner in Greenville, South Carolina the night before the enduro, we raced the enduro, then drove to Brevard, North Carolina to ride some incredible mountain bike trails.

going to be just me and my girlfriend Kaitlyn, so I knew the mountain bike plans weren’t going to happen, so instead we decided to stop at some awesome places along the way to break up the drive. We left early Friday morning and made the trip to one of our favorite cities, Savannah, Georgia. We walked around the riverfront before stopping at the Double Wide Diner for breakfast, after that we grabbed a coffee and headed to the next stop on our journey, Isle of Palms, South Carolina.

Falls Park on the Reedy in Downtown Greenville, South Carolina

The Charleston area is just a short two-hour drive from Savannah, which was extremely convenient. We stopped at Red’s Ice House in Mount Pleasant to enjoy a quick

Fast forward to 2023 and it was time again to start planning our Little Brown Jug/Labor Day Weekend vacation. This year it was

lunch, this place is a must visit as it is right on the water. After lunch we hopped in the truck and headed to our hotel on Isle of Palms. We decided to visit this area because one of my favorite bands, 49 Winchester, was playing at Windjammer Bar right on the beach. Isle of Palms is a great beach town right outside of Charleston with a bunch of cool coffee shops, bars and restaurants, I highly recommend it! Our hotel was right next to the venue, so we headed next door to watch 49 Winchester absolutely crush it, we had such a fun night, and it was the perfect way

to kick off our trip. The next day we headed up to the Upstate of South Carolina. We decided to book a hotel in Greenville because the city is filled with all kinds of restaurants and things to do, and it was only about an hour from the race property in Union. Greenville is incredible, it is an awesome city with people out and about enjoying themselves. We grabbed some dinner and watched a little college football before exploring the rest of the city. We went to Falls Park on the Reedy and checked

out the waterfall right in middle of downtown, explored the Grand Bohemian Lodge and grabbed some fancy popcorn from one of the many shops before heading back to the hotel. The next morning was an early one as it was finally race day. I had a blast on the course as this is always one of my favorites. Little Brown Jug has so many road crossings which allowed Kaitlyn to meet me at one of the checks and bring me some water and food. It was very cool to get her involved in my race and I was sure to tell her how

much faster that little boost made me. After the race we packed up and made the trek all the way back to Florida where we stayed at a friend’s house in Jacksonville. The next day we made the rest of the drive and were back in St. Petersburg by noon. It was an amazing little trip and we are already thinking of ideas for next year. If you are on the fence about racing one of these out-of-state races then consider getting up a day or two early, or staying late, and making some memories out of it. You will not be disappointed!
