The HIRED! Apprenticeship Program provides 15-18 year-old youth with meaningful, professionally managed career-exploration opportunities in Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) operations. The program is open to dependents of active duty, DoD Civilian, and retired military personnel. • Candidates must be 15–18 years of age • Must be registered with Child, Youth & School Services (CYS Services) • Must have and maintain a GPA of 2.0 or better • Chosen participants are required to work 15 hours/week for 12 weeks • Additional options and requirements may be offered during the Summer Term • Apprentices may complete up to 2 terms/year for 3 consecutive years For more information, call the MWR Partnership Specialist at 361-9897.

The event is designed to foster relationships between adults and children. Assist children to develop a positive self-image, and a sense of belonging, usefulness and purposes. Parents are required to accompany their children.

SAC will recognize the contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans to the Unites States and celebrate the group’s heritage and culture. Displays will be showcased throughout the facility.

Baby Signs: Sign, Sing, and Play Classes

Thursdays, 0900-0930 at LFCAC Hands on Parent and Child classes that are designed to improve communication with young children. Families will learn signs through song and play–keeping it fun for everyone! This basic signing series of 12 classes will be offered on a rotating basis and is appropriate for families with children 9 months to 5 years of age. No cost to attend. Parent kits available for purchase.

Bouncy Hut Night

9/12, 9/24 1700-1930 Ages 4-12, no cost. Two bouncy huts are now available at the LFCAC so now both smaller and bigger children can have their own hut. Parents must be present to supervise their children as child care personnel will not be on hand.

Family Movie Night

9/18, 1730-1930 (dependent on length) Join the LFCAC for a fun night of Family entertainment on a 16’ x 20’ screen. All movies rated G or PG and appropriate for ages 3-10. 9/14, 1300-1500 Come join the LFCAC for our first annual Salsa Making Competition This year’s theme will be “Make it Hot”. We will have 4 categories, All Around Best, Best Spicy, Most Unique, and The People’s Choice. Category winners will receive recognition. Those that wish to enter a Salsa into the competition need to fill out a registration form and drop it by the LFCAC to receive Salsa Making Competition Rules. Even if you don’t wish to enter a Salsa we encourage you to come and enjoy the festivities!

Chena Hot Spring Hike & Soak

9/14, 0900-1700 Fee: $20 We will start out with a leisurely hike, take a break for lunch and then enjoy a relaxing soak in the hot spring. Kids are welcome to attend just know that only adults 18 and over can go in the outdoor rock pool.

Stiles Creek ATV Run 9/14, 0800 Fee: $75 Transportation, ATV, goggles and Helmet will be provided. Bring your lunch, snacks, drinks, gloves and daypack with bungee cord to strap to ATV. Gloves and over the ankle boots are required. An ATV Safety Course is required prior to the departure date!

Rock Climbing

9/15, 0900-1700 Fee: $15 Come on a day trip to one of the nearby climbing [10]

sites to try your hand on some real rock! Outdoor recreation provides all climbing equipment including helmets, harnesses, shoes, ropes, belay devices, and carabiners. Be sure to pack your own lunch, snacks, and drinks and be prepared for a fun day on the rocks! No previous experience necessary.

Clearwater Silvers

9/20-23, 1000 departure on the 20th. Fee: $75 Adult, $50 Youth (15 and under). AGES: 7+ w/Adult An Alaska State Fishing License is required! The Clearwater River outside of Delta Junction is one of the clearest streams in the interior. By the middle of September the Coho runs come in strong and will continue into late October. The exact time of the run is not predictable, but generally occurs in mid to late September. Meet our boats at the Clearwater Boat Launch. Clearwater Lodge is available nearby. Food and lodging at the customer’s expense.

Alaska Range Hike

9/21, 0700-1900 Fee: $15 Journey to the magnificent Alaska Range with ODR this summer! This day hike will take us into the high country in the mountains where we will see glaciers, soaring mountains and amazing vistas. Don’t forget the camera on this trip, as wildlife abounds in this area too! Pack some water, snacks, lunch and an extra pair of shoes (old sneakers are great!) to cross the river in. This trip will be one to remember!

Gulkana Glacier Hike 9/22, 0700-1900 Fee: $15 Spend a day with us as we head to the Alaska Range and hike to the fantastic

Gulkana Glacier. Nothing makes an Alaskan adventure complete like standing on these giant rivers of ice surrounded by jagged mountain peaks. Bring a lunch, snacks, and something to drink. This trip is sure to be an amazing experience. Oh and don’t forget to bring a camera, you are guaranteed to get some great pictures!

Table Top Mountain Hike 9/28, 0800-1800 Fee: $15 Get out of town for the day to enjoy a beautiful hike on Table Top Mountain. Don’t forget to bring your lunch, water and of course your camera!!!

This will be an easy trail that both kids and parents can enjoy. Bring a lunch, water, and a sense of adventure.

PRESCHOOL CHILD FIND DEVELOPMENTAL SCREENINGS For children ages 3-5

Preschool Child Find is a FREE program offered by the FNSB school district. An evaluator will work with your child ages 3-5 to identify their individual needs prior to entering school. A comprehensive developmental screening will be conducted to determine what resources are needed and available for your child to have a fun and successful school experience. If you feel your child could benefit from a screening please call 452-2000 ext 445 or the Fort Wainwright EFMP program at 353-4243 or 353-4460.
