Sports & Fitness KEEP ACTIVE AND HEALTHY #WainwrightFitness Two-Hour Fitness Classes offer twice the fun, and twice the burn! Saturdays, January 7, February 11, and March 11, 10 a.m. – Noon Each month the Physical Fitness Center hosts a 2-hour fitness class with a special twist. Dance to the beat during January’s Dance Party 2-hour fitness class, power up Heartbreak Hill in February, and celebrate shamrocks during the St. Patty’s Day spin class in March.

Walk Off the Wait Every Tuesday and Thursday, beginning January 10, 11 a.m. – Noon Join other Family Members to walk the distance of separations while you wait for your loved one to return from deployment. Meet new friends and build a support network during this free event at the PFC, organized by Army Community Services.

Shamrock Strongman Throwdown Saturday, March 18, 11:30 a.m. Strength kicks in when luck runs out. Test your strength at the annual Saint Patty’s Day Shamrock Strongman Throwdown. Different divisions will compete in multiple events throughout the day. Don’t miss out on the participant meeting on March 8 at the Melaven Fitness Center.

Challenge yourself, challenge each other Let’s make a commitment; a commitment that together we will stay active and healthy this year. Join the Physical Fitness Center for Fitness Challenges and receive planned workouts, bi-monthly weigh-ins and body fat measurements, as well as a support group for success! Prizes will be awarded at the end of each challenge. New challenges are always happening. Check our website for more information about upcoming fitness challenges.

SWEAT IT OUT Physical Fitness Center Take your workout to the next level at the PFC. With fitness coordinators, and group classes (including yoga, cycling, Zumba, and more), the PFC has everything you need to create the best all-around workout.

Melaven Fitness Center When you think of Melaven, think of maximizing your workout with functional fitness equipment, and the Reshaping in Progress Program (R.I.P.P.) group class. Please note that the pool is under renovation and is scheduled to reopen Summer 2017.

Every 4th Wednesday of the month, 10 – 11 a.m. Creating healthy lifestyle habits is especially important for children. Each month, Army Community Services hosts Health Nut, seminars geared towards teaching you and your child how to choose the right foods. From meal preparation, to food safety, to eating well on a budget, this one-hour course is an excellent resource for you and your family.

Heart Healthy Menu: Prescription for a Healthy Heart Thursday, February 9, 6 – 8 p.m. Create delectable plates from home! Hear the latest recommendations for a heart healthy food plan and lifestyle. This program includes cooking demonstrations and suggestions for a menu you can make at home.

New Parent Support Programs #WainwrightACS Calling all new parents! The New Parent Support Program offers a variety of classes that introduce parents to techniques and programs tailored to their specific needs. March: Women’s History Month— a time where women across the United States are celebrated for their contributions to society. March is also Irish-American Heritage Month. Moosercise Child Exercise and Play Program

Let us watch the kids; you deserve a break

Exercise is a-moose-ing! Don’t miss out on this fun program for your child (ages 18 months – 5 years old), where parents and children meet twice a week for physical fitness in a fun and safe environment.

Are you needing some time for yourself? How about a date night? Let the staff at the School Age Center and Child Development Center help you out with an afternoon or evening of child care for just $20 per child. Let us lend a hand on January 21 and February 25 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.,as well we March 24 from 6:30 – 10:30 p.m.

Fat Tire Biking Float on top of the snow this winter on a fat tire bike. These special bikes have extra wide tires that help you glide along the snow’s surface. Sound fun? The season runs March 3 – April 21, and is available for youth ages 9 to 18. Register January 9 – 20 at Parent Central Services.

Archery Master the ancient sport of archery this spring. The season runs April 24 – May 26, and is available for youth ages 8 to 16. Register between February 27 and March 10 at Parent Central Services.

Teen Babysitters Course March 13 – 16, Noon – 6 p.m. Join us for a babysitting certification class and become a certified babysitter. Learn what it takes to care for a child, respond to basic emergency situations, and babysitting etiquette. This course includes CPR and First Aid certification. For youth 13 years and older. Register with Parent Central Services or the Youth Center.

The Mobilization and Deployment Readiness Program provides active duty, reserve units, and guard units with pre and post deployment and mobilization briefings, Family Readiness Group (FRG) assistance and training, information and referral services, resource materials, and Operation R.E.A.D.Y. (Resources for Education About Deployment and You) training. Training is being offered for Comprehensive FRG Training, Key Caller, Treasurer Training, and Volunteer Management Information System Usage for FRGs. Registration is required.
