El Ayuntamiento de Puerto del Rosario presentó la culminación de las obras que se venían acometiendo en el Estadio de Los Pozos. Reposición del Césped homologado a las altas categorías, finalización y adaptación del Graderío norte y sur, el soterramiento de todas las canalizaciones de redes, etc., son algunas de las acciones de mayor entidad que se han ejecutado. Esta presentación oficial contó con la presencia del alcalde de Puerto del Rosario, Marcial Morales, la concejala de Deportes municipal, Beatriz Fajardo, distintos representantes del Cabildo de Fuerteventura y una nutrida representación de los clubes de fútbol capitalinos. Asimismo una delegación de la UD Fuerteventura, con algunos miembros de su nueva directiva, cuerpo técnico y jugadores, asistieron a este acto de presentación de las mejoras del Estadio Municipal de Los Pozos, que verá su puesta de largo el próximo domingo con la celebración del derbi majorero correspondiente a la Segunda División B del fútbol nacional, entre los equipos de UD Fuerteventura y UD Playas de Jandía, por lo que se aprovechará también dicho acto para hacer un llamamiento a la afición para que acuda este domingo a este renovado Estadio de Los Pozos.

Auch eine Delegation der UD Fuerteventura mit einigen Mitgliedern ihrer neuen Leitung, Technikern und Spielern nahmen an dem Akt teil, in dem die Verbesserungen des öffentlichen Stadions von Los Pozos präsentiert wurden, das am nächste Sonntag mit der Veranstaltung des Derbys von Fuerteventura eingeweiht wird, welches der zweiten Division des nationalen Fußballs entspricht. Unter den Mannschaften befinden sich der UD Fuerteventura und der UD Playas de Jandía, weshalb dieser Anlass auch genutzt wird, um die Fans aufzufordern, am Sonntag in das restaurierte Stadion von Los Pozos zu kommen.

Acuerdo ‘histórico’ entre Tuineje y Pájara FMHOY - Fuerteventura Los ayuntamientos de Tuineje y Pájara han llegado a un acuerdo, que sus alcaldes califican de «histórico», para coordinar conjuntamente el desarrollo sostenible de ambos municipios y promover y garantizar el equilibrio inversor insular, impulsando, entre otros aspectos, la proyección turística de Pájara y la industrial de Tuineje. En la reunión mantenida por los dos alcaldes y responsables de los grupos políticos presentes en las dos corporaciones, se decidió llevar a pleno, en ambos ayuntamientos, sendas mociones para respaldar la creación de una Comisión Institucional que promueva el desarrollo equilibrado de las comarcas de la isla de Fuerteventura. Esta comisión, contará con un equipo de técnicos de los dos ayuntamientos, que trabajará con una visión de conjunto y para la proyección de estos municipios, que gozan desde siempre con estrechos lazos económicos, sociales y hasta familiares. En este punto, los alcaldes de Tuineje y Pájara coinciden en denunciar que en la isla existen dos velocidades de desarrollo, «la que disfruta la comarca norte y la que padecemos en la comarca sur». Por ello, expondrán ante el Cabildo de Fuerteventura, el Gobierno de Canarias y el Estado la necesidad de equiparar, en materia de inversiones, infraestructuras y servicios, las comarcas norte y sur de la isla. Salvador Delgado Guerra aboga por un desarrollo industrial de Tuineje, y conseguir la calificación de interés general para el Muelle de Gran Tarajal, por sus inmejorables condiciones marítimas y de ubicación. También añade que para Tuineje es importante que Pájara crezca desde el punto de vista turístico, y añade que la mutua influencia nos mueve a mantener las mismas reivindicaciones. Para el alcalde de Pájara, la comarca sur tiene que ganar protagonismo, y este encuentro histórico es el punto de partida para desplazar más al sur el centro estratégico insular. Los acuerdos, agrega Rafael Perdomo, implicarán la solicitud conjunta de subvenciones, la realización conjunta de proyectos, así como dar respuesta al movimiento ciudadano que reclama la potenciación socioeconómica de la zona centro-sur de Fuerteventura. Los alcaldes reiteran que la comarca sur debe ir a la misma velocidad que el resto de la isla; por lo que en el encuentro de trabajo estuvieron presentes representantes de todos los partidos presentes en ambas instituciones: NC, PP, CC, AMP-CCN y PSC-PSOE, lo que supone una representación política global del sentir expresado en las urnas de la población de ambos municipios.

Historical agreement between Tuineje and Pájara for a durable and balanced development of the Island The Ayuntamientos of Tuineje and Pájara have come to an agreement that their mayors call «historical», with a view of coordinating jointly a durable development of both municipalities, promote and guarantee a balanced investment on the island, in order to promote aspects such as Pájara’s Tourism and Tuineje’s Industrial projects. With this in mind, they will explain to Fuerteventura’s Cabildo, the Canarian Government and the State about the necessity

to equip, with investments, infrastructures and services both northern and southern regions of the island. Salvador Delgado Guerra argues the industrial development of Tuineje and requests the qualification of Gran Tarajal’s harbour as a matter of general interest, for its perfect maritime conditions and location. He also adds that it is important for Tuineje that Pájara improved on a tourism level in order have a mutual influence on their recognition. In Pájara’s mayor’s point of view, the Southern region must gain prominence and this historical meeting in the opportunity to bring the island’s strategic centre further south. The agreement will imply joint requests for subventions, joint project executions, as well as answering the citizens’ demand for socio-economical improvement of the centre-south area of Fuerteventura. The mayors insist that the southern region must develop at the same speed as the rest of the island; which is why representatives of all political parties from both institutions attended this meeting in order to ensure a global political representation of the wishes of the population in both municipalities.

Historisches Abkommen zwischen Tuineje und Pájara für eine nachhaltige und ausgeglichene Entwicklung Die Gemeinden von Tuineje und Pájara schlossen ein Abkommen, das von ihren Bürgermeistern als historisch bezeichnet wurde, um gemeinsam die nachhaltige Entwicklung beider Gemeinden zu koordinieren und das Gleichgewicht der Investitionen auf der Insel zu fördern und zu gewährleisten, wobei

unter anderem der Tourismus in Pájara und die Industrie in Tuineje angeregt werden. In der Sitzung der Bürgermeister und Vertreter der politischen Parteien, die in den beiden Korporationen ver treten sind, wurde beschlossen, in beiden Gemeinden die beiden Entschließungen ins Plenum zu bringen, um die Gründung einer institutionellen Kommission für die ausgeglichen Entwicklung der Landkreise der Insel Fuerteventura zu unterstützen. Dieser Kommission wird ein Team von Technikern der Gemeinden zur Verfügung stehen, die an einer gemeinsamen Vision für die Zukunft dieser Gemeinde arbeiten wird, die von jeher enge wirtschaftliche, soziale und sogar familiäre Verbindungen hat. An dieser Stelle prangerten die Bürgermeister von Tuineje und Pájara beide an, dass es auf der Insel zwei verschiedene Entwicklungsgeschwindigkeiten gibt:

«Die des Nordens und die bei uns im Süden». Deshalb werden Sie vor dem Cabildo von Fuerteventura, der Regierung der Kanaren und dem Staat die Notwendigkeit darlegen, dass die Landkreise Norden und Süden der Insel über die gleichen Investitionen, Infrastrukturen und Leistungen verfügen müssen. Salvador Delgado Guerra befürwor tet eine industrielle Entwicklung von Tuineje und dass der Hafen von Gran Tarajal aufgrund seiner Voraussetzungen und seiner Lage von allgemeinem Interesse sein sollte. Außerdem erklärt er, dass für Tuineje das touristische Wachstum von Pájara wichtig ist. Er fügt hinzu, dass der gegenseitige Einfluss uns dazu bringt, die gleichen Forderungen zu stellen. Für den Bürgermeister von Pájara muss der Landkreis an Bedeutung gewinnen, und er hält dieses historische Treffe nfür den Anfang, um das strategische Zentrum der Insel weiter nach Süden zu rücken. Rafael Perdomo fügt hinzu, dass zu den Abkommen gemeinsame Anträge für Subventionen und die gemeinsame Ausführung von Projekten gehören werden, wodurch auf die Bürgerbewegung eingegangen wird, die eine sozio-ökonomische Stärkung des Bereichs Zentrum-Süden von Fuerteventura fordert. Die Bürgermeister betonen noch einmal, dass sich der Landkreis genauso schnell entwickeln muss wie der Rest der Insel. Aus diesem Grund waren bei diesem Arbeitsessen Vertreter aller Parteien anwesend, die in beiden Institutionen vertreten sind: NC, PP, CC, AMPCCN y PSC-PSOE, was bedeutete, dass die Politik gemäß den Wahlergebnissen beider Gemeinden vertreten war.

La ULPGC y el Ayuntamiento de Pájara estrechan su colaboración ACFIPRESS - Fuerteventura La Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria y el Ayuntamiento de Pájara estrecharán más los lazos de cooperación este año, según quedó patente en un encuentro de trabajo mantenido esta misma mañana entre responsables de ambas instituciones. El alcalde de Pájara, Rafael Perdomo Betancor, asegura que se trata de incidir positivamente en la formación continua del personal del Ayuntamiento, en ayudar al alumnado superior de la localidad en la obtención de becas, animarlo a participar en proyectos de voluntariado y cooperación internacional o cursar estudios de especialización en otros países europeos. Algunos proyectos del Ayuntamiento también recibirán el apoyo de la ULPGC, reconoce Rafael Perdomo, «de manera que alguno de sus técnicos se trasladará a Fuerteventura para acometer labores de apoyo, impulso y formación». En la reunión estuvieron presentes la vicerrectora de relaciones Internacionales e Institucionales de la ULPGC, Rosario Berriel Martínez, Josefa de la Rosa Cantos, gerente del Centro Universitario de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo (CUCID), el alcalde de la localidad, Rafael Perdomo, y las concejalas de Educación, Ruth Lupzik, y de Cultura, Rosa Bella Cabrera Noda. Ruth Lupzik detalla que en el encuentro de trabajo también se abordaron asuntos como las becas, el voluntariado internacional, la cooperación internacional para el desarrollo, la innovación, las ofertas de doctorado, las relaciones educativas internacionales, las ofertas de grado y postrado de la ULPGC, etcétera. Asimismo, la vicerrectora y la gerente del CUCID expusieron ante los responsables del Ayuntamiento de Pájara la amplia oferta que en materia de Cooperación Internacional para el Desarrollo llevará a cabo la ULPGC hasta el año 2010, programa que esperan cuente con alumnos de Pájara y los otros municipios de Fuerteventura.

Die Vizerektorin und die Geschäftsführerin der CUCID beschrieben den Verantwortlichen der Gemeinde von Pájaradas das große Angebot im Bereich der internationalen Kooperation für Entwicklung, das die ULPGC bis 2010 durchführen wird, wobei man davon ausgeht, dass Schüler aus Pájara und anderen Gemeinden von Fuerteventura teilnehmen werden.

El Cabildo de Fuerteventura otorga subvenciones a 93 clubes y deportistas ACFIPRESS - Fuerteventura Un total de 93 deportistas, clubes y entidades deportivas de Fuerteventura se distribuirán los 200.000 euros de ayudas concedidas por el Cabildo de Fuerteventura dentro de la convocatoria anual destinada a apoyar los proyectos de formación y promoción deportiva que se desarrollan en la Isla. El Cabildo de Fuerteventura, a través del Consejo de Gobierno que el pasado 23 de diciembre se reunió en sesión ordinaria bajo la presidencia de Mario Cabrera, acordó aprobar la concesión de estas subvenciones genéricas. La cuantía de estas ayudas oscila entre los 600 y los 6.000 euros y en su baremación se tienen en cuenta criterios relacionados con el número de personas que participan en la actividad a subvencionar, el fomento del deporte base, etc. Las actividades que se apoyan con estas 93 subvenciones abarcan alrededor de 20 modalidades deportivas distintas, aunque todas ellas siempre asociadas al deporte de base y no profesional, dentro de las competencias que tiene asumidas la Consejería de Deportes del Cabildo de Fuerteventura: natación, fútbol, tiro con arco, surf y bodyboard, atletismo, bola canaria, lucha canaria, vela latina, automovilismo, bádminton, rugby, aeromodelismo, etc.

Bei der Verteilung dieses Geldes spielt so wohl die Anzahl der Teilnehmer der subventionierten Sportart als auch die Förderung des Basissportes eine Rolle. Zu den Aktivitäten, die mit diesen 93 Subventionen unterstützt werden, gehören ungefähr 20 verschiedene Sportarten, wobei all diese für Basissport und nicht für Profisport sind. Zu den Kompetenzen des Amtes für Sport des Cabildo von Fuerteventura gehören: Schwimmen, Fußball, Bodenschiessen, Surfen und Bodyboard, Athletik, kanarisches Boccia, lateinisches Segeln, Autosport, Badminton, Rugby, Flugsport usw.

Gran Tarajal cuenta con dos conexiones directas semanales con Las Palmas FMHOY - Fuerteventura

El puerto de Gran Tarajal cuenta, desde el lunes día 12 de enero, con dos nuevas conexiones directas semanales con el puerto de Las Palmas, ateniendo a la demanda de pasaje y carga que se ha generado en aquel puerto. En concreto los ferris de Naviera Armas saldrán todos los miércoles y viernes desde Las Palmas a las 23:30 horas con destino a Gran Tarajal. La vuelta desde este puerto será los jueves y sábado a las 12:00 horas.

Las conexiones con Puerto del Rosario se mantienen los lunes, martes y jueves a las 23:30 horas, con regreso a las 11:30 horas los martes, miércoles y viernes. Asimismo, Armas ha creado un nuevo servicio de billete único entre Puerto del Rosario y Gran Tarajal con Tenerife los martes, miércoles y jueves, con trasbordo en las Palmas a las 19:30 horas. Ya hay una conexión directa los sábados a las 18:30 horas entre Morro Jable y Tenerife, vía Las Palmas.

Das Schiff fährt dienstags und mittwochs um 19.30 nach Las Palmas, wo die Passagiere umsteigen müssen. Außerdem gibt es samstags um 18:30 eine direkte Verbindung zwischen Morro Jable und Tenerifa, die über Las Palmas geht.

«Artífices de la magia y belleza del Carnaval» FVHOY - Fuerteventura Cada municipio de la isla tiene sus carnavales y como consecuencia sus reinas, ese espectáculo lleva detrás muchas horas de trabajo, ideas de magníficos artistas y creadores, un esfuerzo económico importante y mucha dedicación de horas e ilusiones. En este año Fuerteventura Magazine Hoy, quiere brindar un modesto homenaje a todos lo que convierten en realidad esta fiesta, comenzando por algunos diseñadores del Carnaval de Gran Tarajal, que a pesar de pertenecer a un pequeño municipio, cada año nos sorprende con su buena organización, su colorido y belleza, lo que le convierte en uno de los más bonitos de la isla. Con este fin hemos entrevistado a dos de los diseñadores pioneros: Bernardo Jaime Vega y Nina Rodríguez Noda.

BERNARDO JAIME VEGA Bernardo ¿cómo se involucra en la creación de estos fantásticos vestidos que lucen las candidatas a «Reina del Carnaval»? Comencé en el año 1982, como una manifestación de mi imaginación y creatividad. ¿Ya para ese entonces tenía su tienda, Modas Soler? Sí, siempre estuve en el mundo de la moda, es mi vocación. ¿Trabaja siempre con el mismo equipo en la confección de estos vestidos? No siempre con el mismo equipo, en los primeros trabajaba en los que participé, lo hice con otras personas. En la actualidad trabajo por encargo de un diseño, y a partir de él, colaboro en la estructura, el revestimiento etc. ¿Cómo llegan hasta usted las futuras candidatas que representarán su diseño, hay algún casting inicial? Casi siempre son conocidas o hijas de amigos y básicamente las elijo por su estatura y medidas; el físico es importante, pero también su simpatía y soltura en el escenario. No obstante yo les hago practicar mucho con el vestido puesto, los días antes de la gala y les enseño todo lo que pienso que es importante para su debut en el escenario. Ensayan incluso con la música que les va a acompañar durante la presentación.

Estos trajes, que son de mucho trabajo y alto coste, ¿cómo se financian? Generalmente entre varias entidades, comercios o asociaciones. Por ejemplo, en el último carnaval, el traje que presentamos fue de una asociación de padres del colegio. Me pidieron que les echara una mano y me involucré desde el diseño, hasta todo el resto del proceso. Fue mi colaboración en ese caso. Por lo que se ve en las fotos que nos muestra también diseña los trajes para la reina infantil. Sí, y he tenido el placer de ganar con mis creaciones en tres ocasiones para Reina Infantil y en siete para Reina del Carnaval. Incluso cuando en el hotel «Los Gorriones» se hizo la Gala de la Reina de la isla

para elegir la que representaría a Fuerteventura, mi candidata fue la elegida con el nombre de «Mensajera de la Paz».

QUIÉN ES QUIÉN EN LA ISLA / WHO’S WHO IN THE ISLAND? /WER IST WER AUF DER INSEL? ¿Cómo nace esta afición? Cuando se decidió hacer la primera Gala de Reina fue, todavía, cuando existía el cine que teníamos en Gran Tarajal y pensamos que había que colaborar y motivar al resto para dar vida a esta fiesta en nuestro municipio. Queríamos que nuestras creaciones nacieran realmente aquí y que sirvieran para motivar el comercio en la ciudad. ¿Cosen y confeccionan, ustedes mismas, los trajes además de diseñarlos? Sí, totalmente. Desde la idea original hasta que está terminado. Los armazones nos los da forma un señor,

al que le vamos explicando lo que queremos y, últimamente, nos ha ayudado también un muchacho de Puerto del Rosario que también es diseñador. ¿Todos los distintos materiales que componen estos trajes, los consiguen aquí? La intención es precisamente que lo máximo posible se consiga en el municipio para dar vida al comercio de la zona y ayudarlo. Si puntualmente nos es imposible conseguir alguna cosa, vamos a la capital o como último recurso a Las Palmas, pero nuestro deseo es que todo se haga y se consiga aquí mismo. Nina también su actividad laboral se encuentra en el mundo de la moda…

NINA RODRÍGUEZ NODA ¿Nina, cuánto tiempo lleva diseñando estos maravillosos trajes? Ya hace 22 años que comenzamos. Somos un grupo de amigos que tenemos comercios en la zona y que nos denominamos «Grupo Caramelo» y que nos juntamos para diseñar, coser y dar forma a estos vestidos que lucen luego las candidatas a reinas de Gran Tarajal. ¿Quiénes componen el grupo? Somos nueve, quiero dar sus nombres, pues todos somos artífices de cada diseño y cada uno se especializa en un trabajo, silicona, lentejuelas, plumas etc. Mis compañeros son: Kina Camejo, Ana Mesa, Mª Pino Domínguez, David Pérez, Saro Armas, Ana Carmona, Tita Marrero, Rosa Carmona, Mº del Carmen Pérez y Eloísa Ojeda.

Sí, soy propietaria de la boutique Nina, en Gran Tarajal, pero llevo cosiendo desde que era pequeña, me ha gustado siempre; fue mi madre quien me fue enseñando. Comencé haciendo los disfraces de mi familia. ¿De donde es natural? Nací aquí, en este municipio y casi siempre he vivido en Gran Tarajal. ¿Cuánto tiempo les toma confeccionar uno de estos trajes, que son verdaderas obras de arte? Por ejemplo, el que hicimos para mi hija se confecciono en 9 días, nos reuníamos desde la salida del trabajo de cada una de nosotras, hasta las tres o cuatro de la mañana que volvíamos a nuestras casas. Todo un record de tiempo… Y díganos ¿han ganado con sus trajes algún certamen de reina? Sí, en cuatro ocasiones nuestras candidatas llegaron al trono, y la única vez que hicimos el traje para una candidata infantil también quedo Reina. ¿Están ya preparando el traje para este año? Aún no estamos seguras si nos presentaremos este año, de vez en cuando descansamos algún carnaval, y entre la crisis y ciertos problemas de algunas personas del grupo es, probable que no nos presentemos este año. Es mucha la presión que se vive, también muy alto el coste, y aunque nos han ayudado algunos negocios desde fuera del grupo, no deja de ser una fuerte inversión para todas. ¿No reciben ninguna subvención del Ayuntamiento? Sí, algo nos da pero no es mucho, tampoco pueden hacerlo, porque somos muchos, entre grupos, comparsas, murgas, grupos de baile etc. Conseguir una Reina, ¿conlleva algún premio adicional? No, a la señorita galardonada se le obsequian pequeños regalos de las firmas participantes, pero para los diseñadores y modistos, solo es la satisfacción de haber ganado. Lo que sí ocurre es que, si no ganas con la candidata que presentas, tiendes a desanimarte y los grupos se desmotivan. Bueno pero lo importante es que gracias a todos los que presentan sus creaciones, el carnaval de Gran Tarajal es cada vez más conocido y tiene mas categoría. Todos ustedes han conseguido darle esa magia que necesita este festejo.

«Creators of the Carnival’s magic and beauty» FMHOY - Fuerteventura

Each municipality on the island has its own carnivals and therefore its own Queens, this show takes many hours of work, beautiful ideas of artists and creators, an important financial investment and the dedication of many hours and dreams. This year, Fuerteventura Magazine Hoy wants to honour all those who make this celebration a reality, starting with some designers from Gran Tarajal’s Carnival that, despite the small size of the municipality, surprises us every year with such a good organisation, colours and beauty, and makes it one of the greatest Carnivals of the island. With this in mind we interviewed two of the pioneering designers: Bernardo Jaime Vega and Nina Rodríguez Noda.

BERNARDO JAIME VEGA Bernardo, how did you get involved in the creation of those fantastic dresses worn by «Carnival Queen» candidates? I started in 1982, to express my imagination and creativity. Is that why you also have your shop «Modas Soler»? Yes, I have always been involved in fashion, this is my vocation. Do you always work with the same team to create those dresses? No, it is not always the same team. I first worked with those where I participated with other people. Nowadays I take orders for models, and from that point, I collaborate with the structure, the materials, etc. How do future candidates who will wear your designs get introduced to you, is there some kind of casting?

Yes, I have had the pleasure of winning three times with my creations for the Infant Queen and seven times for the Carnival’s Queen’s dress. Furthermore in the hotel «Los Gorriones» at the occasion of the Island’s

Most of the time we know them, or they are daughters of friends and basically I choose them according to their size; the physical appearance is important but kindness and confidence are also important. However I make them practise a lot wearing the dress during the days preceding the gala and I teach them what is important for their debut in the scene. We also test the music that will play during the presentation. Those costumes take a lot of work and are expensive, how are they financed? Normally various entities finance the project, businesses and associations. For example, during the last carnival, the costume we presented was financed by an association of fathers from a school. They asked me to give them a hand and I got involved from the design until completion of the dress. This was my collaboration. From what we can see in the pictures you have shown us, you also design dresses for the Infant Queen.

who own businesses in the area and we have called ourselves «Grupo Caramelo», we get together to design, sew and create those dresses that Queen Candidates will show off in Gran Tarajal. Who is in the group? There are nine of us, I want to name them all as we are all creators and each have our own speciality whether it is silicone, sequin, feathers, etc. My friends are: Kina Camejo, Ana Mesa, Mª Pino Domínguez, David Pérez, Saro Armas, Ana Carmona, Tita Marrero, Rosa Carmona, Mº del Carmen Pérez and Eloísa Ojeda. How did this passion come about? The first Queen’s Gala was organised when we still had the cinema in Gran Tarajal and we thought that we had to collaborate and motivate the others to bring life to this celebration in the municipality. We wanted our creations to really come from here and be an incentive for the town’s businesses. Do you sew and create the dresses yourselves as well as designing them? Yes, completely from the original idea until completion. A gentleman makes the frame for us, we explain to him what we want and lately a young boy who is a designer from Puerto del Rosario has been helping us also. Do you find all the different materials used in those dresses here? We try as much as possible to get materials from this municipality in order to make local businesses work. If

at times we are unable to get something here, we go to Puerto del Rosario or to Las Palmas in extreme cases, but our objective it to get everything from here. Nina, you work in the fashion industry as well, doesn’t you? Yes, I own the shop called Nina in Gran Tarajal, but I have been sewing since I was a child, I always liked it; it was my mother who taught me. I started by making clothes for my family. Where were you born? I was born here, in this municipality and I have almost always lived in Gran Tarajal. How long does it take to make one of those dresses that are authentic works of art? For example, we made one for my daughter which we completed in 9 day, we all got together after work everyday working until three or four o’clock in the morning. This beats all the time records… tell us, have some of your dresses won some Queen competitions? Yes, our candidates won four times and we also won on the unique occasion we made a dress for an Infant Queen. Are you already preparing the dress for this year? We are not sure if we will participate this year,

sometimes we have a break for some Carnivals and because of the crisis and some problems experienced by some people in our group; we may not participate this year. It is a lot of pressure to take and it is very costly, although some businesses outside our group have helped us, it still represents a large investment for each one of us. Don’t you get any subventions from the Ayuntamiento? Yes, they give us something but it is not a lot, but they can’t give much either as there are so many of us, between the groups, the bands, the dancers, etc. When you win the Queen’s competition, do you get an additional prize? No; the young lady gets small gifts from the sponsors but the designers and creators only get the satisfaction of winning. The trouble is that when you don’t win with your candidate, you tend to lose interest and the group stops being motivated. Well, what is important is that thanks to all those who present their creations, Gran Tarajal’s carnival gets more and more notorious. You all create the magic this celebration needs.

FMHOY - Fuerteventura Jede Gemeinde der Insel hat ihren Karneval und folglich ihre Königinnen. Hinter dieser Show liegen zahlreiche Stunden Arbeit, Ideen von großartigen Künstlern und Designern, ein hoher finanzieller Einsatz und viele Stunden vor Hingabe und Hoffnung. Dieses Jahr möchte Fuerteventura Magazine Hoy all denen eine bescheidene Homage machen, die dazu beitragen, dieses Fest zu realisieren. Damit beginnen wir bei einigen Designern des Karnevals von Gran Tarajal, der uns, obwohl er in einer kleinen Gemeinde stattfindet, Jahr für Jahr aufgrund seiner guten Organisation, seiner Farben und seiner Schönheit überrascht, weshalb er zu den schönsten der Insel gehört. Aus diesem Grund haben wir zwei der Pioniere unter den Designern interviewt: Bernardo Jaime Vega und Nina Rodríguez Noda

BERNARDO JAIME VEGA Bernardo, wie haben Sie angefangen, diese fantastischen Kleider für die Faschingsköniginnen zu entwerfen? Ich begann 1982, damals war es ein Ausdruck meines Vorstellungsvermögens und meiner Kreativität. Hatten Sie damals schon Ihr Geschäft Modas Soler? Ja, ich habe immer in der Modebranche gearbeitet, das ist meine Berufung. Arbeiten Sie bei der Herstellung dieser Kleider immer mit den gleichen Leuten zusammen?

Nein, in den ersten Jahren, in denen ich am Karneval teilnahm, arbeitete ich mit anderen Leuten. Heute mache ich Auftragsarbeiten, man bringt mir einen Entwurf und ich arbeite an der Struktur, an der Bearbeitung usw. Wie finden Sie die Kandidatinnen, die Ihre entwürfe vorführen, machen Sie irgend ein Casting? Fast immer sind es Bekannte oder Töchter von Freunden. Ich wähle sie vor allem aufgrund ihrer Größe. Der Körper ist wichtig, aber auch dass sie sympathisch sind und sich locker auf der Bühne bewegen. Dazu kommt, dass ich sie an den Tagen vor der Gala sehr viel mit den Kostümen üben lasse und ihnen alles bei bringe, was ich bei einem Debüt auf der Bühne für wichtig halte. Sie üben auch mit der Musik, die sie bei der Vorführung begleiten wird. Man braucht viel Zeit, um diese Arbeiten herzustellen, außerdem sind sie sehr teuer. Wie werden sie finanziert? Generell kommt das Geld aus verschiedenen Quellen, von Geschäften und Vereinen. Zum Beispiel beim vergangenen Karneval gehörte das Kleid, das wir präsentierten, dem Elternverein einer Schule. Sie baten mich um Hilfe und ich machte vom Entwurf bis zur Ausführung des Prozesses alles. In diesem Fall habe ich mitgewirkt. Aufgrund der Fotos, die Sie uns gezeigt haben, haben wir gesehen, dass Sie auch Kleider für die Kinderkönigin entwerfen. Ja, ich hatte das Glück, mit meinen Kostümen drei

Mal den Wettbewerb für die Kinderkönigin zu entwerfen und sieben Mal den der Karnevalskönigin. Auch als die I. Gala der Inselkönigin im Hotel «Los Gorriones» stattfand, wo die Königin gewählt wurde, die Fuerteventura vertreten sollte, wurde meine Kandidatin mit dem Namen «Friedensbotin» gewählt.

Nina, seit wann entwerfen Sie schon so wunderbare Kleider? Wir machen das schon seit 22 Jahren. Wir sind eine Gruppe von Freundinnen, wir haben Geschäfte in der Gegend und nennen uns «Grupo Caramelo». Wir treffen uns, um Entwürfe zu machen, zusammen zu nähen und diese Kleider fertig zu stellen, die später von den Kandidatinnen für die Königin von Gran Tarajal getragen werden. Aus wem besteht die Gruppe? Wir sind neun Frauen, ich möchte ihre Namen sagen, denn wir alle sind für alle Entwürfe verantwortlich, und jede von uns ist auf irgend eine Arbeit spezialisiert, Silikon, Pailletten, Federn usw. Meine Kolleginnen sind: Kina Camejo, Ana Mesa, Maria Pino Domínguez, David Pérez, Saro Armas, Ana Carmona, Tita Marrero, Rosa Carmona, Maria del Carmen Pérez und Eloísa Ojeda. Woher kommt diese Leidenschaft? Das geschah, als die erste Gala der Königin vorbereitet wurde. Damals gab es noch das Kino von Gran Tarajal. Wir fanden, dass man sich beteiligen müsste, um den Rest der Bevölkerung zu motivieren, an diesem Fest in unserer Gemeinde mitzumachen. Wir wollten unsere Kleider hier machen, um die Geschäfte der Gegend zu fördern. Entwerfen Sie die Kleider nur, oder nähen und Sie sie auch und fertigen selbst an? Ja, wir machen alles selbst. Von der Idee bis das Kleid fertig ist. Die Gestelle macht uns ein Mann, dem wir erklären, was wir wollen, und in der letzten Zeit hat uns auch ein junger Desisgner aus Puerto del Rosario geholfen. Bekommen Sie all diese verschiedenen Materialien hier, aus denen die Kostüme hergestellt werden? Wir bemühen uns, so viel wie möglich in der Gemeinde zu bekommen, um die Geschäfte der Gegend zu unterstützen. Wenn wir irgend etwas nicht finden, fahren wir in die Hauptstadt oder im Notfall

auch nach Las Palmas. Wir möchten allerdings, dass alles hier hergestellt und eingekauft wird. Nina, Sie arbeiten außerdem im Bereich der Mode … Ja, ich bin Besitzerin der Boutiquee Nina in Gran Tarajal, aber ich nähe seit ich klein bin. Das hat mir immer Spaß gemacht; ich habe es von meiner Mutter gelernt. Ich habe angefangen, indem ich die Verkleidungen meiner Familie fertigstellte. Wo wurden Sie geboren? Ich wurde hier in dieser Gemeinde geboren und habe

fast immer in Gran Tarajal gelebt. Wie lange brauchen Sie, um eines dieser Kostüme, die wahre Kunstwerke sind, herzustellen? An dem Kleid für meine Tochter arbeiteten wir 9 Tage. Wir trafen uns nach der Arbeit und arbeiten bis drei oder vier Uhr morgens daran. Dann gingen wir nach hause. Das ist eine große Leistung … Erzählen Sie uns, ob irgendeines Ihrer Kostüme den Königinnenwettbewerb gewonnen hat? Ja, unsere Kandidatinnen kamen vier Mal auf den Thron. Wir machte ein einziges Mal ein Kostüm für ein Mädchen, was dann auch Kinderkönigin wurde. Sind Sie schon dabei, ein Kostüm für dieses Jahr vorzubereiten? Wir sind noch nicht sicher, ob wir dieses Jahr mitmachen. Manchmal setzen wir ein Jahr aus. Wegen der Kriese und aufgrund von Problemen einiger Mitglieder der Gruppe, ist möglich, dass wir dieses Jahr nicht mitmachen. Es gibt sehr viel Druck, außerdem ist es sehr teuer. Obwohl uns einige Geschäfte geholfen haben, ist es eine große Investition für uns alle. Erhalten Sie keine Subventionen von der Gemeinde? Doch, wir bekommen etwas, aber nicht viel. Das wäre auch nicht möglich, denn wir sind viele: Gruppen, Musiker, Tanzgruppen usw. Bekommen Sie ein besonderen Preis, wenn Ihre Kandidatin Königin wird? Nein, das Mädchen, das gewinnt, bekommt kleine Geschenke der Firmen, die an dem Wettbewerb teilnehmen, aber für die Designer und Modeschöpfer bleibt nur die Befriedigung, gewonnen zu haben. Wenn man nicht mit der Kandidatin, die man präsentiert, gewinnt, dann verliert man leicht die Lust. Die Gruppe verliert die Lust. Das wichtigste ist, dass dank aller, die Ihre Krationen präsentieren, der Karneval von Gran Tarajal immer bekannter wird und immer mehr Niveau hat. Alle haben dazu beigetragen, dass das Fest die notwendige Magie angenommen hat.

Las fiestas de Carnaval FMHOY - Fuerteventura Las fiestas de Carnaval provienen de la cultura romana y de la germana. La palabra en su forma actual parece provenir del italiano carne vale, igualmente válida para el latín y que significa «adiós carne». El papa San Gregorio el Grande denominó al domingo antes del inicio de la cuaresma, Dominica ad carnes levandas, de donde se formaría carne levamen y finalmente carnevale. Estas etimologías hacen referencia a la abstinencia de carne y sexo impuesta por la cuaresma (de ahí la expresión «pasar más hambre que una prostituta en cuaresma») y explican el desenfreno de la larga despedida de los placeres. Otra etimología, que entronca mucho mejor con la historia, hace derivar la palabra carnaval del latín currus navalis - carro navale, carro naval y que haría referencia al barco con ruedas que se paseaba procesionalmente en las fiestas de primavera en Grecia, en el imperio romano, en los países teutónicos y en los pueblos celtas. Sobre este carro naval se paseaba al dios respectivo y ante él se bailaban danzas promiscuas y se cantaban canciones satíricas y obscenas. Ésa fue la primera de todas las carrozas carnavaleras, que se procura que nunca falte donde se conoce esta tradición. Los carnavales son la aglutinación de muchas fiestas, ritos y tradiciones. En muchos lugares de Alemania la preparación del Carnaval empieza el 11 del 11 a las 11,11. Otros lo empiezan el 6 de enero. En Venecia antiguamente empezaba el 6 de diciembre. Las saturnales son las fiestas romanas de las que son herederos primigenios los Carnavales. Pero luego se fundieron en ellos las bacanales y las lupercales, que se caracterizaban por el desorden civil y el desenfreno. En buena parte el teatro tiene su origen en las representaciones rituales de los predecesores del Car-

Fiestas de carnaval en Puerto del Rosario naval, que entre otras funciones tenían la de aplacar a los espíritus de los difuntos. De ahí las máscaras que son el gran distintivo del teatro. Se practicaban una serie de rituales reviviendo a los difuntos mediante la túnica blanca que los representaba, y su máscara. El rito culminaba con un sacrificio humano. En las saturnales romanas, 30 días antes de la culminación de las fiestas, los soldados elegían como rey al más bello de entre sus compañeros. Durante 30 días tenía poder absoluto sobre ellos. Y el último día le obligaban a matarse en el altar del dios Saturno, de quien era personificación. En Creta, Olimpia y otros pueblos griegos, se inmolaba cada año a Cronos un hombre. En Rodas se le embarraba y se le daba muerte. Los

judíos, en la fiesta de los Purím crucificaban una efigie de Amán y después la quemaban. Hoy nos quedan de esos ritos la elección de la reina del Carnaval en unos lugares y del rey del Carnaval en otros (el rey de los locos). Pero lo que se sacrifica quemándolo, colgándolo, celebrando su entierro... es un muñeco. Otras muchas tradiciones aglutina el Carnaval, como «el entierro de Baco» en Venecia, el Fastnacht teutónico, la fiesta de los locos, la danza de los toneleros, la fiesta del buey gordo...

This is the first of all Carnival Floats that would ensure that people there would never know shortages. Carnivals are a mix of many celebrations, rituals and traditions. In many places in Germany, Carnival preparations start on 11th of November at 11:11. Others start on 6th January. In Venice, it used to start on 6th December. The very first carnivals were inherited from Roman Saturnalia celebrations to which other celebrations got associated later such as Bacchanalia and Lupercalia celebrations that were characterised by civil turmoil and lack of control. Theatre mainly takes its origins from ritual representations of Carnivals’ predecessors that aimed at appeasing spirits of deceased people. A series of rituals used to be carried out bringing the deceased back to life by representing them with white tunics and masks. The ritual used to end with a human sacrifice. In Roman Saturnalia celebrations, 30 days before the end of the celebrations, soldiers used to elect as king

the most handsome out of them. For 30 days he had absolute power over them. On the last day he was then made to kill himself on Saturn God’s altar, who he had impersonated. In Crete, Olympia and other Greek villages, every year a man was sacrificed for Cronos. In Rhodes they used to kidnap a man and kill him. Jews, in the celebration of Purim, used to crucify a representation of Haman and then burn it. Nowadays all that remains from those rites if the election of the Carnival’s Queen and in some places the Carnival’s King (king of fools). And what is now sacrificed, burned, carried around celebrating its burial….is a doll. Many other traditions are present in the Carnival such as the «burial of Baco» in Venice, the Teutonic «Fastnacht», fools’ celebration, the cooper’s dance, the fat ox celebration…

Die Karnevalsfeste sind eine Zusammenführung vieler Feste, Rituale und Traditionen. In vielen Orten in Deutschland beginnt die Vorbereitung des Karnevals am 11. 11 um 11,11 Uhr. Anderswo am 6. Es wurden zahlreiche Rituale durchgeführt, bei denen die Toten durch eine weiße Tunika dargestellt und wieder zum Leben erweckt wurden. Dieses Ritual endete mit

dem Opfer eines Menschen. Bei den römischen Saturnalien wählten die Soldaten 30 Tage vor dem Ende des Festes den Schönsten ihrer Kumpanen zum König. Am letzten Tag zwangen sie ihn, sich am Altar des Gottes Saturn, den er versinnbildlichte, umzubringen. Auf Kreta, in Olympia und anderen griechischen Dörfern wurde jedes Jahr dem Kronos ein Mensch geopfert. Auf Rhodos wurde er mit Schmutz beworfen und getötet. Beim Purimfest kreuzigten die Juden ein Abbild von Aman, was sie später verbrannten. Heute blieb von diesen Ritualen in einigen Orten die Wahl der Faschingskönigin und in anderen die des Königs (der König der Verrückten). Aber heute wird nur eine Puppe geopfert, die verbrannt oder aufgehängt und beerdigt wird. Der Karneval vereint viele andere Traditionen, wie die «Beerdigung des Bacchus» in Venedig, die teutonische Fastnacht, das Fest der Verrückten, der Tanz der Böttcher, das Fest des dicken Ochsen...

Carnival celebrations Carnivals come from Roman and Germanic cultures. The word as we know it now seems to come from the Italian «cane vale», same in Latin, which means «goodbye meat». The Pope Gregory the Great called the Sunday before the beginning of Lent: «Dominica ad carnes levandas», where «carne levamen» came from and finally: «canevale». Those etymologies make reference to abstinence of meat and sex imposed by Lent, and explain the lack of control of the farewell to pleasures. Another etymology, that seems to fit history better, says that the word «carnival» comes from the Latin «currus navalis» – «naval cart» which would make reference to the boat on wheels that was used in processions in the Spring Celebrations in Greece, during the Roman Empire, in Teutonic countries and in Celtic villages. Those «naval carts» used to carry their respective God and they used to carry out promiscuous dances and sing satirical and obscene songs in front of it.

Die Karnevalfeste Die Karnevalsfeste haben einen römischen und einen germanischen Ursprung. Das heutige Wort scheint von dem italienischen Ausdruck carne vale zu kommen, den es auch im Lateinischen gibt und der bedeutet(e) «Leb wohl Fleisch». Der Heilige Papst Gregor, der Große, nannte den Sonntag vor Beginn der Fastenzeit, Dominica ad carnes levandas, daraus entstand carne levamen und schließlich carnevale. Diese Etymologien beziehen sich auf den Entzug von Fleisch und Sex in der Fastenzeit (daher kommt der Ausdruck «mehr Hunger haben als eine Prostituierte in der Fastenzeit «) und erklären die Zügellosigkeit des langen Abschieds von den Freuden. Eine weitere Etymologie, die wesentlich besser mit der Geschichte übereinstimmt, führt das Wort Karneval auf das lateinische currus navalis - carro navale, Schiffskarren, zurück, was sich auf ein Schiff mit Rädern bezieht, das bei den Frühlingsfesten in Griechenland, im römischen Reich, in den teutonischen Ländern und den keltischen Dörfern in einer Prozession herumgeführt wurde. El disfraz FMHOY - Fuerteventura ne. La forma desfrezar, que sería el puente entre la forma catalana y la que hoy tiene la palabra en español, está dudosamente documentada. No disponiendo de ninguna otra explicación suficientemente sólida, forzoso es quedarse con ella. Hay quien apunta la posibilidad de que la palabra disfraz tuviera que ver con frazada, término arcaico con el significado de manta, capa, embozo. Otra etimología más, apunta a un hipotético verbo disfactiare, derivado de fácere (hacer) y que significaría desfigurar. Son verosímiles, pero no están documentadas. En cuanto a la evolución del significado, parece que también fue en catalán donde antes se produjo la asociación entre esta palabra y el disfraz propiamente dicho: desde el primitivo significado de borrar huellas (frezas) pasó a desfigurar y engañar (esta intención está presente en el verbo desde su misma creación), para llegar finalmente al disfraz de carnaval, que fue quien finalmente se quedó con la palabra. Y parece que vuelve a ser el catalán la lengua que primero aplicó este término a los disfraces festivos, allá por el siglo XIX. Antes de esto, recibían distintos nombres. No olvidemos que los griegos al antifaz o careta lo llamaban proswpon (prósopon) y los romanos persona. Y no perdamos de vista que en estos términos no se oculta ninguna intención engañosa, como ocurre claramente en el término disfraz si es cierto el origen y evolución que le asignamos.

Los diccionarios se curan en salud respecto al origen de esta palabra, y dicen que no hay certeza sobre el mismo. No obstante, apuntan con preferencia al verbo frezar como su más probable origen. Corominas, el gran lexicólogo, dedica tres páginas de su diccionario etimológico a argumentar y documentar esta tesis. Me apunto a ella. Según Corominas, la forma original de esta palabra fue desfrezar, y si no deriva, por lo menos tiene que ver con el catalán desfressar, documentado desde un siglo antes que el correlativo español, y con una evolución de significado que explica satisfactoriamente su evolución hasta el que hoy tiene. Se trata de una hipótesis muy verosímil. El verbo frezar, en versión catalana fressar, significa escarbar u hozar un animal haciendo hoyos o frezas; restregarse el pez contra las rocas o contra el fondo para desovar; roer las hojas el gusano de seda. La freza es por tanto, además de la acción de frezar, la huella que dejan los animales con esa acción. El origen es latino: frictiare sería el verbo del bajo latín (no documentado) que daría lugar a esta palabra. Es frecuentativo de fricare, que significa frotar, restregar. En el derivado fricción se percibe claramente el significado de este verbo. Pues bien, si le añadimos el prefijo des-, tenemos la acción de borrar las huellas de la freza, es decir borrar huellas sin más. El verbo catalán desfressar aparece en el siglo XIV con los significados de desfigurar, disimular, falsear. Sólo un siglo más tarde apuntaba la palabra en castellano, y en el siglo siguiente se afianzaba, pero con el significado ya decantado hacia el que actualmente tie-

The disguise Dictionaries all argue about the origins of this word «disfraz» in Spanish and they admit that there is no certainty about any of it. However they tend to agree that the verb «frezar» is probably at the source of its origins. Joan Coromines, the great linguist dedicates three pages of his dictionary to argue and document this theory. According to Joan Coromines the original spelling of the word was «desfrezar», which would be related to the word «desfressar» in Catalan, as documented a century before the influence of Spanish, and great evolution explains its present spelling. This is a very credible hypothesis. The verb «frezar», in Catalan «fressar», means when an animal scratches by making holes, when a fish rubs against rocks or on the bottom of the sea to lay eggs; when a silk worm gnaws into leaves. Others think that there is a possibility that the word «disfraz» would be related to the word «frazada», which is an archaic word that means blanket, cape, or cover. Another etymology is the hypothesis of the verb «disfactiare», derivative from «fácere» (to do) and means disfigure, those are credible but not documented. Trotzdem geben die meisten das Verb «frezar» als wahrscheinlichen Ursprung an. Das große Lexikon Corominas verwendet drei Seiten seines etymologischen Lexikons, um diese These zu verteidigen und zu erläutern. Ich stütze mich darauf. Nach Corominas war die ursprüngliche Form dieses Verbes „desfrezar». Auch wenn es nicht von dem katalanischen Verb „desfressa» abstammt, ist es zumindest mit diesem Verb verbunden, dessen Existenz ein Jahrhundert vor seinem spanischen Korrelat dokumentiert ist. Außerdem wird die Entwicklung seiner Bedeutung bis heute auf befriedigende Weise erklärt. Es ist eine sehr glaubhafte Hypothese. Vorher hatten die Verkleidungen verschiedene Namen. Wir sollten nicht vergessen, dass die Griechen die Maske proswpon (prósopon) nannten und die Römer „Persona». La necesidad de disfrazarse FMHOY - Fuerteventura Casi sin darnos cuenta pasamos de Todos los Santos a la Navidad y Nochevieja; y de aquí al Carnaval. Estas tres fiestas se enlazan porque tienen un denominador común: los disfraces. Y ese denominador común les viene del hecho de que en distintos momentos de la evolución de nuestro calendario, las tres celebraciones correspondieron al fin de año. Y de los tres fines de año es el más reciente, el del calendario actual, el que menos recurre a los disfraces, por no haber incorporado aún del todo los ritos que corresponden a este género de celebración. Pero va avanzando en ese camino, como si la fuerza de nuestros ancestros nos arrastrase inexorablemente hacia esos sagrados ritos. Y siendo materia prima de cualquier rito el culto a los antepasados, era inevitable que en las celebraciones más importantes del año (las que cierran un ciclo y abren otro), fuesen éstos los principales protagonistas. Estamos naturalmente en el culto más primitivo, el familiar, el que en Roma se tributará a los Lares, los dioses del hogar, antepasados muy próximos, cuya leyenda tenía mucho de biográfica. Y un paso más cerca de los Lares, los difuntos más recientes de la familia. En la estructura religiosa de Roma, al igual que en las demás religiones, el primer eslabón del más allá, del mundo superior en cuya cima están los dio-

ses, el primer eslabón son los más próximos antepasados. Todo este mundo tenía un poder ilimitado sobre el devenir de los vivientes: desde las primeras obras literarias de nuestra cultura, empezando por la Ilíada y la Odisea, lo tenemos claramente ejemplificado. Eran los dioses y diosecillos los dueños de la vida humana. Por eso era impensable despedir un año e iniciar el siguiente sin contar con los artífices y guías más inmediatos de nuestras vidas: los antepasados. No sólo eso, sino que en la formulación ritual de este culto, éstos pasaban a ser los protagonistas, cediéndoles los vivos sus cuerpos para que viviesen y actuasen en ellos durante estas fiestas. Un simple principio de realismo verosímil y reconocible condujo a acercar todo lo posible la propia figura a la del difunto al que se quería rendir tributo y homenaje cediéndole la propia vida durante esos ritos de renovación y recambio. Se trataba pues de convertirse en otra persona mucho más noble, en general aquella cuyo lugar en la vida se pretendía ocupar. Se esperaba que la más fiel caracterización y la más estricta imitación durante las ceremonias del modelo elegido, obraran la gracia de investir con la personalidad del difunto al que tales ritos celebraban. Recordemos que a la careta que caracterizaba a los actores, los romanos la llamaban persona y los griegos proswpon

(prósopon). Pensemos en la prosopopeya proswpopoiia (prosopoiía) que decían éstos, y que no era más que la caracterización y la representación con personalidades distintas a la propia. Y resulta que esta inclinación tan ancestral no sólo no se extingue, sino que a través de distintas formas se perpetúa. Tendremos que preguntarnos no sólo por el teatro, sino por el cine también, y por la televisión, y por las demás ficciones de la vida; y por tantos juegos de todas clases que nos ofrecen convertirnos en personas distintas. Y en este momento hemos de preguntarnos cuál es la fuerza que mueve tantísimo Carnaval como prolifera en todo el mundo. Los psicoanalistas, y con ellos los sociólogos, antropólogos y demás estudiosos de la humanidad, nos dirán que se trata de una manifestación de nuestro espíritu profundo, que hoy como ayer se purifica transmigrando de personalidad en personalidad; que es necesario por lo menos una vez al año salir de sí mismo, para dejar fuera los miasmas que le intoxican, y volver cada uno de nuevo a sí mismo con la perspectiva de quien ha tenido la oportunidad de mirarse desde fuera. The necessity to disguise ourselves Almost without realising it we go straight from All Saints’ Day to Christmas to New Year’s Eve; and then on to the Carnival. Those three celebrations are linked with: disguises. This common link comes from the fact that during various moments of our calendar’s evolution, those three celebrations corresponded to the end of year. Our current calendar refers less to disguises because it hasn’t yet incorporated this kind of celebrations. But it is going in that direction, as if the strength of our ancestors was utterly pulling us towards those sacred rituals. This being the raw material of any cult ritual of our ancestors, it was inevitable that during the most important celebrations of the year (that close and start the year), those would be the main protagonists. We are naturally dealing with the most primitive ritual, the familiar one, the one that was dedicated to the Lares in Rome, household Gods, very close ancestors, whose legend was rich in biographies. And to be one step closer to the Lares, we turn to those recently deceased in the family. The religious structure in Rome, as in other religions, the first link to what was the furthest away, the superior world on top of which the Gods used to be, this first link are our closest ancestors. This whole world had unlimited power over the living’s destiny: we have perfect examples of it in our culture’s first literature, starting with The Iliad and the Odyssey. Gods used to own human life. This is why it was unconceivable to finish a year or start another without referring to our closest guides in our lives: our ancestors. Furthermore, during those cult rituals, they became protagonists, where the living used to lend their bodies so that they could live and act as them during the celebrations. A simple credible and recognisable principle of reality made people get as close as possible to the appearance of the deceased who they wanted to honour by bringing them back to life during those rituals of renewal and changes. It was about becoming someone else, someone noble, generally someone who we looked up to. It was hoped that the most faithful

representation and strict imitation of this person during those ceremonies, would bring some of the personality of the deceased who was the object of the ritual. What they used to call personification was in fact the characterisation and representation with other personalities than their own. Finally this ancestral inclination has not disappeared and has been perpetuated in various ways. It is not only true for theatre but also at the cinema, on television, and in others life fictions; and in so many games of all kinds that give us the opportunity to become someone else. We now wonder what the

strength behind the worldwide success of Carnival is. Psychoanalysts, sociologists, anthropologists and others studying humanity will say that it is a manifestation of our deep spirit, that today as it did before, cleans itself by going from personality to personality; that it is necessary, at least once per year, to be someone else, to leave behind all the gloom that intoxicates us and come back to being ourselves with the perspective of someone who had the opportunity to see himself from outside. Das Bedürfnis sich zu verkleiden FMHOY - Fuerteventura Fast ohne uns dessen bewusst zu sein, feiern wir erst Allerheiligen, dann Weihnachten und Sylvester und schließlich den Karneval. Diese drei Feste folgen auf einander, weil sie etwas gemein haben: Di Verkleidung. Die Gemeinsamkeit entsteht aufgrund der Tatsache, dass zu verschiedenen Zeitpunkten der Entwicklung unseres Kalenders diese drei Feste mit dem Jahresende zusammen fielen. Und von den drei Jahresenden ist das jüngste das des aktuellen Kalenderjahres. Es ist das Fest, bei dem die Verkleidungen die geringste Bedeutung haben, da die entsprechenden Riten den dazu gehörigen Feierlichkeiten nicht einverleibt wurden. Aber es bewegt sich in diese Richtung, als ob uns die Kraft unserer Vorfahren unerbittlich zu diesen heiligen Riten zieht. Da bei jedem Ritual die Verehrung der Vorfahren im Mittelpunkt steht, war es unvermeidbar, dass diese bei den wichtigsten Veranstaltungen des Jahres, die Zyklen beginnen und abschließen, die Hauptpersonen waren. Dies betrifft natürlich den primitivsten Kult, den familiären, der in Rom den Laren, den Hausgöttern, gewidmet ist. Dies waren sehr nahe Vorfahren, deren Legende sehr biographisch war. Kurz nach den Laren kamen die kürzlich Verstorbenen der Familie. In der religiösen Struktur Roms sind diese, genau wie in den übrigen Religionen, das erste Glied des Jenseits, der höheren Welt, an deren Gipfel sich die Götter befinden. Das erste Glied sind die Vorfahren. Diese Welt besaß uneingeschränkte Macht über das Schicksal der Lebenden: Die ersten literarischen Werke unserer Kultur, angefangen mit der Illias und der Odyssee, liefern uns eindeutige Beispiele dafür. Die Götter und kleinen Gottheiten waren die Herren des menschlichen Lebens. Deshalb war es unmöglich, ohne die nächsten Schöpfer und Führer des menschlichen Lebens – die

Dazu kommt die rituelle Form dieses Kultes, wo die Vorfahren zu den Hauptpersonen wurden, denen die Lebenden ihre Körper liehen, damit diese während dieses Festes leben und handeln konnten. Ein einfacher Anfang dieses glaubhaften und erkennbaren Realismus führte die Lebenden dazu

alles zu tun, um den Verstorbenen zu ähneln, welche man ehren wollte, indem man ihnen in diesen Erneuerungsritualen den eigenen Körper lieh. So wurde man zu einer höher stehenden Person, normalerweise zu der, deren Platz man im wirklichen Leben zu besetzen beanspruchte. Man erwartete während dieser Zeremonien die bestmögliche Darstellung und genaue Imitation des gewählten Modells. Während der Riten stellten die Lebenden die Persönlichkeit des Verstorbenen dar. Wir erinnern daran, dass die Maske der Schauspieler von den Römern Person genant wurde und von den Griechen proswpon (prósopon). Wir denken an die proswpopoiia (prosopoiía), die diese sprachen sagten. Das war nichts anderes als die Charakterisierung und Darstellung von Personen, die man nicht selbst war. Diese uralte Neigung ist nicht nur unauslöschlich, sondern lebt in verschiedenen Formen weiter. Wir werden uns nicht nur nach dem Theater fragen müssen, sondern auch nach dem Fernsehen und den übrigen Fiktionen des Lebens; das betrifft alle Arten von Spielen, bei denen wir zu anderen Personen werden. Nun müssen wir uns fragen, welche Kraft einen großen Karneval in der ganzen Welt bewegt. Die Psychoanalytiker sowie die Soziologen, Anthropologen und übrigen Menschenforscher werden uns sagen, dass er ein Ausdruck unserer innersten Seele ist, die sich heute wie früher reinigt, indem sie von Personalität zu Personalität wechselt. Sie werden uns auch mitteilen, dass es notwenig ist, mindestens einmal im Jahr aus uns heraus zu gehen, um die giftigen Miasmen hinter uns zu lassen und dann wieder in uns selbst zurückzukehren. ¿Y SI HUBIERA ALGUNA EJECUCIÓN ANTERIOR SOBRE LOS BIENES DE LA CONCURSADA? Declarado el concurso, no podrán iniciarse ejecuciones singulares, judiciales o extrajudiciales, ni seguirse apremios administrativos o tributarios contra el patrimonio del deudor. Podrán continuarse aquellos procedimientos administrativos de ejecución en los que se hubiera dictado providencia de apremio y las ejecuciones laborales en las que se hubieran embargado bienes del concursado, todo ello con anterioridad a la fecha de declaración del concurso, siempre que los bienes objeto de embargo no resulten necesarios para la continuidad de la actividad profesional o empresarial del deudor. Las actuaciones que se hallaran en tramitación quedarán en suspenso desde la fecha de declaración de concurso, sin perjuicio del tratamiento concursal que corresponda dar a los respectivos créditos. Las actuaciones que se practiquen en contravención de lo establecido en los párrafos anteriores serán nulas de pleno derecho. Los acreedores con garantía real sobre bienes del concursado afectos a su actividad profesional o empresarial o a una unidad productiva de su titulari-

El ejercicio de acciones que se inicie o se reanude conforme a lo previsto en párrafos anteriores durante la tramitación del concurso se someterá a la jurisdicción del juez de éste, quien a instancia de parte decidirá sobre su procedencia y, en su caso, acordará su tramitación en pieza separada, acomodando las actuaciones a las normas propias del procedimiento judicial o extrajudicial que corresponda. Iniciadas o reanudadas las actuaciones, no podrán ser suspendidas por razón de vicisitudes propias del concurso. Abierta la fase de liquidación, los acreedores que antes de la declaración de concurso no hubieran ejercitado estas acciones perderán el derecho de hacerlo en procedimiento separado. Las actuaciones que hubieran quedado suspendidas como consecuencia de la declaración de concurso se reanudarán, acumulándose al procedimiento de ejecución colectiva como pieza separada.

COMIENZAN LAS OBRAS DE REMODELACIÓN INTEGRAL DE LA PLAZA «RAFAEL PÁEZ»

La plaza de Rafael Páez, situada en la confluencia de las calles León y Castillo y Tenerife, será intervenida a partir de estos días y por unos 4 meses, tiempo previsto para finalizar los trabajos, en base a un proyecto de remodelación integral de este enclave de ocio urbano. La iniciativa forma parte del Plan de Dinamización Turística de la capital y pretende dotar a esta plaza, de unos 1200 m² de un nuevo espacio de ocio familiar, para lo que se renovará el pavimento, el mobiliario y todo el ajardinamiento. Las últimas actuaciones del Plan de Dinamización Turística de Puerto del Rosario, cofinanciado entre el Ministerio de Turismo, Consejería de Turismo del Gobierno de Canarias y el Ayuntamiento capitalino, han sido el adecentamiento, embellecimiento y dotación del entorno de la Playa de Los Pozos, las mejoras en los accesos a Puerto del Rosario y la iluminación del Parque Escultórico, entre otras.

THE TOTAL RESTRUCTURING WORK ON PLAZA RAFAEL PÁEZ IS UNDER WAY

Plaza Rafael Páez situated at the junction between Calle León y Castillo and Calle Tenerife will start being restructured imminently. The Restructuring work is due to take 4 months according to the project of total restructuring of this urban leisure area. This initiative is part of the Plan of Tourism Dynamism of the capital and will bring to this 1200 m² square a new family leisure space where the ground surface, the urban furniture and gardens will be changed. Other initiatives of the Plan of Tourism Dynamism of Puerto Rosario, which is co-financed by the Tourism Ministry, the Tourism Council of the Canarian Government and the capital’s Ayuntamiento, included improving and embellishing Playa de Los Pozos, improving the access ways into Puerto del Rosario and bringing illumination in the Parque Escultórico, to name a few.

Diese Initiative gehört zu dem Plan für die Dynamisierung des Tourismus in der Hauptstadt und beabsichtigt, diesen ungefähr 1200 m² großen Platz mit einem Bereich auszustatten, wo Familien ihre Freizeit verbringen können. Zu diesem Zweck werden der Boden, die Ausstattung und die Bepflanzung erneuert. Die letzten Eingriffe des Plans für die Dynamisierung des Tourismus in Puerto del Rosario, die vom Ministerium für Tourismus, dem Amt für Tourismus der Regierung der Kanaren und Stadtregierung der Hauptstadt finanziert wurden, bestanden unter anderem aus der Herrichtung, Verschönerung und Ausstattung der Umgebung der Playa de Los Pozos, der Verbesserung der Zufahrten nach Puerto del Rosario und der Beleuchtungen des Skulpturparks.

EL AYUNTAMIENTO REPARTE FRUTALES A LOS TITULARES DE EXPLOTACIONES AGRÍCOLAS

Zweck dieser Initiative ist die Pflanzung von mehr Feigenbäumen, Johannisbrotbäumen und Granatbäumen in dem Ort. Wer an dieser Kampagne, die jedes Jahr durchgeführt ist, interessiert ist, muss ein Antragsformular ausfüllen, das man im Hauptsitz der Gemeinde von Pájara sowie in den Bezirksbürgermeisterämtern von Morro Jable, La Lajita und/oder Costa Calma erhält. Die Besitzer von landwirtschaftlichen Betrieben müssen ein spezielles Formular ausfüllen und dann zu den Einrichtungen der Aula der Natur von Pájara gehen, wo sie an Werktagen von 12.00 bis 13.00 Uhr die Obstbäume abholen können. Jeder Besitzer eines landwirtschaftlichen Betriebes erhält höchstens drei Exemplare von jeder Art. Diese Kampagne, an der das Amt für Landwirtschaft des Cabildo von Fuerteventura mitwirkt, läuft solange der Vorrat reicht.

EL AYUNTAMIENTO DE PÁJARA INSTRUYE A NIÑOS Y NIÑAS EN IGUALDAD

El Ayuntamiento de Pájara ha puesto en marcha la campaña anual de reparto de frutales entre los titulares de explotaciones agrícolas de la localidad. Esta iniciativa busca el sembrado de más higueras, algarrobos (farrogueros) y granados en la localidad. Los interesados en beneficiarse de esta campaña, que se realiza todos los años, deben cumplimentar una solicitud, que pueden obtener en la sede central del Ayuntamiento de Pájara o en las tenencias de alcaldía de Morro Jable, La Lajita y/o Costa Calma. Después de rellenar el formulario, un modelo de declaración responsable, los titulares de explotaciones agrícolas deberán acudir a las instalaciones del Aula de la Naturaleza de Pájara, donde podrán retirar, de 12.00 a 13.00 horas, durante los días laborables, los frutales. A cada titular de explotación agraria se le entregarán, como máximo, tres ejemplares de cada variedad. La campaña, en la que colabora la Consejería de Agricultura del Cabildo Insular de Fuerteventura, finalizará cuando se acaben las existencias.

La concejalía de Servicios Sociales del Ayuntamiento de Pájara, a través de su Departamento de la Mujer, ha puesto en marcha un programa co-educativo para instruir a niños y niñas de ocho años de edad en materia de igualdad. Esta propuesta, impartida por una de las trabajadoras sociales del Ayuntamiento de Pájara, llegará a 115 alumnos y alumnas de 3º de Primaria de cinco colegios del municipio, los de Pájara, Cardón, Costa Calma, La Lajita y Morro Jable. El concejal responsable, Pedro Armas Romero, explica que se trata de sensibilizar a menores sobre la importancia de la igualdad de oportunidades y derechos entre hombres y mujeres y niños y niñas. PÁJARA’S AYUNTAMIENTO TEACHES CHILDREN ABOUT EQUALITY

The Social Services Council of the Ayuntamiento of Pájara, through the Women’s Department, has organised an educational programme in order to teach eight year old children about equality. This initiative carried out by one of the social workers of Pájara’s Ayuntamiento will meet 115 school children in five schools of the Municipality in Pájara, Cardón, Costa Calma, La Lajita and Morro Jable. The councillor in charge, Pedro Armas Romero, explains that this initiative aims to raise awareness amongst children about the importance of equality of opportunities and rights between men and women and young boys and young girls. The tools used in this initiative that consists of three to six one hour sessions, vary from a ball to a didactic folder distributed to each child where they will file various cards and exercises. Close collaboration with the tteaching eaching staf stafff The design of the programme has been created by the Ayuntamiento’s Women’s Department and it also deals with activities aimed at self respect and with conflicts. Dieses Programm, die von einer der Sozialarbeiterin der Gemeinde von Pájara unterrichtet wird, wird bei 115 Schülern und Schülerinnen der dritten Grundschulklasse der Gemeinde ankommen, aus Pájara, Cardón, Costa Calma, La Lajita und Morro Jable. Der Verantwortliche Politiker, Pedro Armas Romero, erklärt, dass es darum geht, die Minderjährigen dafür zu sensibilisieren, wie wichtig gleiche Möglichkeiten und Rechte für Männer und Frauen sowie für Jungen und Mädchen sind. El Ayuntamiento felicita a Casa Marcos y Tío Bernabé «por su profesionalidad y dedicación» y recuerda que a partir del 1 de febrero se podrán degustar las tapas y menús premiados El Mesón Canario Tío Bernabé y el Bar Gastronómico Casa Marcos han sido los establecimientos ganadores del I Concurso Gastronómico de Fuerteventura, en las modalidades de menú y tapas respectivamente, organizado por el Cabildo de Fuerteventura. Restaurantes, bares y cafeterías de toda la Isla han participado en la convocatoria en la que han resultado los más valorados dos establecimientos del municipio de La Oliva lo que, demuestra, una vez más, la profesionalidad y dedicación del sector de la restauración en el municipio. La propuesta de Tío Bernabé consiste en un primer plato compuesto de tomate salobre majorero relleno de queso ahumado con vinagreta y frutos secos. El menú se completa con un plato de lomos de cherne confitados con pisto de temporada y papas crujientes y un postre de plátanos de Canarias con mus de piña de El Hierro caramelizada con almíbar de moras. En la modalidad de tapas, Casa Marcos logró el primer puesto con una creación de carpaccio de langostinos y gulas con tosta de maíz dulce y salmón marinado. Las personas que quieran degustar estas propuestas podrán hacerlo a partir del 1 de febrero, acudiendo a Corralejo, si es que quieren probar el menú ganador, o a Villaverde, en el caso de las tapas.

BOTH ESTABLISHMENTS THAT WON FUERTEVENTURA’S GASTRONOMY COMPETITION BELONG TO THIS MUNICIPALITY The Ayuntamiento congratulates Casa Marcos and Tío Bernabé «for their professionalism and dedication» and adds that from 1st February the winning tapas and menus will be available for sampling. The Mesón Canario Tío Bernabé and the Bar Gastronomico Marcos won Fuerteventura’s First Gastronomy Competition in the menu and tapas categories that was organised by Fuerteventura’s Cabildo.

Restaurants and bars from the whole island participated in this competition in which both winning establishments came from La Oliva’s municipality which demonstrates once more the professionalism and dedication of this industry in the Municipality. Tío Barnabé’s menu consisted in a starter made of Majorero salted tomatoes stuffed with smoked cheese served with a vinaigrette and dry fruit. The menu was completed with Stone Bass served with a seasonal ratatouille and crispy potatoes and finally a desert of Canarian bananas with a Pineapple Mousse caramelised with blackberry syrup. In the Tapas category, Casa Marcos won the first prize with a creation of king prawn carpaccio with baby eel on sweet corn toast and marinated salmon. Those who would like to sample those dishes can do so from the 1st February in Corralejo for the winning menu and in Villaverde for the tapas.

Restaurants, Bars und Cafes aus der ganzen Insel haben an diesem Wettbewerb teilgenommen, bei dem die beiden Niederlassungen aus La Oliva am besten bewertet wurden. Dies beweist die Professionalität und die Hingabe dieser Branche in der Gemeinde. Das Angebot von Tío Bernabé besteht aus einem ersten Gang aus einer gesalzenen Tomate aus Fuerteventura, die mit geräuchertem Käse gefüllt ist, mit Vinaigrette und trockenen Früchten. Das Menü wird durchein Gericht aus kandiertem Wrackbarsch mit Gemüse der Saison und knusprigen Kartoffeln und einen Nachtisch aus kanarischen Bananen mit Ananasmus aus El Hierro ergänzt, das mit Brombeerkompott karamellisiert wird. Im Bereich Tapas bekam Casa Marcos den ersten Preis für die Erfindung des Carpaccio aus Shrimps und Glasaalen mit Tost aus süßem Mais und mariniertem Lachs. El consejero de Presidencia del Gobierno de Canarias, José Miguel Ruano, entregó el pasado 22 de diciembre, en Tegueste (Tenerife), la distinción que premia a la institución majorera por haber logrado el tercer puesto en la convocatoria Premios Institucionales de Canarias, certamen que organiza anualmente el Ejecutivo regional con la intención de potenciar los símbolos de identidad de Canarias, es decir, el escudo, el himno y la bandera. El Ayuntamiento participó en la convocatoria proponiendo la procesión de la Virgen del Buen Viaje, de El

Cotillo, como manifestación lúdica y cultural que contribuye a potenciar y difundir los colores de la bandera canaria. Y es que, tal y como explica la concejala de Festejos, «la ornamentación floral que siempre acompaña a la Virgen ofrecía, el pasado mes de agosto, una imagen preciosa en tonos blanco, azul y amarillo, recreando la tonalidad de nuestra bandera». Las imágenes de la función religiosa que cada año convoca a cientos de personas en El Cotillo lograron por tanto, ser finalistas de un certamen en el que concurren instituciones, empresas privadas y públicas y también particulares de toda la Comunidad autónoma.

THE PRESIDENT HONOURS THE AYUNTAMIENTO AS A FINALIST IN THE ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE CANARIES’ INSTITUTIONAL AWARDS

The Councillor, Margarita Santana received the award on behalf of the Municipal Institution in Tenerife. The Councillor of the Canarian Government’s Presidency, José Miguel Ruano, presented the award on 22nd December in Tegueste (Tenerife) to the Majorero institution for the third prize in the Canaries Institutional Awards, which is a competition organised every year by the regional Government in order to promote Canarian Identity symbols which are the coat of arms, the national anthem and the flag. The Ayuntamiento participated in the competition with the procession of Virgen del Buen Viaje of El Cotillo, as a recreational and cultural event that contributes to promoting the colours of the Canarian flag. As the Events councillor explains, «last August, the floral ornamentation that was exhibited with the Virgin, was a beautiful display in white, blue and yellow tones that reproduced the tones of our flag». The pictures of the religious manifestation that brings hundreds of people

in El Cotillo every year therefore became finalist in the competition where institutions, private and public companies and individuals of the whole autonomous Community take part.

Die Politikerin Margarita Santana nahm auf Teneriffa als Vertretung der Gemeinde die Anerkennung entgegen. Der Beauftragte für „Presidencia» der Regierung der Kanaren, José Miguel Ruano, übergab am 22. Dezember in Tegueste (Teneriffa) den Preis, welcher die Institution aus Fuerteventura mit dem dritten Platz beim Wettbewerb der institutionellen Preise der Kanaren auszeichnet. Dieser Wettbewerb wird jedes Jahr von der regionalen Regierung organisiert, um die Symbole, die die Identität der Kanaren verkörpern, zu stärken. Das heißt, das Wappen, die Hymne und die Fahne. Die Gemeinde nahm an dem Wettbewerb teil und schlug die Prozession der Virgen del Buen Viaje (heilige Jungfrau der guten Reise) aus El Cotillo als spielerische und kulturelle Darbietung vor, die dazu beiträgt, die Farben der kanarischen Fahne zu stärken und zu verbreiten. Die Beauftragte für Feste erklärt, «der Blumenschmuck, der die Jungfrau immer begleitet, war im August letzten Jahres wunderschön, ein Bild in weiß, blau und gelb, wodurch die Farben unserer Fahne wieder geschaffen wurden». Die Bilder des religiösen Schauspiels, zu dem sich jedes Jahr hunderte von Personen in El Cotillo versammeln, schafften es, Finalisten eines Wettbewerbs zu werden, an dem Institutionen sowie private und öffentliche Unternehmen aus der ganzen autonomen Region teilnehmen.

Nuevo Restaurante Miramar en Esquinzo Beach Hotel FMHOY - Fuerteventura El Esquinzo Beach Hotel, dentro de su nuevo plan de renovación y actualización, ha abierto las puertas de su recién inaugurado Restaurante Miramar a todos los residentes de Fuerteventura. Con este motivo hemos querido conversar con su directora Andrea Nestle, para que nos amplíe esta información. ¿Cómo surge la idea de este nuevo restaurante dentro del hotel? Queríamos ofrecer a nuestros clientes una opción diferente al típico buffet, dándole un estilo diferente, un servicio en mesa y una selección de alimentos y vinos de alta calidad. Andrea ¿desde cuando esta abierto al público este nuevo restaurante? Desde final de noviembre, aunque todavía tenemos pendiente de ultimar algunos detalles importantes, como es terminar la confección de un calendario culinario, en el que habrá cada mes con fechas fijas o especiales como por ejemplo San Valentín, una oferta diferente. El acceso al restaurante Miramar, ¿es a través de la recepción o tiene puerta separada? Esta situado en el primer piso del hotel, atravesando la recepción; quiero hacer hincapié, en que invitamos a todo el mundo, turistas o residentes de la isla a conocernos, ya que ofrecemos un lugar moderno y acogedor que conjuga una gastronomía depurada con un entorno muy bello. desde las 6:30 de la tarde hasta el último servicio de cocina, que es a las 10:30 de la noche, los siete días de la semana. Hablando de gastronomía, ¿qué tipo de cocina ofrecen? Básicamente mediterránea, y muy especializada en frutos del mar, pero hemos unido dos chefs de muy diferentes tendencias para poder llegar a todos los paladares. Uno es de origen alemán y otro canario. ¿Es conveniente que la gente haga su reserva antes de venir? Aunque no es indispensable, siempre es mejor que contacten con nosotros en el 928 544100 para darles un mejor servicio. ¿Pueden dar servicio de cenas de grupo, para empresas, celebraciones, etc.? Sí, estaremos encantados de ofrecerles algo especial en cada caso. Vemos que tienen un bar que da acceso al restaurante ¿Cómo funciona, es independiente? Sí, es un bar de aperitivos en el que antes o después de cenar también pueden pasar un tiempo cómodamente. ¿Podemos preguntar por el nivel de precios del restaurante? Estamos en una franja de precios que es accesible a cualquier bolsillo. Bien, pues solo nos queda recordarles a nuestros lectores, que el Esquinzo Beach Hotel, es el primer hotel a la derecha al entrar en la desviación para Butihondo de la carretera general. ¡No se pierdan, vale la pena llegar!

New Miramar Restaurant in Esquinzo Beach Hotel FMHOY - Fuerteventura The Esquinzo Beach Hotel, as part of its new renovation and refurbishment plan, has recently inaugurated its new Miramar Restaurant. This was the opportunity for us to meet with the director Andrea Nestle to get more details. How did you get the idea of this new restaurant within the hotel?

We wanted to offer our clients a wider choice than the typical buffet, with a different style, table service and a selection of high quality food and wine. Andrea, how long has this new restaurant been opened to the public? It opened at the end of November, although some important details are still pending to be completed, such as a culinary calendar that will have special dates every month, such as Valentine’s Day for example, with special offers. Is the access to Miramar Restaurant through the reception or is there a separate entrance? It is situated on the hotel’s first floor, through the hotel reception; I would like to add that we invite everyone, both tourists and residents of the island to come and take a look around. We offer a modern and welcoming space that combines refined gastronomy in beautiful settings. We only open for diners, from 6.30 p.m. until the kitchen closes at 10.30 p.m. seven days a week. Speaking about gastronomy, what type of cuisine do you have on offer? Mainly Mediterranean, and we specialise in seafood, but our chefs have quite different backgrounds and we can please most palates. One is German and the

other is Canarian. Is it advisable for people to reserve a table before coming? Although it is not indispensable, it is always better to call us first on 928 544 400 so that we can provide a better service. Can you organise diners for groups, companies, celebrations, etc? Yes, we would be delighted to organise something special for any occasion. We can see that there is a bar that leads into the restaurant, is it independent? We are situated in a price range that is accessible to everyone. Das neue Restaurant Miramar im Esquinzo Beach Hotel FMHOY - Fuerteventura Das Esquinzo Beach Hotel hat im Rahmen seines neuen Erneuerungs- und Renovierungsplans die Tore seines kürzlich eröffneten Restaurants Miramar für alle Bewohner von Fuerteventura geöffnet. Wir haben uns mit der Hoteldirektorin Andrea Nestle unterhalten, um uns von ihr genauer informieren zu lassen. Wie entstand die Idee, dieses neu Restaurant in dem Hotel zu eröffnen? Wir wollten unseren Gästen etwas anderes bieten als das typische Buffet, einen anderen Stil mit Bedienung sowie hochwertigen Speisen und Getränken. Andrea, wann wurde dieses Restaurant eröffnet? Ende November. Wir müssen jedoch noch einige Kleinigkeiten fertig stellen. Dazu gehört der kulinarische Kalender, den es jeden Monat neu geben wird. Es wird feste und besondere Termine gegeben, zu denen unter anderem der Valentinstag gehört. An diesen Tagen wird es ein anderes Angebot geben. Kommt man durch die Rezeption in das Restaurant Miramar oder hat es eine eigene Tür? Es ist im ersten Stock des Hotels. Man geht durch die Rezeption; Ich möchte darauf hinweisen, dass wir alle Touristen und Einheimschen auffordern uns kennenzulernen. «El Club cuenta ya con 37 niños federados» FMHOY - Fuerteventura Trabaja en la Piscina Municipal de Puerto del Rosario, para la empresa privada que tiene la explotación. Es socorrista y monitor infantil en la tarde, pero sobre todo es un gran amante de la natación. ¿Desde cuándo esa afición? Fui nadador, durante veinte años del club Metropole; desde el año 67 hasta el 87. He participado en 18 campeonatos de España absolutos, fui campeón de España de categoría infantil y juvenil y he sido cinco veces internacional; también el año pasado estuve en el campeonato Máster, fui campeón en mi categoría (45 a 50 años ), en fin sigo estando en el deporte de la natación. ¿Es natural de Fuerteventura? No, soy de Las Palmas, mis padres nos traían de vacaciones a esta isla y siempre me enamoró y a la primera oportunidad que tuve en el año 1993 me vine a vivir aquí. ¿Cómo nace el club de natación Las Escuevas y porque ese nombre? El nombre viene porque a la playa que hay en el muelle, la gente de aquí la llamaba así antiguamente y nos gustó para nuestro club, y fundar el club nace de la idea de que, llegado al nivel más alto de los cursillos que es el nivel rojo, había una necesidad de motivar a los niños para que no abandonaran la natación y fue entonces cuando me surgió la idea de crear un club de natación federado, con todos los problemas que eso conllevaba, ya que en Fuerteventura la natación como deporte no existía.

Luego los Infantiles que ya tienen hasta 15 años y los Juniors que comienzan en 16 años. ¿Así que Fuerteventura ya tiene 37 potenciales campeones? No pretendo hacer campeones, la idea principal es que se motiven a continuar con el deporte de la natación, que hagan amigos, que lo pasen bien y que estudien, que es una de las condiciones que yo les pongo. También es bueno que estén menos en la calle, el deporte aleja de otras malas costumbres... Sí, efectivamente suelen tener mejores actitudes y menos malos hábitos.

Pedí ayuda a los padres y sólo una madre, Mª del Carmen Cabrera, auténtica artífice de este club, (si no hubiera sido por ella difícilmente este existiría) me apoyo en todo lo necesario. Conseguimos darnos de alta en el Gobierno de Canarias y luego federamos a todos los niños y ya en octubre del año pasado comenzamos a funcionar. Al no haber aquí competiciones por falta de otros clubs, tuvimos que desplazarnos a Las Palmas para competir con nuestros niños. Y de todos esos desplazamientos, ¿se encarga el club?

Imagínese el costo de desplazarse unas catorce veces a la otra isla con comidas, y estancias en seis de ellas, para un grupo de 20 niños que eran en aquel momento nuestros componentes federados. En este segundo año hemos conseguido un patrocinador, la empresa de construcción Guillenman y gracias a ella y a las pocas subvenciones que tenemos del Cabildo y el Ayuntamiento hemos podido continuar esta segunda andadura, pues realmente sin dinero era muy difícil continuar. En la actualidad el Club de Natación ha crecido y ya son 37 los niños de diferentes edades que tenemos federados.

«There are already 37 children from the Club registered with the Federation» FMHOY - Fuerteventura He Works at the Municipal Swimming-pool of Puerto del Rosario, for the private company that runs it. He is a lifeguard and children’s instructor in the evening, but above all he is a great swimming enthusiast. When did you become a swimming adept? I was a professional swimmer for twenty years at Club Metropole; between 1967 and 1987. I participated in 18 championships in Spain; I was national infant and junior champion and international champion five times; last year I also competed in the Master’s championship and I am the champion in my category (45 to 50 years old), all in all I have always been involved in this sport. Are you from Fuerteventura? No, I come from Las Palmas, my parents used to bring us here for holidays and I fell in love with the place, so at the first opportunity I moved here, which was in 1993. How was the swimming Club Las Escuevas created and why this name? The name comes from the beach in the harbour that people used to call Las Escuevas, which we felt was appropriate for the club. The club was created from the idea that once children had reached the highest level of swimming lessons, which is the red level, there was still a need to motivate them so that they would not abandon swimming. Therefore I decided to create a Federate Swimming Club, despite the problems that it entailed because swimming as a sport did not exist in Fuerteventura. I asked help from parents and only one mother, Mª del Carmen Cabrera, came forward. She is

Government and later we registered all the children with the Federation, finally in October last year the club was in place. There aren’t any competitions here because we are the only Club on the Island therefore we had to go to Las Palmas to get the children of our Club to compete. What about those trips, does the Club take care of them? You can imagine the cost of getting 20 children to the other island about fourteen times including food and accommodation for six trips. For this second year, we have managed to get sponsored by the construction company Guillenman and thanks to them and the few subventions that we get from the Cabildo and the Ayuntamiento, we have managed to continue for another year, but truthfully it is very difficult to continue without money. At present the Swimming Club is growing and already 37 children of various ages are registered with the Federation. We are in the territorial league in the junior category and in Pre-junior category, for 8 years old children, then the under 16 category and the over 16 category. So, Fuerteventura already has 37 potential champions? I don’t plan on making them champions; the main idea is to keep them motivated to continue with this sport, to make friends, have fun and study, this is one of the conditions that I do impose. It is also good for them not to be in the street so much, sport keeps them away from bad habits… Yes, that is true, they tend to be better behaved and have less bad habits.

Auch im vergangenen Jahr habe ich an der Máster-Meisterschaft teilgenommen und wurde Meister meiner Kategorie (45 bis 50 Jahre), ich betreibe diesen Sport immer noch. Sind Sie aus Fuerteventura? Nein, ich komme aus Las Palmas. Meine Eltern brachten uns in den Ferien auf diese Insel, und ich war immer von ihr begeistert. Als 1993 die erste Gelegenheit bekam, zog ich hier her. Wie entstand der Schwimmclub Las Escuevas, und was bedeutet sein Name? Der Name kommt daher, dass die Menschen früher den Strand am Kai so nannten und uns gefiel dieser Name für unseren Club. Wir gründeten den Club, da das höchste Niveau der Kurse das rote ist und die Kinder motiviert werden musste, nicht mit dem Schwimmen aufzuhören. Damals hatte ich die Idee, einen föderierten Schwimmclub zu gründen, obwohl

dies mit vielen Problemen verbunden war, da auf Fuerteventura kein Interesse am Schwimmsport bestand. Ich bat die Eltern um Hilfe, und nur eine Mutter, Maria del Carmen Cabrera, die wirkliche Schöpferin dieses Clubs, (ohne sie würde er wahrscheinlich nicht existieren) unterstütze mich ganz und gar. Wir schafften es, von der Regierung der Kanaren anerkannt zu werden, und dann organisierten wir die Kinder. Im Oktober des vergangenen Jahres begannen wir mit unseren Aktivitäten. Hier fanden keine Wettkämpfe statt, denn wir sind der einzige Club,

deshalb mussten wir nach Las Palmas gehen, um unsere Kinder kämpfen zu lassen. Bezahlt der Club all diese Reisen? Stellen Sie sich vor mit einer Gruppe von 20 Kindern, die damals unsere föderalen Komponenten waren, vierzehn Mal zu der anderen Insel zu fahren, einschließlich Essen und sechs Aufenthalten. In diesem zweiten Jahr haben wir es geschafft, einen Sponsor zu finden, das Bauunternehmen Guillenman, dank ihm und den wenigen Subventionen, die wir vom Cabildo und der Gemeinde bekommen, konnten wir auch in diesem, unserem zweiten Jahr, weiter machen. Ich beanspruche nicht, Meister zu erzeugen, mir geht es hauptsächlich darum, die Kinder zu motivieren, mit dem Schwimmsport weiter zu machen, Freundschaften zu schließen, sich zu amüsieren und sich zu verbessern: Das sind die Bedingungen, die ich stelle. Es ist auch gut, dass die Kinder so weniger Zeit auf der Straße verbringen und der Sport sie von schlechten Lebensgewohnheiten fern hält... Ja, sie haben normalerweise ein besseres Verhalten und weniger schlechte Angewohnheiten.

Desfile de moda de nueva diseñadora local FMHOY - Fuerteventura El pasado mes de diciembre hizo su debut, en Costa Calma, la joven diseñadora Julia Ruâ, presentando sus nuevos y exclusivos diseños en un original desfile celebrado en el restaurante Posada de San Borondón. La diseñadora de origen alemán, pero afincada en la isla desde hace seis años, realiza diseños exclusivos hechos a mano íntegramente por ella, sin más ayuda que su propia creatividad y basándose en un ecléctico estilo de cultural urbana, como el punk, hippie o retro, mezclándolos todo de manera armoniosa; algo totalmente innovador y que ha causado en el público asistente una gran aceptación. Por este motivo en el próximo mes de marzo la diseñadora volverá a realizar otro desfile, esta vez en Jandía, con nuevos diseños, pensados más para el verano, llenos de colores refrescantes y juveniles.

Fashion show of a new local designer The young designer Julia Ruâ made her debut last December in Costa Calma, when she presented her new and exclusive designs in a unique fashion show that took place in the Posada de San Borondón restaurant. The designer, of German origins, has lived on the island for six years; she hand makes all of her creations, using purely her own creativity based on an eclectic urban style culture such as punk, hippie or retro, mixing it all in a harmonious manner. This innovative design has been greatly accepted by the public, which is why the designer will organise another fashion show in March, in Jandia this time, with new summery designs, full of refreshing colours.

Im Dezember fand in Costa Calma das Debüt der jungen Designerin Julia Ruâ statt, die ihre neuen und exklusiven Modelle in einer originellen Modenschau präsentierte, die in einem Restaurant in San Borondón stattfand. Die deutsche Designerin, die seit sechs Jahren auf der Insel lebt, stellt ihre exklusiven Designs selbst manuell her. Ihre einzige Hilfe ist ihre eigene Kreativität. Sie hat einen eklektischen Stadtkultur-Stil, der von den Punks, den Hippies und dem Retro-Look beeinflusst ist, wobei all diese Stile auf harmonische Weise vermischt werden. Dieser Stil ist ganz neu und wurde vom Publikum gut aufgenommen. Deshalb wird die Designerin im März eine weitere Modenschau organisieren, die diesmal in Jandía stattfindet. Dort wird sie neue Sommerkollektion vorstellen, die voller erfrischender und jugendlicher Farben sein wird.

AL GARR OBO ALG ARROBO Ceratonia siliqua L. NOMBRE-s VULGAR-es: Algarrobero. Farrobo. Garrofo. Garrobo FAMILIA: CAESALPINIACEAE ALGO DE LA HISTORIA DE LA PLANTA Ceratonia proviene de la palabra griega «ceras» que significa «cuerno», en clara alusión a la forma del fruto de este árbol. Cuenta Viera y Clavijo que: «Este era aquél manjar del cual el hijo pródigo, como dice San Lucas, al verse afligido por el hambre, deseaba comer como los puercos…y como este árbol abunda en las inmediaciones de Jerusalén, han creído que en él se ahorcó el traidor discípulo y se le llamó después Árbol de Judas». También en la tradición católica se cree que éste fue el alimento de San Juan cuando estaba solo en el desierto por lo que en algunos lugares se conoce al algarrobo como «pan de san Juan». Su consumo fue alto en la península y también en Canarias durante la guerra y la posguerra civil española debido a la escasez de alimentos. DESCRIPCIÓN Árbol de hasta 6 metros de altura, en ocasiones hasta 10 metros; copa amplia y tronco ancho, robusto, de corteza gris y agrietada; ramas algo torcidas; hojas compuestas de hasta cuatro a cinco pares de hojuelas o foliolos ovalados, de bordes curvos, algo coriáceas, verde brillantes por el haz y mates en el envés; inflorescencias agrupadas en racimos, poco vistosas; sus frutos son una especie de vainas verdes, a marrón oscuras al madurar, alargadas y aplastadas, como cuernos, que contienen pulpa y semillas pequeñas, también de color marrón oscuro y muy duras. ORIGEN Y ECOLOGÍA Proviene de Siria y Palestina, de donde se ha extendido a los países mediterráneos hasta España. También se encuentran algunas variedades en países de América. Introducida en Canarias. No amenazada. LOCALIZACIÓN Se trata de un árbol que se adapta bien a nuestro clima y podemos encontrarlo asilvestrado en lechos de barrancos no muy alejados de la costa en las islas de: C, T, P, G, H. CAROB TREE Ceratonia siliqua L.

COMMON NAME: Carob Tree. FAMILIA: CAESALPINIACEAE A BIT OF HISTORY ABOUT THE PLANT Ceratonia comes from the Greek Word «ceras» that means «horn», that clearly makes allusion to shape of the tree’s fruit. Viera and Clavijo said that «This was the food that the prodigy child, as Saint Lucas said, who was suffering from hunger, decided to eat as pigs do…and as this tree abounded in the vicinity of Jerusalem, they believed that this was the tree where the traitor disciple hung himself and was later called Judas’ Tree». The catholic tradition also says that this was the food that St John ate while he was alone in the desert and in some places this tree is known as «St John’s bread». Its consumption was quite popular on the Peninsula and in the Canaries during the Spanish civil war and post-war times because of the scarcity of food. DESCRIPTION The tree can measure up to 6 metres in height and on occasions up to 10 metres; its top is large, the trunk wide, robust, the bark is grey and cracked; branches are twisted; leaves are made of four or five pairs of smaller oval leaves, their edges are curved, shiny green on the top and mat underneath; the flowers are in bunches, not very attractive; the fruits are shaped like green pods that become brown as they mature, they are elongated and squashed, like horns and contain pulp and small seeds, that are also brown and very hard. ORIGINS AND ECOLOGY It comes from Syria and Palestine, and extended to Mediterranean countries until Spain. Some varieties can also be found in some American countries. It was introduced in the Canaries and it not in danger of extinction. LOCATION It is a tree that adapts well to the Canaries’ climate and can be found wild in barrancos close to the coasts of Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Palma, la Gomera and el Hierro. It protects against irritations of the digestive mucosa and it is an anti-microbial, which reduces intestinal fermentation and putrefaction. HERKÖMMLICHER NAME: Johannisbrotbaum FAMILIE: CAESALPINIACEAE ETWAS ÜBER DIE GESCHICHTE DER PFLANZE Ceratonia kommt von dem griechischen Wort «ceras», das «Körper» bedeutet. Dies bezieht sich eindeutig auf die Form der Frucht dieses Baumes. Viera y Clavijo sagt: «Das war diese Speise, von der das Wunderkind, wie der Heilige Lukas erzählt, zu essen wünschte wie die Schweine, weil ihn der Hunger peinigte …und da es zahlreiche dieser Bäume in der Umgebung von Jerusalem gab, glaubten die Leute, dass sich an ihm der Verräter aufhängte und nannten ihn deshalb Baum des Judas». Auch in der katholischen Tradition glaubt man, dass diese Frucht die Nahrung des Heiligen Johannes war, als dieser allein in der Wüste war, weshalb man den Johannisbrotbaum als «Brot des Heiligen Johannes» kennt. Seine Frucht wurde in Spanien und auf den kanarischen Inseln wegen der Lebensmittelknappheit während des Bürgerkriegs und in der Nachkriegszeit viel gegessen. BESCHREIBUNG Bis zu 6 Meter hoher Baum, manchmal sogar bis zu 10 Meter; große Krone und breiter Stamm. Seine Baumrinde ist grau und rau, die Zweige sind etwas gebogen, die Blätter bestehen aus vier bis fünf Paaren von ovalen Blättchen oder Blättern mit gebogenen etwas lederartigen Rändern, deren obere Seite grün glänzt, während das Untere glanzlos ist. Die Blütenstände sind in unauffälligen Büscheln angeordnet. Die Früchte sind eine Art grüne Hülse, die, wenn sie reifen, bis dunkelbraun werden, sie sind länglich und flachgedrückt wie Hörner, die Fruchtfleisch und kleine dunkelbraune, sehr harte Samen enthalten.
