El Cabildo contrata la restauración de las pinturas de la ermita de La Ampuyenta FMHOY - Fuerteventura La Consejería de Cultura y Patrimonio Histórico del Cabildo de Fuerteventura prevé completar a lo largo de los próximos meses el proceso de restauración de los bienes muebles de la ermita de San Pedro Alcántara, en La Ampuyenta, dentro de la línea de trabajo que se viene desarrollando durante los últimos años para recuperar la riqueza artística y patrimonial de la ermita, valorando su importancia histórica. En este sentido, el Cabildo formalizó durante el mes de julio la adjudicación de los siguientes trabajos de restauraciones: pinturas murales de la Epístola; arco y testero; Coro; cuadro “Virgen de La Candelaria”; puertas policromadas de la Sacristía; pila de agua bendita; y andas procesionales de San Pedro. Las restauraciones se realizarán bajo la dirección de la especialista María Jesús Morante, por un importe de 78.000 euros. La consejera de Cultura y Patrimonio Histórico, Genara Ruiz, explicó que con estos trabajos “avanzamos en la culminación de la restauración del interior de la ermita, que se completarán con otro grupo de restauraciones que también saldrán a contratación próximamente. Valoramos en esta tarea la importancia que tiene toda la riqueza patrimonial del templo, que lo convierten en un auténtico referente no sólo en Fuerteventura sino para todo el Archipiélago”. Genera Ruiz subrayó que “la restauración de estos seis nuevos bienes permitirá dotar de homogeneidad al conjunto artístico de la ermita de Ampuyenta, igualando los elementos que ya han sido rehabilitados con los que todavía quedan por recuperar”. Este templo, fundado en 1681, fue declarado BIC en el año 1991. En su interior acoge hasta 16 pinturas distintas, en su mayoría alegóricas a la figura de San Pedro, además de un retablo mayor, varias esculturas, las andas del santo, etc. Pinturas murales La ermita de San Pedro Alcántara guarda y custodia la más importante colección de pintura de la Isla, que por su variedad y calidad la hacen única en el Archipiélago; pintura de caballete, pintura mural y pintura decorativa cubren la totalidad de los muros, coro y artesonado de este singular templo. Destaca dentro de este conjunto pictórico la importantísima pintura mural que se encuentra en la zona del presbiterio. Ésta puede considerarse como la de mayor calidad en cuanto a pintura mural antigua que podemos encontrar en el Archipiélago y fue, posiblemente, ejecutada en la segunda mitad del siglo XVIII. Esta pintura ocupa los muros laterales y la zona del arco toral del presbiterio y representan arquitecturas de tipo Rococó, con puertas, balaustradas, columnas, capiteles, etc., que en la correspondiente al lado de la epístola enmarcan la representación de tres hornacinas, en donde en su interior aparecen, a modo de esculturas fingidas las representaciones de San José con el Niño, María Inmaculada y San Antonio. En el muro correspondiente al lado del Evangelio y simétricamente a las anteriores, se representa a San

Juan Bautista, el Niño con la Cruz y San Francisco. A finales de los años setenta del pasado siglo se intervino en la techumbre de este edificio, siendo en esos momentos cuando esta pintura mural sufrió los mayores daños. Ya que no se tuvo en cuenta la existencia de estas pinturas y se provocaron daños irreparables. Del mismo modo se eliminó la pintura mural del falso techo que cubría el Presbiterio. Con respecto a las pinturas del Presbiterio correspondiente al lado del Evangelio, elaboradas con la técnica de temple sobre mortero, cuenta con unas dimensiones de 793 cm. X 570 cm. No está incluido en estas dimensiones las correspondientes a la zona posterior del retablo y a la zona correspondiente al arco toral. En cuanto al zócalo, éste recorre todo el largo de los muros correspondientes al lado de la epístola y al del evangelio de la única nave con que cuenta la ermita de San Pedro. Teniendo en cuenta las catas realizadas, la pintura mural subyacente alcanza una altura aproximada de 160 cm. Y una longitud de 18 m., aproximadamente. Andas de San Pedro Aunque de factura más reciente, estas andas parecen imitar a las de Tefía y el Valle de Santa Inés, ya que poseen el miso tipo de columna y de cubierta. La base de la estructura presenta actualmente las consecuencias del ataque de insectos xilófagos, también presenta grietas, pérdida de fragmentos, etc. Coro policromado Ubicado en el muro correspondiente al lado del Evangelio y con acceso desde el exterior, su realización se fecha en el siglo XVIII y sus dimensiones se corresponden con 110cm x 427 cm x 150 cm. realizado en madera tallada y policromada. Pila de agua bendita La pila de agua bendita está situada junto a la puerta lateral, en el muro correspondiente al lado del a Epístola, y actualmente se encuentra recubierta de una gruesa capa de pintura, posiblemente cemento. Aparenta una gran fragilidad y se aprecian grietas y faltantes. La pila está realizada en barro cocido, con unas dimensiones de 42cm x 106 cm.

Puertas policromadas Se trata de las puertas ubicadas en el muro correspondiente al lado del evangelio y que comunican el Presbiterio con la Sacristía, con unas dimensiones de 93cm X 180 cm. Su realización está fechada en el siglo XVIII y actualmente presentan un importante deterioro, debido a la acción humana, los cambios de temperatura y el paso del tiempo. Cuadro de la Virgen de Candelaria Se trata de una pintura de caballete situada en el muro correspondiente al norte de la sacristía, que representa a la Virgen de la Candelaria con el Niño, realizada con técnica de óleo sobre lienzo y de autor desconocido, aunque se atribuye la fecha de su realización al siglo XVIII. El cuadro tiene unas dimensiones de 68cm X 122cm. Actualmente presenta un mal estado, con desgarros, orificios e importantes pérdidas en el soporte. La capa pictórica también presenta una suciedad importante, barnices oxidados y elementos extraños a la obra.

The Cabildo gets restoration work started on the paintings of La Ampuyenta’s Chapel FMHOY - Fuerteventura The Culture and Historical Heritage Council of Fuerteventura’s Cabildo intends to complete the restoration of various items inside San Pedro Alcántara’s chapel in La Ampuyenta within the next few months. This project is in line with the work carried out over the past few years aiming at preserving and enhancing the artistic and historical heritage of the chapel. The Cabildo has therefore authorised the following restoration work: the murals of the Epistle; the arch and pillar; the Choir; the “Virgen de La Candelaria” painting; the multicoloured doors of the Sacristy; the holy water font; and the portable platform for San Pedro’s processions. The restoration work that represents an investment of 78.000 Euros will be supervised by the specialist María Jesús Morante. The Culture and Historical Heritage Councillor, Genara Ruiz, explained that thanks to those restorations “we are getting closer to the completion of the restoration of the chapel’s interior, that are carried out with other groups of restorations that will soon start also. We aim at emphasising the importance of the heritage wealth of this chapel which will become a reference in Fuerteventura and in the whole Archipelago”. Genera Ruiz added that “the restoration of those six new items will bring homogeneity to the whole artistic collection contained inside Ampuyenta’s Chapel, bringing them all to the same level of restoration”. This temple, created in 1681, was declared “Property of Cultural Heritage Value” in 1991. It contains 16 separate paintings which are mostly allegories to San Pedro, as well as a main altarpiece, various sculptures, the saint’s portable platform, etc. Mural paintings San Pedro Alcántara’s chapel contains the largest collection of paintings of the Island, which is unique in the Archipelago for its variety and quality; easel painting, mural painting and decorative painting cover all the walls, choir and coffered ceiling of this unique temple. The hugely significant mural painting situated in the presbytery stands out the most out of all the paintings. It has been assessed as having the best quality for ancient murals found in the Archipelago and was possibly created during the second half of the 18th century. This painting can be found on the lateral walls and the arch area of the presbytery and represents Rococo type of architecture, with doors, balustrades, columns, etc. that are by the side if the epistle and frame the representation of three vaulted niches that contain imitations of sculptures of Saint Joseph leading the Infant Child, the Virgin Mary and Saint Anthony.

There are representations of Saint John the Baptist, the Infant Child with the Cross and Saint Francis on the wall situated by the side of the Gospel, symmetrically with the other representations. At the end of the seventies the roof of the chapel was fixed, which is when this mural was damaged the most. As those paintings were not taken care of at all, irreparable damaged was caused. In the same manner, the mural painting of the false ceiling in the Presbytery was taken away. The Presbytery paintings situated by the side of the Gospel were elaborated with tempera painting on mortar and are 793 cm x 570 cm in size. Those dimensions do not include the back of the altarpiece and the area of transversal arch. The skirting board goes along all the walls along the Epistle and the Gospel of the unique nave of San Pedro’s chapel. The underlying mural painting reaches a height of approximately 160 cm and 18 m in length. Portable platform of San Pedro Although it is more recent, this platform seems to copy those of Tefia and Valle de Santa Ines as they have the same type of columns and roof. The base of the structure is currently showing signs of attack from xylophagous insects, it has cracks and fragments have fallen out, etc. Multicoloured choir painting

It is situated on the wall situated by the side of the Gospel that gives access outside, it was created during the 18th century and has dimensions of 110cm x 427 cm x 150 cm; it is made of multicoloured carved wood. The holy water font The holy water font is situated by the lateral door on the wall by the side of the Epistle. It is currently covered with a thick layer of paint and possibly cement. It is very fragile and shows signs of cracks and missing pieces. The font is made of cooked clay; its dimensions are 42 cm x 106 cm. Multicoloured doors Those doors are situated on the wall by the Gospel and link the Presbytery with the Sacristy; they are 93 cm x 180 cm. They date from 18th century and are currently in a state of advanced deterioration because of human actions, temperature changes and time. Painting of Virgin of Candelaria This is an easel painting situated North in the sacristy that represents Virgin of Candelaria with the Infant Child. It is made with a technique of oil on canvas from an unknown author although it is dated from the 18th century. It is currently in an poor state, with tears, holes and many missing parts of its support. The painting itself is very dirty, with oxidised varnish and elements foreign to the creation.

Der Cabildo vergibt den Vertrag für die Restaurierung von Wandbildern der Wallfahrtskirche “Ermita de La Ampuyenta“ FMHOY - Fuerteventura Das Amt für Kultur und historisches Erbe des Cabildo von Fuerteventura beabsichtigt im Rahmen der Arbeiten, die seit einigen Jahren durchgeführt werden, um den künstlerischen und historischen Reichtum der Wallfahrtskirche zu erhalten in den nächsten Monaten die Restaurierung der Mobilien der Ermita de San Pedro Alcántara, in La Ampuyenta zu vervollständigen und ihre historische Bedeutung aufzuwerten. Daher hat der Cabildo im Juni folgende Restaurierungsarbeiten formell zugewiesen: Wandbilder der Epistelseite, Bogen und Kopfstück, Chor, Bild der Heiligen Jungfrau „Virgen de La Candelaria”, polychrome Türen der Sakristei, Weihwasserbecken und Traggestelle für die Prozession des San Pedro. Die Restaurierungsarbeiten werden von der Expertin María Jesús Morante geleitet und kosten 78.000 Euro. Die Beauftragte für Kultur und historisches Erbe, Genara Ruiz, erklärte: „Mit diesen Arbeiten machen wir einen Fortschritt bei der Ausführung der Restaurierung des Innern der Wallfahrtskirche. Diese Arbeiten werden bald durch weitere Restaurierungsarbeiten ergänzt, für die der Auftrag demnächst vergeben wird. Durch diese Arbeiten wird der künstlerische Wert dieses Gotteshauses gezeigt, das dadurch nicht nur für Fuerteventura sondern für den gesamten Archipel zu einem Bezugspunkt wird”. Genera Ruiz betonte: „die Restaurierung dieser sechs Wertgegenstände wird es ermöglichen, den künstlerischen Komplex der „Ermita de Ampuyenta“ einheitlich zu gestalten, indem alle schon restaurierten Teile mit denen die noch restauriert werden müssen, in Einklang gebracht werden“. Dieses 1681 gegründete Gotteshaus wurde im Jahr 1991 zum Kulturgut von besonderem Interesse erklärt. In seinem Innern befinden sich bis zu 16 verschiedene Malereien, von denen die Mehrzahl Allegorien für San Pedro darstellen. Dazu kommen ein Retabel, verschiedene Skulpturen, die Bahre des Heiligen usw. Wandbilder In der „Ermita de San Pedro Alcántara“ befindet sich die bedeutendste Malereisammlung der Insel, die aufgrund ihrer Vielfalt und ihrer Qualität im Archipel einzigartig ist: Staffeleimalerei, Wandbilder und gemalte Verzierungen bedecken alle Mauern, den Chor und die Täfelungen dieser einzigartigen Kirche. In diesem Gemäldekomplex muss die bedeutende Wandmalerei im Bereich des Presbyteriums hervorgehoben werden. Sie kann als die beste alte

Wandmalerei des Archipels bezeichnet werden, und wurde möglicherweise in der zweiten Hälfte des XVIII. Jahrhunderts angefertigt. Diese Malereien befinden sich an den Seitenmauern und im Bereich des Hauptbogens des Presbyteriums und stellen Rokoko-Architektur mit Türen, Balustraden, Säulen, Kapitellen usw. dar. An der Epistelseite dienen sie als Rahmen für die Darstellung von drei Mauernischen, so dass fingierte Skulpturen des Heiligen Joseph mit dem Christkind, der Jungfrau Maria und des Heiligen Antonius dargestellt werden. Auf der Mauer der Evangelienseite, die symmetrisch zu den anderen ist, werden Johannes der Täufer, das Christkind mit dem Kreuz und der Heilige Franziskus dargestellt. Ende der siebziger Jahre des vergangenen Jahrhunderts wurde das Dach dieses Gebäudes repariert, dabei wurde die Wandmalerei besonders stark beschädigt. Denn damals wurde die Existenz dieser Bilder nicht berücksichtigt, wodurch nicht zu behebende Schäden entstanden sind. Auf die gleiche Weise wur-

den die Wandbilder von der entfernt, welche damals das Presbyterium bedeckten. Die Malereien des Presbyteriums auf der Evangelienseite wurden mit der Temperatechnik erarbeitet. Sie haben folgende Maße: 793 cm. X 570 cm. Die Bereiche hinter dem Retabel und hinter dem Bogen werden nicht dazu gezählt. Das Wandbild ist ungefähr 160 cm hoch und 18 m. lang. Bahre des San Pedro Diese Bahre ist nicht so alt und scheint eine Imitation derer von Tefía und Valle de Santa Inés zu sein. Der Sockel der Struktur wurde von einem Angriff von holzfressenden Insekten beschädigt und weist außerdem Risse und Fragmentverluste auf. Polychromer Chor Der polychrome Chor befindet sich an der Mauer an der Evangelienseite und verfügt über einen Ausgang, der im XVIII. Jahrhundert gebaut wurde, und folgende Maße hat: 110cm x 427 cm x 150 cm. Er ist aus polychromem geschnitztem Holz. Weihwasserbecken Das Weihwasserbecken befindet sich an der Seitentür, an der Mauer auf der Epistelseite. ES ist zurzeit von einer dicken Farbschicht bedeckt, die möglicherweise aus Zement ist. Es scheint sehr empfindlich zu sein und hat Risse und Mängel. Das Becken ist aus Ton und hat folgende Maße: 42cm x 106 cm. Polychrome Türen Diese Türen, die zum Presbyterium und zur Sakristei führen, befinden sich an der Mauer an der Evangelienseite, und haben folgende Maße: 93cm X 180 cm. Sie wurden im XVIII. Jahrhundert gebaut und wurden durch das Verhalten der Menschen, den Klimawandel und die Zeit stark beschädigt. Bild der Candelaria Diese Staffeleimalerei ist ein Ölbild auf Leinen und hängt an der Mauer, die dem Norden der Sakristei entspricht, auf der die „Virgen de la Candelaria“ mit dem Christkind dargestellt wird. Der Autor dieses Bildes ist nicht bekannt, aber man geht davon aus, dass es im XVIII. Jahrhundert gemalt wurde. Das Bild hat folgende Maße: 68cm X 122cm. Heute befindet es sich in einem sehr schlechten Zustand: Es hat Risse und Löcher, außerdem ist die Farbschicht sehr schmutzig, der Lack oxidiert und es sind Elemente vorhanden, die nicht zu dem ursprünglichen Bild gehören.

Canarias presenta la nueva raza Cabra de Costa Majorera FMHOY - Fuerteventura El Instituto Canario de Investigaciones Agrarias (ICIA) y la Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) presentaron ante la comunidad científica la nueva raza “Cabra de Costa Majorera” en el Congreso mundial de Ganado Caprino que se celebró en Recife, Brasil, el pasado mes de septiembre. Este descubrimiento surge de un estudio genético de la cabra majorera desarrollado por investigadores de la Universidad de Córdoba en las Islas, en el cual se analizó el ADN de varias poblaciones domésticas de las Islas y otras semisalvajes del Barranco del Esquinzo y de Betancuria, en Fuerteventura, que determinó que el grupo poblacional de este municipio majorero pertenece a una raza caprina más antigua que el resto de rebaños analizados. Un ensayo posterior de caracterización morfológica de la cabra majorera desarrollado por científicos de la Universidad de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria y dirigido por el investigador del Instituto Canario de Investigaciones Agrarias (ICIA), Juan Capote, confirma que estos 2.000 ejemplares de Betancuria pertenecen a una raza ancestral diferente a la majorera. Con este nuevo genotipo serían cuatro las razas de cabra canaria, la tinerfeña -con sus dos variedades, norte y sur-, la palmera, la majorera y la de costa majorera, que como explicó el investigador del ICIA, descienden de un solo rebaño ancestral que fue traído en su momento por los habitantes primitivos del Archipiélago. Capote indicó que, dado el escaso número de ejemplares que integran esta raza, debe ser considerada en peligro de extinción, por lo que, según apuntó, deben intensificarse las acciones para su conservación. El Director General de Ganadería, Marcelino Umpiérrez, destacó la calidad de los trabajos desarrollados por los investigadores canarios en este ámbito y celebró la trascendencia que este descubrimiento tiene para el sector primario de las Islas. Umpiérrez se refirió a la importancia y necesidad de constituir una asociación de criadores de la cabra de costa majorera reconocida por el Gobierno de Canarias, como medida para reforzar esta nueva raza y conservar el rico patrimonio genético canario, e indicó que se dará todo el apoyo técnico y el asesoramiento que sea necesario a los productores, con las ayudas que procedan tanto para los ganaderos como las que se destinen a su mejora. La cabra de costa majorera, más pequeña y con la cabeza más corta que la majorera, es un animal de producción cárnica y no lechera, que se adapta fácilmente a las condiciones extremas y en cuyo pelaje predominan los colores blanco y negro.

The Canaries present the new breed of Costa Majorera Goat The Canarian Institute of Agricultural Research (Instituto Canario de Investigaciones Agrarias, ICIA) and the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) presented the new breed of goat called “Cabra de

Costa Majorera” to the scientific community during the International Conference on Goats that took place in Recife, Brazil in September. This discovery comes from a genetic study of Majorero goats developed by researchers from the University of Cordoba in the Islands who analysed the DNA of various domestic populations from the Islands as well as other semi-wild goats from Barranco del Esquinzo and from Betancuria in Fuerteventura. This study showed that the population from this municipality of Fuerteventura belongs to a goat breed which is older than the other herds analysed. Later tests on the morphology characteristics of the Majorero goat developed by scientists in the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria supervised by the researcher from the Institute of Agricultural Research (ICIA), Juan Capote, confirmed that those 2.000 specimens from Betancuria belong to an ancient breed which is different from the Majorero breed. This new genotype brings to four the number of Canarian goat breeds: the Tenerife Breed with two varieties, northern and southern, The Breed from La Palma, The Majorera Breed and the Costa Majorera Breed, that come from one ancient herd that was

brought in by the Archipelago’s primitive habitants, explains the ICIA’s researcher. Mr. Capote indicated that due to the low amount of specimens for this breed, it must be considered as a breed in danger of extinction and actions must be taken to ensure its preservation. The Livestock General Director, Mr. Marcelino Umpiérrez, pointed out the quality of the work developed by Canarian researchers and celebrated the significance of this discovery for the Primary sector in the Islands. Mr. Umpiérrez pointed out the importance and necessity to create an association for breeders of the Costa Majorera Goat recognised by the Canarian Government, as a measure to preserve this new breed and the rich Canarian Genetic heritage. He added that all the required technical support and necessary advice would be provided to livestock farmers and those destined to its improvement. The Costa Majorera goat, smaller and with a shorter head than the Majorera goat, is an animal bread for its meat rather than for its milk, it adapts easily to extreme conditions and tends to have a white and black coat.

Die Kanaren präsentieren die neue Rasse “Küstenziegen aus Fuerteventura“ Das kanarische Institut für landwirtschaftliche Forschung (ICIA) und die Universität von Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) präsentierten der wissenschaftlichen Gemeinschaft auf dem internationalen Kongress für Ziegenzucht im September in Recife, Brasilien, die neue Rasse „Küstenziege aus Fuerteventura”. Diese Entdeckung machten Forscher der Universität von Cordoba auf den Inseln bei einer Untersuchung über die Gene der Ziege von Fuerteventura. Dabei wurde die DNA verschiedener Hausziegenpopulationen der Inseln und von halbwilden Populationen aus dem Barranco del Esquinzo und aus Betancuria, Fuerteventura, gemacht. Es kam heraus, dass die Population aus dieser Gemeinde auf Fuerteventura einer älteren Ziegenrasse angehört als die übrigen untersuchten Herden. Aus einer darauf folgenden Untersuchung über die Ziege von Fuerteventura, die von Wissenschaftlern der Universität von Las Palmas de Gran Canaria durchgeführt und vom Forscher des kanarischen Instituts für landwirtschaftliche Forschung (ICIA), Juan Capote, geleitet wurde, ging hervor, dass diese 2.000 Tiere aus Betancuria einer uralten Rasse angehören, die sich von der Fuerteventura-Ziege unterscheidet. Mit diesem neuen Genotyp gibt es vier kanarische Ziegenrassen: die Ziege aus Teneriffa, - die in zwei Gruppen Nordziege und Südziege klassifiziert wird -, die aus La Palma, die aus Fuerteventura und die von

der Küste aus Fuerteventura, die, wie ein Forscher des ICIA erklärte, von einer einzigen uralten Herde abstammen, welche einst von den primitiven Einheimischen des Archipels mitgebracht wurde. Capote erklärte, dass diese Rasse, da sie aus nur wenigen Exemplaren besteht, als vom Aussterben bedroht bezeichnet werden muss, und dass deshalb mehr dafür getan werden muss, sie zu erhalten. Der Generaldirektor für Viehzucht, Marcelino Umpiérrez, lobte die hervorragende Arbeit, die die kanarischen Wissenschaftler in diesem Bereich geleistet haben und zeigte sich begeistert von der Bedeutung, die diese Entdeckung für den Primärsektor der Inseln haben wird. Umpiérree zog sich darauf, dass es sehr wichtig und notwendig ist, einen von der Regierung der Kanaren anerkannten Verband der Züchter der Küstenziegen von Fuerteventura zu gründen, um diese neue Rasse zu stärken und das wertvolle genetische Erbe der Kanaren zu erhalten. Er erklärte, dass die Viehzüchter die notwendige technische Unterstützung und Beratung erhalten werden. Die Küstenziege aus Fuerteventura, die kleiner ist und einen kleineren Kopf hat als die FuerteventuraZiege, ist ein Tier für die Fleischproduktion und nicht für die Milchproduktion, und kann sich leicht an extreme Situationen anpassen. In ihrem Fell sind die Farben weiß und schwarz dominierend.

Antonio Hormiga Alonso: Presidente de la Asociación de Empresarios de Turismo y Hostelería de Fuerteventura (AEHTF)

“Es muy importante que el turismo no entre en juegos políticos” FMHOY - Fuerteventura ¿Cuando se creó esta asociación? Hace alrededor de unos 20 años, aunque no recuerdo exactamente la fecha; fuimos pioneros en Fuerteventura. Somos los representantes del sector turístico, sobre todo hotelero, también ocio y restauración. Tenemos representación a nivel regional y, la federación y las cuatro patronales turísticas de las islas, estamos en perfecta coordinación. Consideramos que este es el sector de más peso en Canarias. ¿Estuvo Ud. desde el principio en la Asociación? Al principio no, pero me incorporé rápidamente en las siguientes elecciones. Es posible que lleve más de 15 años de presidente, entre otras cosas porque al ser un cargo muy complejo, cuando hay que reelegir todo el mundo sale corriendo… Dicen que es porque doy el perfil, pero yo no estoy seguro de que esto sea la causa. ¿Háblenos de los objetivos de la Asociación? Principalmente velar por los intereses de los empresarios del sector. Estamos a diario con las administraciones públicas y tomando el pulso de los problemas que tiene el sector. Debatimos normas, leyes y sobre todo damos nuestra opinión, aunque no siempre lo conseguimos. Estamos muy en contacto con el Gobierno de Canarias, reuniéndonos con la consejera, vice consejera y directora general de turismo, así como con el presidente del Gobierno de Canarias y a nivel local con la consejera de turismo y con el presidente del Cabildo de Fuerteventura. La labor de la Asociación es una labor callada, no solemos publicitar todo lo que hacemos. ¿Reciben apoyo del sector político o es difícil obtener su atención? No es fácil, pero a base de insistir conseguimos que nos den la razón en muchas cosas. Nosotros no defendemos nada a nivel particular, son bienes generales que nos afectan a todos. Personalmente creo que tenemos un exceso de normas y leyes restrictivas en Canarias y algunas, como la ley de moratoria, se ha demostrado que ha sido completamente contraproducente. Ha hecho más daño que si se hubiese permitido llevar un proceso de crecimiento normal. Después del bajón terrible que sufrió el sector en esta último año 2009, saltaron todas las alarmas y la administración comenzó a entender que si no mimamos el sector turístico, ¡mal nos va! Hace tiempo se me ocurrió y propuse en el Patronato de Turismo la creación de “mesas sectoriales”, que están resultando una herramienta importante. Con las conclusiones que resultan de los debates de estas mesas sectoriales les indicamos a los políticos hacia donde deben realizar su labor. Uno de los temas que más se trabajó en anteriores mesas, como base principal para atraer más turistas, fue comenzar por traer más aviones y compañías desde distintos puntos. Debemos valorar y enfatizar mucho sobre el nuevo aeropuerto, que ya esta preparado para el crecimiento necesario y venidero ¿Cada cuanto tiempo se reúnen en esas mesas sectoriales? Solemos tener unas tres o cuatro reuniones al año, y cada una nos sirve también para llevar el control de los objetivos que se han puesto en marcha o que ya han sido realizados desde la reunión anterior.

Nos juntamos la representación del sector turístico, desde tour-operadores, directores de hotel, empresarios, propietarios, y también la parte administrativa o representación política. Se ponen tres temas sobre la mesa y se debaten en tres mesas y las conclusiones finales se llevan a la mesa central, donde se aprueban algunos definitivamente y otros no, como es lógico. Según su opinión, en el crecimiento de los últimos años, ¿cuál ha sido el municipio que mejor evoluciono cara al futuro? Desde luego Pájara, porque es el municipio que más hoteles construyó; en el norte se dedicaron más a complejos y apartamentos y ahora, La Oliva, está reclamando la necesidad de construir hoteles, pero la pregunta es: ¿Dónde se colocan ahora? Existe un P.T.O.T.I. (Plan Territorial de Ordenación Turístico Insular), en contra nuestra y al que en su momento nos opusimos, se aprobó aquí en el Cabildo de Fuerteventura hace cuatro años, en contra del Gobierno de Canarias, y también en contra de la Ley de Medidas Urgentes. Desde mi punto de vista es un documento que no resuelve nada y sí, entorpece más. Nosotros llevamos solicitando desde hace mucho tiempo, una reunión donde todos los sectores estén representados y que, junto con los políticos, se sienten para crear un plan general de la isla de forma que tengamos una idea clara de hacia donde queremos ir. Sólo con prohibiciones no solucionamos nada. El tiempo da y quita la razón a quien la tiene, pero el daño ya queda hecho. Es muy importante que el turismo no entre en juegos políticos ya que es un interés que mueve la economía de la isla, no es prerrogativa de ningún partido y no debe usarse como arma o interés en política y sin embargo se usa.

Ante los problemas que pueden ir surgiendo en los distintos sectores, ¿los empresarios acuden a Uds. primero o deben ir primero a los organismos oficiales? Primero acuden a nosotros, porque es más fácil ejercer presión como colectivo que de forma individual. Nuestras acciones son siempre constructivas, como es el caso de Corralejo: Cuando nos reunimos con el Ayuntamiento por la suciedad y el casi abandono que tiene esta zona. A pesar de la crisis los ayuntamientos no deben permitirse abandonar el cuidado de las zonas turísticas. Los visitantes se llevan fotos y grabaciones que cuelgan en Internet y en pocos días la peor imagen de la isla se pasea por la red, tirando por tierra toda la inversión publicitaria de nuestras playas. Nos cuesta y tenemos que insistir siempre con los políticos que parecen olvidarse que todos vivimos del turismo. Es el sector más importante y el que más atención e inversión merece. Curiosamente en los presupuestos del Cabildo de Fuerteventura el porcentaje destinado a turismo es ínfimo, creo recordar que no alcanza ni el 2%, incluido en este porcentaje el personal.

“It is very important for tourism not to be involved with politics” FMHOY - Fuerteventura When was this association created? It was about 19 years ago, although I don’t remember the date exactly; we were pioneers in Fuerteventura. We represent the tourism sector, mainly hotels and also leisure facilities and restaurants. The AEHTF is represented on a regional level together with the FEHT, ASOLAN (Lanzarote) and ASHOTEL (Tenerife). All four Tourism Associations on the Islands are in perfect coordination. We consider that this is the largest sector in the Canaries and this is the reason why we are working together on many subjects that are directly related to tourism. Were you involved in the Association from the beginning? I wasn’t initially, but I quickly became involved at the next elections. I believe I have been president for over 10 years, as well as other roles as this is a very complex task, when it is time for elections again everyone hides away… People say that it is because I have the good profile, but I am not sure that this is the real reason. Tell us about the objectives of the Association. It is mainly to be aware of the sector’s businesses’ interests. We are up to date with the public administration and we assess the problems that are up and coming in the sector. We debate on the norms, laws and we mostly give our opinion although we don’t always reach our goals. We are very much in contact with the Canarian Government and the Tourism General Directors, as well as the President of the Canarian Government and locally with the Tourism Councillor and the Cabildo’s President. The Association’s work is done behind closed doors, we don’t tend to advertise what we do. Do you get support from the political sector or is it difficult to get their attention? It is not easy, but if we insist long enough we manage to get what we want in many cases. We don’t fight for anything in particular, it is for general issues that affect us all. Personally I think that we have too many restrictive norms and laws in the Canaries and some, such as the moratorium law, has proved to be completely counterproductive. It has done more damage than if a normal growing process had been permitted. After the terrible decline that the sector has suffered over the past few years, all the alarms started ringing: it was going from bad to worse! The Administration started to understand the importance of the Tourism Sector; it is the economical strength of Fuerteventura as it brings the best part of the Gross Domestic Product, it is obvious. A while back I thought about creating Sector Round Tables and proposed it to the Tourism Board which has turned out to be a very important tool. Thanks to the conclusions that the round tables’ debates bring we are able to tell politicians where to aim their efforts. One of the themes that has been mostly worked on

during previous meetings, as a way to attract more tourists, was to start bringing more planes and airlines from various locations. We must emphasise a lot on the new airport as it is prepared for the up and coming and necessary growth. A lot is still being done in this direction but we still need to get back the markets that were lost, consolidate those that have recently been recovered, increase loyalty thanks to services and good treatment to tourists who holiday here. We should be able to ensure that all Spanish people who live on mainland Spain, the Balearics, Ceuta and Melilla know Fuerteventura and leave the island with an unforgettable and unique experience. How often are those round tables organised? We tend to have three or four every year, and each one is also a way to control the objectives that have been put in place or that have been completed since the last meeting. We get representatives from the tourism sector, tour operators, hotel directors, business people, owners, and also from the administration or politicians. Three themes are addressed and are discussed in three tables and the conclusions are brought to the central table where some are approved definitively and other not, logically. In your point of view, from the increase that has been experienced over the past few years, which municipality has experienced the best growth for the future? I is undoubtedly Pájara, because it is the municipality that has built the largest amount of hotels; in the North they built more complexes and apartments and now La Oliva needs to build hotels but the question is: Where to build them? There is a Territorial Plan for Tourism in Fuerteventura that was approved at Fuerteventura’s Cabildo four years ago, there is also the Law for Urgent Measures, the Moratorium and many more. As far as I am concerned many documents do not resolve much and hinder even more. For a long time we have been asking for a meeting where every sector would be represented and together with politicians they could sit down and create a general plan for the island so that we all have a clear idea of where we are aiming. Prohibitions alone don’t resolve anything. Time that goes by shows who was right and

who wasn’t, but damages that were done remain. It is very important for Tourism not be involved with politics, because it is an interest that affects the island’s economy, it is not the prerogative of any party and it can not be used as a weapon or interest in politics however it is being used as such. With all the different problems that can occur in various sectors, do businesses come to you first or should they first go to their official organisations? They come to us first, because it is easier to put pressure as an association rather than as an individual. Our actions are always constructive, like in Corralejo for example when we met with the Ayuntamiento because of the dirt and the state of abandon of the area. Despite the crisis, the Ayuntamientos can not allow themselves to give up on the upkeep of touristic areas. Visitors take photos and films home that are later put on the internet and within a few days the worst image of the island could be online, ruining the investments in advertising done for our beaches. We keep on insisting strongly with politicians who seem to forget that we all live from tourism. It is the most important sector which requires the most attention and investment. Curiously in Fuerteventura’s Cabildo’s budgets the percentage destined to tourism is extremely low, if I remember correctly it does not even reach 2%, which also includes the staff.

“Es ist sehr wichtig, dass sich der Tourismus aus dem politischen Treiben heraus hält” FMHOY - Fuerteventura Wann wurde dieser Verband gegründet? Vor ungefähr 19 Jahren, ich erinnere mich nicht an das genaue Datum; auf Fuerteventura waren wir Pioniere. Wir sind die Vertretung der Tourismusbranche, vor allem des Beherbergungsgewerbes, aber auch der Freizeitveranstalter und der Restaurants. La AEHTF ist auf regionaler Ebene vertreten, zusammen mit FEHT, ASOLAN (Lanzarote) und ASHOTEL (Teneriffa), das sind die vier Tourismuspatronate der Inseln, welche perfekt koordiniert sind. Wir sind der Meinung, dass es auf den Kanaren der wichtigste Sektor ist, und deshalb arbeiten wir in vielen Bereichen, die mit dem Tourismus zu tun haben, zusammen. Sind Sie seit der Gründung im Verein? Nein, am Anfang war ich nicht dabei, aber ich trat bei den nächsten Wahlen bei. Es ist möglich, dass ich schon mehr als 10 Jahre Vorsitzender bin, unter anderem weil es ein sehr kompliziertes Amt ist, und wenn wieder gewählt werden muss, gehen alle schnell weg … Es wird gesagt, dass das so ist, weil ich meine Arbeit gut mache, aber ich bin mir nicht sicher, dass das wirklich der Grund ist. Erzählen Sie uns bitte etwas über Ihren Verein. Wir vertreten vor allem die Interessen unserer Branche. Wir haben täglich mit den öffentlichen Ämtern zu tun und reden über die Probleme der Branche. Wir diskutieren über Normen, Gesetze und sagen vor allem unsere Meinung, aber wir schaffen es nicht immer, unsere Ziele zu verwirklichen. Wir haben viel Kontakt zur Regierung der Kanaren und treffen uns mit der Beauftragten, mit der stellvertretenden Beauftragten und mit den Generaldirektoren für Tourismus sowie mit dem Präsidenten der Kanaren.

Auf örtlicher Ebene treffen wir uns mit der Beauftragten für Tourismus und mit dem Präsidenten des Cabildo. Wir arbeiten in aller Stille und veröffentlichen normalerweise nichts über unsere Tätigkeit. Werden Sie von den Politikern unterstützt, oder ist es schwer, deren Aufmerksamkeit auf sich zu ziehen? Es ist nicht leicht, aber wir sind so hartnäckig, dass sie uns am Ende in vielen Fragen recht geben. Wir verteidigen keine persönlichen Interessen, sondern die der Allgemeinheit. Meine persönliche Meinung ist, dass wir auf den Kanaren zu viele Normen und einschränkenden Gesetze haben, und es hat sich erwiesen, dass einige davon, wie das Moratoriumsgesetz, völlig unzweckmäßig sind. Es hat mehr geschadet, als wenn ein normaler Wachstumsprozess zugelassen worden wäre. Nach dem schrecklichen Tief, das unsere Branche in den letzten zwei Jahren getroffen hat, waren alle besorgt und meinten, dass alles immer schlimmer werden würde! Die Verwaltung begann die Bedeutung zu erkennen, die die Tourismusbranche als wirtschaftlicher Motor von Fuerteventura hat. Es ist eindeutig, dass wir den größten Teil zum BIP beitragen. Vor einiger Zeit hatte ich eine Idee und schlug dem Patronat für Tourismus vor, Branchentreffen einzurichten, die sich als sehr nützlich erwiesen haben. Mit den Schlussfolgerungen, die aus diesen Branchentreffen hervorgehen, zeigen wir den Politikern, welche Arbeit getan werden muss. Eines der wichtigsten Themen bei unseren letzten Treffen war, dass wir mehr Flugzeuge und Fluggesellschaften aus verschiedenen Städten hier herbringen müssen, um mehr Touristen anzuziehen. Vor allem der neue Flughafen hat eine große Bedeutung und ist schon für das notwendige Wachstum der Zukunft vorbereitet. Wir arbeiten weiter in dieser Richtung, aber wir müssen die verlorenen Märkte wieder erobern und diejenigen, die kürzlich zurück gewonnen wurden, konsolidieren, die Touristen, die uns besuchen, durch gute Leistungen und Freundlichkeit treu machen. Wir sollten in der Lage sein, alle zusammen zu erreichen, dass alle Spanier, die auf dem Festland, den Balearen

sowie in Ceuta und in Melilla leben, Fuerteventura kennenlernen und eine einzigartige Erfahrung machen. Wie oft finden diese Branchentreffen statt? Normalerweise haben wir drei oder vier Treffen im Jahr, die uns auch helfen zu sehen, ob wir den Zielen näher kommen, die wir uns beim letzten Mal vorgenommen haben, oder ob sie sogar schon verwirklicht wurden. Wir setzen uns mit den Vertretern der Tourismusbranche zusammen, von Reiseveranstaltern, Hoteldirektoren, Unternehmer und auch Vertretern der öffentlichen Verwaltungen und Politik. Es kommen immer drei Themen auf die Tagesordnung und es wird an drei Tischen diskutiert. Die Schlussfolgerungen werden am Haupttisch vorgetragen, wo logischer Weise einige verabschiedet werden, und andere nicht. Wenn man das Wachstum der letzten Jahre in Betracht zieht, welche Gemeinde entwickelt sich Ihrer Meinung nach am besten? Eindeutig Pájara, denn es ist die Gemeinde, in der am meisten Hotels gebaut wurden; im Norden wurden mehr Wohnsiedlungen und Apartments gebaut. Jetzt besteht La Oliva darauf, Hotels zu bauen. Aber die Frage lautet: Wo sollen die jetzt gebaut werden? Es gibt einen besonderen Gebietsplan für den Tourismus auf Fuerteventura (PTEOTIF), gegen den wir damals waren, und den der Cabildo von Fuerteventura vor vier Jahren verabschiedet hat. Außerdem gibt es das Gesetz der dringenden Maßnahmen, das Moratoriumsgesetz und weitere Normen. Meiner Meinung nach nutzen viele Dokumente überhaupt nichts, sondern sind eher störend. Wir beantragen seit langem ein Treffen, bei dem alle Branchen vertreten sind und zusammen mit den Politikern einen Generalplan für die Insel erarbeiten, damit wir wissen, was wir wollen. Die Zeit gibt demjenigen Recht, der Recht hat, aber der Schaden ist schon entstanden. Es ist sehr wichtig, dass der Tourismus sich aus dem politischen Treiben raus hält, denn er steuert die Wirtschaft der Insel. Er ist kein Vorrecht irgendeiner Partei und darf nicht als Waffe zur Verteidigung von politischen Interessen genutzt werden. Müssen sich die Unternehmer bei den verschiedenen Problemen, die entstehen können, zuerst an Sie wenden oder an die offiziellen Organismen? Zuerst wenden Sie sich an uns, denn es ist leichter als Kollektiv Druck auszuüben als alleine. Unsere Aktionen sind immer konstruktiv, wie zum Beispiel in Corralejo: Dort haben wir uns mit Vertretern der Gemeinde getroffen, als diese Gegend sehr schmutzig und fast heruntergekommen war. Trotz der Krise dürfen es sich die Gemeinden nicht erlauben, ihre touristischen Gegenden zu vernachlässigen. Die Besucher machen Fotos und Videos, die sie später ins Internet setzen, und wenige Tage später sind die hässlichsten Aufnahmen der Insel im Netz. Damit wird die ganze Investition, die wir gemacht haben, um für unsere Strände zu werben, unnütz. Es ist anstrengend, und wir müssen die Politiker immer wieder daran erinnern, dass wir vom Tourismus leben, da sie dies zu vergessen scheinen. Es ist die wichtigste Branche und verdient die meiste Aufmerksamkeit und die höchsten Investitionen. Interessanterweise ist im Haushalt des Cabildo von Fuerteventura der Prozentsatz für den Tourismus sehr gering, ich glaube mich zu erinnern, dass er einschließlich der Personalkosten weniger als 2% beträgt.

¡Nuestra oficina está en el mar! FMHOY - Fuerteventura Al terminar el curso impartido por las hermanas Ruano, Dayda e Iballa, hemos podido charlar unos minutos con ellas y saber algo más sobre estas internacionales deportistas que llevan la imagen de Canarias por el mundo. ¿Cuándo comenzasteis a practicar este deporte? Dayda - A los 17 años, bastante tarde, si lo comparamos con la edad en que se están iniciando los niños ahora, entre 8 y 10 años ya que actualmente hay material y escuelas especializadas para ellos. Nosotras no tuvimos esa posibilidad. Nacisteis en Gran Canaria ¿no es así? D.- Si en la playa de Pozo Izquierdo, que es una playa mítica para la práctica de Windsurf a nivel internacional. Desde pequeñas veíamos a los surfistas, pero con la impresión de que era lago sólo para turistas y gente de clase de élite. Iballa - No había gente de nuestra edad practicando, ni escuelas, no existía cultura de ese deporte y en el pueblo nadie lo practicaba. Cómo fue que os iniciasteis, ¿encontrasteis un profesor? D.- Fue muy curioso. Nosotras siempre cogíamos olas con el “buggie” desde muy pequeñas. Siempre había viento y era nuestro enemigo numero uno. Un día un vecino de Pozo fue a tirar a la basura una tabla de aprendiz grande y pesada, un modelo antiguo y desfasado y, al vernos nos la ofreció para que la usáramos y probásemos. Así lo hicimos, junto con tres amigos nos pasamos la tarde turnándonos, pues sólo teníamos una vela, un aparejo y nos lo pasábamos cada media hora. ¿Sin profesor, ni experiencia? I. -Sin nadie, con lo que habíamos visto a los turistas, con revistas y poco más y en dos años ya estábamos compitiendo a nivel mundial. Qué suerte que a las dos os haya gustado el mismo deporte. Así os habréis motivado la una a la otra. I.- Siempre hemos sido muy aficionadas al deporte,

hicimos atletismo juntas, jugamos al baloncesto durante cinco o seis años juntas, siempre hemos tenido aficiones comunes. D.- Sí, el estar juntas nos ha ayudado mucho. Desde el año 97, que fueron nuestras primeras competiciones, hemos seguido compitiendo juntas. ¿Cuántas veces habéis competido a nivel internacional? I.- En 1997 fue el primer campeonato mundial, y yo quedé tercera en olas. En total unos 13 años en total. D.- Yo ese año acababa de salir de una lesión de rodilla que me tuvo alejada un año de las tablas. A partir de 1998 comenzamos a tener nuestros propios patrocinadores y fue cuando hicimos el circuito completo, que son diferentes pruebas para conseguir sumar los puntos necesarios para acabar finalistas. Por lo tanto hay que viajar mucho y es imposible sin patrocinadores. I.- Aunque aquí en Canarias se realizan varias de las pruebas del circuito mundial con diferentes disciplinas; se necesita viajar para conseguir experiencia en distintos lugares, diferentes mares y condiciones: frío, calor, olas, vientos, etc. A pesar de lo jóvenes que sois, os habéis movido ya por muchos países, ¿no es así? I.- Conocemos, Japón, Australia, Indonesia, Hawái, Estados Unidos, y casi todos los países europeos. Como novedad iré por primera vez a Brasil en noviembre. D.- Hablando con una amiga, le comentaba que hemos madurado mucho moviéndonos en tantos países y viajando tanto. Que nos ha servido para tener amigos en todo el mundo y que hemos decidido llevar nuestra vida de una forma diferente, ¡nuestra oficina está en el mar!, pero sobre todo en los últimos años

hemos podido valorar nuestras amistades de casa, ya que estamos un poquito mas asentadas. Ahora es cuando estamos disfrutando más de estar con los nuestros aquí. I.- Es que como en Canarias no se vive en ningún sitio. Después de conocer tantos lugares valoramos más nuestra tierra. ¿Es cierto que el mundo del windsurf es bastante machista? D.- Sí mucho, existen grandes diferencias económicas en los premios entre los campeonatos de hombres y los de mujeres. Son las grandes firmas deportivas las que mayores diferencias hacen a pesar de que las mujeres cada vez somos más y mejores. Nos toca luchar mucho más. A pesar de tener entre las dos 19 títulos mundiales, con que un niño de quince años, gane una prueba, no un circuito, ya ganará mucho más dinero que nosotras. I.- A nosotras por suerte nos patrocinan Caja Canarias, Volkswagen Comerciales, el Ayuntamiento de Santa Lucia, Baker & Makenzie, Starboard, Severne, Islas Canarias, Dwarf8, Flying Objets y Roxi, sino lo habríamos tenido que dejar hace tiempo. Es sorprendente que siendo un deporte tan duro, no valoren a las mujeres debidamente I.- Sí es duro, porque aunque a nivel físico es prácticamente imposible compararnos con la fuerza de los hombres, las mujeres lo suplimos con técnica y aprendemos antes. D. - A nosotras se nos compara muy a menudo con los chicos porque controlamos muy bien, pero por constitución ellos tienen mas fuerza. Nosotras tenemos nuestro propio estilo y somos igual de radicales en nuestro trabajo, pero... ¡Somos mujeres!

The sea is our office! FMHOY - Fuerteventura After a lesson with the Ruano Daida and Iballa sisters, we were able to have a chat with them for a few minutes and find out about those international sportswomen who spread the image of the Canary Islands all over the world. When did you start practising this sport? Dayda – At 17 years of age, quite late in fact, if you compare it to the age that children start nowadays, between 8 and 10 as there is now material and schools specialised for them. We did not have this opportunity. You were born in Gran Canaria, weren’t you? D. – Yes, we lived by the beach of Pozo Izquierdo, which is a mythical beach for windsurfing on international level. From our youngest age we used to watch surfers, but with the impression that it was a sport reserved for tourists or people from the elite. Iballa – No one from our age used to practice this sport, no schools, there wasn’t any culture around this sport and in our village no one use to practice it. How did you start? Did you meet an instructor? D. – It was really strange. We always used to take the waves with our “buggie” from the youngest age. There was always wind which was our worst enemy. One day a neighbour from Pozo went to throw away in the bin a learning board that was very big and heavy, it was a old fashioned model and when he saw us he gave it to us so that we could try it out. This is how it happened with three friends we spent the afternoon taking turns as we only had on set of equipment and we used to swap every half hour. No instructor and no experience? I. – Without anyone, only from what we had watched from tourists, read in magazines and very little else and within two years we were already competing at worldwide level. This is lucky that you both took to the same sport. This makes sure you motivate one another. I. – We have always been keen on sports, we used to practise athletics together, and we played basketball together for five or six years, we have always had common interests. D. – Yes, being together has helped us a lot. Since 1997, which was when we had our first competitions, we have kept on competing together. How many times have you competed at international level? I. – The First World Championship was in 1997, and I got to third position in the waves. It has been about 13 years in total. D.- During that year I was recovering from a knee injury which means that I stayed away from the boards. From 1998 onwards we started having our own spon-

sors and this is when we did the full circuit, which consists of various challenges to accumulate the required points to end up in the final. This requires a lot of travelling which means that you need sponsors. I. – Although some of the challenges of the worldwide circuit are organised here in the Canaries with various disciplines; it is necessary to travel in order to gain experience in various locations, different seas and conditions: cold, heat, waves, wind, etc. Despite being as young as you are, you have travelled to many countries, haven’t you? I. – We have been to Japan, Australia, Indonesia, Hawaii, United States, and almost every European country. As a novelty, we will go to Brazil for the first time in November. D. – Speaking with a friend, we were telling her that we have matured a lot by travelling to so many countries. It has been a way for us to make friends all over the world and it has made us decide to live our lives differently, the sea is our office! But overall, over the past few years we have been able to value our love for our home, as we are now more settled. We now enjoy being with our family here. I. – There is nowhere like the Canaries, after visiting so many places, we really appreciate our home land.

Is it true that the Windsurfing world is quite sexist? D. – Yes, very much so, there are many financial differences between the prizes for men and women championships. The big sports businesses are the ones who make the most differences although there are more and more women and we keep on getting better. We need to fight harder. Despite the fact that we have 19 world prizes amongst both of us, when a fifteen year old boy wins a challenge, not a circuit, he will earn more money than we do. I. – Thankfully Caja Canarias, Volkswagen Commercials, the Ayuntamiento of Santa Lucia, Baker & Makenzie, Starboard, Severne, Islas Canarias, Dwardf8, Flying Objets and Roxi sponsor us, otherwise we would have had to give up a long time ago. It is surprising that although this is such a difficult sport, women are not fairly evaluated. I. – Yes, is it tough, because although on a physical level is it almost impossible to compare our strength to that of men, women make up for it with technique. D. – We are often compared with men because we have a lot of control but men naturally have more strength than we have. We have our own style and we are just as radical with our work, but…we are women!

Wir arbeiten auf dem Meer! FMHOY - Fuerteventura Nach Abschluss des Kurses, den die Schwestern Daida und Iballa gegeben haben, konnten wir einige Minuten mit ihnen sprechen und mehr über diese internationalen Sportlerinnen erfahren, die die Kanaren auf der ganzen Welt vertreten. Wann haben Sie angefangen, diesen Sport zu treiben? Dayda – Mit 17, relativ spät im Vergleich zu den Kindern, die im Alter zwischen 8 und 10 Jahren anfangen. Heute gibt es Material und Schulen für Kinder. Wir hatten diese Möglichkeit nicht. Sie wurden auf Gran Canaria geboren. Stimmt das? D.- Ja, am Strand Playa de Pozo Izquierdo, einem international berühmten Strand für das Windsurfen. Von klein auf haben wir die Surfer gesehen, aber wir dachten, dass das nur etwas für Touristen und für die Elite wäre. Iballa – Es gab keine Gleichaltrigen, die diesen Sport betrieben, und keine Schulen. Dieser Sport war unserer Kultur fremd, und in unserem Ort übte ihn niemand aus. Wie haben Sie angefangen? Hatten Sie einen Lehrer? D.- Das war seltsam. Von klein auf vergnügten wir uns mit einem Wellenbrett. Es war immer windig, und der Wind war unser Feind. Eines Tages sahen wir, wie ein Anwohner von Pozo ein großes und schweres Surfbrett für Anfänger wegschmiss. Als er uns sah, bot er es uns an. Wir probierten es. Zusammen mit drei Freundinnen verbrachten wir die Nachmittage damit und wechselten uns jede halbe Stunde ab, denn wir hatten ja nur ein Segel und ein Brett. Ohne Lehrer und ohne Erfahrung? I.- Wir übten ganz allein; wir orientierten uns an dem, was wir uns bei den Touristen abgeguckt hatten, und lernten auch etwas aus Zeitschriften. Zwei Jahre später machten wir bei internationalen Wettkämpfen mit. Sie hatten Glück, dass Sie sich beide für den gleichen Sport begeistert haben. Sie haben sich doch sicher gegenseitig motiviert. I.- Wir waren immer sehr sportlich, wir haben zusammen Athletik gemacht, außerdem haben wir fünf oder sechs Jahre lang Basketball gespielt. Wir hatten immer die gleichen Leidenschaften. D.- Ja, die Tatsache, dass wir alles zusammen gemacht haben, hat uns sehr geholfen. Seit 97 machen wir bei Wettkämpfen mit, und wir haben das immer zusammen gemacht. Wie oft haben Sie bei internationalen Wettkämpfen gekämpft?

I.- 1997 war der erste internationale Wettkampf, ich wurde Dritte im Surfen. Das sind insgesamt 13 Jahre. D.- Ich habe mich vor kurzem von einer Verletzung am Knie erholt, wegen der ich ein Jahr lang nicht surfen konnte. Seit 1998 haben wir unsere eigenen Sponsoren. Damals machten wir das volle Programm, das aus den verschiedenen Prüfungen besteht, man machen muss, um genügend Punkte fürs Finale zu haben. Dabei muss man viel reisen, und das ist ohne Sponsoren unmöglich. I.- Hier auf den Kanaren finden zwar einige der Prüfungen des internationalen Programms statt, aber man muss reisen, um Erfahrungen an unterschiedlichen Orten zu machen, verschiedene Meere und Wetterbedingungen kennenzulernen: Kälte, Hitze, Wellen, Wind usw. Obwohl Sie sehr jung sind, haben Sie schon viele verschiedene Länder bereist. Stimmt das? I.- Wir kennen Japan, Australien, Indonesien, Hawaii, die USA und fast alle europäischen Länder. Im November werde ich zum ersten Mal nach Brasilien reisen, wo ich noch nie gewesen bin. D.- Ich habe einer Freundin bei einem Gespräch erzählt, dass wir gereift sind, weil wir so viel in verschiedenen Ländern gereist sind. Diese Erfahrung hat uns genutzt, um Freundschaften in der ganzen Welt zu schließen und ein anderes Leben zu führen. Wir arbeiten auf dem Meer! Aber vor allem in den letzten Jahren haben wir unsere Freundschaften zuhause schätzen gelernt, denn wir sind etwas sesshafter geworden. Jetzt genießen wir mehr denn je das Leben hier.

I.- So gut wie auf den Kanaren kann man nirgends auf der Welt leben. Nachdem wir so viele Orte kennengelernt haben, schätzen wir unsere Heimat noch mehr. Stimmt es, dass das Windsurfmilieu relativ chauvinistisch ist? D.- Ja, absolut, es gibt erhebliche Unterschiede zwischen den Geldpreisen bei den Meisterschaften für Männer und für Frauen. Die großen Sportunternehmen machen einen Unterschied zwischen Männern und Frauen, obwohl wir Frauen immer mehr werden und uns ständig verbessern. Wir müssen weiter kämpfen. Obwohl wir 19 internationale Titel haben, verdient ein Fünfzehnjähriger, der nur eine Meisterschaft gewonnen hat und kein volles Programm, schon mehr als wir. I.- Wir haben Glück, dass uns Caja Canarias, Volkswagen, die Gemeinde von Santa Lucia, Baker & Makenzie, Starboard, Severne, Islas Canarias, Dwarf8, Flying Objets und Roxi sponsern. Sonst hätten wir schon vor langer Zeit aufgeben müssen. Es ist überraschend, dass Frauen in diesem harten Sport nicht angemessen geschätzt werden. I.-Ja, es ist hart, denn auf körperlicher Ebene ist es in dieser harten Sportart fast unmöglich, uns mit den Männern zu messen. Wir Frauen gleichen das durch Technik aus, und außerdem lernen wir schneller. D.- Wir werden oft mit Jungs verglichen, denn wir haben alles unter Kontrolle. Aber wegen ihrer Konstitution haben die Jungs mehr Kraft. Wir haben einen eigenen Stil und sind bei unserer Arbeit genauso radikal, aber wir sind Frauen!

VISITANDO LA ISLA / VISITING THE ISLAND / BESUCH DER INSEL

La villa de Santa María de Betancuria FMHOY - Fuerteventura La villa de Santa María de Betancuria fue fundada por los conquistadores normandos hacia el año 1404. Betancuria, junto con Rubicón en Lanzarote, fueron las primeras ciudades fundadas por los europeos en Canarias y tomó su nombre del propio conquistador, Jean de Bethencourt. Fue capital de la isla y sede del Cabildo hasta la primera mitad del siglo XIX. Las principales entidades de población del municipio son Betancuria, Vega de Río Palmas y Valle de Santa Inés. Historia Su emplazamiento en un valle interior, alejado de la costa y rodeado de montañas, se debe por una parte, a su fertilidad, presencia de agua y riqueza vegetal, en el contexto insular; y, por otra, a que esta ubicación ofrecía cierta seguridad y permitía una mejor defensa ante posibles ataques piráticos. Las primeras edificaciones que se levantaron durante el proceso de conquista fueron una torre defensiva denominada Valtarajal y una ermita, en la que el conquistador Jean de Bethencourt colocó en el año 1405 una imagen de la Virgen que había traído de Francia, aunque en la actualidad no se conservan estas construcciones. Hacia el año 1410 se levantó la iglesia de Santa María, erigida en parroquia única de la isla hasta el siglo XVIII. En el territorio que actualmente pertenece al municipio de Betancuria se levantaron las ermitas de Santa Catalina, San Salvador, Santas Justa y Rufina, San Diego, San Sebastián, Santa Inés, Ntra. Sra. de la Peña y la iglesia del convento de San Buenaventura. Con las reformas administrativas del siglo XIX Betancuria pasó a ser el municipio de menor extensión territorial de la isla. Pero su dilatada trayectoria histórica dejó su impronta en la pervivencia de un rico patrimonio cultural y artístico, que ha determinado la declaración de Betancuria como Conjunto Histórico en el año 1979. Actualmente el municipio de Betancuria está formado por los pueblos de Valle de Santa Inés, Vega de Río Palmas y la villa histórica de Betancuria, sede del ayuntamiento y capital municipal. Vega del Río Palmas Río de Palmas es el nombre que dieron los conquistadores normandos a este lugar, por la gran cantidad de palmeras que presentaba este valle y los manantiales de agua presentes en la zona. La Vega de Río de Palmas consta de dos núcleos separados por el Barranco de Río Palmas. El primero se encuentra situado en la margen derecha del barranco, concentrando la mayor parte de la población y tierras de cultivo. Este núcleo, conocido como La Banda, es el más antiguo y contó con una ermita bajo la advocación de San Sebastián, de la que se existen noticias desde 1550 hasta 1959, fecha en que desapareció definitivamente. El segundo núcleo, más moderno, aparece vincu-

lado a la construcción de la ermita de la Virgen de la Peña, Patrona de la isla. Se ubica en la margen izquierda del barranco y la mayoría de las edificaciones se encuentran alineadas alrededor de la ermita. Las primeras casas que se levantaron alrededor del santuario fueron las celdas de los romeros y datan de mediados del siglo XVIII, de las que se contabilizaban seis a finales del siglo XIX. La importancia que adquirió Vega de Río Palmas en la vida insular viene dada por la aparición y devoción a la Virgen de la Peña, Patrona de la isla. La tradición popular ubica el lugar donde apareció la virgen de la Peña en el Barranco de las Peñitas, en la zona conocida como Malpaso. En el año 1497 ya existía por allí un pequeño santuario al que acudían los devotos a venerarla. En 1586 ya se había trasladado la imagen a una ermita que se construyó en su honor en el pueblo de Vega de Río Palmas. Valle de Santa Inés El Otro Valle, nombre con el que se conocía inicial-

mente el actual Valle de Santa Inés, fue probablemente el segundo asentamiento que se efectuó en Fuerteventura tras la fundación de Betancuria. Se sabe poco acerca de la evolución del primitivo asentamiento del Otro Valle en los siglos posteriores a la Conquista normanda, pero a finales del siglo XVI, en 1580, se tienen noticias de la existencia de un santuario que albergaba las imágenes de Santa Inés y de San Bartolomé.

The village of Santa María de Betancuria FMHOY - Fuerteventura The village of Santa María de Betancuria was created by Norman conquerors around 1404. Betancuria as well as Rubicón in Lanzarote were the first towns created by Europeans in the Canaries and got its name from the conqueror himself, Jean de Bethencourt. It was the capital of the island and the Cabildo’s headquarters until the first half of the 19th century. The population of the municipality is mainly concentrated in Betancuria, Vega de Río Palmas and Valle de Santa Inés. History The choice of its situation in an interior valley, away from the coast and surrounded by mountains is partly due to the fertility, presence of water and vegetal wealth, in the context of an island; and it is also due to the fact that this situation provided safety and made defence easier against possible pirate attacks. The first buildings erected during the conquering period were a defence tower called Valtarajal and a chapel where the conqueror Jean de Bethencourt placed in 1405 the picture of the Virgin Mary which he had brought from France, although nowadays those buildings no longer stand. Around 1410, the church of Santa Maria was built in the unique Parrish of the island until the 18th century. On this territory that belongs to the Municipality of Betancuria the following chapels were built: Santa Catalina, San Salvador, Santas Justa y Rufina, San Diego, San Sebastán, Santa Inés, Nuestra Señora de la Peña and the church of the convent of San Buenavenura. Because of the administrative changes of the 19th century, Betancuria became a municipality with the smallest territory of the island. But its long historic path ensured its status for the preservation of the rich cultural and artistic heritage it contains and Betancuria was declared Historical Site of Interest in 1979. The municipality of Betancuria currently consists of the villages of Valle de Santa Inés, Vega de Río Palmas and the historical town of Betancuria, municipal capital and where the Ayuntamiento is situated.

Vega del Río Palmas Río de Palmas was the name that Norman conquerors gave to this site because of the large quantity of palm trees found there and the water springs present in the area. La Vega de Río Palmas consists of two halves separated by the Barranco de Río Palmas. The first is situated on the right hand side of the barranco which is where most of the population and cultivating land can be found. This half is known as La Banda, it is the oldest and where the chapel of San Sebastián used to be situated, data can be found about it between 1550 and 1959 which is when it disappeared completely. The second half, more modern, seems to be linked with the construction if the chapel of Virgen de la Peña, Patron Saint of the Island. It is situated on the left hand side of the barranco and most buildings are situated around the chapel. The first houses that were built around this sanctuary were destined to the pilgrims and date back to half way through the 18th century, of which six remained at the end of the 19th century.

The importance that Vega de Río Palmas acquired in the island’s life is due to the apparition and devotion to the Virgin de la Peña, Patron Saint of the island. The island’s tradition says that the site where the Virgin de la Peña appeared was in Barranco de las Peñitas in the area known as Malpaso. In 1497 a small sanctuary already existed where pious people used to worship. In 1586 the picture had already been moved to a chapel that was built in her honour in the village of Vega de Río Palmas. Valle de Santa Inés The “Other Valley” (Otro Valle) was the name initially known for what is now Valle de Santa Inés, which was probably the second settlement site in Fuerteventura after the creation of Betancuria. Very little in known about the evolution of the primitive settlement of “Otro Valle” during the centuries before the Norman conquest, but at the end of the 16th century, in 1580, there are reports of the existence of a chapel that contained pictures of Santa Inés and San Bartolomé.

Die Stadt Santa María de Betancuria wurde von den normannischen Eroberern ungefähr im Jahr 1404 gegründet. Betancuria und Rubicón auf Lanzarote waren die ersten Städte, die von den Europäern auf den Kanaren gegründet wurden. Der Ort wurde nach seinem Eroberer Jean de Bethencourt benannt. Bis ins XIX. Jahrhundert war er Hauptstadt der Insel und Sitz des Cabildo. Die wichtigsten Orte der Gemeinde sind Betancuria, Vega de Río Palmas und Valle de Santa Inés. Geschichte Der Ort liegt mitten in einem Tal, weit von der Küste entfernt, von Bergen umgeben. Der Ort verdankte seine Position unter anderem seiner Fruchtbarkeit; es gibt Wasser und eine reichhaltige Vegetation. Außerdem gewährleistete diese Lage eine gewisse Sicherheit und es war leichter, den Ort gegen die Angriffe der Piraten zu verteidigen. Die ersten Gebäude, die während der Eroberung errichtet wurden, waren ein Verteidigungsturm, der Valtarajal genannt wurde, und eine Wallfahrtskapelle, in der der Eroberer Jean de Bethencourt 1405 eine Statue der Heiligen Jungfrau aufstellte, die er aus Frankreich mitgebracht hatte. Diese Gebäude sind heute nicht mehr erhalten. Um 1410 wurde die Kirche Santa María errichtet, bis zum XVIII. Jahrhundert die einzige Pfarrkirche der Insel. Auf dem Gelände, das heute zur Gemeinde von Betancuria gehört, wurden die Wallfahrtskapellen Santa Catalina, San Salvador, Santas Justa y Rufina, San Diego, San Sebastián, Santa Inés, Ntra. Sra. de la Peña und die Kirche des Klosters Convento de San Buenaventura errichtet. Nach den Verwaltungsreformen im XIX. Jahrhundert wurde Betancuria zur Gemeinde der Insel mit dem

kleinsten Territorium. Aber aufgrund ihrer Geschichte besitzt sie ein bedeutendes kulturelles und künstlerisches Erbe. Deshalb wurde Betancuria 1979 zum historischen Komplex erklärt. Heute besteht die Gemeinde von Betancuria aus den Orten Valle de Santa Inés, Vega de Río Palmas und der historischen Villa de Betancuria, der Hauptstadt der Gemeinde, in der sich auch das Rathaus befindet. Vega del Río Palmas Den Namen Río de Palmas gaben die normannischen Eroberer diesem Ort wegen der vielen Palmen, die es in dem Tal gibt, und weil die Gegend reich an Wasserquellen ist. La Vega de Río de Palmas besteht aus zwei Ortskernen, die durch die Schlucht des Rio Palmas getrennt werden. Im Ortsteil auf der rechten Seite der Schlucht lebt der größte Teil der Bevölkerung und dort sind auch die meisten Felder. Dieser Ortsteil, der als La

Banda bekannt ist, ist der älteste. Hier gab es früher eine Wallfahrtskapelle, die dem heiligen Sebastian geweiht war und von der es Belege aus der Zeit zwischen 1550 bis 1959 gibt. In diesem Jahr wurde sie endgültig zerstört. Der zweite Ortsteil ist moderner, und scheint mit dem Bau der Wallfahrtskapelle Ermita de la Virgen de la Peña, der Schutzherrin der Insel, verbunden zu sein. Sie liegt auf der linken Seite des Barranco, und die Mehrzahl der Gebäude befindet sich in der Umgebung der Ermita. Die ersten Häuser, die dort in der Mitte des XVIII. Jahrhunderts gebaut wurden, enthielten Zellen für Pilger. Ende des XIX. Jahrhundert gab es sechs dieser davon. Die Bedeutung von Vega de Río Palmas für das Leben der Insel geht auf die Erscheinung und die Verehrung der Virgen de la Peña, der Schutzheiligen der Insel, zurück. Es ist wenig über die Entwicklung dieser primitiven Siedlung in den Jahrhunderten nach der normannischen Eroberung bekannt, aber am Ende des XVI. Jahrhunderts, im Jahr 1580, gibt es Zeugnisse eines Sanktuariums mit den Heiligenstatuen der Santa Inés und des San Bartolomé.

“El deporte es un elemento motivador, socializante e integrador para las personas con discapacidad” Discreta y trabajadora incansable, Isabelle Janssens de Varebeke es la presidenta de Tri W.W.W. Esta asociación benéfica, ubicada en Lanzarote, se dedica a ayudar a la gente con discapacidad – movilidad reducida y diversidad funcional, a través del deporte. “Queremos que el deporte permita a estas personas encontrar motivaciones, tanto practicándolo como colaborando en calidad de voluntario. Además, también queremos promover y apoyar las investigaciones científicas que buscan la mejora de la vida de las personas con discapacidad, tanto en la búsqueda de remedios a las enfermedades que producen discapacidades como en la búsqueda de herramientas y productos que faciliten la vida de estas personas”, explica Isa. Con esta intención, y conscientes de que tienen un amplio terreno que abarcar, Tri W.W.W. se hermanó con la Fundación Ataxia de Friedreich en Movimiento para formar un frente común y más potente en la consecución de unos objetivos “Estamos convencidos que tanto la cura como la recuperación de enfermos están relacionados con el deporte”, afirma con seguridad y fe en su labor. Actualmente, Tri W.W.W. tiene su ámbito de actuación en el archipiélago canario. Sin embargo, también acuden desde Canarias a eventos fuera de las islas, con sus atletas y voluntarios especiales, ya que “los viajes resultan muy motivadores para todos”. EL DEPORTE Y LA DISCAPACIDAD “El deporte es esencial en el sano desarrollo de toda persona, pero en gente con discapacidad quizás aun más. Es un elemento motivador, socializante, integrador. Además, todo tratamiento se ve cristalizado en salud y bienestar gracias a mucha actividad física y mental. El deporte proporciona aliciente, motivación e ilusión a quien está sometido a rehabilitación”, argumenta la presidenta de la asociación. Y es que Isa trabaja de forma incansable junto a su equipo, y la gente que los apoya, para lograr la incorporación al deporte de personas con discapacidad. Para la consecución de este objetivo se financian con las cuotas de los socios, (30 € el primer año y luego 25 € anuales), la venta de camisetas (10 €), la venta de números de rifas y los patrocinios de empresas privadas. Todo, con un único fin: apoyar a los verdaderos protagonistas, las personas con discapacidad que crecen a través del deporte. “Tenemos a grandes deportistas con discapacidad como embajadores para demostrarlo: Rafa Botello, atleta paralímpico de Barcelona que estuvo en Beijing compitiendo en maratón o el triatleta francés Stéphane Rouyer para quien el deporte es su mejor medicina y su mejor tratamiento contra la adrenoleucodistrofia que padece”, argumenta. APOYOS Y SUBVENCIONES Isa es consciente de que el sueño que persigue Tri W.W.W. es ambicioso y sabe que el camino que queda por recorrer es aún muy largo. “Estamos pendientes de las subvenciones que salgan… y debemos pre-

sentar proyectos en más lugares, pero queda mucho trabajo por hacer”, comenta. Por el momento, han presentado un proyecto al Gobierno de Canarias para atletas y voluntarios especiales, “que confiamos recibir”. Mientras tanto, cuentan con apoyos puntuales de empresas privadas para las rifas y con la esponsorización de Sands Beach Resort y el Club La Santa. Además, participan activamente en multitud de eventos deportivos, como el Triatlón de la Mujer de la Federación Canaria de Triatlón, el Music Marathon Festival o el Ocean Lava de Kenneth Gasque, donde son invitados por los organizadores gracias a la efectividad de su labor y la entrega de todo el equipo en cada una de sus acciones. Una labor, que queda reflejada en medios que les apoyan con cobertura mediática como Sportraining y la revista Trisense. PROYECTOS ACTUALES En los proyectos de Tri W.W.W. hay atletas sin discapacidad comprometidos con su tiempo y con

sus aportaciones como Eneko Llanos y Gregorio Cáceres. Recientemente, el triatleta vasco participó en el Ocean Lava, donde compitió por relevos en un equipo formado junto a dos chicos con discapacidad. “Fue una experiencia maravillosa. Eneko participó junto a Andrés Martín, de 16 años y con parálisis cerebral, que hizo el segmento de natación. Eneko hacía la bici y Fran Toledo, de 33 años, la parte de medio maratón en silla de ruedas. Para estos dos chicos fue como un sueño hecho realidad”, explica Isa con satisfacción. Un sueño más cumplido, pero muchos aún por cumplir, por lo que Tri W.W.W. ya mira al futuro de frente y sin miedo, solo con la ilusión que produce luchar por una causa de tal magnitud. El Music Marathon Festival del 30 de octubre y el Marathon de Lanzarote del 28 de noviembre se encuentran en su horizonte más cercano. En esta competición, participarán en la categoría de silla de ruedas gracias a la subvención del Gobierno de Canarias y el Sands Beach Resort.

This charity association, located in Lanzarote, is dedicated to helping people with disabilities – reduced mobility and functional diversity, through sports. “We aim to get sports to bring motivation to those people, both by practising it and by collaborating as volunteers. Furthermore, we wish to promote and support scientific research that works for life improvements of people with disabilities, both by looking for cures for diseases that cause disabilities and by looking for tools and products that make their life easier”, explains Isa. With this in mind, and conscious that they have a large task at hand, Tri W.W.W. has joined forces with the Foundation Ataxia de Friedreich en Movimiento to create a strong common front for the creation of objectives “We are convinced that both the cure and the recovery of people with illnesses are linked with sports”, she says firmly with faith in her work. Currently, Tri W.W.W. acts within the Canaries Archipelago. However, they also attend events outside the islands with athletes and specialist volunteers, because “travelling motivates everyone”. SPORTS AND DISABILITY “Sports are essential for the healthy development of anyone, but maybe even more for people with disabilities. It helps them with their motivation, social life and integration. Furthermore, all treatments are transformed in recovery and wellbeing thanks to a lot of physical and mental activity. Sports bring incentives, motivation and hope to those who are in recovery”, says the association’s president. Isa works tirelessly with her team and people who support them in order to introduce people with disabilities to sports. For this objective to materialise, funds come from the members yearly fees, (30€ for the first year and 25€ thereafter), sale of shirts (10€), sale of numerous raffles tickets and sponsoring from private businesses.

All this has one unique objective: to support true protagonists, people with disabilities who improve thanks to sports. “We have great athletes with disabilities who are ambassadors to demonstrate this: Raffa Botello, paralympic athlete from Barcelona who was in Beijing competing in the marathon or the French triathlete Stéphane Rouyer, for whom sports has been the best medicine and treatment against adrenoleukodystrophy which he suffers from”, she says. SUPPORT AND GRANTS Isa knows that the objective that Tri W.W.W. is pursuing is ambitious and she knows that the path ahead is long. “We depend on the grants that are available… and we must present projects in more places, but we still have a lot of work to do”, she adds. For the moment, they have presented a project at the Canaries Government for athletes and special volunteers, “which we believe we will be granted”. Meanwhile, they rely on punctual help from private businesses for raffles and sponsoring for Sands

Beach Resort and Club La Santa. Furthermore, they participate actively in many sports events, such as the Women Triathlon from the Canarian Thriathlon Federation, the Music Marathon Festival or the Ocean Lava from Kenneth Gasque, where they are invited by the organisers for the efficiency of their work and the availability of the whole team in every event. This work also gets support from media coverage such as Sportraining and Trisense. Current projects In Tri W.W.W. projects there are also athletes without disabilities who dedicate time and efforts such as Eneko Llanos and Gregorio Cáceres. Recently, the Basque athlete participated in Ocean Lava where he competed in the relay race in a team that consisted of two men with disabilities. “It was a great experience. Eneko participated with Andrés Martín, aged 16, who has cerebral palsy who completed the swimming stage. Eneko completed the cycling stage and Fran Toledo, aged 33, completed the half marathon in a wheelchair. For those two men it was like a dream come true”, explained Isa with satisfaction. Yet another dream turned into reality, but there is so much more to achieve, which means that Tri W.W.W. are already looking towards the future without fear, they only feel the hope brought on by their fight for such a great cause. The Music Marathon Festival of 30th October and Lanzarote Marathon of 28th November are getting close; they will participate in this competition in the wheelchair category thanks to the grant from the Canarian Government and Sands Beach Resort.

Dieser Wohltätigkeitsverein mit Sitz auf Lanzarote hilft Menschen mit Behinderungen - Mobilitätsbeeinträchtigung und funktionaler Diversität - durch den Sport. “Wir möchten erreichen, dass diese Menschen durch den Sport motiviert werden und diesen sowohl treiben als auch als Freiwillige mitarbeiten. Außerdem möchten wir wissenschaftliche Untersuchungen fördern und unterstützen, durch die die Lebensqualität der Behinderten verbessert wird. Sowohl bei der Forschung nach Mitteln gegen die Krankheiten, die zu Behinderungen führen, als auch bei der Suche nach Mitteln, die diesen Menschen das Leben erleichtern”, erklärt Isa. Mit dieser Absicht und mit dem Bewusstsein, dass es viel zu tun gibt, schloss sich Tri W.W.W. mit dem Verein Fundación Ataxia de Friedreich en Movimiento zusammen, um sich gemeinsam und mit mehr Kraft für eines ihrer Ziele einzusetzen. Sie erklärt mit Überzeugung: „Wir sind davon überzeugt, dass sowohl die Heilung als auch die Rehabilitation von Kranken mit dem Sport zu tun hat.” Heute ist Tri W.W.W. im kanarischen Archipel tätig, aber sie nehmen mit ihren Athleten und mit ihren Freiwilligen auch an Veranstaltungen außerhalb der kanarischen Inseln teil, denn „diese Reisen sind sehr motivierend für alle”.

SPORT UND BEHINDERUNG „Sport ist sehr wichtig für die gesunde Entwicklung aller Personen, aber für Behinderte ist er vielleicht noch wichtiger. Er motiviert, sozialisiert und integriert. Außerdem führt so viel körperliche und geistige Arbeit zu Gesundheit und Wohlbefinden. Der Sport ist ein Anreiz und eine Motivation für diejenigen, die Rehabilitation machen”, erklärt die Präsidentin des Vereins. Isa arbeitet unermüdlich mit ihrem Team und mit den Leuten, die sie unterstützen, um zu erreichen, dass Behinderte Sport treiben. Um dieses Ziel zu erreichen, finanzieren sie sich mit den Mitgliedsbeiträgen (30 € im ersten Jahr und dann 25 € im Jahr), dem Verkauf von T-Shirts (10 €), dem Verkauf von Losen und der Unterstützung von privaten Firmen. All dies geschieht zu einem einzigen Zweck: Zu unterstützen, dass sich Behinderte durch Sport entwickeln. Sie erklärt: „Wir haben großartige behinderte Sportler, die dies bewiesen haben: Rafa Botello, ein behinderter Athlet aus Barcelona, der am Marathon

Sie haben ein Projekt für Athleten und für Freiwi-

llige bei der Regierung der Kanaren eingereicht “que confiamos recibir”. Sie nehmen auch aktiv an zahlreichen Sportveranstaltungen teil, zum Beispiel am Triathlon für Frauen der kanarischen Triathlon-Föderation, dem Music Marathon Festival und dem Ocean Lava von Kenneth Gasque, wo die Veranstalter sie wegen ihrer effizienten Arbeit und dem ständigen Engagement ihrer gesamten Mannschaft eingeladen worden sind[haben??? - Original]. Über ihre Tätigkeit wird in Medien wie Sportraining und der Zeitschrift Trisense berichtet. AKTUELLE PROJEKTE An den Projekten von Tri W.W.W. sind auch nichtbehinderte Athleten beteiligt, die ihre Zeit und ihr Wissen zur Verfügung stellen, zu diesen gehören Eneko Llanos und Gregorio Cáceres. Vor kurzem nahm der baskische Triathlet am Ocean Lava teil, wo er gemeinsam mit zwei behinderten Jungs kämpfte. “Es war eine wunderbare Erfahrung. Eneko kämpfte zusammen mit dem 16-jährigen Andrés Martín, der parálisis cerebral[???] hat und die Schwimmstrecke ad[??????] zurücklegte. Eneko legte die Strecke auf dem Fahrrad zurück und der 33-jährige Fran Toledo den halben Marathon im Rollstuhl. Für diese beiden Jungen ist ein Traum Wirklichkeit geworden”, erklärt Isa zufrieden. Mein Traum hat sich mehr als erfüllt, aber es gibt noch viel zu tun, deshalb schaut Tri W.W.W. der Zukunft ohne Angst ins Auge. Wir kämpfen gern für eine so wichtige Sache. Das Music Marathon Festival am 30. Oktober und der Marathon von Lanzarote am 28 November gehören zu den nächsten Veranstaltungen. An diesem Wettkampf nehmen sie dank der Subventionen der Regierung der Kanaren und des Sands Beach Resort teil.

Exhibición de peinados y maquillajes en Gran Tarajal FMHOY - Fuerteventura Hemos asistido, en la semana de la juventud en Gran Tarajal, a una exhibición de peinados y maquillajes de diferentes firmas. Nos ha sorprendido gratamente y hemos querido saber más sobre la creadora de uno de los desfiles que presenciamos con una original puesta en escena, Dory Monroy. Un grupo de bellas jóvenes de la escuela de baile Danzarte, pusieron vida y ritmo actuando como modelos a las creaciones de peinados y recogidos que presentó la estilista. ¿Dory cuantos años de profesión, para llegar a este nivel de creatividad? Empecé con 17 años en Gran Canaria. Trabajé en el sur en una peluquería cuya dueña era alemana y allí

Actualmente tengo un nuevo y moderno local, con la imagen que yo pienso que debe tener una moderna peluquería, pero siempre estuve aquí aportando a mis clientes todas mis técnicas.

estuve 12 años. Justo en la anterior “gran crisis” mi jefa cerró, y yo estuve trabajando unos dos años más en un pequeño negocio de peluquería que instalé. Luego el destino me trajo aquí. ¿Entonces nació en Las Palmas? Soy canaria y casi majorera, pues llevo en Fuerteventura unos dieciséis años. ¿Siempre ha trabajado en Gran Tarajal? Sí, salvo un año que estuve dando clases de formación en el municipio de Pájara.

Su peluquería atiende tanto hombre como mujeres y niños, ¿no es así? Desde luego y en todos los casos, siempre procuro ser innovadora. A veces me he adelantado años a la moda, como ocurrió con los cortes de pelo de los chicos jóvenes con esas crestas y colores que ahora ya usan casi todos. Si tuviera que elegir dentro de su especialidad, ¿en que se considera especialmente cualificada? Me gusta todo de mi profesión, pero creo que donde más puedo destacar es en los cortes de pelo y en los tintes de color, por ese orden. Ambas técnicas las he trabajado muchísimo, tomando cursos constantemente y asistiendo a congresos fuera de las islas. Opino que la base de un peinado radica en la comodidad y esta a su vez tiene como principio un corte bien hecho. ¿Podría mencionarnos algunos de los cursos realizados? Por supuesto: En cortes y peinados me especialicé con Vidal Sassoon, Nadir Estudios, Toni & Jordi, Luis Ibarra, entre otros estilistas de reconocida imagen. También hice cursos de posticeria y recogido con Noelia & Olga y, maquillaje y depilación eléctrica con las empresas Bruno Vassari y Sorisa. Tiene un importante currículo… Actualmente estar al día y tomar cursos de perfeccionamiento está al alcance de todo el que lo deseé, pero cuando yo comencé, sólo el salir de las

islas hacia distantes ciudades y países ya era un reto importante. Además me he especializado también como cosmetóloga, que como sabrán, es el cuidado del cuero cabelludo y sus anomalías, (caída de pelo, caspa, etc.) También soy esteticista, aunque no me he dedicado tanto como a la peluquería. Como cosmetóloga, ¿aconseja a sus clientes que deben usar? Sí, pero de forma muy prudente. El público esta asustado por tantos peluqueros que parecen que su negocio es sólo vender productos, en vez de dar un buen servicio. Yo intento concienciarlos de que deben saber qué usan y distinguir la diferencia de calidad de unos productos a otros, pero no quiero que se sientan presionados en ningún momento. Para mi es importante que mis clientes se sientan confiados conmigo. Volviendo al desfile que hemos presenciado, ¿cuál era la idea de su presentación? Aunque se han mostrado los peinados como recogidos para novias en distintos tipos de imagen y facciones, también son recogidos para cualquier ocasión, fáciles, juveniles y rápidos. Mostrar cortes en una presentación de este tipo no es posible. Sería excesivo pedirles a las modelos, que tan bien han paseado mis creaciones en el escenario, que se cortasen el pelo a mi gusto. ¿No piensa que está creando escuela, al formar también a su hija en su profesión? Sí, ella está terminando sus estudios, ya se formó como maquilladora y también hizo pedicura y manicura. Se le da bien y me ayuda mucho en la peluquería. Espero poder transmitirla toda mi experiencia.

Exhibition of hair styling and make-up in Gran Tarajal FMHOY - Fuerteventura During Youth Week in Gran Tarajal, we attended an exhibition of hair styling and make-up from various businesses. We were pleasantly surprised and we wanted to find out more about the creator of one of those shows that was staged in a very original manner, Dory Monroy. A group of pretty young women from the Danzarte dance school gave life and rhythm acting as models for the creations of hairstyles presented by the stylist. Dory, how many years experience has it taken for you to get to this level of creativity? I started at 17 years of age in Gran Canaria. I worked in the south in a hairdressing salon where the owner was German and I stayed there for 12 years. Just before the “big crisis” my boss closed the salon and I worked for two more years in a small hairdressing salon that I set up. Then, destiny brought me here.

Your CV is impressive… Currently, being up to date and having continuous training is available to anyone who wants it, but when I started leaving the island to get to other cities and countries was quite a challenge. Furthermore I am a specialist in cosmetology, which is the care for the scalp and its anomalies (hair loss, dandruff, etc). I am also a beautician although I don’t dedicate myself to it as much as hairdressing. As a specialist in cosmetology, do you advise your clients on what to use? Yes I do, but very carefully. The public is used to seeing so many hairdressers who look like their main business is selling products instead of providing good services. I try to make people aware of what they should be using and knowing the difference between the quality of some products compared to others, but I don’t want them to feel under pressure at anytime. I want my clients to trust me. Going back to the show, what was the idea behind the presentation? Although we showed hair buns for brides on various pictures, they are hairstyles that can be worn on any occasions, easy, young and quickly done. To show haircuts in a presentation of this type is not possible. It would be over the top asking models who showed my creations to cut their hair according to my taste. Don’t you think you are creating a school by training your daughter to your trade? Yes, she is finishing her studies and has already trained as a make-up artist and for pedicures and manicures. She is doing very well and helps me a lot on the salon. I hope I can pass on all my experience to her.

Frisuren-und Make-up-Modenschau in Gran Tarajal FMHOY - Fuerteventura Wir haben während der Woche der Jugend in Gran Tarajal an eine Darbietung verschiedener Frisuren und Make-ups verschiedener Marken gesehen. Wir waren angenehm überrascht und wollten mehr über Dory Monroy, die Gestalterin einer dieser FrisurenModenschauen mit Szenographie, wissen. Eine Gruppe schöner, junger Mädchen der Tanzschule Danzarte trat als Models für die Frisuren der Stilistin auf. Dory,wie viele Jahre haben Sie diesen Beruf ausgeübt, bevor Sie so kreativ wurden? Ich habe als 17-Jährige auf Gran Canaria angefangen. Ich habe im Süden im Friseursalon einer Deutschen gearbeitet, dort blieb ich 12 Jahre. Meine Chefin schloss ihren Laden während der vorherigen „großen Krise” und ich arbeitete ungefähr zwei Jahre lang in einem kleineren Friseursalon, den ich eröffnete. Dann brachte mich das Schicksal hierher.

Also wurden Sie auf Las Palmas geboren? Ich bin Kanarierin und fast eine Einheimische auf Fuerteventura, denn ich lebe schon seit sechzehn Jahren hier. Haben Sie immer in Gran Tarajal gearbeitet? Ja, nur ein Jahre lang habe ich in der Gemeinde von Pájara unterrichtet. Jetzt habe ich ein neues, modernes Geschäft, das so aussieht, wie ein moderner Friseursalon meiner Meinung nach eingerichtet sein sollte. Hier habe ich meinen Kunden alle meine Techniken angeboten. Stimmt es, dass Ihr Friseursalon für Männer, Frauen und Kinder ist? Natürlich, und ich bemühe mich immer, bahnbrechend zu sein. Manchmal war ich der Mode um Jahre voraus. Zum Beispiel bei den Haarschnitten für Jungs mit diesen Hahnenkämmen und Farben, die inzwischen fast alle verwenden.

Wenn Sie zwischen allen Ihren Qualifikationen wählen sollten, in welcher fühlten Sie sich besonders kompetent? Mir machen alle Bereiche meines Berufes Spaß, aber ich glaube, dass ich besonders gut bei den Haarschnitten und im Färben bin. Ich habe sehr viel Erfahrung mit diesen beiden Techniken, und habe an Kursen und Kongressen außerhalb der Insel teilgenommen. Ich bin der Meinung, dass das Wesentliche der Haarschnitte die Bequemlichkeit ist, und dass diese davon abhängt, dass der Schnitt gut gemacht ist. Könnten Sie einige der Kurse erwähnen, an denen Sie teilgenommen haben? Natürlich. In Haarschnitten und Frisuren habe ich mich bei anerkannten Stilisten spezialisiert, unter anderem bei Vidal Sassoon, Nadir Estudios, Toni & Jordi, Luis Ibarra. Ich habe auch Friseurkurse bei Noelia & Olga gemacht, und Kurse für Make-up und elektrische Depilation bei den Firmen Bruno Vassari und Sorisa. Sie haben einen vielseitigen Lebenslauf … Heute kann jeder, der das möchte, auf dem neuesten Stand sein und an Fortbildungskursen teilnehmen. Als ich angefangen habe, war es schon eine große Herausforderung, die Inseln zu verlassen, um in entfernte Städte und Länder zu gehen. Außerdem bin ich auch auf die Pflege der Kopfhaut und deren Anomalien (Haarausfall, Schuppen usw.) spezialisiert. Ich bin auch Kosmetikerin, aber ich habe in diesem Bereich nicht so viel gemacht wie im Friseursalon. Raten Sie Ihren Kunden, welche Produkte sie verwenden sollen? Ja, aber sehr vorsichtig. Die vielen Friseure, die anscheinend nur Produkte verkaufen und dem Kunden nichts bieten, haben das Publikum erschreckt. Ich bemühe mich ihnen zu vermitteln, dass sie wissen müssen, was sie benutzen und die Qualitätsunterschiede zwischen den verschiedenen Produkten kennen müssen, aber ich möchte auf gar keinen Fall Druck auf sie ausüben. Für mich ist es wichtig, dass meine Kunden mir vertrauen. Um auf die Frisuren-Modenschau zurückzukommen, die wir gesehen haben: Was wollten Sie genau zeigen? Obwohl verschiedene Frisuren für Bräute vorgeführt wurden, sind diese für jede Gelegenheit geeignet, sie sind jugendlich, leicht und schnell zu machen. Bei einer derartigen Darbietung ist es nicht möglich,

Haarschnitte vorzuführen. Es wäre übertrieben, die Models, die meine Frisuren so gut auf der Bühne vorgeführt haben, zu bitten, sich die Haare nach meinem Geschmack schneiden zu lassen. Denken Sie daran, da Sie eine Meisterin sind, auch Ihre Tochter auszubilden? Ja, sie beendet zurzeit ihre Ausbildung. Afronta la llegada del otoño con una buena alimentación FMHOY - Fuerteventura Incluir en la dieta los alimentos propios de la nueva estación es fundamental para aprovechar sus nutrientes y lograr la energía necesaria para hacer frente a la rutina y a la llegada del frío. Las vacaciones de verano quedan ya en el recuerdo y, tras la vuelta a la rutina, la entrada del otoño nos obliga a prestar especial atención a la alimentación. Es el momento de depurarse y preparar el organismo para una estación donde hay menos horas de sol, bajan las temperaturas y llegan las lluvias. Estos factores, junto al hecho de que el cuerpo humano se resiente, física y anímicamente, con los cambios de estación, son determinantes para apostar por una dieta que aporte energía, aumente las defensas y potencie el optimismo frente a la tristeza otoñal. Tras las primeras semanas de rutina, donde las familias afrontan el regreso al trabajo y a la escuela, son muchas las personas que se sienten cansadas, estresadas e incluso desanimadas. Ante estos síntomas, es importante incluir en la dieta diaria una correcta combinación de hidratos de carbono, proteínas, grasas, vitaminas y minerales. Alimentos como la pasta, el arroz, las legumbres o las patatas son muy útiles y, además, aportan pocas grasas. ALIMENTOS DE TEMPORADA En otoño, como en el resto del año, es recomendable incluir en la dieta los alimentos de temporada, ya

que, además de tener un sabor intenso, estar más frescos y resultar más económicos, aportan lo que el organismo necesita en cada momento. Es el caso de los cítricos, que irrumpen de nuevo con sus grandes cantidades de vitamina C para ayudarnos en la prevención de los típicos resfriados de los primeros fríos. Aunque hay frutas y verduras que encontramos durante todo el año, algunas son típicas de esta estación recién estrenada. ¿Sabes cuáles son? Frutas Naranjas, mandarinas, limones, uvas, granadas o

peras son algunas de las frutas que entran ahora en su época de esplendor con un mejor sabor, máxima frescura y precio ajustado. Sin olvidar frutos secos como las nueces o las avellanas. Verduras Las protagonistas del otoño son verduras como las setas, las berenjenas, las alcachofas, las coles de Bruselas, las coliflores, los calabacines, las calabazas, las lombardas y los repollos. DEPRESIÓN Y FALTA DE ENERGÍA Pero pasar del verano al otoño no significa únicamente adaptar la alimentación. Del mismo modo que se habla de la astenia primaveral, existe una depresión en otoño que afecta directamente al organismo y al estado de ánimo. Según los estudios, afecta al 30% de la población, en especial a las mujeres entre 25 y 45 años. Con síntomas como la desgana, la tristeza o la pérdida de energía, está provocada por un cambio en el ritmo de vida. Poco a poco, los días son más cortos y la rutina más intensa, pero el cuerpo humano tarda en reaccionar ante las nuevas circunstancias. Normalmente, es una cuestión de tiempo. Hay que tener paciencia y esperar a que el organismo se aclimate a un nuevo ambiente, una nueva temperatura y una nueva exigencia tanto física como mental. Si aparecen otros síntomas como alteraciones en el sueño, desórdenes alimenticios o irritabilidad y la situación no mejora ni con el paso de los días ni con el cambio de alimentación, es aconsejable acudir a un especialista.

SEASONAL FOOD In Autumn, as during the rest of the year, it is recommended to include seasonal food in our diet, because in addition to having more intense flavour, being more fresh and cheaper, they bring what the organism needs at all times. For example, citrus fruits bring in large quantities of vitamin C to help us prevent the typical colds of the first cold weather.

Es ist sehr wichtig, die für die neue Saison typischen Lebensmittel und deren Nährstoffe in unseren Speiseplan aufzunehmen, die uns die notwendige Energie geben, um uns der Routine und der Ankunft der Kälte zu stellen. Die Sommerferien sind schon vorbei, und nach der Rückkehr zur Routine zwingt uns die Ankunft des Herbstes besonders auf die Ernährung zu achten. Es ist Zeit, unseren Organismus zu reinigen, und uns auf eine Saison mit weniger Sonne, niedrigeren Temperaturen und Regen vorzubereiten. Dazu kommt, dass der Mensch den Wechsel der Jahreszeiten sowohl auf der körperlichen Ebene als auch im Gemüt spürt. Diese Tatsachen sind ausschlaggebend, um sich für eine Ernährung zu entscheiden, die uns Energie liefert und den Optimismus stärkt. Nach den ersten Wochen Routine, in denen die Familien sich der Rückkehr zur Arbeit und der Schule stellen müssen, fühlen sich viele Menschen müde, gestresst und sogar lustlos. Bei diesen Symptomen ist es wichtig, in den Speiseplan eine korrekte Kombination aus Kohlenhydraten, Proteinen, Fetten, Vitaminen und Mineralstoffen aufzunehmen. Nahrungsmittel wie Nudeln, Reis und Kartoffeln sind dazu geeignet und enthalten außerdem nur wenig Fett. NAHRUNGSMITTEL DER SAISON Im Herbst ist es genau wie in den übrigen Jahreszeiten empfehlenswert, Nahrungsmittel der Saison auf den Speiseplan zu bringen, da diese nicht nur besser schmecken, frischer und billiger sind, sondern dem Organismus die Nährstoffe zur Verfügung stellen, die er gerade braucht. Dies trifft für die Zitrusfrüchte zu, die uns wieder ihr großen Mengen an Vitamin C zur Verfügung stellen, um uns zu helfen, gegen

die typischen Erkältungen der ersten kalten Tage vorzubeugen. Obwohl es einige Obst- und Gemüsesorten das ganze Jahr über gibt, sind andere typisch für die Saison, die gerade begonnen hat. Wissen Sie welche? Obst Orangen, Mandarinen, Zitronen, Trauben, Granatäpfel, Trauben und Birnen sind einige der Früchte, die in dieser Saison besonders gut schmecken, frisch und erschwinglich sind. Nach und nach werden die Tage kürzer und die Routine macht sich stärker bemerkbar, aber der menschliche Körper reagiert nur langsam auf diesen Wechsel. Normalerweise ist es eine Frage der Zeit. Man muss geduldig sein und darauf warten, dass sich der Organismus sich an eine neue Umgebung, eine neue Temperatur und an neue körperliche und geistige Herausforderungen gewöhnt. Bei anderen Symptomen, wie Schlafstörungen, Essstörungen und Reizbarkeit ist es ratsam, sich von einem Experten beraten zu lassen, wenn sich dieses nicht nach einigen Tagen und nach der Umstellung der Ernährung ändert.

Beim Fest von Antigua ist die Nacht vor dem Haupttag die längste aller Veranstaltungen. Es gibt Musik und Tanz bis zum Tagesanbruch. Dieses Fest wird nur um Mitternacht für das Feuerwerk unterbrochen. Am Haupttag wird die Heilige Eucharistie empfangen. Danach treffen sich die Anwohner auf der Plaza von Antigua, um mit dem Wein zu Ehren des Volkes von Antigua auf das Ende des diesjährigen Festes und auf das, welches im nächsten Jahr stattfinden soll, anzustoßen.

El total de inscritos en las actividades deportivas de verano fue de 1200 personas Las Fiestas de Antigua finalizaron el pasado 8 de septiembre, celebrando su Día Principal desde las 06:00 de la madrugada en que la Banda de Agaete recorriera las calles para recoger a los que aún bailaban al ritmo de la Gran Verbena que protagonizaron durante la noche los grupos Bomba y Guajavi de Fuerteventura, y Primera Línea de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. La noche que precede al Día Principal es la más larga de todas las celebradas durante las Fiestas de Antigua, con una Verbena que se prolonga hasta el amanecer y que sólo interrumpe su música para disfrutar a las doce de la noche de los Fuegos Artificiales o Voladores, El Día Principal celebra su Solemne Eucaristía. Posteriormente los vecinos del pueblo y del municipio se dan cita a en la Plaza de Antigua para brindar por unas fiestas que terminan y las próximas que vendrán, con el Vino de Honor al Pueblo de Antigua.

The Fiestas of Antigua ended on 8th September with the celebrations of the Día Principal from 6 a.m. with the Band of Agaete that walked through the streets to collect those who were still dancing at the rhythm of the Gran Festival that was animated all night by the groups Bomba y Guajavi from Fuerteventura, and Primera Línea from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The night before Día Principal is the longest one during the celebrations of Fiestas de Antigua, with a Festival that lasts until daybreak and whose music is only interrupted to enjoy the fireworks at midnight. Día Principal celebrates the Solemn Eucharist. Later, neighbours from the village and from the municipality meet on the Main Square in Antigua in order to have a toast in honour of the Fiestas that are ending and for the future ones.

El total de inscritos en las actividades deportivas del verano 2010 fue de 1.200 personas en el municipio, según confirmaron los responsables municipales. La programación, que fue elaborada por la concejalía de Deportes del Ayuntamiento de La Oliva contempla una serie de actividades especiales durante este mes de septiembre en la piscina cubierta de La Oliva. La campaña deportiva del verano 2010 ofertó el aprendizaje y perfeccionamiento, según los niveles y las edades, de deportes como el vóley playa, piragüismo, optimist, windsurfing, surf y natación en distintos niveles, desde la iniciación hasta el perfeccionamiento. Los cursos de natación se realizaron en la piscina cubierta de La Oliva, mientras que en la piscina de Corralejo los usuarios pudieron practicar natación libre.

1200 people registered for summer sports activities

The total number of people registered for the 2010 summer sports’ activities reached 1200 for the municipality according to the municipal management team. The programme that was created by the Sports Council of La Oliva’s Ayuntamiento included a series of special activities during the month of September in the covered swimming pool of the La Oliva. The 2010 summer sports campaign advertised learning and improvement, depending on the level and age, for sports such as beach volley, canoeing, optimist, windsurfing, surfing and swimming at various levels, from learners to advanced levels. Swimming lessons took place in the covered swimming pool of La Oliva, while people were able to practise freestyle swimming in Corralejo’s pool.

Insgesamt nahmen im Sommer 1200 Personen an den Sportveranstaltungen teil

Nach Angaben der Organisation haben in diesem Sommer 2010 in der Gemeinde insgesamt 1.200 Personen an den Sportveranstaltungen teilgenommen. Zu dem Programm, das vom Amt für Sport der Gemeinde von La Oliva erstellt wurde, gehören zahlreiche besondere Aktivitäten, die im September im Hallenbad von La Oliva stattgefunden haben. Im Rahmen der Sommersportkampagne 2010 wurden Grundkurse und Spezialisierungskurse in Sportarten wie Strandvolleyball, Kanusport, Optimist und Schwimmen angeboten. Die Teilnehmer wurden nach Niveaus und Altergruppen eingeteilt. Die Schwimmkurse fanden im Hallenbad La Oliva statt. Im Schwimmbad von Corralejo konnten die Nutzer schwimmen.

La procesión de la Virgen del Pino, en Majanicho, fue un acto de fe y de entrega por parte de los vecinos y visitantes. La pequeña imagen de la Virgen que este año estrenó un manto nuevo de color blanco fue a encontrarse con los romeros casi en la plaza. Una vez finalizada la ceremonia religiosa en la iglesia, la Virgen del Pino fue transportada en peso hasta encontrarse con la romería. Los cohetes abrieron paso a la comitiva al tiempo que la parranda la arropaba con sus canciones. A brazos que no a hombros, la Virgen del Pino hizo su recorrido anual por la costa y al llegar a la playa, los porteadores la alzaron por tres veces en alto mientras le dedicaban vivas muy sentidos. Todos aprovecharon para pedirle a la Virgen que se cumplieran sus deseos. De vuelta ya en dirección a la iglesia, la imagen fue colocada en la plaza donde los vecinos le fueron entregando sus ofrendas.

Die kleine Heiligenstatue, die dieses Jahr ein neues Kleid und einen neuen, weißen Umhang trug, erreichte die Pilger auf dem zentralen Platz. Nach der religiösen Zeremonie in der Kirche wurde die Virgen del Pino nach draußen getragen, wo sie mit den Pilgern zusammen traf. Ein Feuerwerk eröffnete den Umzug, der auf dem Weg von einer Musikkapelle begleitet wurde. Die Virgen del Pino wurde wie jedes Jahr entlang der Küste an den Strand getragen. Die Träger hoben sie drei Mal in die Luft und ließen sie hoch leben. Alle nutzten diese Gelegenheit, um die Heilige Jungfrau zu bitten, ihre Wünsche in Erfüllung gehen zu lassen. Als sie zur Kirche zurückkamen, wurde die Heiligenstatue auf den Platz gestellt, wo ihr die Anwohner Opfergaben brachten.

The Ayuntamiento’s services of attention to citizens work 70% faster

Since mid-August, the Office of Attention to Citizens deals with those services 70% faster thanks to the modernisation of the existing infrastructures and installation of air conditioning in the data processing centre, the nerve centre of the municipal administration. This reorganisation ensures the capacity to offer citizens a series of services in record time, which will reduce queues. This project that represents an investment of 36.000 Euros was financed by the State’s E Plan, an initiative that requires for eight people to get employed. This reorganisation aims at improving quality of services both from the head quarters in La Oliva and at the Town Hall in Corralejo which are the two data control centres for La Oliva’s Ayuntamiento. The work carried out consists in the creation, fitting and development of technological and innovation infrastructures; those are aimed at improving access to networks and IT infrastructures as well as fixed and mobile telecommunication and improving their use. The creation of this cooling system of the data processing centre and refurbishing (piping, etc.) ensures that the temperature and humidity levels are maintained at an adequate level for the equipment which according to the international norms should be 22.3 degrees, so that it keeps working even in times of great heat.

A partir de mediados del mes de agosto, la Oficina de Atención al Ciudadano (O.A.C.) gestionará un 70% más rápido los servicios de atención al ciudadano, gracias a la modernización de las infraestructuras existentes e instalación del sistema de aire acondicionado en el centro de procesamiento de datos (CPD), el corazón de la administración municipal. Dicha reestructuración tiene la suficiente capacidad pata ofrecer al ciudadano una serie de servicios en un tiempo récord, circunstancia que reducirá las colas. Este proyecto, con un coste de 36.000 euros ha sido financiado por los fondos estatales del Plan E, una iniciativa que ha requerido la contratación de ocho trabajadores. La finalidad de esta reestructuración es la de ganar en la calidad de los servicios prestados al ciudadano, tanto desde la sede central, en La Oliva, como desde la Tenencia de Alcaldía, en Corralejo, los dos centros de control de datos del Ayuntamiento de La Oliva. Las obras acometidas se han centrado en la creación, equipamiento y desarrollo de infraestructuras tecnológicas y de innovación; las destinadas a me-

Ab Mitte August wird das Büro für Bürgerbetreuung (O.A.C.) dank der Modernisierung der Infrastrukturen und der Installierung einer Klimaanlage im Zentrum für Datenverarbeitung (CPD), dem Herzen der Verwaltung der Gemeinde, 70% schneller arbeiten. Dank dieser Umgestaltung ist es möglich, den Bürgern zahlreiche Leistungen in Rekordzeit zu bieten, wodurch die Wartezeit verkürzt wird. Dieses Projekt, das 36.000 Euro kostete, wurde mit staatlichen Mitteln des Plans E finanziert. Im Rahmen dieser Initiative wurden acht Personen eingestellt. Mit dieser Umstrukturierung wird beabsichtigt, die Qualität der Bürgerbetreuung zu verbessern, sowohl im Hauptstandort in La Oliva, als auch im Bezirksbürgermeisteramt in Corralejo, den beiden Zentren, in denen sich die Daten der Gemeinde von La Oliva befinden. Die durchgeführten Bauarbeiten waren auf die Schaffung und Entwicklung von neuartigen technologischen Infrastrukturen ausgerichtet; sie sollen den Zugang zu den Netzen und die Infrastrukturen der Informationstechnologien verbessern. Mit der Einführung des neuen Kühlungssystem CPD (Datenverarbeitungszentrum) und den Aufbereitungsarbeiten (Kanalisation, Leitungen usw.)

werden die Temperatur, die nach den internationalen Richtlinien 22, 3 Grad Celsius betragen sowie die angemessene Feuchtigkeit aufrecht erhalten, so dass das Datenverarbeitungssystem auch bei Hitze gut funktioniert.

Maratón de limpieza en La Oliva

El pasado mes se inició la segunda campaña de limpieza emprendida por el Ayuntamiento, y que abarcaba a todos los pueblos del municipio, aunque estuvo centrada en Corralejo. Así, y desde las 08:00 de esta mañana, una cuadrilla de operarios comenzó con las labores de baldeo con agua y productos químicos desincrustantes en la avenida de Nuestra Señora del Carmen, principal arteria de la localidad marítima. También se baldearían todas las calles de Corralejo como norma habitual, unas labores que se extenderán por todo el municipio de forma periódica. Con esta iniciativa, se han tomado medidas para mantener limpio uno de los lugares más visitados y donde más se concentra el turismo en el municipio. Además, y para la limpieza de playas, se informó que la cribadora municipal rotará por todas las playas del municipio. Esta es la segunda campaña de limpieza que ha emprendía este verano el Ayuntamiento de La Oliva en la localidad de Corralejo, ya que la Corporación desplegó un zafarrancho de limpieza a mediados de agosto ante la masiva afluencia de turistas.

Cleaning marathon in La Oliva

Last month the second cleaning campaign was organised by the Ayuntamiento which included all the villages of the municipality, although it was mainly centred in Corralejo. Therefore, at 8 a.m., a team of technicians started working with water and strong cleaning chemicals on avenida de Nuestra Señora del Carmen, which is the town’s main street. All of Corralejo’s streets were also swept as usual. This king of initiative will be extended to the whole municipality on a regular basis. Together with this initiative, it has also been decided to keep the most visited area clean which is where most of the municipality’s tourism is concentrated. Furthermore, the beach cleaning machine will rotate around all the beaches in the municipality. This is the second cleaning campaign that has been launched this summer by La Oliva’s Ayuntamiento in Corralejo and the Corporation had also launched a general cleaning campaign mid-August because of the massive affluence of tourists.

Im vergangenen Monat begann die Reinigungskampagne, die von der Gemeinde durchgeführt wurde und alle Orte der Gemeinde einbezog, obwohl sie besonders auf Corralejo konzentriert war. Um 08:00 Uhr morgens begann eine Gruppe von Arbeitern mit Wasser und chemischen Produkten in der Avenida de Nuestra Señora del Carmen, der Hauptstraße dieses am Meer gelegen Ortes, zu putzen. Außerdem sollen alle Straßen von Corralejo regelmäßig geputzt werden. Die Arbeiten sollen in regelmäßigen Abständen in der ganzen Gemeinde durchgeführt werden. Mit dieser Initiative werden die am häufigsten besuchten Orte, an denen sich der Tourismus in der Gemeinde am meisten konzentriert, sauber gehalten. Außerdem wird die Siebmaschine der Gemeinde über alle Strände fahren.

Apart from the piped music that livened up this encounter between offer and demand, the Feria del Saldo in Morro Jable always had live music on which was taken care of by the Municipal Band from Pájara and the street bands of Tagoror, La Sebada, Los Mantequillas and Hubara.

Pájara’s 2011 Carnivals will take place between 10th and 27th March

“Toys” will be the allegory that will inspire the next Edition of the Carnestolendas de Pájara (Carnival), which should give many ideas to the Carnival Groups and the general public in order to create their costumes, floats, choreographies, songs, etc. Dancing, special shows for children, galas, competitions, street bands, speeches and many more attractions will all take place in the town where this is also known as the Winter Fairs (Fiestas de Invierno).

El Ayuntamiento celebró su segunda Feria del Saldo que ha acogió este año Morro Jable, enclave turístico del sur de Fuerteventura y populoso núcleo de población del municipio de Pájara. Desarrollada desde el pasado mes de septiembre en la céntrica calle Diputado Manuel Velázquez Cabrera, abrió sus puertas al público los días 6, 7 y 8 de septiembre de 10.00 a 21.00 horas. Una docena de empresas del municipio de Pájara y otras del resto de la isla participaron en esta segunda feria del año, que tuvo una buena acogida entre comerciantes y público en general; gracias, en parte, a la ubicación de la misma y a su amplio horario de apertura. Los buenos precios y la buena calidad de la oferta comercial contribuyeron al éxito de esta nueva edición de la Feria del Saldo de Morro Jable, de la que se beneficiaron turistas, visitantes y vecinos del municipio. Actividades paralelas Destacaron también las actividades paralelas a la feria del saldo, como el parque temático para niños y niñas instalado en la calle Diputado Manuel Velázquez, con castillo hinchable incluido, y que unido a la oferta de talleres de manualidades para los más pequeños propició un atractivo más. Aparte del hilo musical que amenizó este encuentro entre la oferta y la demanda, la Feria del Saldo de Morro Jable siempre ofrece música en vivo, que en esta ocasión corrió a cargo de la Banda Municipal de Pájara, las parrandas Tagoror, La Sebada, Los Mantequillas y Hubara.

Die Gemeinde veranstaltete dieses Jahr zum zweiten mal eine Feria del Saldo in Morro Jable, einer touristischen Enklave mit einem großen Bevölkerungskern im Süden von Fuerteventura, die zur Gemeinde von Pájara gehört. Die Feria fand am 6., am 7. und am 8. September von 10.00 bis 21.00 Uhr in der zentral gelegenen Straße Calle Diputado Manuel Velázquez Cabrera statt. Ungefähr ein Dutzend Unternehmen aus der Gemeinde von Pájara und weitere aus anderen Teilen der Insel nahmen an dieser zweiten Feria statt, die Händlern und beim Publikum viel Erfolg bescherte, was unter anderem am Standort und an den Öffnungszeiten lag. Die günstigen Preise und die hohe Qualität der Waren haben zum Erfolg zu dieser Ausverkaufsaktion in Morro Jable beigetragen, die von Touristen und Anwohnern besucht wurde. Los Carnavales de 2011 de Pájara, del 10 al 27 de marzo ‘Los juguetes’ será la alegoría que inspire la próxima edición de las Carnestolendas de Pájara, lo que dará muchas ideas a los grupos del Carnaval y a la ciudadanía en general para preparar disfraces, carrozas, coreografías, canciones, etc. Cosos, bailes, espectáculos especiales para niños, galas, concursos, actuaciones de murgas, comparsas, pasacalles, lectura del pregón y otras propuestas engrandecen en la localidad las también conocidas como Fiestas de Invierno.

La localidad majorera, según el INE, atrajo en julio a 12.990 viajeros procedentes de nuestro país y 61.452 residentes en el extranjero; lo que supuso 79.389 pernoctaciones de compatriotas y 558.145 de foráneos. El Instituto Nacional de Estadística refleja asimismo que el grado de ocupación por habitaciones alcanzó en Pájara durante el mes de julio un porcentaje del 77,79.

La OAC de Pájara se puso en marcha el 28 de abril de 2008, y en 2009 la visitaron 634 personas. Renewing the employment demand, what used to be signing an unemployment card, is the most demanded service in the Offices of Attention to Citizens (Oficinas de Atención al Ciudadano – OAC) in Pájara. This municipal service, where during the first eight months of 2010, over 352 residents were seen on site, also received more requests from citizens such as the request for information on public and /or private employment, about procedures, grants, bus timetables, etc. In addition to people who went to Pájara’s three Offices of Attention to Citizens we should add the other many requests that were made by internet (oacpajara@pajara.es) or by telephone. In September, during the Fiestas del Pulpito in Puertito de la Cruz, the producer Ventura Films organised the pre-screening of their most recent production, called “Camino de Regreso”, directed by Julio Rodríguez and Marcel Díaz. The film is a tribute to the Island of Fuerteventura and especially to habitants of Jandía (Puertito de la Cruz, Cofete and Morro Jable). It was inspired by anecdotes and experiences related by the protagonists themselves that testify of the terrible lacks and difficulties of life on the peninsula of Jandía during the decade of the nineteen forties until the nineteen sixties. This film also has the merit of having selected actors from a local casting (carried out in the same place where history took place); amongst those actors the acting performances of Carlos Arocha and Arleana Mont’ros were remarkable and really reached the audience. In fact, it is a lovely history that talks about itself with pride and respect for the most important: its people and customs. Synopsis In the 1960’s, in the south of the island of Fuerteventura, between Puertito de La Cruz and Cofete; habitants live normal daily lives for those times. Servando, a fisherman from the village of Puertito, dazzled by the passion that young Dolores is unleashing in him, choose the option that will mark his destiny for the rest of his life. Nowadays, those same people remember with longing those times and try to adapt to the changes of life.

The Ruano sisters have passed on their windsurfing bug to 35 children of Fuerteventura

The sisters Daida and Iballa Ruano introduced 35 children to windsurfing during the “1st clinic Windsurf junior – Caja Canarias 100 years Island of Fuerteventura” event that took place last month in the Island’s Nautical Centre. The initiative included the collaboration of Fuerteventura’s Cabildo and the world champion business, Morenotwins and sponsoring from Cajacanarias. First windsurfing classes Daida and Iballa Ruano did all they could to transmit their love for windsurfing to those 35 children from Fuerteventura who participated in the “clinic”. After an initial introduction where Daida and Iballa explained the basic vocabulary for the material, the basic moves, and how to assemble the equipment and the different windsurfing styles, children were able to go in the water and start learning with the advice from the champions. Both sisters insisted on the safety of the facilities and the ability of the Nautical Centre Staff, and they offered to come back to Fuerteventura at anytime in order to promote windsurfing.

Im September organisierte Ventura Films im Rahmen der „Fiestas del Pulpito“ in Puertito de la Cruz die Voraufführung ihrer neuesten Produktion, die “Camino de Regreso” heißt. Die Regie führten Julio Rodríguez und Marcel Díaz. Dieser Film ist eine Hommage an die Insel Fuerteventura, und ganz besonders an die Bewohner von Jandía (Puertito de la Cruz, Cofete und Morro Jable). Er wurde von Anekdoten und Erfahrungen inspiriert, die seine Hauptdarsteller selbst erzählen. Aus diesen Geschichten geht hervor, wie schwer das Leben in der Zeit zwischen den 40er und den 60er Jahren des vergangenen Jahrhunderts auf der Halbinsel Jandía war. Die Schauspieler wurden bei einem örtlichen Casting ausgewählt (das genau dort stattfand, wo auch die Geschichte spielt). Die Arbeit der Schauspieler Carlos Arocha und Arleana Mont’ros, die den Zuschauern zu Herzen gegangen sind, muss besonders gelobt werden.

Primeras clases de windsurf Daida e Iballa Ruano pusieron todo de su parte para trasladar su amor por el windsurf a los 35 niños de Fuerteventura que participaron en el clinic. Tras una primera charla de introducción en la que Daida e Iballa explicaron el vocabulario básico del material, las maniobras elementales, el montaje del equipo o los estilos del windsurf, los niños pudieron salir al agua y aprender con los consejos de las campeonas.

Am 2. Oktober 2010 wird im Einkaufszentrum Atlántico in Castillo, in der Gemeinde von Antigua, eine Wohltätigkeitsveranstaltung zur Unterstützung des Hundezwingers von Puerto del Rosari stattfinden. Diese Veranstaltung wird von Okapi, einem Verein für den Schutz von Tieren und Pflanzen auf Fuerteventura, und anderen Gruppen veranstaltet. Zu dieser Veranstaltung gehören verschiedene Aktivitäten, unter anderem eine Tombola mit tollen Preisen, die von verschiedenen Geschäften gespendet wurden, welche diese Veranstaltung unterstützen. Zu den Preisen gehören unter anderem zwei Eintrittskarten für den Wasserpark Baku in Corralejo und zwei Eintrittskarten für eine Sitzung Thalasso-Spa, die von dem Hotel Barceló gespendet wurden.
