As I am sitting here writing and thinking I only have two weeks until I’m in Sturgis. Sturgis is for certainly one of my favorite places to travel. The Sturgis Rally has always been a fun place to go and one of the most beautiful and fun places to ride. If you have never been there or even if you have, I will share a few of the great rides and points of interest to add to your “must do” list while in Sturgis. There are so many great places to visit and ride in the Black Hills. I personally have a real attachment to the Black Hills because of my heritage. One of my favorite rides is certainly through Spearfish Canyon. The town of Spearfish is also a neat place to find some great restaurants and some awesome watering holes. If you ride the canyon, start at the base. This takes up up into the western section of the Black Hills. As you leave the canyon you can travel through Lead, South Dakota and make you’re landing point Deadwood. Deadwood is the home of old time gambling, hotels and awesome restaurants and bars. Leaving Deadwood is a fantastic and beautiful ride out Hwy 385 which takes you along the Pactola Reservoir. This is a remarkable and beautiful lake on your ride to Hill City and onto Custer and then through Custer State Park. If you’re lucky, as you ride through Custer State Park and the Wild Life Loop, you could possibly see herds of Buffalo and many other animals. Don’t be tempted to touch the buffalo because they are not a very friendly group of animals. Also they have been known to stampede at a biker or a group of bikers and that doesn’t work out well for the bikers. After riding the loop, you can head toward Rapid City, making a quick pitstop in the fun little town of Keystone. Keystone is another great place to find shops, restaurants and fun bars. I could fill pages up talking about fantastic places to ride and visit in the Sturgis, Black Hills region. I’m going to conclude this by saying while you’re there be sure to hit Black Hills Harley, Downtown Sturgis, Devils Tower and of course make the ride for the special day of fun and events on Weds August 9th to Hulet, Wyoming. It’s a great ride to get there from Sturgis and you’ll understand why I recommended it once you are there. Well, so much for the Sturgis fun in writing. I hope to see lots of you there and have a safe and fun trip if you’re going. Well, I have a little secret for everyone and it’s the fastest motorcycle lube service in the world. It’s called All Lubed Up Cycles and it’s conveniently located at 2600 S Old Hwy 94, St. Charles, MO 63303. It is literally just like a Jiffy Lube but for your motorcycle. You ride right into the shop, they strap you into the wheel chalk, and BAM!!! You’re ready to go. The floors have grates and are set up so that the motorcycle tech is right underneath you with all his tools, oil filters, and oil drain ready to quickly, professionally, and conveniently get you in and out and back on the road riding. I know amazing, right? I thought the same thing.

Owner John Morgan has been wanting to open a shop like this for over 5 years. He has always had a love for motorcycles and wrenching. John worked for a company that built gas stations all over the Midwest for over 20 years. He has met and became friends with so many different people across the country. That was one of his favorite parts of his old career. John told me, “I got to meet people of all walks of life and I am so grateful for that.” But no matter how hard he worked all day, John never could put the wrenches down at night. So, as a side job, he would work on and custom built motorcycles in his garage at home to make a little extra money. Honestly, he just loved wrenching and working on bikes, the extra money was just a bonus that came along with it. John has a long list of some bad ass custom bikes that came out of his garage. He knew he could trust him and he knew that John truly cares for and treats every motorcycle like it’s his own. This friend also happened to own 17 motorcycles. One day, He asked John how quickly can he get his bikes in an out for an oil change? Being that John was working out of his garage and didn’t have the supplies on hand for that big of a job, he was not sure. But this is precisely when that lightbulb went off in his head, DING!!! That is when the idea of All Lubed Up Cycles came to mind. He knew if he could create a professional establishment, with the concept of getting motorcycles back on the road in an hour or less, and keeping all his customers happy, he could really have an awesome shop. We all know keeping the customers happy is not always easy but that is one of his main goals. After all, where would you be without any customers. So, you must keep them happy. John really started thinking, “what do I need to do to build a shop that I can get motorcycles all lubed up and in and out in under an hour; like a Jiffy Lube for motorcycles? He was picturing a big shop with open bay doors and a line of motorcycles out of the back waiting for their turn to ride up, quickly and professionally get their oil changed or whatever other quick maintenance they need and ride out. John did a lot of research and realized that there aren’t any shops out there like that. No one specializes in a quick lube and maintenance. He knew then, that’s exactly what he wanted to do. The name All Lubed Up Cycles came to his mind one night when he was working on a customer’s bike at home. He instantly loved it, especially with the slogan “The fastest motorcycle lube service in the world”. John searched for the perfect location and shop for a long time. There wasn’t going to be any settling for just any average place. It had to be perfect for him and his customer base he already had. He finally found the shop he is in now, and it was the perfect layout because it used to be a quick lube/body shop for cars. After some remodeling, and switching things around, All Lubed Up Cycles was born. John and his team love going to work every day. “This is my dream job,” he told me, “I couldn’t be any happier than I am now.” He is beyond grateful for the team he has working with him and all the loyal customers that have stuck with him through the years. John is only happy if his team and customers are happy. He will do anything and everything in his power to make that happen. elcome back Full Throttle readers and riders! The mid-west summer has gone pretty easy on us thus far with mild temps that are only now starting to get in to that “Did I just walk outside my house or did I walk into a sauna?” kinda summer. With all sorts of bike nights and events in full swing the pistons are pumping on down the road with smiling faces. For most of us reading this article riding isn’t just a hobby, it’s a way of life. It’s our release from the troubles and cares of the world, it’s our counselor, our confidant, our good time, our friend and companion that has no opinion. Hell when most of us refer to our rides it’s not as a machine or an inanimate object. It’s referred to with love, affection and treated as a family member. Don’t lie to yourself you know you get a little choked up when you have to leave her at the dealership for work or when you go out of town for extended periods of time without the bike. So why is it that a whole generation of people are choosing to miss out on this amazing passion? Some of you may have caught the recent article on MSN called “Millennials are wrecking America’s most iconic motorcycle brand” as I did and it got me thinking about where that disconnect might be? Now this article isn’t out to prove that Gen Y aka millennials are bad people or lazy. This isn’t out to blame them directly for slow sales in not only the Harley world but also in the motorsports industry the question remains to be asked. Where did it go wrong? When did riding a motorcycle become dangerously uncool and taboo? Is it the economy? Is it a generation of people who have invested more into college than most do their own homes with far less of a return at the end of that four years? Did someone take away the safe spaces? Is it because Trump shared too much info with the Putin? Has helicopter parenting ruined any kind of fun with their readied bottle of hand sanitizer and gluten free snacks? I could go on all day but I really would like to know. What the hell happened? As most of us reading this article can agree it’s in our blood. Those who ride are wired differently. Why and How? Well we all have our own reasons. Maybe it’s because you grew up in a moto family? Maybe you saw the movie “Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man”, “The Wild One” or “Easy Rider”? Maybe you picked up and actual copy of Easy rider magazine. My love for two wheels didn’t even start with a motor. BMX bikes started my dare devil love of two wheels. From building a make shift ramp and jumping the neighborhood kids like Evel Knivel sans a proper helmet and gear to my early days of racing BMX bikes. From there the natural progression gravitated me to sport bikes and so forth to Harleys, so much so I made a career out of it. PPage age 34 34

The Spot…

Even in this day and age we are seeing men and women in their 30’s, 40’s and 50’s grabbing life by the handle bars for the first time in their lives. It seems that the baby boomers are handing the keys to my generation the Gen X’ers with ease but from there it seems to stop dead in its tracks. Harley is doing their best with marketing directed right at the Gen Y-ers. Even here at St Charles Harley / Big St Charles Motorsports we offer a riders training course for beginners to encourage and engage new riders. So why aren’t the younger generations doing so? Is it lack of finding the job one “wants” rather than needs? In my parents day you didn’t have to like the job you had, but you had to have it. These days I hear so many people say “I’m waiting for the right offer and position.” We didn’t have those mentalities back then. It was do what you had to do to survive and support your hobbies and life styles. Maybe college isn’t for everyone, sure wasn’t for me. There are currently almost six million unfilled skilled labor jobs in this country at the moment. Those hard working laborers are the ones who have fueled our business for so long, the ones who weren’t afraid of a little work, long hours, or the dirt and oil on their hands. Yes the suits, doctors and lawyers alike have also added to that fire but more so in recent history and we in the industry are grateful for those who support the lifestyle! Is it the image it conveys? With the suits enjoying the life, feel and look that goes with the weekend warrior status is this something the new generation finds unappealing? I have so many questions in this article but I believe it is up to us in the saddle, the ones twisting the throttle, the ones with the wind in our hair and the bugs in our teeth to relay that message to them. I know a few that are considered “millennials” who do in fact ride but the spectrum is slim to nil. This article isn’t so much about sales lost, it’s more about an experience in a life that may never happen for them. Think about some of the best memories you have had on your bike, the way it made you feel, the passion you hold, the laughs and fun you’ve had. The way ones chest puffs up after someone asks or notices you ride one of the most amazing machines this planet has ever seen! A machine that changed a way of life in the early 1900’s. Harley-Davidson! And or any model for that point. My first bike wasn’t a Harley! Hell my third and fourth bikes weren’t but the progression led to that. If we aren’t the ones to convey how these two wheeled machines changed our lives…who will? Thanks for stopping by and y’all enjoy the ride.

THE NOT SO SILENT GRAY FELLOW How’s it going Full Throttle readers, Zach White here to give you the latest and greatest info from St. Charles Harley-Davidson. Hope you all are enjoying this summer riding and have a safe trip if your traveling to Strugis. We still have 3 more bike nights ahead for the summer so if you haven’t made it to one yet, don’t miss out. The first Thursday of every month from 6pm-9pm with a new theme at each one. This month I want to feature a build that has been in the works since April for a great client that has had the patients of all the backordered parts that have finally made it into the shop for our master technican, Kyle Brooks, to make all the magic come to life. This is a 2017 Street Glide Special that has all the bells and whistles on it. The clean lines from front to back will get all the attention on the streets. When my client came in we started out with ideas of what he wanted and then he let me go to work on making it all flow perfect. While we waited for parts to come in he decided to go all out and make it into his dream bike. Thats when the stretched tank and side covers came into the mix of completing the bike the first time and having it leave our parking lot the exact way he wanted it to be. This bike catches your eye as soon as you see it from a disance coming towards you. One thing that stands out first is the 23” platinum contrast cut Performance Machine Paramount wheel with matching 13” single sided rotor that really opens the right side of the wheel. Wrapped around the wheel is a Paul Yaffe talon fender. The black front end is Arlen Ness Hot Legs and 10 gauge fork boot covers. Also from Paul Yaffe you see the stretch fuel tank, side covers, saddlebags and rear fender. Like I said we didn’t miss a beat when it comes to fully customizing this bike from front to back. Almost every part on the bike was removed and changed to something different to make him his dream bike. For comfort we installed some LA Chopper twin peak bars that positions him in his natural sitting position for the many miles ahead. To give it some better throttle response we installed the Cobra power dual headpipes and race pro slip-ons. The sound system on this machine is rockin with Rockford Fosgate speakers and amp. This bike will be heard with the motor on or off. The heart of the motor got a upgrade as well with all the chrome engine pieces being switched to black to complete the blacked out look of this bike. The list goes on and on with all the upgrades to this bike so you will have to see it up close at a bike night or the streets for youself. I want to thank our awesome client for allowing us to make his dream bike come true and the months leading up to it not leaving the building until it was complete. Looking forward to later this month and what Harley-Davidson has in store for us with the 2018 line up of motorcycles.
