The Wheeler Centre presents
Cory Doctorow ‘Stories of futures in which disaster strikes and we rise to the occasion are a vaccine against the virus of mistrust.’ For Cory Doctorow, the purpose of science fiction is not to predict the future – but to understand the present. See the irrepressible Canadian activist, journalist and author of the new sci-fi novel Walkaway Cory Doctorow in conversation with author C.S. Pacat. Together they’ll discuss the imperfect present and foreseeable future.
Witnessing Climate Change Climate change is too often discussed in the abstract – in terms of graphs, statistics and future projections. Hear from people who are already seeing, and living, the impact. They’ll share their stories, visions and ideas for the future. We’ll bring together moving words and performances from spoken-word artist Kathy Jetñil-Kijiner, activist Ursula Rakova, New York Times science writer Jim Robbins and author and environmentalist Tony Birch.
TUES 27 FEB at St Kilda Town Hall Time: 7.00pm – 8.00pm Tickets: $25 and $15 concession, plus 30c booking fee.
Matt Lucas An alphabetically organised memoir would be an unusual move for most writers, but it’s a typical one for Matt Lucas, who has built his comedy career on looking at the world askew. In its gleefully jumbled way, his memoir Little Me: My Story from A to Z tells of the comedian’s childhood and rise to fame; his struggles and successes. Hear this icon of British popular culture discuss his book, his life and the changing spirit of comedy – not necessarily in that order. With comedian Cal Wilson.
