01 FUTURE FOOD INSTITUTE 5
Who we are The Future Food Institute is an ecosystem with international horizons that makes education and innovation in, and of, agrifood systems the key tools for addressing the grand challenges of the future and supporting the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN 2030 Agenda. By training the next generation of changemakers, empowering communities, and involving all actors in the supply chain: institutions, industries, consumers, producers, distributors, and processors are included in the co-design of concrete solutions. The Future Food Institute catalyzes progress toward a future of Prosperity for People and for the Planet.
6
Education for us The Future Food Academy, through a wide range of educational offerings, aims to establish new cognitive models, challenging current ones, and develop new skills, with the goal of training a new generation of citizens capable of embracing the complexity of today's world and leading glocal society toward environmental, human, social, cultural, economic and political regeneration.
7
Innovation becomes the tool that enables and accelerates the process of transition to that sustainability that goes beyond technological application, entering the social and cultural world, to become diplomacy and politics. Re-generating schooling requires a common, collective, and co-participatory effort, starting from universal human values: Paideia, said the ancient Greeks.
-
Sara Roversi, President, Future Food Institute 8
I believe that a world for sustainable natives is possible. I believe in an empathic, systemic and transdisciplinary way of living. Future Food continues to push the boundaries of formal and informal, in-person and distance learning, leveraging its many prestigious national and international collaborations. Human beings are agents of change, and we at the Future Food Academy teach how to learn, providing the citizens of today and tomorrow with the skills and tools they need to address present challenges and solve future ones.

02 APPROACH AND METHOD 12
3-S educational approach THE SCHOOL ‘ DEL SAPERE’
(of experiencing with senses)
(of savoir-faire)
THE SCHOOL ‘DEL SOSTENERE’
The age in which we live is the age of complexity, and it is necessary to provide a greater depth of experience within the school. An experience charged with senses, emotions and content. Designing a school that regenerates means bringing the school back to being a generator of experience, memories, dreams, stimulators of attention, passions and challenges, true inducers of knowledge growth.
Knowledge is about acquiring a set of skills and tools to be able to make the most of the resources one has, both the visible and the "dormant" ones. Only by activating didactic and methodological experimentation in step with the times and the needs of society will we be able to acquire the means of cultural transmission that we need to be able to design change.
Helping to understand the (inter)relationships between territories, food systems, climate change and innovation processes is crucial to implement a model of integral ecology education, to address difficulties and uncertainties, and to develop methods to act and assist a school of diversity, where everyone can contribute to the preservation of the Earth.
THE SCHOOL ‘DEL SENTIRE’
(of sustaining)
13
Teaching Title method We believe in knowledge as the prime mover of conscious change, starting with food as towards nexus between People, Planet and Prosperity. Through research projects, innovation challenges and field experiences, blending theoretical and practical approaches, human and digital connections, the pedagogical method guiding our educational proposals has three phases: ●
● ●
INSPIRATION Let us reflect on the "why" and be inspired to have a vision of the future through the eyes of visionaries and experts. ASPIRATION We unlock our potential by learning from the best practices of those who are already acting. ACTION Let us roll up our sleeves and turn our ideas into action to become true agents of change.
The Future Food Institute is part of the national Green Community network established by the Ministry of Education (MIUR) for the implementation of the "School ReGeneration" Plan. Find us in the Regenerators Network! 14
Teaching and learning tools The Future Food Academy, on the strength of its 10 years of expertise, uses didactic tools carefully designed for cognitive stimulation through a systemic and collaborative approach, combining practices proper to open innovation with challenge-based, game-based and community-based learning techniques, in the will to encourage in young and old a new kind of mentality, starting from universal human values that promote the interconnectedness of the whole: towards the prosperity of People and the Planet of which we are guests. The Future Food Academy promotes transdisciplinarity and prefers a workshop and constructivist approach, in the desire to make participants active participants and early enablers of change, toward the achievement of the UN Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, for a better future. Both in-person and online learning tracks are provided. In recent years, hybrid formats have been designed to enable everyone to access our programs.

03 WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT US 16
“I have always gone in search of people who would be a source of inspiration for me to be able, in turn, to motivate teachers and students. I have to say that my curious and attentive nature made me meet people with incredible talents, who then became not only partners in many projects and training events, but also friends. Definitely one of them is Sara Roversi, a tireless sower of hope in the future and in young people. She and her staff of experts are eclectic trainers and mentors always looking for concrete and possible ways for a real change in lifestyles. I have done many projects with them, even during the period of Covid-19, because they are 'pliant' to change. Many students and teachers have been to Pollica and participated in their Boot Camps and roundtables, cultural events, conferences and hackathons. Each time they came back transformed and more aware. Sometimes they didn't come back at all: some of my students, in fact, stayed in Pollica after the State Exam and are now part of the staff. I always follow Sara: I read her posts in national newspapers, on social media and around the world as a tireless Climate Shaper, a virtuous example of a builder of a possible future. Today I have an opportunity to thank her and the whole organization for what they do to make the world better than we found it.” (TRANSLATED from Italian) Maura Zini, Head of the Lazzaro Spallanzani Institute of Modena “Is it really possible? [...] Only crazy people can put real, concrete, seemingly larger-than-life challenges into the hands of a few dozen bewildered teenagers ... with the expectation that they will arrive at prototyping a possible solution within 2 days! Fools or people who have great faith in young people, who know the power of teamwork, and who can rely on an established method to get great ideas and concrete results out of the young people themselves ... in essence real EDUCATORS. From remote Hackathons to Boot Camps, the Future Food Institute has offered the young people (and also the teachers who got involved) a valuable opportunity to meet important people (from MIUR staffers to international figures and Ms. Olimpia from Pollica), to change perspectives and points of view, and to grow as people and as slightly more aware citizens. So yes: it really is possible!” (TRANSLATED from Italian) Teacher, HACKATHON
17
“The Digital Boot Camp experience was very valuable because it offered our students the opportunity to open up, dialogue and meet the world. Even without being able to move, the students had an extraordinary international experience, working with experts and participants of different generations from all over the world. The Boot Camp was an opportunity to say "I" about a topic as vast and crucial as "food," to find possible solutions to sustain our planet, demonstrating that the school does not stand still and knows how to introduce children to the most current challenges.” (TRANSLATED from Italian) Teacher, DIGITAL BOOTCAMP “Working with the Future Food Institute is an extraordinary opportunity to connect my daily work with the breath of the world. Together with the FFI staff, I have had the opportunity to learn about methodologies that are specific to the world of innovation and that can fruitfully contaminate teaching activities as well. Schools can innovate and grow only in collaboration with determined and professional people.” (TRANSLATED from Italian) Teacher, COSMOPOLITES “The activity with the environmental hiking guide made me realize that it really is possible to learn from experience and reality, in fact it is much better and much truer.” (TRANSLATED from Italian) Teacher, EDUCATIONAL TRIP The hackathon didactic sessions we did were instrumental in performing the tasks assigned to me better and faster. Student, HACKATHON The experiences I had in Pollica, the topics covered, and the people I met..a unique experience! Student, BOOTCAMP

PON (National Operational Program)
discovering the values and resources around us We co-design PON pathways for and with schools on the following topics: Civic Education; Sustainable Development Goals and Agenda 2030; Mediterranean Diet; Integral Ecology; Agribusiness Innovation; Agribusiness Sustainability; Water; Regeneration; Mindset and Prosperity Thinking. Some examples: US AND THE AGENDA 2030 Together, we learn about and explore the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda, make their values our own, and discover how we can contribute to a better future for ourselves and the planet.
HANDS IN THE EARTH AND HANDS IN DOUGH: DISCOVERING THE INGREDIENTS OF THE MEDITERRANEAN DIET Let us rediscover the tangible and intangible heritage of the Mediterranean Diet and become its first promoters and innovators: from tradition to our food future.
*EU Project: The National Operational Program (NOP) of the Ministry of Education, University and Research, titled "For School - Skills and Environments for Learning," financed by the European Structural Funds contains the strategic priorities of the education sector.
21
Experiential projects
in the territory and for the community We support schools in creating experiential projects on the ground and in connection with their communities. An example: EDIBLE GARDENS The partnership between IC Patroni School in Pollica, South Bronx Community School 55, the Future Food Institute and Campustore gave birth to the Gardens at School project, which brings Green Bronx Machine's Tower Gardens with more than 50 different types of vegetables into the classroom to educate about "urban farming" and disseminate "food literacy" to young children. The garden as an educational model that focuses on "care" for life, health and the environment. *Tower gardens can be funded through the PON Edugreen and Green Laboratories Call for Proposals.
Write to us to design an unforgettable experience! 22
Hackathons x KIDS Children have an innate curiosity that pushes them to question everything, constantly helping them to dream and discover new opportunities-that's why they are the perfect recipients of hackathons: challenge-driven project marathons that train collaboration and nurture creativity. An example: Pollicalandia: The HeART of Fun In March 2022, 30 children from Pollica co-designed the village playroom, Pollicalandia: the HeART of Fun. A collaborative and community learning experience that went far beyond the playroom and imagined a space for rediscovering the territory and its values: ecology, conviviality, biodiversity and sociality typical of the Mediterranean Diet that finds its cradle in Pollica.
Contact us to find challenges for small innovators! 23
Design Thinking and CBL (Challenge-Based Learning)
Design Thinking represents a teamwork methodology that is adopted to solve problems and achieve innovative solutions. The ecosystemic challenges of the present and future, require children to develop a "makers" mentality, and Design Thinking is an excellent approach that enhances creative and lateral thinking and increases the value of collaboration; trains the ability to accept failure, take risks and develop perseverance; to identify problems and turn them into workable solutions. An example: SCUDERIA KIDS LAB Three workshops and three challenges dedicated to the world of food innovation, sustainability and proper nutrition, learning and having fun at the same time: Urban Farming, Food Waste and Product Innovation.
Write to us to co-create an innovation lab! 24
Paideia Digital Academy X KIDS A set of courses to accelerate the country's Digital and Ecological Transition through a preventive Cultural Transition, which necessarily passes through the acquisition of new digital skills and systemic thinking frameworks: toward integral literacy. Some examples:

Free time and summer activities Summer is an important time in children's education; it is the time when they "metabolize" what they have learned during the school year and make a wonderful developmental leap that is then evident in the classroom in September. Therefore, the Future Food Institute offers "different" learning opportunities during the warm summer months. Some examples: DISCOVERY: SCIENTISTS AND YOUNG EXPLORERS DISCOVERING THE PLANET Backpacks, comfortable shoes and a lot of curiosity: accompanied by the AIGAE hiking guides of Cilentamente, the little explorers venture into the natural and rural landscapes of the municipal circuit of Pollica and San Mauro Cilento to discover the stories and legends of the area, peasant traditions, as well as the local floristic and faunal heritage, in paths of education to integral ecology starting from the appreciation, and respect, of the Nature that hosts us. RARECHE LABS In Vallo della Lucania, at Rareche Mercato Naturale, we held workshops for children to discover regenerative agriculture, the topic of food waste and the foods of the future!

Teacher training
Creating multidisciplinary lessons We support elementary school leaders and teachers to develop innovative educational plans that promote healthy eating and climate sensitivity in the citizens of the future. These programs aim to transfer to the home as well, also raising awareness in parents. An example:
GOOD FOR FOOD Promoted by the Municipality of Bologna, Fondazione Golinelli and Future Food Institute, this initiative involved 350 schools in 2020, bringing three pivotal themes into the classroom: food and culture, food and science, and food and environmental sustainability. Starting with the seasons, traditions and colors, it was to convey the culture of quality food, the importance of healthy eating and the interrelationship between food, society and the planet.
