Beachfront
Unified Decisioning Engine used today by several leading media owners and programmers to achieve higher yield for their CTV inventory. Additionally, the product enables premium ad experiences for viewers, and more value for brands investing in CTV. As a result of these efforts (to modernize the ad tech being used in CTV), our Unified Decisioning Engine has been recognized by Business Insider (https://bit.ly/3ppGJHT) and the International Broadcasting Convention (IBC) (https://bit. ly/2ONLOgL).
to TV environments, where commercial breaks feature multiple spots and programmers need to meticulously control the way their inventory is sold. To solve these challenges, Beachfront developed a more TV-centric way to monetize CTV in launching our Unified Decisioning Engine (or Pod Bidding). As the first ad management solution designed to honor full TV commercial breaks, our Unified Decisioning Engine (https://bit.ly/3dlNs3f) helps programmers better manage their inventory, buyer relationships and partner creatives. Launched in May of last year, the product is
Given the value that Beachfront’s Unified Decisioning Engine brings to all stakeholders in the Connected TV ecosystem — programmers, platforms, advertisers and viewers — we feel strongly that it is deserving of a TV Tech Leadership Product Award. The industry is on the cusp of great innovation and change, and we’re confident Beachfront’s Unified Decisioning Engine will continue playing a major role in the way programmers manage their advertising — and deliver value to viewers and advertising partners alike.
Best Advertising, Subscriber and Enterprise Technology
Connected TV (CTV) grew exponentially in 2020, with viewers streaming more ad-supported content and media buyers looking to invest more in CTV advertising. Amid this growth, it became incredibly challenging for programmers to manage and monetize their CTV ad inventory, while delivering TV-like ad experiences to viewers. These challenges stemmed from the use of antiquated advertising technology originally built for web environments (where there is one pre-roll ad per one video). This tech doesn’t translate well

ENGINE Media Exchange (EMX)
Best Advertising, Subscriber and Enterprise Technology
CTV Incremental Reach Impact Measurement Solution With the massive growth in CTV consumption since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, many brands sought tools to better navigate the medium and create cross-screen strategies. One happened to be Whataburger, which sought to reach new audiences beyond its existing linear TV spend in CTV. But without a unified view of its media reach, Whataburger needed tools to seamlessly shift their strategy, measure the efficacy of CTV in driving incremental reach in their local markets and ensure they were reaching the right audience. To address these needs, Whataburger leveraged ENGINE Media Exchange’s (EMX) newly launched CTV Incremental Reach Impact Measurement solution. It provides a better understanding and cost analysis for audience reach as well as a single view of spending with a cost-per-reach comparison of CTV versus linear TV. With this solution, Whataburger was able to balance reach across linear and CTV — effectively driving optimization of reach and media for greater ROI with the most efficient cost per deduplicated incremental reach point and market. Fueled by EMX’s impact measurement insights, Whataburger was empow-
ered to increase CTV reach and shift spending from linear to CTV — achieving incremental reach, cost-effectiveness, greater return and ultimately the ability to improve future buying strategies and make better media decisions. Specifically, EMX helped Whataburger achieve a 30% lift in reach compared to linear along with a
136% new household penetration, outperforming Whataburger’s goals of +196% quarter on quarter (QoQ). EMX proved that the cost per incremental reach of CTV versus linear TV was 21X more effective. The measurement EMX provided also showed that CTV was 2X more effective at reaching the right audience. EMX helped Whataburger solve for these challenges — effectively linking their CTV and linear buys together for more comprehensive campaigns.

PRISMA
Best Advertising, Subscriber and Enterprise Technology
MediaKind PRISMA is a market-leading media advertising and linear content rights solution that personalizes the viewing experience by managing audience-based targeting use cases. It is designed to help bridge the gap between content providers and service providers by offering highly specialized content distribution rights definition and enforcement for traditional broadcast and OTT-based delivery, advanced scheduling control and targeted advertising capabilities. These include Dynamic Ad Insertion (DAI), localized content, content blackouts and security against piracy. PRISMA is tailored to manage and enforce contractual and legal obligations related to linear content rights across traditional broadcast and IP delivery. It enables broadcasters and service providers to evolve from the traditional “one-to-many” approach to “one-to-one” session-based conversations with targeted audiences in a high-value premium TV environment. PRISMA helps to simplify the process of DAI across an operator’s existing workflows, providing the tools to deliver a more seamless, targeted and relevant advertising experience across all screens. The platform provides additional opportunities for operators to monetize their advertising inventory by leveraging data to build more in-depth
knowledge and understanding of their audiences’ demands. In doing so, PRISMA unlocks the full revenue potential of advertising and alternate content and some of the increasingly complex challenges faced by operators and MVPDs today. Proximus, Belgium’s largest telecommunications service provider, recently deployed PRISMA to power its targeted advertising across all of its multiscreen TV services. This marked
the first commercial deployment of a targeted TV advertising solution for OTT streaming by a European operator. It covers all viewing formats, including linear, time-shifted and video-on-demand content. PRISMA can be deployed as a solution in the cloud, as an appliance or as components integrated into the broader MediaKind Universe portfolio of solutions.

LiveU
Best Cloud and IP Technology
LiveU Matrix LiveU Matrix has transformed the way that news is shared and distributed. Large media groups have been able to share content — whether it be storm coverage, school shootings, protests, etc. One station could share the live content with the entire group, enabling media groups to be leaner, more budget conscious, yet still provide expansive live content to its local audiences. During the COVID-19 pandemic, strict social-distancing guidelines meant that stations had to get creative with the way they covered news and events. LiveU Matrix has been paramount for stations to cover more ground with less resources, while adhering to social distancing guidelines. The George Floyd protests/Black Lives Matter movement and other protests/gatherings have reached global audiences by leveraging LiveU Matrix to share and distribute content efficiently and safely. Governors in several U.S. states are using LiveU
Matrix to deliver their daily live briefings directly to stations and networks from remote locations. LiveU has established a system of local loops around the globe through LiveU Matrix, allowing content from government and health agencies to be shared safely and easily with local and national broadcast networks. In these cooperating mar-
kets, stations can coordinate coverage of news conferences, press briefings and important government communications Without this live content, communities wouldn’t be aware of the current news, updates and restrictions. The ability to go live has helped connect and inform viewers around the globe.

SDNsquare
GRID
Best Cloud and IP Technology
GRID is SDNsquare’s patented, software-defined network controller. SDNsquare GRID uses software-defined networking to deliver IP network orchestration for media, whatever the use case, whatever the type of workflow. GRID can cope with all types of data streams in a predictable way. With GRID, IP data paths can be set up without packet loss, with low latency and with the exact bandwidth needed — even in bursty, high-impact traffic in many-to-many environments. While networking vendors and traditional broadcast manufacturers can propose limited, single-vendor setups for specific-use cases, they fail in more complex, convergent and scaled-up setups. GRID addresses the challenge of how to orchestrate the network so that it meets the exact needs of broadcasters dealing with a wide range of media workflows, and delivering guaranteed Quality of Service per stream on a single converged network with a scalable architecture. GRID delivers IP network management for media that is reliable, flexible and cost-effective. The numerous advantages of GRID include the fact that it is easy to deploy: it is truly plug-andplay, with autodiscovery, registration and con-
nection management according to AMWA and device specifications. GRID can be scaled from single studios and events to large and interconnected facilities, events and data centres — both LAN and WAN. With GRID, there is no need for users to duplicate their network, as it enables fully redundant paths to be set up, with automatic failover if links go down.
GRID is vendor-agnostic, reliable, flexible and scalable. GRID’s software transforms and orchestrates the IP network and the data flows to be fully predictable, non-blocking and 100% reliable. As a result, the network is also used much more cost-efficiently.

Stringr
Best Cloud and IP Technology
Stringr Stringr is the cloud-based engine behind some of the world’s most important breaking news and innovative video content. Stringr is a SaaS platform for video — offering footage, hosting, editing, app-based shooting and upload, collaboration and transcription tools — connected to a proprietary network of 120,000+ independent videographers who can get footage, interviews, and live streams anywhere. Clients include Associated Press, Reuters, CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox and local U.S. broadcasters. AP and Reuters are also now investors. Their partnership with Google News Initiative put footage in more than 75 percent of U.S. households. CEO and co-founder Lindsay Stewart started her career as a TV news producer with ABC, Fox and Bloomberg TV. She spotted inefficiencies in an industry that needed innovation. After earning MBAs from Wharton, Lindsay and cofounder Brian McNeill reimagined the newsgathering process, developing an intuitive cloud-based delivery platform that completely centralizes video acquisition and editing workflow. Gathering footage is costly for news organizations, especially if travel is required. So Stringr spent years recruiting tens of thousands of videographers, optimizing their app for record-
ing and uploads, building features like Dual Live (enables two simultaneous HD streams from one smartphone), and ranking videographers for special assignments. Today, Stringr offers almost a million video clips, with breaking news added daily. At conservative estimate, outlets that make full use of Stringr’s offerings can save $100,000 or more on newsgathering.
Outside of newsrooms, digital creators at studios like MGM rely on Stringr, as do hundreds of independent filmmakers, marketers, and agencies. Stringr has developed services for SMBs and DTC companies, creating product-focused videos in half the time at about a third the cost. Their Vantage tool enables companies with hundreds of SKUs to collect and organize user-generated videos in one place, transforming the way product video is managed.

TSL Products Best Cloud and IP Technology
GTP-V1
TSL’s virtualized control processor, the GTP-V1, provides broadcasters with greater flexibility and increased rack density for more advanced installations, ease of management and life cycle. With lower hardware costs, reduced maintenance costs, the ability to manage hardware obsolescence and simplified IT maintenance, it is easy to understand why broadcasters are trending towards virtualized systems. Virtualization can provide highly reliable performance, as well as dramatically simplified upgradability with minimal downtime, as users scale and adapt their system as requirements change over time. It is crucial that manufacturers recognize that future trends and technical advancements must align with requirements of customers as the demand for remote production solutions continues to rise. Using a virtual control system can deliver optimized solutions that are dependable and simple to adjust quickly to changing needs. Virtualized control also supports network growth and identifies workflow gaps or trigger interruptions. • The GTP-V1 allows TSL’s control systems to be hosted as on-prem, off-prem or in cloud control
solutions, working as a virtual machine on existing hardware. • As the GTP-V1 can run on most cloud solutions, the virtual set up allows customers to keep the resource where the talent is, or hand over to a third-party provider perhaps where space is limited elsewhere. • In addition, the GTP-V1 offers lower power consumption and heat generation (a 46% reduction), to meet the ever-growing need for efficiency savings of both power and cooling, but also the greater effects of energy consumption for a reduced carbon footprint.

TVU Partyline Best Cloud and IP Technology
Consumer-grade video conferencing applications have skyrocketed in popularity due to COVID-19. While these apps are perfectly suitable for simple online meetings, they fall short of the higher requirements needed for remote collaboration in a broadcast video production environment. A more effective tool is required to allow technical staff and talent to work together remotely using broadcast-quality video conferencing. Cloud-based TVU Partyline allows all members in a remote production environment to communicate seamlessly. Production crews, talent and guests can use production tools and interact in real time with full HD video quality, perfectly synchronized audio and video and mix minus one audio feedback. With a simple shared URL, participants can join TVU Partyline to watch all program feeds live and interact, discuss, control and participate in a production with almost no latency. In a live production, TVU Partyline permits a single video conferencing session to run live in which all participants can interact while in parallel production crews can have separate private conversations in the same session. Ultra-low latency, broadcast-quality video and perfectly synced video and audio are critical for effective collabo-
ration in a remote production environment. With Partyline, all parties participating in a production — crew, talent and guests — can experience the same high-quality HD video and low latency. TVU Partyline is flexible. In addition to conferencing for broadcast-quality production, Partyline allows users to hold virtual press conferences in which a reporter can provide their questions in advance and then the reporter will appear in the same live frame with the host during their turn. It also has a mode that’s perfect for sporting events such as in a stadium in which an unlimited number of remote fans appear on a monitor as a part of a live broadcast.

MainStreaming
Best OTT and Streaming Technology
MainStreaming iMDP In today’s current broadcast climate, content consumers are more demanding than ever, have more provider options than ever and experience little to no switching cost. Content delivery networks must operate seamlessly; buffering or quality lapses can result in an instant loss of a customer, so broadcasters cannot afford to rely on “best effort” network configurations with no guarantee of quality. They need delivery networks that are adaptive and reactive, navigating the path to viewer in a way that ensures the highest level of reliability and exceptional Quality of Experience. MainStreaming’s Intelligent Media Delivery Platform (iMDP) was designed to ensure these outcomes. Representing a single integrated platform based on proprietary AI-powered Smart Synapses technology, the iMDP enables real-time decisions based on a continuous flow of metrics relating to viewer Quality of Experience. Taking advantage of a network backbone of over 4,300+ interconnections with ISPs worldwide, its smart selection of network paths with close-tozero latency ensures bufferless delivery even of real-time, live video. Far more than a conventional CDN solution, the exceptional network delivery performance facilitated by iMDP springs in part from the fact
that the technology was developed specifically for the delivery of video (with particular attention to the needs of this data type), as opposed to conventional CDNs, which are frequently based on legacy technologies designed to manage more generalized forms of data transfer. Covering the full video streaming workflow, from ingest to delivery, the platform uses AI to make intelligent decisions, while still granting content owners full transparency and control over the streaming process. Capable of being implemented as either a global, dedicated or hybrid private network based on viewer location, the iMDP allows for more efficient accommodation of fluctuating low-volume to peak distribution demands — making for an optimized, cost-effective content delivery process that maximizes broadcaster ROI.

Adobe
Best Production Technology
Adobe After Effects Adobe is focused on developing solutions that simplify tasks and improve efficiency to make storytelling easier in the broadcast and news business. To that end, Adobe has rolled out several recent improvements to After Effects that cement its place as the most reliable and agile tool for motion designers and video creators working today. A major release last year, Adobe’s Roto Brush 2 saves countless hours spent on the time-consuming task so that editors and artists can keep their focus on the creative process. Adobe’s Roto Brush 2 in After Effects uses Adobe Sensei machine-learning technology to quickly and easily generate accurate mattes when separating foreground and background elements in video sequences. Users simply paint over the object that they want to isolate in a reference frame, including edge refinements for hair or other textures, and Roto Brush 2 tracks the object automatically and follows its motion, eliminating the need for tedious manual frame-by-frame rotoscoping. Adobe has also recognized that working in 3D has become essential in producing compelling content for broadcast and advertisers. To mod-
ernize the 3D experience in After Effects, Adobe is currently testing key features through its Public Beta program. This includes 3D Transform Gizmos, which help users navigate a scene faster and more intuitively. Users can scale, position and rotate layers with helpful guides that show how far a layer or object
has been moved and how many degrees it has been rotated. Additionally, After Effects camera navigation tools are reimagined, giving artists an intuitive and flexible approach to navigate 3D spaces. Additional Public Beta features include Media Replacement in Motion Graphics templates (to be released on March 10), which provides new options for graphics workflows across After Effects and Premiere Pro. And, new Lighting Correction options in Content-Aware Fill will deliver cleaner object removal results, even with changing lighting conditions.

Premiere Pro Best Production Technology
Adobe Premiere Pro is powerful enough to create everything from Hollywood blockbusters, news and sports broadcasts, branded content for social media and everything in between. In the last year, Adobe has unveiled several improvements to the tool that directly serve the needs of video creators. A major feature release last year, Productions in Premiere Pro provides a new, highly scalable framework for organizing multi-project workflows, sharing assets and keeping everything streamlined whether individuals are working alone or collaborating. Productions improves workflows for broadcasters, providing editors new tools for staying organized, managing complex workflows efficiently and collaborating easily. Also, last fall Premiere Pro welcomed a trio of features that enable broadcasters to uplevel their content and work faster. HDR for Broadcasters enables users to produce programming in Rec2100 HLG HDR for modern HDR broadcasting, including automatic color conversion, HDR scope support, color space overrides for incorrect metadata, and full color management for Apple ProRes and Sony XAVC Intra formats. Quick Export offers easy access to the most popular and frequently used
export settings, right from the header bar in Premiere Pro. Editors can use the default, high-quality H.264 output with matched Source Settings or choose from a short list of H.264 presets that allow for the user to reduce the size of their export files. Scene Edit Detection allows editors to quickly find cuts in previously edited video, faster and more accurately, thanks to Adobe Sensei, Adobe’s machine-learning technology. The feature adds
cuts and markers so that users can apply effects to individual shots and re-edit previously rendered content quickly and efficiently. Lastly, Adobe has also expanded its partnerships for systems integrators with the Adobe Certified Service Partner for Video and Audio program, to ensure that Adobe customers get the support they need to produce high-quality content as efficiently as possible.

Audio Design Desk
Best Production Technology
Audio Design Desk Until now, there hasn’t been an application built from the ground up to connect audio to video. Finding and placing audio using industry standard tools is slow, uninspiring and expensive. It takes forever to search libraries, download sounds, drag them into your timeline and edit them to sync. Plus, to make changes, you have to go through this outdated process all over again. Audio Design Desk introduces a revolutionary way to add sound to picture. It’s the audio workstation you can play like an instrument. Using an A.I. called Sonic Intelligence™, users can perform sounds in real time using their QWERTY keyboard while watching video, and they can then replace their sounds with alternates at will, which increases their workflow 20x. Audio Design Desk comes with more than 25,000 sounds embedded with this Sonic Intelligence™, which makes finding, placing, manipulating and creating music, sound design, and sound effects faster than ever—and once your first set of sounds are placed, you can create infinite alternate compositions refined by genre or mood with a few mouse clicks while retaining sync. As Academy Award-nominated editor Matthew
Cooke says, “There isn’t another piece of software that allows you to instantly create at this level of professionalism.” These types of automations are exactly what professional applications need to allow artists to instantly create rather than struggle through confusing file menus and complex processes. This software is more than a tool; it is a creative assistant. Audio Design Desk is currently saving time for editors at Netflix, Amazon Prime, HBO Max and many others. We deserve this award because we have built a game changing production suite that is unlike anything on the market and we did it on our own through focus, research, creativity and hard work.

Bridge Technologies
Best Production Technology
VB444 IP Audio Metering While video production frequently focuses on visual quality, research indicates that audiences are more likely to turn off on the basis of poor audio quality. Bridge Technologies’ new VB440 IP Audio Metering introduces advanced “visual” audio monitoring features to an already award-winning set of wider IP-based monitoring metrics, ensuring the highest production standards for on- and off-site production, whether live or recorded. These enhancements include the ability to measure multichannel audio across 64 channels within one flow (with a service containing as many flows as desired). A microphase meter gives quick insight into the phase balance of each audio pair, but is further enhanced with the integration of a Gonion meter, which can reveal incompatibilities in multi-microphone sound fields. A LUFS meter has also been added, facilitating vital control over the dynamic range of an audio mix and ensuring that audiences experience a full range of sound (from dialogue to music) without constantly reaching for the volume button. Be it the pianissimo and forte of classical music or the roar of a crowd in a stadium, Bridge’s VB440 IP
Audio Metering allows sound engineers the precision they need to manage the ultimate sound experience that viewers receive — in real time if needed — facilitating not only technical precision, but creative control. The meters have been designed in collaboration with professional audio engineers, ensuring that each meter maintains appropriate ballistics; delivering measurements that are precise without being unreadable. This stands in line with Bridge’s
more broad philosophy that monitoring metrics should be comprehensive and detailed, but more than anything, comprehensible and capable of informing decision-making. As such, the highly intuitive visual GUI, which has always been at the heart of the VB440, remains, ensuring fast access to source selection, and keeping the context of the task front and centre.

Canon EOS C70 4K UHD Digital Cinema Camera The first Cinema EOS Camera with an RF mount, both compact and lightweight, the camera features Canon’’s innovative and next-generation Super 35mm DGO Sensor that further extends the high dynamic range and lowers noise levels by reading out each photodiode with two different gains. One gain prioritizes saturation — protecting detail in highlight areas — while the other suppresses noise in the shadows. The result is an image with up to 16-plus stops of total dynamic range, clean, rich shadows and vibrant highlights in up to 4K/ 60p or 2K/120p in Super16mm Crop mode. The camera supports XF-AVC format (in variable bit-rate) — both Intra and Long GOP with MXF file format. The intra-frame format compresses the data after analyzing each frame separately, while Long GOP format compresses data at a higher rate, creating an even smaller file size. A secondary choice is Long GOP 10-bit 4:2:2/4:2:0 MP4/HEVC (a next-generation HDR video recording compression standard) with

Best Production Technology
disguise xR disguise has led the way for Extended Reality (xR) and virtual production, accelerating development of its workflow and launching at a time when the live events industry has started recognizing the demand for immersive yet remote real-time production. Our technology blends virtual and physical worlds together using augmented reality (AR) and mixed reality (MR) in live production environments to create fully immersive experiences. By enabling real-time graphics to be mapped onto LED surfaces, xR places performers and presenters into computer-generated environments on camera, allowing them to see the content they are immersed in. Born out of a need to deliver a new form of immersive studio environment for Eurosport’s coverage of the 2018 Winter Olympics, disguise xR has since developed into a robust workflow with applications across broadcast, film and episodic TV, corporate events, live music and esports. Following two years of continued research and development, the technology reached a level of maturity that enabled an official release in April 2020, accelerated by the demand from artists, brands and organizations to engage remote audiences like never before. In under a year the importance of xR innovations have revolutionized production. Over 100 disguise xR stages have been built in 35+ countries to support the growing demand. These stages have been instrumental in spearheading xR for key projects like the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards and “America’s Got Talent,” live performances from artists like Billie Eilish and Katy Perry, corporate presentations from Siemens and
SAP and on-set virtual production from notable VFX studios like Framestore and Orca Studios. At disguise we continue to invest in our technology, unlocking creative opportunities in new markets and lowering the barrier of entry to xR. We also launched an e-learning platform offering free online training into disguise workflows, enabling users to deliver complex productions with ease.

Wildmoka
Wildmoka Auto ReZone Best Production Technology
The Wildmoka Solution: Auto ReZone (Third-Generation of Image Auto Verticalization) The Wildmoka Auto ReZone has been developed to transpose a 16:9 feed, in real time into a vertical 9:16 (or even 1:1) feed and this, powered by the Wildmoka AI/Machine Learning engine. Some solutions to transpose images from 16:9 to 9:16 automatically have been recently announced (Adobe Auto Reframe at IBC Sept. 2019, or Google AutoFlip in Feb. 2020) but 1) none of them are real time (they are made for post production versus live feeds); and 2) they are what we call a Second Generation since they only dynamically and automatically extract a 9:16 zone within the 16:9 as shown in the picture. It is a simple cropping that results in a lot of information lost (including titles, lower third, watermarks, etc.).
ReZone supports an unlimited number of situations, combining speakers, studio shooting and recorded video, weather forecast and so on. All the zones of interest are detected frame by frame by the Wildmoka AI/ML algorithms. The Benefits to Broadcasters • Deliver a premium mobile-first experience without changing your existing newsroom workflow. • Boost your audience, including on youth and senior market segments. • Extend your mobile audience’s average viewing time. • Differentiate on social media with vertical formats. • Become the place to be for advertisers.
How Does “Auto ReZone” Work? The process to transform a feed takes less than 10 seconds by the servers in the cloud (so the newly generated stream has a minimum timeshift compared to the 16:9 original feed). The goal for a broadcaster is to offer both the horizontal format and the vertical ones for live shows.

Digital Nirvana
Trance 3.1
Best TV Infrastructure
Trance 3.1 is an enterprise-grade, cloud-based application for closed captioning and transcription. With Trance 3.1, Digital Nirvana has added new features that use natural language processing (NLP) to convert transcripts into captions automatically and to detect shot changes automatically. Trance 3.1 is the industry’s first closed-captioning solution to offer NLP-based auto-conversion, which automatically converts transcripts into highly accurate, time-synched closed captions. As part of this exclusive feature, Trance automatically identifies music, silence and other nontext audio and provides intelligent line breaks for captions. Previously, operators had to manually correct the awkward splitting of words that appeared at the end of lines or dangling punctuation. Now, Trance automatically moves such words to the next line and takes into account multiword proper names that should be kept together. For instance, if “New York” appears at the end of a caption line, Trance will move the full title to the next line. Robust presets and grammar rules ensure that lines do not start with misplaced punctuation, such as the apostrophe in a contrac-
tion (e.g., with the contraction “they’re,” Trance will move the entire word to the next line). The latest version of Trance sets another industry standard with automatic shot change detection, including configurable thresholds for generating alerts when captions fall out of compliance. For instance, Trance can identify the end of a shot and ensure that captions belonging to the shot do not cross over. Trance 3.1 now includes a
frame-rate conversion feature that automatically converts captions and video that is to be repurposed for multiple platforms. Trance automatically converts the original captions from 29.97 fps (for broadcast) and generates a new caption file with time codes in the 24.97 frame rate needed for web streaming.

MediaKind
VSPP
Best TV Infrastructure
As viewing habits become increasingly fragmented in today’s streaming landscape, broadcasters, operators and content owners must deliver across more digital platforms, irrespective of often static budgets. To ensure efficiencies, they are looking to maintain legacy environments with minimal overhead costs. Streaming platforms accommodating both CBR and ABR subscribers require streamlined solutions for recording and playing the same content for different clients. MediaKind’s Video Storage and Processing Platform (VSPP) is a unified solution for cloud DVR, on-demand and time-/place-shifted services, offering better performance, reduced latency and lower CAPEX and TCO. VSPP provides CBR and ABR streaming services allowing users to build a unified cluster with a single ABR recording copy. It, therefore, removes content recording duplication and enables savings on storage of up to 30%. VSPP features a high-performance scale-out file system that clusters all storage server nodes into a single namespace. The solution leverages a shared resource concept, meaning each added VSPP storage-less node contributes its local compute resources to the entire processing power of the VSPP cluster; maximizing the deployment efficiency, and saving on processing costs and overall server footprint.
VSPP also harnesses a geo-redundant self-healing architecture for multiple use cases — including a rolling buffer for replay services, nPVR assets, and archive content — to allow for layers of content protection. The solution extends content durability and availability by providing a continuous streaming experience, even when the original content is corrupted by external (source, network) or internal (hardware or disk failure) fac-
tors. VSPP enables recording recovery by using data synchronization to remove any service impact, for example, in a site failure case. This means less service outage and reduced subscriber and viewer churn, ensuring revenues are maintained. MEO, Portugal’s leading pay-TV service, expanded its video storage and processing capabilities with VSPP to deliver multiple OTT services to any device.

Organizations needing to ingest and process video, digital images and other large unstructured data sets are increasingly turning to NVMe storage because of its dramatic performance advantages over traditional SSD and HDD storage. By implementing NVMe in a StorNext file system environment, StorNext accelerates throughput for streaming workloads for fast ingest of large data sets and improved processing, editing and analysis of video and other forms of unstructured data. NVMe is also enabling customers to gain back valuable data center space by replacing racks of HDD storage with compact NVMe storage servers. The new StorNext File System Pools enable
administrators to define pools of NVMe, SSD and HDD within their file system and create policies to move files and folders between those pools automatically. As a result, files move seamlessly between pools for greater performance at a lower overall cost. StorNext 7 offers expanded web services APIs that provide new ways to query metadata, automate data movement, and configure and manage the file system. An all-new user interface makes the StorNext File System significantly easier to navigate and manage. StorNext 7 is available via a simplified, capacity-based licensing model that better aligns software services with customer value.
