WELCOME Using Data to Personalize Learning Welcome to the Chicago Tech & Learning Leadership Summit! Over the next two days, we will discuss ways in which you use data to personalize education through a series of experiences and conversations. We will kick off our event with a visit to Argonne National Laboratory, where Summit attendees will tour one of Argonne’s world-leading scientific research facilities and engage in a discussion about workforce development for the next generation of science, innovation and technology leaders. On Saturday, attendees will meet Alex Seeskin, Director of Strategy, University of Chicago Urban Education Institute, who will present UEI’s recent report “Using Data to Improve Schools from the Ground Up” to show how data can be used to personalize learning. You will then have the chance to break into small groups to dive deeper into this topic and brainstorm ways you might integrate some of these ideas into your districts. We’ll then move into a series of workgroups, where you will have the opportunity to network with your peers and discuss key topics vital to your work. Themes addressed will include changing pedagogy, emerging technology, blended learning, digital citizenship, data security, and more. It is our hope that each of you will walk away with solutions to some of your most challenging concerns, actionable ideas that you can begin to implement in your own districts, and an expanded professional network of colleagues and friends with whom you can continue a fruitful dialogue. In our follow-up report to be published in Tech & Learning, we’ll be sharing highlights and key takeaways from our experiences here in Chicago. Enjoy! Christine Weiser Tech & Learning @techlearning

Yorkville CUSD 115 adopted Gaggle three years ago after deploying a 1:1 computer initiative and fielding community member and parent concerns about how students’ digital usage would be monitored. “We started looking for software that could monitor the email and document collaboration taking place in Google Docs,” said Mr. Adkins. “At the time, our top focus was on how to monitor concerns related to the potential for cyberbullying.”

“We understood how we wanted the software to work and how we felt it should work, and Gaggle checked all of those boxes,” Mr. Adkins explained, adding that Gaggle’s customer service support and agents (who share the high-level alerts) are both second to none.
