LIFE HACK

Share your photos with SkyDrive SkyDrive is a great way to store photos and share them online What is SkyDrive? SkyDrive is the new way to store files, folders, images, videos and more. You can access it from any of your Windows 8 PCs, tablets and phones, or from any device with a web browser. SkyDrive uses cloud storage, so your files are stored on Microsoft’s servers for added security, and you can download them regardless of which devices are switched on. It’s especially good for photos, because you can see them as previews at www.skydrive.com.

Upload your photos The easiest way to upload your photos is with the SkyDrive Windows 8 desktop app from www.skydrive.com. It creates a folder on your PC that’s kept in sync with your SkyDrive. The app is always running, so anything you drop into that folder will be uploaded as long as your Windows 8 PC is connected to the internet. You can install the app on all your PCs, so you’ll always have access to your SkyDrive folder, no matter which one you use. 80

See your photos The best way to browse your images is with the WIndows 8 Microsoft SkyDrive app, which you can get from the Windows store. It lets you arrange photos by folder, then displays your chosen images in a grid. It’ll show your photos as thumbnails by default, but you can also choose to see more details, like when they were taken. Should you wish to, you can upload more photos to the folder directly from the SkyDrive app.

Extend your storage

Share your photos

SkyDrive comes with 7GB of storage for free, but if you want to upload all your photos, you might want more space. It’s easy to upgrade your SkyDrive, and prices start at just £6 per year for an extra 20GB. That’ll give you a huge 27GB of space in total. SkyDrive keeps your data securely, so you know that your photos are in safe hands, and they’ll always be there in case your PC fails. It’s a great way to store and share all your photos.

It’s easy to share photos. Just press and hold on the image (right-click if using a mouse) and select ‘Sharing’ when browsing a folder. Or use the Share charm on your Windows 8 Start screen – in the SkyDrive app, select a photo then swipe in from the right-hand side of the screen (or move your mouse to one of the right-hand corners of the screen) and select ‘Share’. You’ll be able to email or post your photo wherever you want. 81
