2022 FLORIDA WATER RESOURCES CONFERENCE
Dear Fellow Water Professionals, It is my pleasure to welcome you to Florida Water Resources Conference 2022 after a threeyear break! Daytona Beach is known for bringing together the wildest groups–motorcyclists, NASCAR fans, spring breakers, and now dedicated water professionals. The conference is able to bounce back only from your support: by registering, volunteering, setting up exhibits, and becoming a sponsor, your involvement is strengthening our organization. Thanks to all the presenters, moderators, and workshop coordinators for sharing your expertise with us. Also, thank you to the volunteers running the registration desk and assisting the session moderators. Many thanks are also due to the Board Members and Trustees for their valuable input and feedback as we were planning the conference details. Finally, I am very thankful to our fellow FWRC officers and our Executive Manager for their hard work in making this event a great success. We hope that FWRC 2022 will be a memorable event for you. We picked a central location, informative technical sessions, and have coordinated helpful exhibits. There will be no shortage of networking opportunities! While in the city, please enjoy the iconic beaches and outdoor activities. Please make sure to explore the history and culture of the city. Most importantly, let’s all stay safe. While many of the COVID rules have been lifted, we still need to do our individual part to keep ourselves healthy. If we can be of any help during your stay in Daytona Beach, please do not hesitate to contact us. We look forward to your feedback for future conference improvements.
Tim Madhanagopal Tim Madhanagopal President, Florida Water Resources Conference Inc. MISSION STATEMENT: The Florida Water Resources Conference mission is to work for the advancement of science and education by distribution of its funds, particularly for development of professional continuing education in environmental materials, journals, services, and scholarly activities associated with the water and wastewater industry.

Workshop 1: Introduction to Stormwater - The need for effective stormwater management and fundamental concepts. Moderator: Tom King Workshop 2: Innovative Forum - The purpose of the workshop is to learn and experience innovation practices that will allow everyone in an organization to exercise their creative potential. This workshop will help you understand why innovation should be a strategy in every organization, especially in the water sector, because change is inevitable. Moderator: Mike Sweeney Workshop 3: Communities Meeting with PFAS Challenge - This session brings together leading PFAS experts in Florida and beyond, providing water professionals and private-sector attendees insights on a range of topics, including a history and outlook of EPA PFAS regulations provided by Robert Bilott, noted environmental attorney who brought lawsuits against DuPont on behalf of plaintiffs in West Virginia beginning in 1999. Learn also from experts directly involved in the FDEP PFAS cleanup program and municipalities providing real-world examples of successful PFAS management plans, pretreatment, treatment, and disposal. Moderator: Viraj deSilva, Freese & Nichols. Speakers: Robert A. Bilott (Taft & Hollister, LLP), Jennifer Farrell (FDEP), Virginia Walsh (Miami Dade Water and Sewer Department), Jeaniece Slater (West Morgan East Lawrence Water and Sewer), David Peters (City of Stuart - retired) Workshop 4: Public Utilities Potpourri: Resiliency Funding, Senate Bill 64 Compliance Strategies, Legislative and Regulatory Update, and Interactive Lead and Copper Rule Revisions Workshop - The FWEA Water Resources, Reuse, and Resiliency (WR3) Committee, FWEA Utility Council (FWEAUC), and FSAWWA Water Utility Council (FSAWWA WUC) have pulled together their resources to present this highly informative and interactive workshop. Workshop 5: Collection Systems - The purpose of this workshop is to continue the collection systems series and present smart collection system monitoring to enhance pretreatment programs; septic conversions via vacuum systems; utilize natural, ecofriendly biological methods for treatment; and provide an update on the federal funding levels for Florida, the intent of the money, and how local governments can obtain funding through this Infrastructure Bill. Moderator: Heather Ripley (Kimley-Horn); Speakers: Jamison Tondreault / Kelly Smith (Kimley Horn), Michael Pringle (Flovac), Suzan Marie Chin (Creative Raven), Rod Dickerson (EnBiorganic Technologies), Lee Hale (Hale Innovation) Workshop 6: Communications - Direct and relevant communication with customers, stakeholders, and employees is vital to utilities management and operations. Utilities are faced with many communication challenges due to growing customer expectations, new regulations, increasing rates, and proliferation of communication channels. Most utilities do not have a focused communications team and lack of coordination among siloed groups leads to inefficiencies and fragmented messaging that leaves customers confused and frustrated. This workshop will cover multiple aspects of utilities communications, including how to engage with stakeholders, such as appointing authorities and media enquiries, leveraging available technologies to improve customer experience, and informing customers about emerging contaminants. Moderator: Bina Nayak (Pinellas County); Speakers: Christine Owen (Hazen & Sawyer), Ed Torres and Sarah Lux (Orange County Utilities), Jennifer L. Messemer-Skold (Miami Water & Sewer Department), John Appenzeller (Hillsborough County) Workshop 7: Top Five Factors to Consider When Choosing a Delivery Method – Client and Contractor Perspective - Looking at the delivery method options (hard bid, CMAR, CM/GC, PDB, FPDB, with case study examples. LIKE AN MRI FOR WASTEWATER TANKS
SediVision helps wastewater managers ‘see’ and prioritize problems associated with reduced capacity by providing complete visibility in full wastewater tanks. SediVision reduces uncertainty in the quantity of material without the need to drain down a wastewater tank.
SEDIVISION FOR WASTEWATER MANAGERS Is loss of treatment volume a concern? Determine the size of the problem. Is inflow a problem? Determine collection system influence on treatment capacity. Establish a tank cleaning schedule. Plan capital expense and maintenance activity better. Eliminate the guesswork.
