This year is a momentous one for me - it marks my 30th year as a professional conductor! What a privilege it is to be able to build a career around an art form that exudes passion, touches the spirit and brings communities together. With the 201819 season, I also begin my 19th season as Music Director for the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. Creating music with my colleagues, the wonderful musicians of the FWSO, continues to be such an exciting thing and I’m thrilled to be bringing our audiences more wonderful concert experiences over the coming months. We have a great balance of beloved works (Brahms, Richard Strauss, Ravel, and Tchaikovsky) and new music from visiting composers Jimmy López, Andrew Norman, and Antonio Juan-Marcos. These brilliant young composers propel our art forward with new influences and fresh ideas. The orchestra also celebrates the music and centennial year of the great American composer Leonard Bernstein with three evenings devoted to his greatest works. We will see many exciting guest artists including violinist James Ehnes, pianist Alessio Bax, FWSO Principal Oboe Jennifer Corning Lucio, violinist Simone Porter, pianist Stephen Hough, percussionist Colin Currie, and guitarist Pablo Sáinz Villegas. Each season we challenge ourselves to reach higher goals of artistic achievement. We couldn’t do it without your enthusiasm and support.

The opening festival concert spotlights the symphonic music of Leonard Bernstein. Full of both pulsating Latin rhythms and of lyrical and thoroughly romantic music, the Symphonic Dances from West Side Story weaves together many of the most memorable moments and melodies from the celebrated musical.
