2014 Young Artist Competition The first prize winner of the Fort Worth Symphony Young Artist Competition will receive the Erma Lowe Young Artist Award, a $5,000 scholarship made possible by a grant from the Lowe Foundation. In addition, they will have the opportunity to perform as soloist with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra. INSTRUMENTS Standard orchestral instruments, including piano, harp, and percussion.

PRELIMINARY ROUND Submitted recordings will be evaluated and all applicants will be notified of the results.

ELIGIBILITY Applicants must be 18 years of age or under on the day of the competition and must not have completed high school. Applicants must be current residents of the state of Texas. Applicants who have previously appeared with the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra must wait two full years to enter the competition again.

FINAL ROUND Up to twelve finalists may be selected for the final round. Live auditions will take place Tuesday, March 18, 2014, at Van Cliburn Recital Hall in downtown Fort Worth (330 East 4th Street, between Jones and Calhoun Streets). Candidates must be prepared to perform the complete work. Final auditions are not open to the public.

REPERTOIRE REQUIREMENTS A complete concerto or a single-movement work in the standard orchestral repertoire.

ACCOMPANIMENT Candidates are strongly advised to use their own accompanist during live auditions; however, a symphony accompanist will be available in case of emergency scheduling or financial constraints. Candidates using the symphony accompanist must provide a piano score.

APPLICATION Applicants are encouraged to upload their audition materials online at www.dropitto.me/fwsoeducation. Please email LBranch@fwsymphony.org for password. Short biography.

One letter of recommendation from private teacher or band/orchestra director.

Recorded performance of required repertoire with accompaniment. If submitting via mail, please include three CDs. Please list your name on each CD. Poor recording quality will affect evaluation. Recordings must be accompanied.
