WPFD2024 YOUTH PRESS ROOM
Mehrzad and Lars were part of the Unesco Youth Newsroom. In this Newsroom, they and 30 other young people covered the entire World Press Freedom Day 2024.. In addition to journalists, the Youth Newsroom included activists and fact-checkers. It is very important that the facts used are also checked. Only then can you practice constructive journalism. This project was started with the idea that the future generation (young people) should also have a place at the table of decision makers. Mehrzad and Lars learned a lot from the other young people and vice-versa. It was a project that is definitely worth repeating!

I can’t think of just one exemple, and that is the beauty of freedom of expression.
I can do my job as an activist.
WHAT CAN YOU DO AND SAY BECAUSE YOU HAVE FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION?
I can fact check everyone, even my own president. I can say: “Mr. president, you are wrong.”

Every year, the UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize is awarded. This year it was awarded to the courageous Palestinian journalist, Nasser Abu Bakr. Nasser is the head of the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate (PJS). He has lost many of his colleagues since Oct. 7, 2023, yet he maintains courage and hope. We felt honored to be present at this award ceremony!

Journalism needs to become both more critical and more creative. To access real news, we should not rely on fashy platforms like Instagram and Facebook. Let's give certain platforms creative quality labels that guarantee good content.

The Right To Know!
Reporters search for adults in their close environment. We need a very quick acceleration of the amount of adults who care for our future.
In a systematic way we cover the public spaces around us. In every media house we search for a critical friend.
How do we fact check? Every source of the UN we consider as highly reliable.
Be with us and learn all about action competent adults who will take care that we can start playing again in real time without being afraid of adults!
