CONTEXTUAL RESEARCH | CONTEXT OF PRACTICE PRACTICAL
My dissertation discusses the values of art in video games, and the importance of how art and specific pieces of art can influence the entire design and visual aesthetic of a video game. It made sense for my practical to echo this process, to try it out for myself and see the real value in this hybrid of aesthetic blending and the importance of reference and research in a visual context.

VISUAL RESEARCH | CONTEXT OF PRACTICE PRACTICAL
My main reference point for my proposed video game was the Pre-Raphaelite movement, the avant-garde of its time and founded in 1848. The rich colour schemes, rich aesthetics and air of mysticism about these works of art got my creativity going and so I researched into their process, what inspired them and how I can apply this to the art direction of my own video game.

CONCEPTUAL DEVELOPMENT | CONTEXT OF PRACTICE PRACTICAL
Character design and environment design became a core part of my practical, in order to build a solid video game aesthetic and creative an art direction you need to figure out what setting it is going to take place in, who the characters are and so on. The most pivotal points of conceptual work was going out and observing nature and creating the basis for the ‘main character’.

PROPOSED PRODUCTS | CONTEXT OF PRACTICE PRACTICAL
My proposed products are pieces of concept art and a poster for the proposed game itself, I also mock-up ideas for any merchandise and advertisement that I see necessary. The game itself is a product in of itself and has been the entire basis for my practical side since the beginning.
