SPECTRUM 23 – CALL FOR ENTRIES
Spectrum is a source for all upcoming practitioners and allows recognition of fantasy, horror, science-fiction and general artwork to be given the credit it deserves. Spectrum showcases contemporary art and design from thousands of young practitioners and gives recognition to this wide range of art and design. Spectrum itself acts as a book and in each issue has a wide range of different artists showing their own work for the world. The competition itself revolves around simply submitting your work in and putting it under a certain category such as: Advertising, Book Design, Concept art, Editorial, Dimensional and comics/graphic novels.
For this brief I chose the concept art category.

EARLY CONCEPT
Early sketchbook pages that showcase a variety of ideas that would eventually feed into one whole idea that I had in mind. I wanted to stick to a theme that would fit with my concept art and design of certain characters or landscapes. I chose a pseudo-gothic horror theme inspired from the paintings and art of the late Victorian times. I looked at European paintings from that era to get a good grasp of both the book and to see just how art worked in that time period. I responded to my visual research in my sketchbook and these pages are the result of that.

REFINED CONCEPT
I started to focus in on a certain character in the later stages of the designing process as well as sketching out certain landscapes and scenery in which this character would fit in as apart of the project Itself.
Since the overall aesthetic and theme of this project was heavily influenced by Victorian art and landscapes it made sense that the character would reflect that time period in some Manner as well as reflect the very tone of Pre-Raphaelite art movement.

SUBMISSION
Final images showcasing landscape & scenery design I wanted to keep the energy and emotion of my sketchbook to show in my final outcomes that revolved around the certain theme I had in mind. The final images are a result of both traditional and digital mediums blended together.
