THE BRIEF | APPLIED ILLUSTRATION – CHARACTER, NARRATIVE, ADVERTISING & PRODUCT
The brief touches upon many different specialisations in the industry today, the project overall has gone through changes over time. By introducing a classic set of stories from South America to an audience from children to young adults, and delving into the very nature of Peruvian folk-art and traditions. This project was focused around delving into the mysterious world of Andean legends and creating character, setting and design into the mix, with the main focus being around advertising and promoting an animated film together with the appropriate products and advertising that would go along with it.

RESEARCH | APPLIED ILLUSTRATION – CHARACTER, NARRATIVE, ADVERTISING & PRODUCT
Song of the Sea and other animated films where a source of inspiration for visual and
character context, it gave me a chance to also see illustrated visuals be applied to a finished product that was a film itself, as well as the promotional advertising that came with it.
Amelie Flechais, one of the concept artists who worked on Song of the Sea became a
huge inspiration throughout this whole project. Concept art overall is a area that I am particularly interested in, so I research into collections of art books of video games, films and animated shorts.

CONCEPT | APPLIED ILLUSTRATION – CHARACTER, NARRATIVE, ADVERTISING & PRODUCT
One of the major themes and concepts of this module has been the inspiration drawn from Peruvian and South American legends and folkart. This was especially important and interesting for me personally, given my heritage and background.
The process in my sketchbook evolved throughout this period, I studied the stories and legends I picked for this project and took inspiration from the landscapes of Peru and the very geography of South America. Inca culture also greatly influenced these visuals.

DEVELOPED WORK | APPLIED ILLUSTRATION – CHARACTER, NARRATIVE, ADVERTISING & PRODUCT
Refining and developing a small concept at the beginning into something that could be both branded and applied to multiple of products. I settled on a basic colour scheme at the beginning and worked on my created characters and began to work them into a constructed narrative inspired by Peruvian folklore. It was here that I slowly began to apply these illustrations onto products that would be appropriate for advertising and promotion.

FINALS & PRODUCTS | APPLIED ILLUSTRATION – CHARACTER, NARRATIVE, ADVERTISING & PRODUCT
Final mock-ups of the chosen products and application of illustrations and character designs. One of the most interesting ideas that I got inspired from through my earlier research with this project, was the idea of selling the concept artwork as a collection and a sold art book that the audience can buy.
