INTRODUCTION
CONTRASTING SILHOUETTES The only rule for our new collection has been there are no rules – apart from one thing, it must put big smiles on our faces. This collection emerged from our hearts in the realm of creativity and pays tribute to our everyday lives— everything from ups and downs, lessons learned, new relationships, old friends, and family. And love for interior design. We all know that our homes have become more than a place you come home to every day. Post-pandemic, most of us have overhauled our living spaces for work, rest, and play. More than ever, what we need now is to start living and dreaming again. We believe in curated personal items and calm interiors with a warm colour palette as a catalyst for a well-balanced home. A home where hope, everyday joy, community, and humour are equally important. A home where there is room for nuances, differences, and contrasts.

TO EXPERIMENT EXPLORE
&
In 2016, when Design Responsible Lotte Knudsen first started working for Hübsch, the look and feel of the design scheme tapped into a Nordic minimalist vibe. Since then, the conceptual foundation of the Hübsch brand DNA has moved away from a curated way of creating collections to an in-house design process from a-z.

How do you see the brand in the future? Moving forward, we will continue to work in-depth with quality, seating comfort, and sharpening the overall expression. However, with the current creative expression and Brand DNA, we are very close to where we want to be. We always strive to bring something new to our collections. Whether in terms of technique, the atmosphere, or enhancing the quality of our products, we are adamant about bringing something new to the collection.
What prompted the new design direction? We saw a shift in the way we decorate our homes. Much to do with the entwining of fashion and interior design, colours in our homes are not so intimidating anymore. Today, showing and reflecting your personality through décor is equally as important as the clothes your wear. Interior design has become a lifestyle. So, we wanted to realise that notion into a distinct brand DNA, in which we still have room to experiment and explore. Having said that, conceptualising a collection is also about function, feelings, and the enduser. We ultimately want people to feel happy when picking up a Hübsch product. Said in a Marie Kondo way, we want our products to spark joy. And that is always the primary catalyst.
33
BEHIND THE BRAND
Where do you find your inspiration? It is no secret that we are committed eclectics. We find inspiration everywhere, but primarily we look to Architecture and Art. We love to go back in time and explore different architectural styles across the ages and sense the decade’s vibe. Rethinking everyday objects, giving them a new twist, or added value is what we aim for.
How would you describe the Hübsch design direction and DNA? The design direction has undergone a significant change since I started working for Hübsch five years ago. It has been a process going from a more neutral concept to a design foundation where keywords such as colours, materials, and contrasts are imperative in creating and developing our products. A mix of yesterday, today, and tomorrow is a good way of describing our design direction.

What are the design considerations behind the Contrasting Silhouettes Collection? When we design a new collection, we may have a mood board at the back of our minds: but that’s it. The rest is very much an intuitive process. I work by hand, sketching and outlining on paper as part of the creative process. It’s a flow state method with the freedom to see what works. It can be a sculptural shape, an intriguing pattern, or a certain vibe. Once we recognise something of interest emerging from the hand drawings, we trust our instincts and take the sketch a step further and render it digitally. Before the hands-on drawing and sketching, we usually spend quite a bit of time developing the colour palette.
How do you work with Responsible Design Choices? The process of enhancing the quality of our products has to do with making responsible choices when working with design and materials. And suppliers.
BEHIND THE BRAND
We take our responsibility as a design company seriously and work strategically with improving our approach to a more conscientious way of conducting the design process as part of our Hübsch Care Programme. Last year, we were FSCTM-certified, which means that we no longer produce products from non-certified wood. We also focus on using only harmless textiles when creating our home textiles. To this day, most of our home textiles hold the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® label.
Finding the perfect colour combinations is part of our DNA. You will see a backdrop of tertiary and secondary colours for this collection with splashes of indigo blue and bright red. They are clashing hues, but when they exist in harmony, they bring forth a visual intrigue and a contrasting feature that is so pleasing to the eye. Those colours complement each other, especially when paired with natural materials such as pale timbers and bamboo.
Experimenting and exploring are not limited to the design process only. We are always open to new suppliers who can help us improve with their knowhow—both when it comes to responsible manufacturing and introducing new materials to our collections. Our core group of loyal suppliers, who have been with us for years, also play a big part in moving forward as a design company. They always help us stay on task and optimise their production process to our benefit.
For this collection, we specifically wanted to underpin the very essence of our brand DNA. It has an eclectic feel and quality, combining a playful approach to material and colour combinations with a distinct sense of aesthetics. The collection encapsulates a concise but airy narrative, bold colour choices, play with graphic lines, shapes, and textures. In short: Contrasting Silhouettes.
So, on a final note, making responsible choices and ’experiment and explore’ is truly at the very core of what we do.
