Lineage: Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Like a BMW 3-Series, Lexus IS and Volvo 40 Series, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class irmly belongs in the daily trafic around Namibian towns. We give you a brief lineage (model history) of this accomplished German sedan.

1982-1993 W201 - 190E “Baby Benz”

• First “ compact” Mercedes to rival the BMW 3-Series. • Never oficially sold here until the early 1990' s. • Some 16V models were fully imported in the 80' s. • Range from 190 1.8 to 190E 2.5-16V

1993-2000 W202: 1st official “C Class”

• The irst model to be built in S.A., C180 to C280. • The irst W202 in Namibia went to Frank Fredericks. • Introduced trim lines – Classic or Elegance (locally). • Also available as a station wagon (S203).

2000-2007 W203: second generation

• The second C-Class to be built in South Africa... ...and exported to other markets. • Also available as a station wagon (S204). • Range from C180 to C55 AMG.

2007-2014 W204 - third generation

• Also built in S.A., with 100,000+ LHD exports to the U.S.A. • Available as a coupe(C204) or estate / station wagon (S204). • Range from C180 K / CGI to C63 AMG.

2014-2021 W205 - previous generation

• Certain W205 models were also built in S.A. • The W205 range included estate and coupemodels. • Highlights included mild hybrids, all-wheel drive... ... and two AMG models: C43 (V6T) or C63 (V8T).

2021/2022 W206 - current generation

• As before, some models are assembled in S.A. • Increased active information, safety and driver aids. • Down-sized engines, no more six or eight cylinders. • Range from C200 to C63 AMG.
