THE HOLIDAY TRIP CHECKLIST

You may have remembered the parrot food, certified copies of important documents and the padkos... but did you check the holiday car?

BASICS DOCUMENTS

Right, the first things you want to make sure of is that your vehicle is roadworthy. Tyres, lights, brakes, suspension, etc. - are they all working as intended? Next would be a major check on the drive train to see if the fluids and functions are all correct. If you see bad leaks, hear untoward noises or one of the systems isn ’t working correctly, it may be wise to have the car serviced before your big trip. SPARE TYRE AND TOOL KIT

Don ’t forget about the spare wheel: make sure that it’ s properly inflated and not from 1998 - which can have some nasty consequences if you have a papwiel... While you ’ re there, check that the tool kit and jack are complete. Did you remember to renew the car ’ s license recently? And what about your own driver ’ s license? If you ’ re traveling across borders, be sure to have copies of the vehicle registration, license and insurance documents. SPARES

OK, so this isn ’t always possible because most holiday trips include a lot of luggage, sports or leisure equipment, and the odd mother in law! But we at NamWheels are confident that you can find a small place (near the spare?) for tiny things like extra fuses, light bulbs, zip ties, lubricating fluid and a compact multi-tool? If you ’ re blessed with abundant space or you ’ re headed for an extremely remote destination, best carry some bigger spares like tyres, tools, filters, belts, jumper cables and a tow rope.

CHECK LIST:

• Test all lights & indicators • Check the brakes for wear • Make sure the suspension isn ’t worn (or leaking) • Check engine oil level • Check coolant level • Check brake fluid and... ...gearbox oil, if applicable ...ditto for power steering • Top up windscreen washer • If anything seems wrong, rather visit a workshop • Check pressure (and age) of the spare wheel • Make sure the tool kit is complete and the jack is in working condition • Check / pack a first aid kit • Bring any documents (or copies) for your trip • Pack a few spare parts and tools, if there ’ s space
