3.6 flat six Legacy

Did someone say wing?

SUBARU'S Legacy returns Subaru Southern Africa has announced the introduction of a potent new 3.6-litre version of the nameplate that moved the brand onto the world stage. The 191kW / 350Nm Subaru Legacy 3.6R, a new flagship for the brand, will be in showrooms by the middle of March 2015. Buyers can look forward to a generous level of equipment and luxury features, in line with the brand's philosophy of providing a full-house offering. Everything needed for effortless, brisk cruising is fitted as standard. Key to this is the combination of a

six-cylinder Boxer engine and the ongoing evolution of the Symmetrical All Wheel Drive platform.

FORD launches new Focus RS Would you like some more wing with that?

HONDA Civic Type R finally revealed

For the BF4 generation of its Legacy, Subaru has focused on adding emotional appeal and refinement, fusing it with functional attributes such as quality, ruggedness, reliability and engineeringdriven design - all of which are Legacy traits.

After a five year wait, 2015 sees the arrival of the world's most keenly anticipated hot hatch, the Honda Civic Type R. Billed as a 'race car for the road', the all-new Civic Type R will set new standards in the high-performance frontwheel drive segment.

The new Subaru Legacy 3.6R is expected to be priced at approximately N$530,000 including a 3-year / 75,000 full maintenance plan.

The production version of Honda's latest hot hatch icon was revealed for the first time at the 85th Geneva Motor Show in March 2015.

All Type R vehicles have garnered a cult following around the world and the new model more than lives up to the high expectations. A world-first application of Honda's new 2.0 litre VTEC TURBO engine, aggressive function-led styling, and pioneering new chassis technologies combine to deliver one of the most immersive and rewarding driving experiences in any sector.

The all-new, direct-injected turbo-charged turbo-petrol engine delivers power, torque and performance figures unmatched in this segment. Peak power output is 310hp at 6,500rpm, and peak torque is 400Nm at 2,500 rpm - both higher than for any previous Honda Type R. Red-line is 7,000 rpm. 0-100km/h in 5.7 seconds and 270km/h top speed are class-leading for a frontwheel drive hatchback.

GENEVA MOTOR SHOW PERFORMANCE DEBUTANTS

Just when Honda thought it had this fight in the bag (see middle column), Ford sticks a hot poker in their side. The blue oval’s all-new Focus RS also made its global public debut at the Geneva Motor Show. This high-performance road car pioneers the innovative Ford Performance A llWheel-Drive system, and thus delivers class-leading cornering speed, thrilling performance and unbridled driving enjoyment. The all-new Ford Focus RS also introduces advanced performance technologies, and is the first Ford RS equipped with selectable Drive Modes – including an industry-first Drift Mode – and Launch Control.

With a 2.3-litre EcoBoost engine delivering in excess of 320 horsepower, the highperformance road car offers the most powerful Ford RS braking system ever. Its exterior design offers optimised aerodynamics and cooling, with zero lift and 9 per cent less drag than the previous model. The all-new Focus RS uses Dynamic Torque Vectoring, enabling it to deliver new levels of handling capability and driver enjoyment, as well as outstanding traction and grip with unmatched agility and cornering speed. The 30th car to wear RS badges, it will be built in Saarlouis, Germany, for markets all over the world.

The new Hilux Dakar dust not included

TOYOTA Hilux Dakar Edition So this Hilux is the odd one out because it didn't debut at Geneva, has no discernible wing(s) and is neither fast nor furious. It is, however, absolutely legendary (as confirmed by the recent Legend 45 edition we test in this issue), more affordable, very dependable, extremely popular and borderline indestructible. In order to celebrate yet another monumental Hilux achievement - its success in the 2015 Dakar Rally Toyota recently launched a new special edition in the shape of the Hilux Dakar. It's a fitting tribute to the rallying prowess of Giniel de Villiers and Dirk von Zitzewitz who pulled off a class win (T1 Petrol) and an overall second place on the podium at the 2015 Dakar in the Toyota Imperial Hilux.

In keeping with its flagship status, the new Hilux Dakar builds on the impressive Legend 45 package, boasting additional aesthetic and cabin enhancements for that special look.

The base model has power steering, ABS, four airbags, ISOFIX mountings, central locking, daytime running lights, immobilizer, folding rear bench, trip meter, airconditioning, full-size spare wheel, adjustable driver’s seat and steering wheel.

CO2 output is just 108g/km. And just for the record, an up! is 3,54m long, 1,49m high, 1,64m wide and has 144mm of ground clearance.

Move up! tops all of that with power windows and mirrors, a sound system, more seats adjustments and a split-folding rear bench, shiny interior trim and some extra outside colour coding, vanity mirrors, rev counter, optional "Waffle" 15-inch alloy wheels and an optional pearl black dashboard.

Take up! is about N$135,000 and Move up! N$140,000; slightly less than a base Vivo.

i20

Headin Hyundai se nuwe i20 is soos 'n splinternuwe Sikspens!

Finale indruk? Kraakvars!

Corsa Opel's new

Somewhere in my dusty memory is a purple little Corsa...

Thus I’m pretty sure that somewhere in your memory banks, you may also have an Opel Corsa lurking about. My favourite recollection is a vibrant purple two-door Corsa driven by an equally vibrant girl named Karin.

1980's to mid-nineties. Fast forward a few models and this is the brandnew “Corsa E”, some three models and roughly 150,000 sales down the line from Karin’s purple jobby. Completely redesigned from grille to tail pipe, gen five Corsa features hightech drive trains, exciting features, wrapped up in approachable German engineering. So much for the car's marketing blurb. More than 110,000 orders and three car-of-the-year titles in Europe underline its new qualities.

Although we initially mocked her for this automotive choice and hue, Karin’s German runabout ferried a lot of people about so it eventually earned quite a bit of respect; and a nickname unfit for publication.

Sculptured design with cool LED highlights and a quality, functional interior are a slightly more grown-up formula than that of Opel’s recent new-born – the Adam.

That car was a first generation Opel Corsa, although technically it was a "B" model. Southern Africa never got Corsa A (far right in the top photo) which lived elsewhere from the early

Only available with two doors, Adam plays a different game by offering lots and lots of individualization options for trendy buyers to build their very own fashion accessory on alloys.

One inheritance from baby brother Adam is the Corsa’s flagship engine – a 1-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol worth 85kW or 170Nm.

actively prevent most high-speed instability or shine both Bi-Xenon headlights around corners; among other party tricks.

high-rev excursions or a constant shove of torque to overtake safely in every driving scenario except sixth gear / high speed antics.

Available with a newly-developed six-speed manual gearbox and three escalating specifications (Essentia, Enjoy and Cosmo), average fuel use is claimed around 5L/100km.

Check availability with your nearest Opel dealership.

The new touch-screen multimedia system is instinctive, all switchgear is intuitively placed and the Corsa's instrument trip computer provides plenty of vehicle info.

Opel / GM’s trusty 1.4-litre naturallyaspirated engine is also available in Enjoy trim for serial commuters and purveyors of fine automatic gearboxes. Specification highlights include up to six airbags and multiple driver aids for a five-star crash test rating, as well as multi-mode electric power steering and various optional extras. Tick all the boxes and your Corsa could even park itself, detect other vehicles in your blind spot(s), keep a watchful eye on all tyre pressures,

Pricing for Corsa starts at N$185,500 (Essentia 1.0T), over N$216,200 (Enjoy 1.0T) and N$216,500 (Enjoy 1.4 Auto) to N$236,300 for the topspec Corsa Cosmo 1.0T. Considering the ample standard kit and new turbo-petrol motor, Opel's brand-new Corsa can easily walk into a staring contest with most of its direct competitors. We drove only 1.0T models at the car’s recent launch and found every model to provide a pleasing mix of performance and comfort. The new motor idles smoothly and provides a linear punch of power for

Low-speed manoeuvrability and allround visibility of this car are just as commendable as its high-speed stability and braking ability. For your peace of mind, Opel sells each new Corsa with a five-year 120,000km warranty and three-year 60,000km service plan so you may go forth and make happy memories with your new German hatchback. Unfortunately for my friend Karin, the new Opel Corsa is currently not available with two doors or a coat of vibrant purple paint.

Text Dr Hans Heese Images Mitsubishi Motors South Africa

Teoreties sal ‘n reikwydte van so veel as 800km tussen vulstasies moontlik wees. Versieningstussenpouses is elke 15,000km.

Germans. They don't just rule on the football pitch but also enjoy picking a good fight on the Autobahn.

Text Hanjo Stier Images Audi South Africa

Often accused of having started the horsepower wars, all three major German luxury brands have become experts at building very, very naughty cars. And showing that they’ve also got a sense of humour is the RS Q3. Stuffing the foamy-mouthed engine of a TT RS into a small soft-roader may seem silly but it’s the resulting performance which is downright hilarious. Audi’s done extremely well to disguise this car’s mad potential so that people who enjoy scaring hot hatches at traffic lights will have even more to laugh about. Although our press car was coated in the beautiful Sepang Blue metallic, you may order it in white or silver for maximum stealth effect. The RS Q3 has deeper bumpers with silver air intakes at the front and there’s a

diffuser look at the back with a single, large, oval exhaust pipe. How sneaky is that?

Much like on the exterior, Audi employed understatement in dressing the RS Q3’s innards.

Standard wheel size is 18 inches but our blue monster rode on optional, 10-spoke, 19-inch alloys of the striking and jolly expensive variety. 20-inch metal is also available. This car had very few other optional extras but the standard specifications list of an Audi RS Q3 is extremely comprehensive and impressive.

There are subtle badges hidden in various places like the flat bottom of the steering wheel and the grey-faced instruments which include a superb trip computer and some ridiculously illegal speedometer markings.

Its cabin is every bit as stylish and solid as one expects of a modern Ingolstadt product. The sporty seats are at least as comfy as they are supportive but tall drivers may bemoan downward adjustment and head room.

Included in the base price of N$759,000 is the intuitive Audi MMI navigation and multimedia system as well as a 10-speaker sound system. You also get a full deck of safety systems and quite a few driver aids with only active lights, clever mirrors, active lane keeping and parking assistance living on the options list.

The rear cargo area can extend to a handy 1.6m length for that ultimate urban accessory – your mountain bike.

Enough of all that though, the most important bit slumbers sideways under this Q3’s metal: a 2.5L five-cylinder turbo-petrol

reaching maximums of 228kW (310hp) or 420Nm. Audi claims averages of 206g CO2/km and 8.8L/100km from the 64L tank but I frequently saw 12L/100km or more with mixed driving. Considering its fire power, that didn’t bother me even slightly. The RS Q3 is extremely refined and light to pilot in everyday traffic with only the faintest offbeat exhaust burble. Handling is pin-sharp and damping on the hard side but still acceptable for the performance enthusiasts this car appeals to. Should you wish to poke it with a stick, simply select Sport mode from the Audi Drive Select and S-tronic dual-clutch automatic transmission. This sharpens up throttle and steering response while Quattro all-wheel-drive will help to put

full power down – Audi claims 5.5 seconds to 100km/h and a 250km/h top speed. After pressing more buttons, the RS Q3’s launch control helped us to record (a GPS-verified) 4.89 seconds to 100km/h and 400m time of 13.42 seconds. That’s properly quick; and those power reserves are just as useful on your daily commute, be it low-end torque forays or midrange overtaking moves. We even took this car through some muddy hinterland – which it crossed without fuss – but its forte is eating tarmac as fast as you dare. The crazy SUV may be expensive and relatively thirsty but the Audi RS Q3 has a great sense of humour – it dishes up more smiles per mile than most.

IMPAIRS One of the biggest dangers on our roads are drunken drivers.

Piloting a motor vehicle takes more than just experience; and alcohol plays a major role in decreasing a driver's common sense and reflexes - two things absolutely vital to reaching your destination safely. Unfortunately, drunk drivers often tear innocent souls into their selfish blunders - other motorists, pedestrians, bikers and passengers who pay for someone else's mistake dearly sometimes with their lives.

your driving Recent statistics suggest that half the legal limit doubles your chances of crashing, while the full limit triples those odds. So the message here is clear - get behind the wheel drunk and you could end up in serious trouble. Never mind explaining any lone collisions to your insurance, once another party is involved and you're over the limit, your life will quickly turn into a bad dream. Heaven Forbid someone is injured or killed - for then your existence becomes a fullblown nightmare. "Papa wag vir jou" is not so funny, is it?

Alcohol severely impairs your vision, alertness and reaction times, often replacing them with excessive exuberance and misplaced courage. Should you really want to party it up, make arrangements to get home safely with a taxi, shuttle or sober friend. There is no shame in asking for help, nor is it boring or stupid to be the designated driver for your friend(s) once in a while. Quite the opposite actually - you might be saving their and other people's lives.

NX200t

Lexus

Lexus has a new compact SUV - did we really need another one?

Text Hanjo Stier Images Galimoto Media

Competition is healthy. There’s nothing like feeling the warm breath of rivals on the back of your neck to drive excellence and innovation. Although our market is pretty much sorted for luxury compact SUV’s, Lexus just decided to give all other makers a wake-up call with their new NX range. For those of you who don’t study Lexus brochures in your spare time, “X” denotes all-terrain vehicles of which the luxury Japanese brand had two so far: the suave RX and massive LX based on a Toyota Land-Cruiser. This new NX follows a similar route by being loosely based on the Toyota RAV4. Had I not mentioned this, you may not even have noticed the slight resemblance. And in my humble opinion it is just that – slight. Lexus didn't just drape their trademark sharp lines over a RAV; this car has amazing angles and aggressive shapes to make up its unique shape. Job well done. Its interior is even bolder and certainly lifted a few levels above

its parent company’s products. My OCD can’t handle most new Lexus cabins but this one gets a hearty slow-clap from me. The pinched dashboard mirrors the car’s pointed spindle grill with delicious layers, shapes and materials . Machined dials, cool white needles and a high-resolution multi-mode display make up the instruments while a lovingly crafted analogue clock sinks into the middle of the climate controls. A 7-inch VGA monitor protrudes bolt-upright from the dashboard to display infotainment and vehicle settings. Its main controls lie on the central tunnel between the front seats and offer, among pre-set buttons, a touch-pad for piloting the car’s user interface. Intuitive controls on the adjustable steering wheel offer more convenience and the chance to pit your accent against the Lexus voice command system. Seat comfort is excellent and Lexus has nailed that elevated car feeling so many SUV drivers crave. Rear passenger space is very decent and

the seat backs tilt a few degrees for extra comfort; or fold flat to extend the boot space. Under its carpeted floor, the NX features extra storage and an emergency spare wheel. Although also available as an NX300h petrol hybrid, the NX offers three 200t models with escalating specifications (E, EX and F-Sport). Lexus being Lexus, even the base car has impressive features like pleather trim, cruise control, keyless entry, LED lights, Bluetooth as well as many powered and automatic goodies. Our EX test car topped that with park sensors and rear camera, a bigger audio system, auto wipers, seat heating and clever rear-view mirror. All NX’s feature 7 airbags, a full vehicle stability system with selectable hill hold and traction control, gear shift paddles and a three-way drive mode setup. Eco, Normal and Sport adjust the response of a brand-new 2-litre four cylinder turbo-petrol engine, which is sent to the front wheels via a 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Thanks to AI Shift Control, Dynamic Torque Control and an electronic front differential, it can send up to 50% to the rear wheels. Lexus can be jolly proud of their new motor with peak outputs of 175kW (238hp) or 350Nm thanks to direct fuel injection, twin-scroll turbo, square bore and stroke, integrated manifold and other innovations. Power delivery is linear but, when irritated, can lead to a smidgen of torque steer. The NX200t’s traction and stability control cuts in with precision but only if you really over-drive it. Keep below this threshold and the new Lexus offers sporty response and good grip levels. Combined with the aforementioned car-like seating position, Mum or Dad can enjoy a spirited drive home from school. Keep it pinned in a straight line and it will hit 100km/h in 7.1 seconds (ours did 7.35), topping out at 200km/h. Claimed average fuel consumption from the 60L tank is 7.9L/100km, although our average

hovered around 11 a lot. We think 7.9 is a little optimistic but with a bit of care, nine should be doable. First on a non-hybrid Lexus, the NX200t has a selectable start/stop system and various eco displays to encourage economical driving. We found the system to be reasonably gentle and intelligent as it educates you on its ideal operation; like pressing the brake pedal further down to call up its services. Most modern vehicles have such features yet the new NX200t impressed us on every level. The distinctive styling and many fine details of this car – like its L-shape LED light bars, futuristic-looking door mirrors and handles – means it can actually cash the cheques that its superlative-rich marketing brochure is writing. EX prices start at N$579,900 with a 4-year / 100,000km service plan and warranty. The superb Lexus customer service is another plus for a vehicle which doesn’t re-write the rule book but should have the competition seriously worried.

Mercedes-Benz

C200

"When last did you, dear reader, get really excited about driving anywhere?"

Text Claire Maasch Main Images Mercedes-Benz South Africa

Motoring journalists are a privileged bunch. Many of them don't realise it, some can't appreciate the fact but imagine this scenario: Every week a new car, a full tank of fuel, your pick of multiple brands (within reason) and everything handed to you on a plate, in exchange for a few hundred opinionated words in a publication that is hoped to sway public opinion and convince Joe Bloggs to buy a certain car, or not. In the beginning, when I first started to write for this publication, each and every vehicle was exciting, a thrill of anticipation awaited each new arrival and story angles were carefully thought out, planned and written down. After a while though, you find yourself running out of ideas, writer's block creeps in and you feel jaded‌ just how much enthusiasm and vocabulary can be spent on facelifts, headlights, wheel arches, performance, design and ride comfort? I found myself in dire need of a muse.

Luckily, it arrived as this unprecedented surprise in my driveway the other day. Expecting something small and city-like, a Chevy Sonic or some such, I instead took delivery of Merc's new C200. My initial reaction was one of scepticism - this is after all a 2014 Car of the Year finalist. The first few outings were a bit uninspiring - a massive amount of hype around what appears at a first glance to be a miniature S-class wannabe which feels a bit flat on town driving errands. Then I took it on the open road... When last did you, dear reader, get really excited about driving anywhere? Where each journey in your car is one to be savoured, where you wish you'd never reach your destination, that the road you're on will never run out because the here and now of driving in your car is the most perfect place to be? Because where you are right now is your ultimate happy place and you never want to leave?

That's what this C200 did to me - I've called it the muse effect. The car inspired me to write this ode to driving. I found myself taking the longer routes home, finding diversions so that I wouldn't have to reach my destination and wishing fervently that I could continue to live in this car beyond the brief week that we were acquainted. The C200's road holding is superb, it corners like a feather and turns in at the slightest touch, but without that removed feeling you experience with quite a few of today's luxury vehicles. I took this lady through the exquisite Cape passes on a weekend morning drive and pretty much had this review written in full in my mind by the time I was done! This executive saloon will get you to your destination, be it a board meeting, a social event or a long journey, in style and comfort (mostly provided you leave off the

AMG sport pack which our test car came with - it makes the ride too hard) and a longing to take the wheel once more and go places just for the sheer drive of it. With me waxing eloquently about the driveability of the C200, I could easily forego the nitty-gritty and fail to provide highlights in the specifications of our test car. As a whole, the C200 is a pleasing package and I'd be negligent if I didn't mention a few things that impressed me. To start, our test car came with the optional 13 speaker Burmester sound system, complete with Front Bass which uses part of the footwell on the driver's side to provide additional bass and surround sound effect. This C-class is only the third in a series of Benz's to make use of this awesome sound technology, its predecessors being the SL and new S-Class. As a huge fan of good music and quality sound while driving, I was in 7th heaven

with this N$10,000 optional package and would highly recommend it to any new CClass owner; to add to their driving pleasure. Other optional extras (out of many) worth mentioning are the Intelligent LED lights (N$20,200) which provided endless entertainment with night driving; and the headsup display (N$15,000). The former isn't essential but for anyone who enjoys night driving as much as I do, I can honestly recommend the optional light system. It is incredibly intuitive, from automatic high beam to cornering lights and the very clever cut-out functionality that provided me with a few hours of entertainment on open country roads as I tested its effects - it works beautifully! Normally, I'm frustrated by the automatic high beam assistants of most cars as there's a noticeable delay, however the response from these was prompt and with

that phenomenal cut-out functionality, I didn't blind any drivers. Interior and cabin comfort of the new C200 is exceptional, from the moulded seats to the aluminium inserts and finishes. Possibly a bit brash for my idea of Merc, but still a striking appearance. As mentioned before, our test vehicle came with the optional AMG sport pack with its massive wheels, low profile tyres and firmer suspension. While this gives the sedan a fantastic sporty appearance, you do sacrifice ride comfort for looks. It's your choice. As a car of the year finalist for 2014, this C200 definitely had my vote and it would've be awesome if the Guild jury decided on a car truly worthy of the title and picked this much-loved executive icon. In my humble opinion, it's very deserving of the title. The Mercedes-Benz C200 is priced from N$463,000.

VEHICLE MAINTENANCE

Why your car needs a regular

SERVICE No matter the age, size or brand of your motor car, it is essential that you have it regularly serviced by qualified technicians. Older vehicles tend to be simpler and allow skilled individuals to perform most maintenance tasks themselves, but especially ageing vehicles need rigorous servicing. Namibia's vast distances mean high mileage for most automobiles and the recommended service intervals are quickly reached. We do know of a few cars which cover very small distances and in this case it is advisable to service them every one to two years. In either case, consult your dealership's workshop to see how often your pride and joy needs attention. The advantages of why you should have your car regularly serviced can be summed up as follows:

• Safety: You, your passengers and other road users are safer if your car is operating at its best. • Prevention: A regularly-serviced vehicle is less likely to suffer breakdowns and cost you big bucks! • Value: Should you wish to sell your car, a full service history is worth its weight in gold. • Efficiency: If its oily bits get regular attention, a car performs at its optimum levels and has better fuel consumption. • Warranty: Failing to bring your car for its scheduled maintenance may lead to its warranty being cancelled! • Longevity: Well-maintained cars last much longer and a workshop may discover hidden problems before they arise.

Jimny Suzuki

Hahaha you may think, what a silly little car. Think again.

Text Hanjo Stier Images Suzuki Windhoek & Suzuki Auto South Africa

Most automobiles, even small ones, improve with every generation and cater for society's demands of comfort and safety features. I typed “most” because you do get a few which never got that memo – one of them is the Suzuki Jimny (not Jimmy). Although it's slightly more modern, luxurious and safe than its SJ predecessors, the Jimny is a rather basic and old product when compared to other cars. It may not be very refined but I absolutely adore cars like this and assure you that even the mention of its name gets me smiling. Equally funny is the fact that this plucky critter gathers the same attention as massive SUV’s; admiration, jealous insults or disgust. Here are some favourite Jimny taunts for your entertainment… No, I don’t know where the rest of it is. Yes, the lights work and it can stay up after 8pm. No, it can’t fold up and fit in your pocket or handbag.

While the Terios, RAV-4 and other compact SUV's were munching their oats and Dyna Jets, the Jimny matured with an airbag or two and some central locking. Trying desperately to be cool, our test car rocked up with mag wheels and darkened headlights but I still walked around it (very quickly) with a hearty laugh. The Jimny is probably smaller than you imagine it to be right now. A recent update has given it some new headrests, ISOFIX anchors, a restyled front end and an overambitious, rather fake hood scoop. Auto wipers, DVD navigation, dual zone climate control and self-venting Xenon dampers? Who needs 'em when you have solid axles, manual seats and an interior from 1989. Compared to the model we tested a few years ago, I'm struggling to find noteworthy points of improvement.

I firmly believe that this is part of the Jimny's immense popularity and explains why it appeals to a broad slice of the public – it's small enough to be a breeze in tight parking lots, simple enough not to intimidate anyone and light enough to provide excellent off-roading abilities. You read right; excellent offroading abilities. The Jimny would be a laughable toy for orange girls on some tropical island but it has selectable four-wheel-drive, good wheel articulation and low range gears. Coupled to its sturdy ladder chassis, robust axles and negligible mass, it really takes some effort to get this little number stuck. On top of that, should your little Suzuki suddenly be grounded or bogged down, simply recruit two or three ouens of the muscular variety and in no time you should be zipping around again and kicking dirt in unexpectant faces.

We dragged our Jimny into a mild off-road area and it sailed through it with ease – often in high range. These decent bundu bashing capabilities have even given rise to fan communities all around the country and some specimens are pimped up with bigger wheels, bull bars, raised suspension, camping equipment and the like. Some owners also address its power deficit by giving the little 1.3L engine a once-over. This cheeky little 1,328cc inline four-cylinder petrol develops maximums of 63kW (86hp) or 110Nm through a five-speed manual gearbox to reach an alleged top speed of 140km/h. We not only found the Jimny speedometer to be quite accurate but, with a little patience, capable of cracking that number. Our best 0-100km/h sprint time was just over twelve seconds; which is completely irrelevant. You shouldn't even

consider this car if you're a speed freak. Its top-heavy and ancient construction means that the Jimny doesn't like hard cornering, jiggles about considerably at high speeds, hates strong winds and any sort of high speed overtaking manoeuvres. Its gearbox is rather vague but paired with a pleasingly light clutch which is easy to modulate in traffic or offroad. The Jimny also has, as promised by its custodians, the turning radius of a forklift. Add the incredibly compact body to this equation and this is the world's second best car to park; just behind a Smart ForTwo.

Without its spare wheel on the rear door, the Jimny is shorter than most compact cars on the road. Standard spec includes all basic necessities like remotecontrolled central locking, power steering, electrically operated windows and side mirrors, air conditioning, two airbags, ABS brakes, alloy wheels, fog lights, four cup holders, immobiliser, 50/50 folding rear seats and a radio/CD player . Starting at N$223,400, each Jimny comes with a 3-year / 100,000km warranty and 4year / 60,000km service plan, the new Automatic version costing N$238,500.

You want some dimensions? 1,090kg dry weight, 360kg payload, 1.67m height, 3.55m length, 1.6m width, 2.25m wheelbase, 40L petrol tank, 190mm ground clearance, 34° approach angle, 31° ramp angle and a 46° departure angle.

Ouch bru, I hear you think, that's a lot of money for such a small car. You're absolutely right but the Jimny is easy to drive, a pleasure to park, fun to own and excellent off-road. This makes it a tough little bargain.
