Our more eagle-eyed readers may have spotted that NamWheels has distinct gaps between its last few editions. Why is that, I hear you ask? Besides the odd logistical issue, the chief culprit is an ailing car industry. Apr / May 2016

For us at NamWheels, that means our publication has to offer more value and better content. They say that adversity breeds innovation.
“They say that adversity breeds innovation.”
This means that consumer spending is down and as a knee-jerk reaction, most dealers quickly cut back on their advertising spend. It’s only natural because it represents a big and fairly instant saving.
That is why we are even more determined to make a difference in the local auto industry and Namibia as a whole. Now more than ever.
Digital issues are just part of our plans... Hanjo Stier Editor

NEWS & NEW MODELS JAGUAR LAND ROVER breaks 600,000 barrier
JEEP introduces 707hp Grand Cherokee
HYUNDAI driven across Antarctica
ISUZU celebrates various NISSAN GT-R is S.A.’s milestones this year best-selling supercar
Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, manufacturers of Jeep brand vehicles is proud to announce the reveal of the most powerful SUV from the Jeep brand, the all-new 2018 Jeep® Grand Cherokee Trackhawk. Injected with an unmatched 520kW (707hp) courtesy of an awe-inspiring supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine, the most awarded SUV ever and the most capable full-size SUV on the planet has been transformed into the most powerful and quickest SUV ever. At this point, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is still under consideration for the Southern African market...
Hyundai made history when a near-standard 2.2-litre diesel Santa Fe became the very first passenger vehicle to be driven across Antarctica from Union Camp to McMurdo and back again. The Santa Fe was driven by Patrick Bergel, the great grandson of legendary polar explorer, Sir Ernest Shackleton. The journey, which took place in December 2016, was timed to commemorate the centenary of Shackleton's heroic TransAntarctic expedition of 1914 to 1916, and has been made into a short film by Hyundai which was shown for the first time at an event on 20 April at the Hospital Club, London.
2017 is a year of celebrations for Isuzu Motors Limited of Japan as it commemorates the establishment of the company in April 1937. Locally, Isuzu celebrated with its valued customers at Isuzu dealers across South Africa on Saturday 22 April. "Isuzu National Dealer Day" saw customers and fans of the brand descend on participating Isuzu dealers all over South Africa. “Engineered in South Africa, the Isuzu KB continues to set new standards of durability, balanced design and meticulous attention to detail," says Mlungisi Nonkonyana, Isuzu Brand Manager.
The Nissan GT-R looks set to keep its title as South Africa's best-selling supercar, after sales for the new MY17 model got off to a flying start. The first consignment of 2017 GT-Rs was sold well before it landed. To date over 500 GT-Rs have been sold in S.A., making it the most popular supercar. “We often quip that the GT-R defies the laws of the vehicle market in much the same way as it defies the laws of physics,” says Hugo Richards, General Manager at BB Motor Group. Richards and his team sold their first consignment of eight GT-Rs at BB GT-R Hatfield as soon as the new vehicle was launched.
Jaguar Land Rover is the UK's largest manufacturer of premium luxury vehicles and just reported record retail sales of 604,009 vehicles (including sales from the Chinese joint venture) in the 2016/17 financial year, up 16% compared to last year, exceeding 600,000 for the first time in the company's history.
FORD updates Everest and Ranger models Ford Motor Company of South Africa recently announced that their Ranger XLT and Wildtrak vehicles now feature SYNC®3, Ford’s infotaintment system (with Navigation) as standard, as well as a rear camera and PDC on the XLS models. Furthermore, the Everest SUV also receives the SYNC® 3 with Navigation added on all XLT and Limited models. All Ranger and Everest 4x2 and 4x4 models also have enhanced capability with fitment of difflock as standard.
MERCEDES-BENZ reveals updated S-Class The new S-Class celebrated its world premiè re with extensive innovations at the 2017 Auto Shanghai in late April. Among the highlights is an allnew and highly efficient engine range with new technologies for powertrain electrification. Intelligent Drive takes another big step towards autonomous driving while the undisputed leader in the premium segment with regard to comfort and wellness sets new standards in the interior.
New engines coming to the new S-Class are in-line six cylinders as diesel and petrol as well as a new V8 biturbo petrol. In addition, Mercedes-Benz plans a plug-in hybrid with a range of about 50km. At the same time, new technologies such as the 48-volt Integrated Starter Alternator and the new electric booster (compressor) celebrate their world premiè re. The market launch of the new SClass starts in the European markets in July.
SUZUKI powers Team Tane through Africa The married couple Tarryn and Shane Quinnell are the intrepid adventurers in “Team Tane”, an outfit created to inspire mindful travel and living. In 2014, Team Tane ventured to Mount Kenya to raise funds for the leadership development charity, GOLD. This year, the duo will take their 2011 Suzuki Jimny, called Badger, on an
adventure called Africa Sky High, and Suzuki South Africa has taken the naming rights to the 8-month long adventure. The Suzuki Africa Sky High adventure will see Team Tane travel through South Africa, Botswana, Zambia, Tanzania, R wa n d a , U g a n d a , Ke nya , Malawi, Angola and Namibia – often on less travelled roads.

Amarok V6

H Drie-liter Amarok: Kleinboet kry ‘n Grootboet!
Hoe lyk hierdie syfers?

AFRIKAANS VIDEO REVIEW The mushrooming SUV market worldwide and in southern Africa has seen more and more competitors pop up for a piece of the action.
What’s next, Ferrari? Speaking of its rivals, some of them failed dismally at plastering their brand design on a large SUV shape.

However; prices hover around six figures as this new Jaguar is fully imported from the U.K. and at the mercy of our pathetic exchange rate. That means the F-Pace is priced far beyond its natural rivals of the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Mercedes GLC, instead landing in the middle of their bigger brothers Q7, X5 and GLE. To my utter surprise, it almost matched those for dimensions, specs and power. Plus it's more beautiful and exclusive than any of the above.

My immediate answer usually involves demo or used examples of a better car because they tend to offer superior value to some cheapie straight out of the box.
Much like other cars made in India, they skimped on some of the good stuff to keep its price down.
The new Renault Kwid is a prime example of a cheapie. After driving one recently, I’d still choose to get a preowned Vivo or Figo for the same price. Who cares if someone farted in the seat before you, there’s more value for money. But if you want a new Kwid, here are a few pointers… Started in conjunction with Nissan, the Kwid is made and built in India. That means it has got
