PEUGEOT gets the lion’s share

LEXUS unveils spider-web seat

A "Golden Steering Wheel" winner, "Most Sensible Car" and ultimately "Car of the Year 2016" - since its premiere last year, the new Opel Astra has been winning over experts and the public alike. But not only them: customers love the youngest generation of the compact class success story. To date, already more than 250,000 orders have been received across Europe for the Astra five-door and Sports Tourer variants.

From April this year, Toshiaki Konaka became president for Honda Motor Southern Africa. Joining the company in 1984, Toshiaki Konaka has held a number of senior automotive and sales roles including 16 years at Honda's European operations. Honda Motor Southern Africa operations director, Graham Eagle has been promoted to vice president and supports Konaka in the transition to the new position.

Peugeot continues its good form in the (South African) Kinsey Report which looks at vehicle parts pricing. The talented 208 once again played a starring role for the French brand as the popular B-segment hatch finished at the front of a tough field of superminis. The record showed that a basket of parts for a Peugeot 208 1.2 Active cost less than the same selection of parts for similar cars.

Lexus unveiled a new kinetic seat concept that showcases a raft of advanced features. Rotational movement of the seat cushion and its backrest simulates the fundamental spinal movements of human mobility to help stabilise the occupant's head. The innovative spider webpattern flexible net closely fits body shapes, dispersing the load for prolonged seat comfort and optimal body support.

The new Hyundai Tucson has won the 2016 (South African) Women on Wheels Car of the Year Award. Tucson took the top spot due to its affordability, practicality and overall value for money. Thousands of votes were cast and the eventual winners in 11 categories were chosen from 120 finalists (over and above the overall winners). The Range Rover Sport won the overall Reader's Choice Award.

Continuing the rollout of their SKYACTIV Technology, Mazda has just introduced SKYACTIV-Vehicle Dynamics. This forms a series of newgeneration vehicle motion control technologies which provide integrated control of the engine and transmission, chassis and body to enhance the vehicle's “Jinba-Ittai”; the sensation of connectedness between car and driver that distinguishes Mazda vehicles.

Mike Horn is currently on his “Pole2Pole” expedition to circumnavigate the world from Pole to Pole, across six continents, by alternating between boat, skis, kayak and the Mercedes-Benz G-Class. He first sailed from Monaco to Namibia, crossed the world’s oldest desert and passed through the Okavango delta in Botswana and then on to Cape Town, where he was born.

SUZUKI Super Carry beats the odds

VOLKSWAGEN helps to protect rhinos

NAMIBIA wins silver in Spirit of Amarok

The challenge - drive 750km with 750kg on R750 of fuel with a Suzuki Super Carry. #SuperCarry750 challenge was conceived when the team at Suzuki Auto South Africa decided to test their newest workhorse and help someone in need at the same time. A large load, including a few dishwashers and fresh paint, was driven to Hospice in Port Shepstone (KwaZulu-Natal) using only R750 of petrol. The Super Carry easily made its target (travelling another 156km before refueling) and achieved an average fuel use of just 6.7L/100km for the entire trip, most of it with a full load. Legendary stuff!

Six Volkswagen Amaroks are helping to protect rhinos in South Africa’s Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency. The staff focus on areas like law enforcement, ensuring that the infrastructure keeps poachers at bay. "Rhinos are crucial for our ecosystem and tourism as they form part of the Big 5. We’re proud that our vehicles are used to safeguard a most vulnerable wildlife species," Thomas Schaefer, Chairman and Managing Director of the Volkswagen Group S.A. The Amaroks are used in antipoaching initiatives like rhino notching and monitoring and also training of field rangers.

Te a m S . A . s u c c e s s f u l l y defended its International Spirit of Amarok Trophy. The competition took place north of Upington in the dunes and pans of the Kalahari. 14 teams from Australia, Botswana, Namibia, Russia and South Africa participated this year. The participants contested 30 stages over five days in Amarok Double Cabs. This year's competition also included night stages. Team South Africa amassed 4,890 points, followed by Namibia with 4,263 points. Australia and Botswana were third and fourth, with newcomer Russia ending fifth on 1,125 points.

KINGSLEY HOLGATE CONCOURSE South Living Traditions Africa a huge success

TOYOTA leads the sales charts again

Kingsley Holgate, his son Ross and a hardy team of modern-day explorers have returned from their first Living Traditions expedition. Over 66 days the legendary explorer and his support crew traversed 12 countries and improved over 38,000 lives, before reaching the South Omo region in Ethiopia. Ndhlovukasi – the Defender 130 that reached the Heart of Africa – lead two Discoverys, Phokot and Turkana, with some expedition members in land yachts and on mountain bikes. Kingsley crossed the Chew Bahir salt ocean as well as Northern Kenya’s Chalbi and Karoli deserts.

Toyota once again lead newvehicle sales in September 2016 with the ever-popular Hilux in the top spot. Achieving 3,063 sales, Hilux was 626 units ahead of its nearest segment rival, at the same time outselling South Africa’s leading entry-level hatchback by 241 units. This, together with laudable performances from Corolla / Quest (2,061), the Quantum (1,329), Fortuner (1,180), Etios (947) and Avanza (572) saw Toyota surge to the top of the leader board for the ninth consecutive month this year, recording a total of 10,837 sales across the Toyota, Lexus and Hino brands.

Held at Sun City in September, the inaugural Concours South Africa was an overwhelming success. The event drew close to fifty entries, an amazing array of diversity and high quality cars entered in six categories. The overall winner was a De Tomaso Pantera GT5, hailing from Botswana and owned by Fatima de Abreu, and lovingly restored by her husband Carlos. The De Abreus had a red-letter weekend, as their 1990 Ferrari Testarossa claimed second place overall, followed by the remarkably understated, mint-original Pontiac GTO owned by Basil Papagorgio.

FOTON Granite LEXUS CT200h receives funky details The stylish 1.8-litre Hybrid Lexus CT200h hatch receives an infusion of flair, with four new distinctive two-tone colour schemes to add a dash of visual drama. The bi-tone is created by combining high gloss black treatment on the roof and pillars, with a choice of four 'body colours' adorning the metal below the 'waistline'. The four body colour choices are Sonic Titanium, White

Quartz, Mercury Grey and Morello Red. Fans of Mono-tone are also catered for, with the addition of the aptly named “Amber”, a rich bronze tone replacing “Fire Agate”. Audiophiles will appreciate the new digital media holder in the centre console, which provides a secure portable music storage and an easy interface via the built-in USB, AUX and Bluetooth systems.

Foton South Africa, backed by Imperial Holdings, which markets light commercials, has now developed a special edition of its 4x2 Tunland Luxury double cab premium bakkie which has plenty of show. The Granite it has been fitted with black accessories that change the appearance significantly. Colour options are white and silver. BMW celebrates 30 years of M3 As a tribute to the first BMW M3, the anniversary edition "30 Years M3" is painted in exclusive Macao Blue, which once celebrated its premiere as a special option for the first generation of the M3. The edition "30 Years M3" builds on the Competition Package, which is optionally available for the BMW M3 series production model. It comprises a 14kW increase in engine output to 331kW.

The all-new Honda Civic is now available in Southern Africa, with dynamic styling and trend-setting levels of sophistication and high-tech features. The past nine generations have continuously evolved to meet worldwide customer needs, consistently setting the bar for efficiency, quality, performance as well as owner satisfaction. sold in excess of 23 million Civics to date. The new Civic was realised on three pillars, beginning with a charismatic design that offers depth of appeal supported by technology and performance. The all-new, 4th-generation of the KIA Rio made its world premiere in Paris at the 2016 Mondial de l'Automobile. Sporting a progressive new exterior and interior design, the Rio was revealed for the first time globally through an exclusive set of images. The distinctive, confident look of the new model was led by KIA's design centres in Germany and California, in close collaboration with the company's global design headquarters in Namyang.

The Mahindra XUV500 has been further enhanced with the addition of an automatic transmission. The advanced new six-speed gearbox will initially be available on the front-wheel W8 model. WESBANK Car of the Year 2017 finalists The S.A. Guild of Motoring Journalists (SAGMJ) is proud to announce their finalist vehicle ranges for the 2017 WesBank South African Car of the Year competition. Hosted by WesBank (the headline sponsor), the reveal follows a vote by 28 Jury members, elected by their peers, of an original list of 35 vehicle ranges.

The finalists for 2017 are (in alphabetical order): · AUDI A4 SEDAN · HONDA CIVIC · HYUNDAI TUCSON · JAGUAR F-PACE · MAZDA CX-3 · OPEL ASTRA · RENAULT KADJAR · TOYOTA FORTUNER · VOLKSWAGEN PASSAT · VOLKSWAGEN TIGUAN

SUZUKI Vitara gets another auto option

HYUNDAI shows off its brand-new i30 Hyundai Motor Company has taken the wraps off a refined new-generation i30 with improved dynamics, fresh styling and a new range of engines when it unveiled its new flagship hatchback. The all-new i30 formed the main attraction at Hyundai's exhibition at the Paris Motor Show and should reach us towards the middle of 2017.

The new i30 is Hyundai's European "DNA car" at the core of the brand in that part of the world. It provides an answer to changing values and customer preferences, technology driven solutions, individuality in style and flexibility. It is a car that is designed and built to deliver great value to single people, families, and young and old.

RENAULT Captur Sunset limited edition The arrival of Renault's fun and funky Captur Sunset LimitedEdition Dynamique spearheads the introduction of a new 1.5 dCi 66kW Turbo Diesel engine option to the range. "From the outset when first assembling the Captur range, it was always our plan to have a diesel derivative in the line-

up and the introduction of the diesel-powered Renault Captur 1.5 litre dCi 66kW Turbo Dynamique model to the current (petrol-only) product line-up is in direct response to the growing demand for a turbo-diesel derivative in this segment," says Jeff Allison, product manager at Renault S.A.

SHAPE THE FUTURE WITH THE ICONIC PRIUS

Suzuki has added the option of an automatic gearbox to the popular GL+ derivative of its Vitara. The newcomer is based on the two-wheel drive Vitara GL+, and replaces the manual gearbox with a latestgeneration six-speed auto. Up to now, the automatic was only available on the top-spec GLX, but following customer demand and dealer feedback, the GL+ Auto becomes the second automatic model in the new-generation Vitara line-up.

FORD Ranger 2.2 The Ford Ranger now boasts the most comprehensive lineup in the light commercial vehicle (LCV) sector with the addition of nine trend-setting new 2.2 Automatic models. This takes the range to an unprecedented 36 models. "The Ford Ranger has been a huge success story, and has redefined the LCV segment in terms of its performance, capability, technology and safety," says Tracey Delate, General Marketing Manager, Ford Motor Company SubSaharan Africa Region. "The introduction of a new six-speed automatic on the 2.2 Duratorq TDCi models will undoubtedly build on this legacy, broadening its appeal to an even wider audience.”

The Next Generation TOYOTA shows off new C-HR Crossover The all-new C-HR (Coupe High-Rider) is designed to stand out within the Toyota line-up and in the crossover market, representing greater stylistic freedom, creative engineering, eye-catching design and driving pleasure. It stays true to the features seen on Toyota's concept cars at the 2014 Paris motor show and at the Frankfurt show the following year. Its coupe lines are testimony to its designers' resolve to create a stand-out style for the brand.

Toyota is targeting a clear customer profile, people who are driven by emotions, who want individuality and seek to be first at trying new experiences and products. The C-HR's unique character demonstrates the flexibility that the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) gives to the developers in areas of its design, power-train and dynamics, enabling them to deliver a completely fresh take in such an increasingly commoditised crossover segment.

LAUNCH REPORT

Isuzu

OCT / NOV 2016

KB Updated

Eager I to show off its updated KB, Isuzu invited us for a launch in the Namib!

General Motors South Africa were kind enough to take a handful of motoring journalists into the dunes of the Namib for two days to sample the all new Isuzu KB300 to see how it stacks up against not only the competition, but it’s older brother. We were met at the Walvis Bay airport by the friendly General Motors and film crew, where we were given a choice of either a double cab or extended cab; some in manual, some in auto guise. A 30km gravel road to Rooibank was to be the first experience in the all new KB and as far as first impressions go, this was a good one. The new Isuzu is nothing more than a facelift; a new front facia, reshaped load bin lid (with the rear view camera now moved into the handle moulding) and all new spoked alloys take care of the exterior changes. This means the new KB still has those great road handling manners we came to like from the pre-facelift model. The KB300 feels planted to the gravel surface at the 80km/h district road speed limit and slightly over.

Text Anco Baard Images General Motors South Africa

With the tyres deflated to 0.8 bar, the new KB300 has no issues climbing up steep dunes if taking the correct line. It is possible to get the KB stuck, but more often than not, it stems from driver error and not a lack of power. Diesels can be notoriously tricky for dune excursions, but shift to third gear and the KB300 merrily cruises along at 1,600rpm, just before the turbo swings into full boost, giving you ample oomph to power up big sand heaps. This leaves the driver with nearly 2,000rpm worth of steam to crest some of the higher dunes near Walvis Bay as power tapers off at 3,600rpm. The interior has also seen a slight refresh. The instrument cluster is all new and integrates a shift indicator for optimal shifting and passive entry with a Stop/Start button as well as touch screen navigation which now comes standard on LX models and includes Wi-Fi Connectivity.

“...still has those great road handling manners...”

I’m sure, however, it is equally solid at higher speeds when all four wheels are engaged. Changing from 2H to 4H can be done at speeds up to 110km/h via a selection dial on the centre console while 4H to 4L is limited to 15km/h transmission in neutral. Body roll is hard to induce and the cab stays fairly level through cornering. It is, however, easy to step the tail out with the traction control system turned off fully; but it remains easy to control throughout the slide. As with the suspension setup, the motor has been left untouched and still produces 130kw and 320nm of torque that peaks at 2,200rpm. Power delivery is smooth and on tap when needed. Turbo lag seems relatively minimal for a high capacity diesel motor, perfect for conquering the dunes of the Namib or curb jumping at your local mall.

The six way electronic adjustment feature on the (optional) leather seats gives the driver enough movement to get an optimal driving position, so important when traversing down the slip-face of a dune. The KB’s cabin is still mostly made up of hard plastics, but fit and finish appears to be good. Honestly, there’s little separating the cream of the crop in this segment and it all comes down to personal preference and small details. If the Isuzu KB300 is yours, it’s a great one; it performs fantastically, looks good and comes in slightly cheaper than a comparable Hilux. Isuzu have also proven their commitment to client service by scooping the IPSOS award in June of this year and, most importantly, it’s available in some great colours other than white. Single Cab Prices range from N$239,000 to N$389,000. Double Cabs will cost you anything from N$348,600 to N$569,000 while the KB Extended Cab range is priced from N$344,000 to N$481,500.

If you’re an Isuzu enthusiast, there’s no better place to be than in the seat of a new KB. Arrange your test-drive today.

LONG-DISTANCE DRIVING TIPS

SAFETY FEATURE

Charl Grobler, manager of marketing and product planning at Suzuki South Africa, shared some tips, tricks and hacks to keep you safe on the road. Best of all, they’re simple to execute.

THANK YOU

KEEP YOUR LIGHTS ON

to Suzuki Auto S.A. for these helpful hints

“More and more cars come with daytime running lights, because it makes your car more visible on the road,” says Charl, “Dark-coloured and grey cars are hard to see on the road because they are the same colour as the tar. ”

SIDE MIRRORS “Adjusting your mirrors correctly is a crucial first step,” says Charl. Modern car mirrors are convex and give a bigger field of vision than previously, so if they’re adjusted correctly you shouldn’t have a blind spot. A perfectly adjusted side mirror has the back door handle in its bottom corner.

BE VIGILANT Says Charl, “Anything unpredictable on the roads is a risk.” Drunk pedestrians, driving near a school, overloaded vehicles and animals are all elements that need an extra level of alertness. “Actively judge what level of risk each of these could pose and adjust your driving accordingly,” he adds.

FOLLOWING DISTANCE Most people know to keep a healthy following distance, but few realise, as Charl says, “your stopping distance increases exponentially with speed and weight.” The heavier your car, and the faster it’s going, the more distance you need to leave between you and the car in front of you - and not a little bit more.

MIND THE TRUCKS It’s not the drivers that pose a risk, but the nature of the trucks themselves. A heavy vehicle has more momentum, a longer stopping distance and less chance of reacting to danger than a smaller one. There’s even a chance their brakes could fail. “Be ready to overtake them if you need to” says Charl.

USE THOSE BRAKES With ABS brakes installed in pretty much all cars on the road, don’t be afraid to slam down if you need to. The juddering, shuddering noise and movement of the car when the brakes are fully engaged actually means the ABS system is working. The advantage of ABS brakes is with the braking and releasing mechanism that causes the juddering feel, you can actually swerve around a danger without fear of skidding or your wheels locking.

CHECK TYRE PRESSURES This is absolutely crucial and the easiest thing in the world to check, says Charl. Check your tyre pressure against the recommended numbers located in the driver’s door, on the B-pillar, and it’s best to keep a tyre pressure gauge handy that you know is accurate.

Frog, Prince or Juke? We take a good look at this unique Nissan.

Text Henrie Geyser Images Nissan South Africa

SPEC SHEET

Some think it looks foxy, others think it looks like a frog peering out of a marshy pond but love it or hate it, you cannot ignore the restyled Juke cross-over.

revised front and rear ends, reshaped derriere and the bigger alloys are not eyecatching enough, our test car was painted in screaming canary yellow.

The Juke is one of Nissan's top-selling and most popular lines in this country and for very good reasons - it is one of the most pleasant vehicles in its class and serves up a family-friendly combination of practical and comfortable with a good dollop of driving pleasure.

Enough for a young lady to pop her head out of her black BMW at the traffic lights and say with a smile: "That thing you are driving is the ugliest vehicle I have ever seen on the road..."

Although Nissan has stuck to the successful formula of "if it ain't broke don't fix it" by not fiddling too much with its looks in the past, the latest Juke incarnation is a rather drastic step away from its unassuming and boxy looks which nevertheless pulled more than 500,000 buyers worldwide since its launch. As if it's bulbous frog-eyed DRL daylight running lights,

But so what, you don't have to kiss this frog for it to turn into a rather likeable prince because the transformation happens as soon as you slide in behind the steering wheel. It is delightful to drive and the longer you drive the Juke the more you like it. What really impressed me about the new vehicle was the willingness of its new-tothe-range turbo-fed 1.2-litre engine Nissan shoved under the stubby bonnet of the new Acenta model.

This little engine kicks out 85kW of power and 190Nm of torque which is good for a top speed of 178km/h. That makes it zip quickly off the mark because all that power kicks in low down in the rev range. However, the gear ratios of the six-speed box are widely spaced (clearly intended to translate into sip-sip fuel use) but it does mean quite a bit of soup spoon stirring with the left hand as well as energetic right foot exercise to keep up the engine revs, particularly when driving undulating stretches of black top, which tend to negate its frugal fuel claims. This Juke handles as well as one would expect from that upright stance. The speed-sensitive electric power steering is light, fairly direct and pleasant on the highway or when squeezing into tight parking bays.

The suspension is on the taut side and the new look Juke now also rides on bigger takkies so with only the driver aboard it does lean towards being a tad jumpy along rougher patches (this improves with four aboard and a full load). Speaking of loads, the white coats at Nissan took heed of the customers complaining about lack of packing space in earlier models and have lowered the (space saver) spare wheel to increase the Juke’s luggage space from 251 litres to 354 litres. This applies to all models, except the 4WD, which has to house a rear differential and multi-link rear suspension system. Nissan has not changed the furniture in the Juke’s living quarters dramatically... and wisely so as it is spacious enough, even for up to four biggies.

However, the entire range has received a specification upgrade and even the entrylevel Acenta model of the Juke has Bluetooth phone integration, cruise control with clever speed-limiting capabilities, auto Stop/Start technology and full climate control.

attention wherever it goes, particularly when dressed in a bright yellow party frock like ours was!

All models in the Nissan Juke range also feature vehicle dynamic control (VDC) and six airbags, key elements to this vehicle’s five-star Euro NCAP rating.

The models and prices are:

Because of its new funky coolness, sportier looks and interior improvements the Nissan Juke moves up in status within the growing segment of zesty newcomers such as the Ford EcoSport, Peugeot’s 2008, Opel Mokka and Kia Soul. However, this very kissable frog is not tailored for the conservative or introverted types because it will attract

What’s W

Being a motoring journalist isn’t the easiest job on the planet, especially if you have to review a car like the new BMW 740i. Boo-hoo-hoo, I hear you think, poor wittle motowing journo complaining about how tough it is to give an opinion on a one-point-four million Dollar luxury sedan. Well, it really is jolly difficult. Explaining every feature of this space ship would take a few hours so if my concise edition doesn’t do the car justice, BMW won’t give me another one. And if I get it really wrong, nobody will publish my article and I’ll end up on the street. Maybe your street. Washing cars without permission. To prevent this scenario from happening, I’ll jump right in by telling you that this is the sixth version of BMW’s big sedan. The 7-Series was launched around 1977 to finally give the Mercedes S-Class something to think about. Audi pitched up at the party even later with their A8 flagship but in most markets, ours included, the Merc kinda rules.

Our press car from BMW was coated in pearly white which also covered an optional MPack. This makes your 7Series look and feel sportier without wings, fins or other such ostentatious nonsense. Inside, someone had selected Mocca brown leather to cover most touch surfaces. It looked absolutely exquisite. Having recently celebrated their 100th birthday, BMW shows no sign of stopping their automotive progress. A perfect example is the 740i’s engine which – despite the “40" badge – was actually the Bavarian firm’s legendary 3litre turbo-petrol straight six. In this application, it churns out up to 240kW or 450Nm. Once again the motor amazed everyone with its trademark sound and punchy response over an incredibly wide power band. This flows via an eightspeed automatic gearbox to the rear wheels, while a 3-way drive mode selector offers highly distinctive modes from the fuel-saving Eco Pro to a rather keen Sport mode.

That doesn’t mean this BMW is a useless competitor – quite the opposite. Like the new Audi A8 – which I’ve also had the privilege of driving – it’s a refreshingly different and sporty alternative to the Merc.

These settings also change the digital instrument cluster as well as the car’s adaptive air suspension. The 740i’s ride is supremely comfortable, even with the somewhat rumbly low-profile tyres; but it can also hustle around corners thanks that Sport mode.

Personally I think the BMW is the most exciting of the trio; A8 and S-Class are tamer and more understated.

We even found launch control and clocked a best 0-100 time of 5.36 seconds – a smidgen faster than BMW’s claim.

I would also say that of the interiors. All three German mega-sedans offer exceptional space, luxury and technology but in the Bee Emm it appears to be more obvious. I’d swear it also has more buttons and these get a minor criticism – most of them are shiny silver; and thus almost impossible to decipher in broad daylight.

Other things I desperately need to squeeze in here are that you also get a long-wheelbase and two other engines: a turbo-diesel six cylinder and turbo-petrol V8 with equally confusing badges. BMW innovations include the latest i-Drive infotainment system with built in cellular

capabilities like live traffic, and map updates, weather, web/internet, concierge and emergency services. You may command it via buttons, a touch-pad, voice control or gestures – rotate your index finger to change the volume.

We also discovered auto and powered everything, massage and exercise options for most chairs, ambient lighting and perfume options, heads-up display, a N$81,000 Bowers & Wilkins sound system worth every single cent, incredible BMW laser headlights and a rear infotainment system with two tablets and a portable mini-tablet.

Sheer Driving Pleasure

Please note that some of these are optional extras and you may order even more sci-fi goodies for your Seven. It’s already got a self-parking function as well as a chunky smart-key with touch-screen but for a little extra, BMW will combine these two so that you can alight from your car and park it remotely. I’m not done explaining yet but we’re running out of time. Did I mention the self-steering and adaptive cruise control with stop/go function? Using these simultaneously means the 740i can actually drive itself – something I tried for a few short moments until my nerves gave in and I had a Terminator Skynet moment. The machines are taking over. I hope this serves as a decent summary of the new BMW 740i because, trust me, I’ve left out more than half its features. What I can confirm with absolutely certainty is that this new 7-Series has easily caught up to its rivals in terms of design, luxury and innovations. Oh yes, and one last thing: Happy belated birthday, BMW.

NX200t

L Lexus has a unique-looking compact SUV - we test the NX200t EX model.

Like roasted sheep's head, witblits, and rooibos tea, the Lexus NX200t makes the opinion-o-meter swing between "ugh" and "wow" with not much wavering between the North and South Pole. Simply put, when it comes to this new compact SUV from Lexus, you either love it or hate it! The rest of its bulky body and large rubber-wrapped alloys are fairly pleasing on the eye, even attractive in a BMW X5 sort of way; in spite of some weird bladelike creases and its sharp edges.

There’s no denying, the NX certainly looks striking but some might argue that it’s not pretty.

Once inside the classy and comfortable cabin of the NX200t, that previouslymentioned meter swings overwhelmingly into the positive. The overall design, layout and atmosphere in here is futuristic without looking too flamboyant.

The living quarters are also extremely well insulated and hence, very quiet. This definitely adds to the car’s luxurious feel and ability to munch mile after mile in great comfort.

“...a well-finished, classy SUV with rather dramatic off-the-wall looks...”

Those impressive figures are transferred to the tar via a quick-thinking and slick-shifting (six-speed) automatic transmission. Although no tar-scorcher, the two-litre turbo NX200 manages to jump out of the daily starting stalls quite energetically to clock up nought to 100 kays an hour in about 7 seconds. On the trot and out on the open road, the high-riding Lexus NX feels remarkably stable even when you get a tad playful through the twisties.
