Artist Comment My work is inspired by my everyday interactions with people. Friends act as models for my paintings. I explore memories of a conversation with each individual model through my artworks. The paintings

are a reflection of my own problems and ideas, which are then combined with the model’s personality.

mouth, the faces in my works changed with my interpretation to the models. Even though my works can be categorized as representational art, I do not depict the original models exactly.

Recently, I get my interests in the eyes. Our eyes can tell a great deal of things about ourselves. They

can show our feelings of anger, tenderness, love, and so on. They are nothing short of eloquent. They

get more and more eloquent as they go through many life events. Our eyes are the most informative organs in our face, and are regarded as an important clue for judging one’s feelings or character. I think each person’s face contains a great deal of information. The faces are the most interesting motif for me. Through painting the faces of people around me, I try to depict the common beauty that each person has in his or her face. Yasuyo Maruyama, 2016
