Mr. OSAMA ABDEL HALIM

CAPIC 2017

First of all, I am thrilled to talk to such an elite group, and I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of this event. One of the reasons that made me excited about this event is that it is organized by one of the most successful SPE student chapters worldwide; it is an achievement in itself and it tells a lot about the material of the Egyptian student. Let me tell you something about myself, I’m graduated from Mansoura University. 02 |ULTRA Newsletter |Issue 1 |Volume 2

Imagine yourself walking towards an unknown destination without a map, there is no way to reach anywhere; this is how education enlightens one’s path and make the life journey worth taking. I have always been proud as an Egyptian citizen. I strongly believe that the Egyptian students can be one of the best calibers in the oil and Gas industry once they receive the right education and exert the right efforts in making the best use of this education, which is the tool to navigate in life.

The aim of education is not only to develop one single virtue, but also to produce healthy normal human beings who understand the meaning of life and what it demands from them; an educated person is an asset for any country. Nowadays, human is considered the best national resource. On one hand, he can explore better opportunities for himself, and on the other hand, the entire nation would get benefited from his works.

However, there is a distinct difference between their meanings and implications, which are often overlooked by a majority of professionals.

Training programs are organized by the organization to develop employees’ knowledge and skills as per their job requirements. On the other side, Development is not directly related to job requirement; rather it aims at the generic development of the individual employees for the long term by focusing on Let’s move to training. Meet the Professionals Firstly, let me thank you for accepting our invitation, and come here in Apache Egypt to interview you as an example of Suez University, Faculty of Petroleum and Mining Engineering. Ok, we will start; I would like to know your background, education and your interests? Firstly, I would like to welcome you in Apache. I think it is the first time for you to come to my office. You are welcome anytime. I graduated from Suez Canal University in 2009, around 9 years ago. Then, I got my master’s degree from Cairo University in Natural Gas Processing. Then, I did my MBA in The American University in Cairo, then I got my PhD, also from Cairo University in techno economic, something related to natural gas processing, its recovery, how to recover it in an easier way technically, economically and financially, what the difference between all of them is, and what the conflict of interests between different issues. This is about my education background.

Could you tell us about how you started your career?

After I graduated in 2009, there were no opportunities, so I couldn’t join any company. I sent my resume to all the companies, but unfortunately I got no reply. As a result, I was obliged to join a company in a different sector not related to the oil and gas industry, and I stayed there for around 9 months. Then, I was invited by BAPETCO Shell joint venture. I have attended the interview with more than one hundred of my colleagues from Cairo University, Suez University and Azhar University. Then, we had a second interview and I joined BAPETCO in March 2010. I stayed there for 7 years. I worked in the field as a processing engineer, and I worked in the office as an operation engineer, then as a process engineer, technical support engineer. Then, I joined Apache for one and half years ago in 2016.

Dr. Aamer Yehia One was operated by Schlumberger and the other for Halliburton?

No, BAPETCO operates all wells. Schlumberger and Halliburton are service companies. They do not operate wells, and they just make some jobs in these wells. That’s all. As I told you, I am offering technical support to these companies whenever required. And so, provide technical support for injection network and pipeline network. What are your duties now in Apache? FAU-STRUCTURED ZEOLITES RESEARCH DURING ALKYLATION OF ISOBUTANE BY OLEFINS AND ITS PERFORMANCE ANALYSES. A. E. Shadrina, Ufa State Petroleum Technological University, Russian Federation E-mail: telyasheva@ro.ru A. E. Shadrina Currently there is a problem of getting cleaner high-octane components of gasoline to meet modern standards of EURO 4 and 5. One of the most promising components is alkylate, which can rightly be called “unlimited” to meet the technical, operational and environmental requirements. At the heart of the process of obtaining alkylate there is isobutane alkylation reaction by C3-C4 olefins. Industrial Technologies of alkylate production are associated with the use of hazardous and toxic liquid catalysts such as sulfuric acid or hydrofluoric acid.

So, in collaborative research with the view of developing zeolite catalyst of alkylation done by the Faculty «Technology of Oil and Gas» Ufa State Petroleum Technical University and the Division of Fuel «The Institute of Petroleum Refining and PetPromising direction in the development of technolo- rochemistry of the Republic of Bashkortostan» catgy is the use of solid acid alkylation catalysts, which alytic systems based on zeolite type Y have been due to their specific properties are an alternative to developed and investigated. traditional industrial catalysts (H2SO4 and HF). Na2O; alumina oxide and silica dioxide. High catalytic activity of such systems, apparently, is the manifestation of the acidic properties of the zeolite under the influence of cations H+, Ca2+ and Ln3+. The acid characteristics of the zeolite Y - density of acid sites, their availability and the strength distribution - can be optimized by a post-synthetic and synthetic methods. The latter should include dekationation, dealumination and ion exchange [2; 3]. 06 |ULTRA Newsletter |Issue 1 |Volume 2

In the synthesis of alkylation catalysts the most popular method was based on dekationation and ion exchange - substitution of sodium cations in the zeolite Na-Y, first by calcium cations, and then lanthanum and ammonium cations. The attention is hardly paid to approaches related to a combination of steps dekationation, dealumination and ion exchange of zeolite Y.

polycation-decationized form found that the maximum selectivity to isooctane isomers and duration of the process are achieved at temperature 70 °C, a ratio isobutane/butene equal to 100/1, feed space velocity 1 h-1 and a pressure of 2.0 MPa. • It is shown that the use as a binder in the catalyst synthesis Si-O-Zr leads to reduced formation of condensation products C9 by increasing the cracking reactions and the yield of C5 -C7, which also allows to extend the lifetime of the catalyst, while maintaining performance at a high level.

LITERATURE Figure 2 - General preparation scheme of zeolite catalysts for alkylation

In this regard, zeolite catalyst components based on zeolite Y with a modification comprising the steps of: dekationation, dealumination and ion exchange by cations of calcium, ammonium and lanthanum were synthesized. Zeolite Na-Y was chosen as the starting material having a crystallinity of 100%, molar ratio SiO2/Al2O3 = 5,2, the content of

Na2O = 13,1% by weight.

THE MAIN CONCLUSIONS OF THE WORK: • The effectiveness of post-synthetic modification of zeolite Y, based on a combination of dekationation, dealumination and ion exchange used in the alkylation of isobutane by butane-butene fraction. • Studies of alkylation process on the synthesized zeolite Y in the ultrastable 07 |ULTRA Newsletter |Issue 1 |Volume 2

CASHE – CHANGE AGENTS FOR SAFETY, HEALTH AND WORKPLACE ENVIRONMENT: A NEW PARADIGM OF HSE MANAGEMENT

LMWD Engineer Schlumberger Asia Services , Ex-Reliance Industries Limited. Dhaval Gupta It all started in 2013, when I joined Reliance Industries at Hazira Manufacturing Division. I was campus placed, a novice, yet gleaming with new ideas and approach towards life! In few days of understanding systems and processes, my manager recognized my skillsets quickly. Having a Guru who understands what you are good at, and assigns you with the same, could be one’s crucial recipe of success in life. He put me through a project that involved process optimization, people understanding and profit making, all things combined. To inculcate best practises in field of occupational health and safety, an innovative idea was introduced as CASHe (Change Agents for Safety, Health and Workplace Environment). This innovative project with proactive preventive approach comprising team work of Medical , Safety , Environment and Technical professionals , was all set to be landmark in field of Occupational health resulting in hazard free environment and a positive change in work attitude of employees and contract workers from grass root to top level. My job was to invite suggestions for improvement at workplace leading to greater efficiency & preventive measures and implement them (at a plant level these came from brainstorming sessions , learning from near miss incidents , RESOP( Reliance Safety Observation Programme ) observations , Plant walkthrough ,Industrial Hygiene surveys & inputs from DOSHE meetings & suggestion registers). CASHe erupted out of a challenge of establishing a sustainable system to ensure that each employee/worker does not suffer from occupational health hazards as the only cure for occupational disease is prevention. To address this problem brainstorming session were conducted with all the health & safety professionals. We trained teams ,who were expected to create awareness amongst their co-workers in the plant so that employees were empowered to identify the health hazards and protect themselves by making engineering changes in the manufacturing plants and preventing exposure to hazards. The Change agents from plant, occupational health physician, industrial hygienist safety manager worked in unison round the year to develop a detailed action plan , conduct weekly review meetings , ensure that employees / contract workers go through trainings , conduct monthly progress review , medical surveillance & periodic workplace monitoring.

Methodology 08 |ULTRA Newsletter |Issue 1 |Volume 2

Focus Areas

A large number of projects were undertaken under CASHe for two years , involving 13 sites /business sectors of RIL, which lead to drastic improvement of heath of employees and contractors, improved processes , improved safety measures at plant and improved revenue to the company. After working 2 years committedly with all units of organisation , on 23rd Jan 2015 a team was sent to headquarters in Mumbai , to be judges .We were given the best plant project award and appreciated by Chairman. It was time we took CASHe to global level and set and example for other industries.

Year wise Project Status

I had been to 21st World Petroleum Congress held in Moscow between 15th-19th June,2014 as the “YOUNGEST DELEGATE” from India and presented my research paper on “Deepwater Flow Assurance: An Indian Perspective”, which I did in 4 years of college life at UPES. I suggested that this great project could be shared with rest of world at one of wold’s largest Oil & Gas conferences being organised at Istanbul, turkey on July 09-13 2017. An year ahead we started preparations and submission to the congress. Out of 1600 high quality abstracts submitted to the Congress once in three years, about only 200 make it to the finals. We made it! Our team represented the paper witnessed by top O&G giants at the congress. In recognition of important contribution by youth to the energy industry .The World Petroleum Council selected top 3 best papers submitted by young professions under 35.On 13th July 2017 ,I bagged the Excellence Award for youth presented by H.E Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah . It didn’t just seem to be a piece of paper with words , it was years toil & satisfaction that came with it. Indeed nothing smells better than success !

INDUSTRY NEWS EGYPT FOCUS

The company started production from the first two fields, Taurus and Libra, of the West Nile Delta development in Egypt. First gas was exported to Egypt’s national grid on 24 March 2017. The commissioning of all nine wells of the development’s first two fields and ramp up to stable operations has now been completed.

Total Started Drilling at North Mahalla Concession

BP’s North Africa Regional President, Hesham Mekawi, stated, “We are proud to announce the early startup of West Nile Delta as it demonstrates BP’s ongoing commitment to help meet Egypt’s growth in local energy demand with the Ministry of Petroleum and our partners. West Nile Delta is a key part of BP’s growth strategy in Egypt.”

France’s Total Company started drilling the first exploration well in North Mahalla onshore concession in the beginning of May 2017. Seismic scans of the concession indicate reserves of 3tcf to 5tcf of natural gas, Al Shourok stated. continuing start-ups of these projects demonstrate In 2013 the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company momentum and a return to growth across BP.” (EGAS) posed a tender to explore natural gas in seven different regions, including two regions in the Nile Delta and Five in marine areas, where total acquired its North Mahalla concession. EGAS further intends to pose more tenders to explore natural gas to raise the national production rates. It is worth noting that Egypt is currently producing 4.45bcf/d of gas, where up to 300mcf/d are used to operate extraction equipment and the rest is pumped to the local market according to the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources’ data.

Zohr Development Reaches 83.5

BP Starts West Nile Delta Production BP issued a PRESS RELEASE announcing the start of production from West Nile Delta development, achieving first gas eight months ahead of schedule. Production came 20% over the planned production. 012 |ULTRA Newsletter |Issue 1 |Volume 2

Work at the site is currently focused on linking firststage wells in order to permit the production of gas later this year, according to the head of Petro Shourouk, Atef Hassan. He told the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Tarek El Molla, that seven wells have been drilled and their production capacities have been confirmed. The Petroleum Projects and Technical Consultations Company (Petrojet) recently completed its production of subsea manifolds for the field, according to Egypt Oil & Gas, though the manifolds must still be installed at the site. The Zohr gas field, estimated to hold up to 32 trillion cubic feet (tcf), was discovered by Eni, an Italian energy company, in 2015.

Halliburton’s North American revenue rose in the first quarter, thanks to growing demand for onshore services from shale producers, writes Kevin Godier

Saudis Say OPEC Output Cuts May Continue Past 2017 On Monday, Saudi Arabia energy minister Khalid Al-Falih said that he expected OPEC and other oil producing nations to extend a global oil supply cut to extend throughout 2017. Falih went on to add that after years of oversupply, oil markets were showing signs of rebalancing. Even with indications of markets rebalancing and an OPEC cut of 1.8 million million barrels per day during the first half of 2017, global supplies remain high. Crude oil prices have slipped back below $50 per barrel. Falih attributes falling prices to a few factors including low demand season and non-OPEC production increases, especially in the U.S. Despite the recent fall of benchmark prices, Falih sees signs for optimism. “I believe the worst is now behind us with multiple leading indicators showing that supply-demand balances are in deficit and the market is moving towards rebalancing,” he said. The Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) is a group consisting of 12 of the world’s major oil-exporting nations. OPEC was founded in 1960 to coordinate the petroleum policies of its members, and to provide member states with technical and economic aid. 013 |ULTRA Newsletter |Issue 1 |Volume 2

Halliburton has reported its first improvement in quarterly revenue since the end of 2014, illustrating how oilfield services companies are being buoyed by the rebound in shale drilling in 2017. In its first-quarter results, released on April 24, the world’s second largest oilfield services provider said its revenue from North America rose 24.4% to US$2.2 billion, driven by growing demand for onshore oil well construction and pressure pumping services. “There is no doubt that the pace of completions activity is catching up with the rig count, and we expect to see that relationship continue into next quarter, most certainly,” said Halliburton’s interim chief financial officer, Robb Voyles, on a post-earnings call. Houston-based Halliburton, the world’s largest provider of hydraulic fracturing services, released its results three days after rival Schlumberger, which posted its first year-on-year quarterly increase in revenue in two years, at 5.7%. Schlumberger’s numbers also broadly reflected the trend of US shale producers putting more rigs to work, buoyed by oil prices that have stabilised at around US$50 per barrel amid a slump that has so far lasted almost three years despite recent signs of recovery. Halliburton and Schlumberger both said they had been burdened by the costs associated with reactivating idled drilling and fracking equipment to meet the increase in demand, although Schlumberger – which generates much of its revenue outside the US – has been more cautious about redeploying its US fracking equipment than Halliburton.
