AW16 Forecast

Couverture and the Garbstore 188 Kensington Park Road Notting Hill, London W11 2ES, England Mon-Sat 10am - 6pm | Sun 12 - 5pm www.couvertureandthegarbstore.com

For AW16 we introduce an eclectic range of labels to the shelves of Garbstore, bringing together the best of timeless apparel and contemporary streetwear, with much in between.

We join forces with Golden Bear and Ebbets Field Flannels this season to bring you your annual dose of vintage-inspired woolen goods fusing American workwear with the Garbstore st yle. On the homefront, the in-house Garbstore collection works from a for wardthinking stance with an evolution to wider silhouettes and unconventional fabrications.

Our travels for the season saw results in the discovery of some new favourites. On the streetwear side, American label Brandblack shakes things up with an impressive line-up of luxe sportswear garments and re-imagined basketball trainers. For more classic options, Island Knit Works offer specialty mohair jumpers, handcrafted in the Japanese region of Ryomo with techniques exclusive to the artisan behind the label.

Bringing together our favourite items from Menswear, Womenswear, Kidswear, Toys, Beaut y and Homewares, the Christmas Gift Guide promises to make your shopping list easier than ever to conquer. And while we’re here, we might as well mention the launch of our Pump Commuter Pack - a series that features the f irst piece of apparel using the patent Pump technolog y. Bit of a game changer, if we do say so ourselves.

Japanese label Say Hello invite us into their Tokyo shop and gallery space to introduce us to their AW16 collection and collaboration with Common Education. We take a tour around the American style shop that brings together sweets, tees and spray paint in perfect harmony.

Separate to our ‘OK’ and ‘Pump’ Reebok Collections, connections were re-established with the likes of Ebbetts Field Flannels, Full Count Denim and Golden Bear. Garbstore’s take on Golden Bear Stadium Jacket is the heaviest piece of the collection. A thick melton wool with quilted lining, in two autumnal colourways - the jacket is a show piece for quality manufacturing and truly shows why Golden Bear, still remain the most notable American sports jacket producer after nearly 100 years in business.

Across the AW16 collection, Garbstore has collaborated with a range of esteemed brands and manufacturers to further bolster our winter allotment. The collection follows a darker palette - the soft fabrics, textures, and slightly oversized silhouettes give the collection warmth and comfort. Simple shapes have been beautifully constructed with French seams and internal binding and much of the collection’s focus is on addressing the shape and feeling of the garments.

For our utilitarian approach, the clothing labels have also changed to a more minimal and simple format, bringing a new look and era for Garbstore.

Our knitwear is all proudly made in England; a venture with a new British manufacturer produced the ‘English Racer’, a café racer style jacket made from top grade goatskin suede.

The Garbstore x Reebok “OK” collection doesn’t fuss about this time it’s all about simple designs and optimum fabrications

Taking the next step in our partnership with Reebok, we are proud to announce the launch of ‘OK’ - a stripped down collection of foot wear and casualwear for AW16. The range doesn’t tr y to be something that it’s not - it doesn’t have advanced technologies or f inicky gadgets, rather the focus is put on superior materials that create clean st yles.

We refer to organic fabrics and construction across the line, not just in the eco-friendly sense, but in the way that each piece comes together naturally. Flashy colour ways and bold prints have their place, but we’ve reser ved the ‘OK’ collection for those who prefer a down - tempo look.

Redef ining the world of luxe sportswear, Brandblack presents the perfect example of technical performance-wear with sharp aesthetics. After making a name for himself as one of the top players in sportswear design through working with names such as FILA, Adidas, and Philippe Stark, founder David Raysse brought his two decades of experience to Brandblack alongside creative visionary Billy Dill. The contemporary designs bring us activewear wardrobe staples and premium footwear. The label has quickly aligned itself with some of the top names of innovative and dynamic fashions, not an easy feat for a label with only a few years on the market.

It’s hard to argue with quality when a name like NBA star Jamal Crawford loves the stuff, but by all means, you can try. For AW16 we bring in some of the L.A labels finest offerings, including the much anticipated Kashiba slides and ‘No Name’ trainers, complemented by casual staples like the panel Ball Short and breathable Tech Tee.

And the most mysterious Japanese label award goes to... Island Knit Works. Here’s what we know - the label creates some top-notch mohair jumpers from a specialt y craftswoman in a small Japanese village. We snatched up some bold stripe jumpers, reminiscent of the mohair knits synonymous with the Punk movement, and some cardigans in eclectic patterns. And in case the ridiculously soft and cozy element doesn’t win you over, rumour has it that the technique used is unique to the inhouse Island Knit Works artisan. Exclusive to Garbstore outside of Japan.

Taking notes from Americana culture, Lady White Co. set their eyes on creating the ultimate staple tees for everyday wear. The Californian label keeps things local with cotton sourced, milled and sewn in their home state. The twin stitch finishing and athletic fit give the tees a nostalgic feel (if you were around in the 30s, that is) that sets itself apart from the majority of the basic tees currently on the market. They’re calling it “modern clothing with old personality” - sounds about right to us.

no one can argue with a brand that has basically stolen the premium sock game without any advertising or web presence If you’re ready to get into a Japanese sock cult, Anonymous Ism should def initely be your f irst stop. Channelling some undoubtedly obsessive energ y, the folks produce some of the f inest socks to date. If you ever tr y to research the label, you’ ll understand why they chose their name: they have next-to-no online presence, no press releases and you won’t catch them taking an ad out in any magazine. According to their founder Hirotsugu Yoshimura, they want to keep it that way - the product should speak for itself. With the Made in Japan knitted goods

Thick Melange Ribbed Sock

being a staple among Garbstore staff and customers alike, we can conf idently say - it does! For years the Japanese label lead the way in slub knit st yles, complimented by solid color ways and patchwork options. For AW16 we see things lean away from intricately mixed materials and experiment with fresh colour ways and patterned knits. These guys can’t disappoint.

18

With years of practice producing quality garments for some of America’s most favoured outerwear names, Cape Heights steals the spotlight with their third year of jackets under their own namesake Originally introducing themselves to the garment world as a manufacturer for some of the top American outerwear labels (Penf ield, L.L Bean, Lands End and Colorado) Cape Heights delved into producing original designs under their own moniker in late 2014. Their New England history allows the brand specialist insight into what is needed for the ultimate outerwear designs, leaving no room

for shortcuts or excuses when it comes to their own labels. Setting themselves apart from their more well-known sister label Penf ield, Cape Heights infuse higher doses of premium elements to every parka, gilet, and overshirt available. Though the style is amplif ied, durability and protection from challenging weather conditions are never sacrif iced, proven in the technical details and uncompromising construction.

A trip to Tokyo means a stop by the brick and mortar “See You Soon” shop, home to Japanese graphic designers-turned-clothing-label Say Hello. The Tokyo label takes their designs further with a unique batch of new graphic goods for AW16 made alongside street wear label Common Education.
