t's not easy for anyone to stay awake till 1am just to ensure no one dumps garbage on the road especially after a tiring day, but still there are residents in HSR Layout who do it. Our BBMP health inspector Vinod Vinodh Govindappa Maya calls and says yesterday he had night duty. I put it in the group to call volunteers to join. We started at 8pm in the night. So many people came to dump garbage, because of irregular collection in the neighbouring ward. Everyone had to pay the penalty and
we gave the neighbouring ward's health inspector's number to citizens and made them understand why citizens should be proactive in fighting for their rights of everyday garbage pickup. One or two houses were from HSR where the BBMP auto driver will be questioned for dereliction of duty. Few women who dared to come out of the house at 11pm to dump garbage when asked to pay fine approached the police station asking for help. When the police came, we explained the situation and
told them not to show any sympathy saying, “First time, excuse Maadi antha'. It's very unfortunate that women are using their gender card for sympathy after doing such a wrong thing. The cops understood our plight and told them to pay the fine, take the receipt and go home safely. The cops also told us: 'Call us if you need any help'. The mistake is with everyone for such garbage dumps to form: citizen apathy, BBMP ignorance and the

KYCA: For the cricketer in you
NEELAMANDHANA AND SON DISHAN
T
he Karnataka Youth Cricket Academy (KYCA) has a mission to produce top quality cricketers and train them to be good civilians in society. Located on Harlur Road Grounds, it is envisioned to become the foremost nurturing platform for young and emerging talent. Their idea is to create a centre of excellence for young talented cricketers who want to take their game to the highest level, by providing the best training curriculum, under the guidance of experienced coaches and trainers. Cricket is the most common sport played all over the world, it not only

helps you build your personality but also helps you in your mental fitness. The best way to relieve yourself from stress is cricket for boys and girls between 5 to 18 years. KYCA offers a package of comprehensive skill development and fitness sessions. The intensive cricket trains them physically and mentally. This is what some of the parents had to say to Garden City Plus: Mother Neelamandhana: “I enrolled my son at KYCA when he was 3 years old. He is now 12 years and the coaching is very good as I have seen much improvement in him. The coaches take extra care of the kids. My

son manages his studies and his training really well. The coaches are very hard working and it shows in my kid's sporting ability.
I have seen many other cricket training centres before coming here, but I could see that most of them are money-minded.
Father Vineet Tripathi: My son Vansh is just 7 years old and joined KYCA a year ago. He loves sports and I wanted to encourage that because I don't want him to get addicted to gadgets that serve no fitness purpose. KYCA is not money-minded. They want the kids to enrol and pursue cricket. The team sprit is missing in today's kids, and KYCA is filling that gap because cricket is a game of team work. Match practice is very good here, and they give individual attention to everyone.
Mother Neetis Kumar: My son Aarush is 9 years old; he joined 5 months ago. Sports is really very importent to everyone in life. I stay close to the center and find that they have dedicated coaches and a good outdoor setup for practice. The management is from a cricket background and that's why they are not money-minded and do their job competently and passionately. Father Yogish Khadilkar: I enrolled my daughther Aryahi who was the
first woman cricketer at KYCA when she joined 2 years ago. Now, she's 12 years old and last year, she even played at the zonal level for Karnataka, the only girl selected from this Academy. The school didn't even charge me for the training as she was the first girl to get picked. Now there are 25 girls at KYCA. She is a good opening batswomen. adio Active CR 90.4 MHz and Namma Bengaluru Foundation has begun a joint initiative to inspire school children to protect and conserve Bengaluru Lakes with a radio series of drama, quiz, elocution & more. The event aptly named Lake Dairies had students from 15 schools taking part at East West Public School in Rajajinagar last week. Here are some pictures from the first edition of Lake Tales and Lake Dairies to give you an idea of how it went. We would urge schools in and around HSR Layout and Sarjapur Road to also participate.
f you have a green thumb and environmentally conscious, perhaps you could join this Whatsapp group called Bengaluru Green Roadies. Follow this link to join my WhatsApp group: https://tinyurl.com/greenroadies But before that, read on. This group is meant for those living in BTM Layout and Bommanahalli assembly constituencies. Join this group, if you wish to be a part of the solution to the civic problems being faced in these areas and want to volunteer for clean-up drives at lakes, gardens, forests and parks, and want to improve the socioenvironmental condition of the city. Importantly, you will also become more aware of where the pollution is coming
from and who are the offenders. This is what the Green Roadies team found when they visited one such place for their cleanup drive on Arkere Forest: ............................... 1. Tulsi tea: The tea with a sea of benefits
T
here's a lot more than just holiness to holy basil. Tulsi or holy basil deserves a special place in your garden for its wholesome benefits. Which is why some chew on its leaves, burn its oil for a soothing effect, and also add it to pestos, sauces, and salads. Tulsi is the Sanskrit name of the holy basil (Ocimum sanctum). Different parts of the plant (leaves, stems, roots, flowers, and seeds) have been used to cure respiratory, digestive, dermal, inflammatory, and ophthalmological disorders. Since the raw plant parts are not very palatable and liked by many, the simple way of assimilating the goodness of basil is by adding it to the food we eat or drink. One such preparation that is least made and yet has the most medicinal value is tulsi tea. Tulsi tea is made by brewing the tulsi leaves in water. This infusion is exceptionally healthy and has been an important part of Ayurveda for thousands of years. It has digestive, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, stimulating, and stress-
relieving properties and is the best choice of b e v e r a g e f or t h o s e interested in natural healing. All credit goes to the complex biochemical composition of these plants of Ocimum genus. T he pl ant c ont ai ns eugenol, ursolic acid, and carvacrol, along with apigenin, luteolin, orientin, vicenin, and other flavonoids. Terpenes like linalool, limatrol, and caryophyllene, compounds like rosmarinic acid, estragol, propanoic a c i d , ap i g e n i n , c i r s i m a r i t i n , isothymusin, orientin, and vicenin, various saponins, triterpenoids, and tannins are all present in different parts of the Ocimum plants. Tulsi tea has high antibacterial (Staphylococcus, Bacillus, Pseudomonas, Vibrio species), antif ungal (Candida species), antimycotic, antiviral, and antimicrobial activity because of high le vels of sp ecif ic f lavonoids, terpenoids, and phenolic acids like linoleic acid.

Drinking tulsi tea can relieve bacterial, fungal, and viral infections in the respiratory, digestive, dental, dermal, ner vous, and urinar y systems. It can also reduce the inflammation in various parts of your body caused due to these pathogens. To make tulsi tea · 1 small saucepan or teapot · Water: 3 cups · Tulsi or basil leaves: 10-15, shredded · 1 small lemon slice or lemon juice: 1 teaspoon (optional)

leaf and not specific to this tea preparation. Has Antifertility Properties One of t he main draw b acks associated with basil and its extracts is it interferes with fertility. However, this effect is more pronounced in men than in women. There is also not much written or said about how safe tulsi tea is for pregnant and breastfeeding women. It is better to do so only under strict medical supervision. Might Act As A Blood Thinner Tulsi tea reduces hypertension, by which it can modify the composition and physical properties of your blood, like its thickness.
Strain the contents into a teacup with honey, sugar, or your regular sweetener. Serve it hot after adding some lemon juice. That's the simplest way of making a tea. Every sip is like a burst of pure oxygen. And congratulations on kickstarting the cheapest detox regimen! Side Effects Of Drinking Tulsi Tea
Caution!
There is insufficient and almost no evidence demonstrating the side effects of the tulsi tea. Whatever few drawbacks it has is because of the tulsi
As a precaution and good practice, it is always better to inform your doctor about substituting your regular beverage (tea or coffee) with tulsi tea.

an acronym can be an excellent aidememoir for the memorization of the word or formula. Take for instance the rather simple name “Enhanced Health and Usage Diagnostic System”. It's acronym is “EHUDS”, which sounds like “e-hud's” or “e-hat's”. All you have to do now is to think about electronic hat's and you'll most likely be able to come up with the acronym “EHUDS”, from which you can rebuild the original name. 2. Keep the bigger picture in mind The constructing of a car can serve as an example of the learning process. Your professor supplies the “know how” during his lectures, for instance, the detailed knowledge how an engine works. The textbooks and other learning materials supply you with the chassis, frame, tires, and bolts. But, it is up to the student to make use of the know-how, in order to use it for the combination of the delivered material. It's the student's job to put the car together and to keep the bigger picture of what is taught in mind.

Best shower tips to keep your hair healthy
H
·
·
·
ere's how it goes with most women – they learn a certain way of washing their hair when they were kids and never make changes to this routine even after growing up. In fact, I'm guilty of doing this too. T h o u g h t h e re i s n o t h i n g inherently wrong with sticking to a particular hair washing routine, the problem begins when it actually starts damaging your hair. You may think that you have split ends or is experiencing hair fall because there's something wrong with the products you are using and change them – only to see the problems persist. What you need to do is make a few changes in your hair washing and dr y ing rout ine to s e e an improvement in your hair within a few weeks. So, here are the best shower tips that you can follow to keep your hair healthy and happy! Steam your hair before shampooing it: The pores on your scalp are usually clogged with oil and dirt. The best way to cleanse them away is by steaming your hair. To do so, soak a towel in hot water and wring out the excess water. Wrap this towel around your head and leave it on for 20 minutes before jumping into the shower. Massage steamed hair before shampoo: After steaming your hair, gently massage your scalp with your fingers for a few minutes. This can loosen up the dirt and buildup and also root out the weak hair strands from your scalp. Use cool or lukewarm water: You know how they say using heat styling tools on your hair too frequently can damage them? Well, the same holds true for hot water. The heat from hot water
can strip off natural oils and leave your hair cuticles open, thus allowing all the moisture to escape from it. On the other hand, washing it with cool or lukewarm water can help close the cuticle and lock in the moisture, thus giving you shinier and smoother locks. It can also help reduce frizz. Use paraben and SLS free shampoo: I'm sure you must have heard some buzz about how you need to start using shampoos that are free of sulfates (SLS) and parabens. While parabens are added as a preservative, SLS helps in forming a lather. Both these chemicals have long been known to cause skin irritation and allergic reactions. But recent studies have found that they can also be carcinogenic and cause severe eye damage in children. So, it's best to use organic shampoos that are SLS- and paraben-free.

Apply shampoo only on scalp: The purpose of shampoo is to cleanse and remove the dirt, dead skin cells, and product buildup from your scalp. Rubbing shampoo on the lengths of your will only strip it of its natural oils and leave it looking dry, dull, and lifeless. So, take a q u a r t e r- s i z e d a m o u nt o f shampoo and massage it into your roots and scalp until it lathers up. Gently massage while shampooing: When lathering the shampoo, gently massage your scalp with your fingers, moving in a circular motion. Not only will you easily cleanse away the dirt from your scalp, the massage will also help improve the blood circulation to your hair follicles and boost hair growth. Don't wash your hair daily: Most shampoos contain chemicals

that can make your hair extremely dry and brittle if used daily. So, it's best to wash your hair no more than twice or thrice a week to maintain its health and optimum moisture level. Do not stretch shampooing time: Your hair is in its most fragile state when it's wet. So, ideally, you should shampoo and condition your hair within 15 minutes of wetting it to keep damage and breakage at the minimum. Condition your hair with oil before shower: A good way to condition and moisturize your hair the natural way is to massage it with a hair oil. Massage some coconut, almond, or olive oil onto your hair and scalp an hour before you wash it. This oil will penetrate your hair shaft and nourish it from within to give you softer, shinier, and frizz-free hair. · Towel dry before conditioning:

This step may sound a bit tedious to you but it's what you need to do to get frizz-free hair. After shampooing your hair, wrap a towel around your head to soak up all the excess water and then a p p l y c o n d i t i o n e r. T h e conditioner will get absorbed into your towel-dried hair much more easily and prevent it from frizzing up. · Don't use too much conditioner: Applying too much conditioner will weigh your hair down and make it look super greasy. Do not apply conditioner on scalp: You've probably already heard this a million times, but I'm still going to reiterate it once more – don't apply conditioner to your scalp. This is because it will form a build up on your scalp and clog your pores, leading to reduced hair growth and increased hair fall. · Don't leave the conditioner in for too long: If you think leaving the conditioner on your hair for extra time will moisturize your hair more, then you are dead wrong. Conditioners work quite instantaneously when the wet hair cuticle is swollen and open. So, there's no way that the conditioner can penetrate further than it already has when you first apply it. In fact, leaving the conditioner on for too long can actually make your hair greasy. · Deep condition every two weeks: You need to deep condition your hair at least every 2 weeks, especially if you have curly or kinky hair as these hair types tend to dry up pretty quickly. Keep showers short: Try to get in and out of the shower as quickly as possible because the longer your hair is sopping wet, the longer it is in its fragile, breakable state.
