SR is likely to go the hi-tech way very soon. Mr. Satish Reddy, MLA, Bommanahalli constituency has announced to secure the arterial roads in a hi-tech way by installing permanent sophisticated cameras equipped with technology to keep tab on HSR Layout road junctions mainly. The CCTV cameras are equipped with 360-degree rotation capability, 37-time zoom with high resolution and night vision. And unlike most cameras in the city (barring those at traffic signals), which only provide recorded footage, the ones in HSR Layout will stream live data, which can be used to monitor 24/7. These cameras will provide live feed to cops. This helps to bring down robberies and chain snatching in the locality
which was one of the main issues women were facing. Finally, the much talked about and awaited technology will make its presence felt, thanks to Mr. Satish Reddy. This will help in booking the culprits quickly and bring relief to the women folk in particular.

ycling is the best way to keep good health as is proven since time immemorial. There have been people recommending this style of life to maintain good health and promote anti-pollution drive. Even many corporates have also voiced their support to this. But, when it came to basic implementation, there are no takers as each one wants its own luxury and convenience unmindful of the traffic and the pollution it causes. Here is an enthusiastic cycling group consisting of Sangaram, Ashwin Rao, Pradeep, Prashant Kumar Nargi, Raghu, Veera Badra, Ananth Kumar and Nagaraj from ‘Cadence Design Systems’, Bengaluru. This group was initially started by Sangaram and Ashwin Rao who regularly commuted to office by cycle for almost a year regularly. The duo has set an example by achieving what is considered to be next to impossible. Cycling is no convenience, but it does take a lot of grit and resolution and will power to get in to this act. It is not just that one cycles near the place of residence once a week or whenever
‘time permits’ to keep a fit and fine health and also contribute to the society by not polluting the environment. They promoted and encouraged colleagues and friends to use cycles
and now the number has increased from 2 to 20. They believe that cycling to office has several benefits, it helps them beat the traffic, stay fit and save fuel expenses while doing their bit for the environment. Their office,

‘Cadence’ encourages them by providing state of the art cycle stands, shower rooms and locker facilities in office. This group strongly feels that it is a moral responsibility of every citizen “We would even tell every human being on this planet to think of paying back to Mother Nature, pay back in terms of saving power, payback in terms of saving water, payback in terms of saving paper, payback in terms of saving fuel or in one word payback in terms of saving all kind of natural resources that is contributing to Global Warming. All in all cycling would be the best mode of payback to the Mother Nature”, said one member of the group. This group is conducting workshops and creating awareness within the company and other corporates so that many more can come forward and adapt to cycling to commute to office and benefit from the same and simultaneously help save the environment. Cycling has become the most popular outdoor activity which is the best way for better health and fitness. "Go Green for a better tomorrow go cycling"

Kasavanahalli Road Needs Immediate Attention from BBMP
he Storm Water Drain on Kasavanahalli Road lacks continuity at certain spots as the Road Works Dept of BBMP is not able to acquire the land for it, due to various reasons. The gradient is towards Kaikondrahalli. It is observed that some large communities along this road much before this particular location allegedly used the
Resident`sSpeak SWD to drain their treated and untreated sewage water. This SWD stops at BRS Global School and the rest of the flow in front of Bhuvana Greens Apartment is onto the road. This water contains raw sewage, too. There are eateries, residential complexes apart from normal commercial buildings and a school in and around this location. Pigs are a usual sight here. Being a dirty area, people use this spot to dump garbage. The flow of this dirty water has already destroyed this newly laid road. Owing to the bad road condition and the stinking water, the
Email: gadencityplus2013@gmail.com
ongoing travelers suddenly shift to the right side, at this spot. This has resulted in many accidents. Traffic jam or road block is a common occurrence here. The pedestrians, including children from BRS School and senior citizens from the communities around are forced to step into this sewage water filled with pigs and garbage or take a high risk and cross onto the other side of this congested road. This area is thickly populated and the number of vehicles passing by this road is high, too. The BBMP officials and the elected representatives and authorities are well aware of the situation here. This issue of the discontinuity of the drain was discussed even while laying the road two years back. Many representations were handed over to the BBMP authorities, the MLA and the Corporator but no
solution is in sight, as of now. The citizens had suggested to lay drainage pipes across the road to get the flow continued onto the other side. But, even this is not being considered. Immediate action is required for people to even live without the stench and filth all around. The drainage is unavailable for a short distance of around a furlong or a little less. So, the water flows on the road till there and falls into the SWD. There is sedimentation, too on the road. - Laly Randolf

How Higher Magnesium Levels Prevent Fractures In Elderly
H
igher levels of magnesium in blood may increase bone strength and act as a buffer against the risk of fractures, one of the leading causes of disability and ill health especially among the ageing population, a study has shown. The study showed that men with high
levels of magnesium, an essential nutrient and an important component of the bone had a 44 per cent reduced risk of having a fracture. On the other hand, men with lower levels of magnesium had an increased risk of fractures, particularly hip fractures. 'The findings suggest that avoiding low serum concentrations of magnesium may be a promising though
unproven strategy for risk prevention of fractures,' said lead author Setor Kunutsor, research student at the University of Bristol. However, for the elderly, people with certain bowel disorders, and those on certain medications, increasing the intake of foods rich in magnesium may not necessarily increase blood magnesium levels. Treating the underlying conditions and magnesium supplementation may be another way of avoiding low blood levels of magnesium, the researchers said, in the paper published in the European Journal of Epidemiology. The study could help trigger initiatives to include blood magnesium screening in routine blood panels, as low blood levels of magnesium are very difficult to identify. 'The overall evidence suggests that increasing serum magnesium concentrations may protect against the future risk of fractures; however, well-designed magnesium supplementation trials are needed to investigate these potential therapeutic implications,' explained Jari Laukkanen, Professor at the University of Eastern Finland. For the study, the team followed 2,245 middle-aged men over a 20-year period.None of the 22 men who had very high magnesium levels (> 2.3 mg/dl) experienced a fracture during the follow-up period. ngredients 1 teaspoon ghee 2 tsp sprouted ragi flour 1 teaspoon grated jaggery 1 cardamom pod – powdered 1-2 Almonds chopped Water/milk as required Recipe In a pan, heat ghee and roast ragi flour till you get a little roasted aroma. Keep stirring continuously. Once roasted, take off heat and let it cool. Once slightly cool, add 1 cup water and mix well using a whisk. It is best to mix well when cool and then put back on heat. I learnt it the hard way as it becomes very lumpy if you put water on hot flour, just like atta. Put back on heat and cook while whisking constantly. Add grated jaggery and keep cooking. This will take 2-3 minutes to thicken. Add cardamom powder and take off from heat. Add milk to adjust the consistency. If your child is finicky about lumps like mine, pass it through a sieve. Now Post Offices, Bangalore One centers to accept e-waste in the city
T
he city is the third-largest producer of e-waste in India, preceded by Mumbai and Delhi. But Bengaluru's official recycling units are woefully underutilised as around 70 per cent of e-waste is handled by the unorganised sector and the rest by organisations registered
with the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB). The need of the hour, according to environment experts, is to create awareness among
individuals about formal and responsible disposal of e-waste. Taking a step in this direction, two city-based nonprofits, Saahas and Environmental Synergies in Development (Ensyde), are collaborating with post offices and Bangalore One centres to set up e-waste collection units in their premises. "We have been encouraging schools and other institutions to set up e-waste collection centres on their premises. However, not everyone has access to those," said Divya Tiwari, CEO, Saahas. "People do not want to carry heavy electronics to far-flung authorised collection centres and high logistics costs do not allow organisations like ours to collect door-to-door." The onus is on households to transport e-waste to authorised collection centres. The process has not been monetised, which is why people often resell equipment to unauthorised collectors for a few rupees. The latter do not follow scientific or safe processes to extract metals, causing pollution.
