Silk Board Junction and its Nightmares

O

ne of the most important, well known, popular junctions not only in the southern part, but in the entire city - Silk Board Junction is now a heavily polluted and badly maintained one. Adding to the woes, the traffic jam hindering flow of traffic compels one to be exposed to the pollution, since it is almost bumper to bumper traffic between BTM, Silk Board and Agara flyover. The inhalation during the travel time could prove to be toxic enough leading to respiratory problems. This can be guaranteed. Period. Compounding the air pollution, the road leading to Bommanahalli at the junction is posing serious threat to motorists. The road from BTM bus stand to silk board is too rugged with large pebbles written all over the road up to the junction. Soon after the signal at this point, after taking a right turn starts the nightmare for at least 50 meters, bouncing and bumping along the road, filled with pot holes and uneven surface due to tardy job of asphalting. As the vehicles speed the moment the

signal is through for flow of traffic from the BTM side of the junction, the dangerous gaping potholes welcome them by posing as man eaters by its sheer nature and condition of the road. Since it is almost a blind turn, the unsuspecting motorists could easily speed to death or at least to be injured seriously, especially during nights. Besides, pedestrians crossing the road also mount to miseries as this is unchecked. The pedestrians invariably do not follow traffic rules and keeping tab on them is next to impos-

sible as there has to be a provision for more than a couple of policemen only for that job. Is this viable for the traffic police? When will we learn to follow the traffic rules, which are for our conveniences us only? By not observing the rule, we not only endanger our lives but also the motorists’ lives? One, the condition of the road and second the pedestrians’ nuisance are causes for the difficulties for the motorists to navigate and negotiate such turns in haste. On a top priority, this stretch of the road has to be

A Differently-Abled too helps his Family

When one has a surrounding where he is well looked after by his parents, little will the person venture in going for an employment to support the family. More so, when he is disabled! Garden City Plus came across a boy who insists that he supports his parents in spite of him being differently abled. Very few would think of supporting a family when he himself is in need of support. Madhusudan, 18, had a bout of polio attack as a child and has been living with this handicap since then. He had to discontinue his studies after grade II due to various reasons and also has a sister who is recently married off. His parents take care of him to the best of their abilities to ensure their son does not feel that he is a burden on them. Both his parents are employed and with the meager earnings they love to all happiness to their son. In addition, the sister too is very fond of him and gives him her helping hand. One day, all of a sudden it dawned upon him that he is, on the other hand

a burden to them and decided to go out. He wanted to earn and support his family. On one such occasion, he met a person who is a member of Dr. Rajkumar’s Fans Association. He did not want to waste his time, so he put forth his idea of earning with all his limitations. The moment he decided that he would sell fruits to earn for a decent living and support his family to the maximum extent possible, the late matinee idol’s fan ensured he met one Dr. Raju, who instantly agreed to sponsor a cycle to him and the fan immediately raised some funds to purchase Guava fruits as his investment. This was the beginning and he still can be spotted selling fruits outside Forum at Koramangala. He is a happy man and has kept his parents happy by his contribution. His working hours are from 10 am to 7 pm. during which time he meets several people and engages them in a talk ever smilingly. Wish we all learn a lesson or two from this boy!

looked into to save many lives and avert many accidents taking place in the coming days. It is not just filling that is the need of the hour, but a proper supervised relaying of the road itself is required to ensure safety. Avoiding the gaping holes and the damaged surface of the road by the motorists is the root cause for many accidents some, very serious in nature. It is not only the case under the flyover at this junction. The movement of vehicles on the Madivala to Silk Board flyover also is cause for concern. The

uneven surface here is too dangerous to commute. Pot holes, though not so extreme a case as the one below, can be seen throughout the stretch, here too. The speeding vehicles swerve to either side to avoid these craters on the flyover resulting in accidents. The photograph is enough proof of this. In fact, the irony of this particular accident was that it happened just behind a law and order police van ferrying the accused to be produced in the court. Ultimately, the police had to intervene by stopping their vehicle and clear the traffic. The entry and the exit points are too bad for smooth flow of vehicles as it is too bouncy due to the uneven surface and the slabs giving way in the middle. This has to be looked into by the authorities concerned immediately and address it very soon. These two roads have to be relayed on a war footing. Garden City Plus will take a pledge in getting these to the notice of the authorities concerned and their reactions on this will be sought immediately.

Cows Drugged and Stolen in HSR

Rumours are abuzz with alleged reports on cows being stolen and taken away to slaughter houses perhaps, according to sources on condition of anonymity. On August 4, there were at least a couple of complaints of cows being drugged and reportedly taken away in an inebriated state and almost unconscious state. In one such incident, the person in question was interrogated on the issue and pat came the reply that he had bought the cow from a person in Agara. When asked to bring the owner, he ran away and made good his escape. A veterinary doctor was called and on treating the animal, it was found to have been drugged and not given any normal pain killer. This incident took place in Parangipalya, 18th cross. This is a fever which is doing rounds since a few days. There are reports emerging from 6th sector too. A cow was not looking alright and even when offered water, it refused to drink and it seemed to be drugged. After a while, the cow was not seen, It just vanished in thin air was the reaction from the eye witness. The public and the police have been alerted.

he AECS Layout ‘B’ Block is a relatively new layout planned by a housing society of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd., on the Hosur Road, right next to the IT corridor (Electronics City). Around 250 houses have been constructed in this layout in the last two years, though the layout was formed about 20 years back. Due to a significant increase in real estate value, most of the initial allottees have sold their sites. Consequently, this layout now has a predominantly IT based population

he BMTC bus shelter at HSR sector 3 on Mangammanap a lya road is a paradise for the canines to take shelter and in fact make a living. The photograph illustrates the point made. Are the buses plying here? Or, is it the other way around? Maybe, the commuters do not use the public transport from this bus stand. If it is so, then it is waste of money for the BMTC to go ahead with this route. Then the people residing around this area do not have any right to complain about non-availability of bus services on 19th main of HSR. On the contrary, if BMTC is not feeding this route, then perhaps the whole exercise of the promotional activities for usage of public transport is utter waste of time and money spent on it. The purpose of spending to erect a structure itself will be defeated if the said structure is not put in use. It is for the people to make use of it and only when the transport corporation is convinced about the number of commuters using public transport, only then

will it ply buses on this route. Instead of residents using it for shelter to board buses, animals have made it their den. The entire stretch of the road till sector 2 is so shabby that it is impossible for people to use it. The parking of heavy vehicles adds to the woes along with the garbage disposal in the stretch which has made the road a pig sty. The air pollution seen here is perhaps the worst in entire HSR layout. Action has to be taken with immediate effect by the agencies since many RWAs have already brought this to the fore and addressed this issue several times, but unfortunately nothing has been done so far.

Residents Welfare Association (RWA) was taken. A management committee called as the “Core Committee” was formed to channelize these activities systematically. Consequently, the AECS Layout ‘B’ Block Residents Welfare Association (ALBA) was registered as a formal RWA under the auspices of the Registrar of Societies Act, in Feb 2014, with the inclusion of other like-minded citizens in the layout, who were prepared to take up the issues with the respective civic bodies for speedier implementation, under the leadership of Mr. Kalase Gowda, who was involved in association building activities in the HAL employees union. The very first set of activities in ALBA was to approach and appraise the AECS Society, the elected representatives of civic bodies such as MP, MLA, councilor and officials concerned such as Police (including traffic), BBMP, BESCOM, BWSSB, Forest

Dept, BMTC, etc. Follow up was done systematically, resulting in improvements in streetlights, asphalting of roads and increase in police patrolling. However, the larger difficulties of drinking water availability, de-silting of SWDs, mud roads, lack of development of parks, sanitary issues, thefts, burglaries, unreliable bus services, dumping debris, dumping of plastics/garbage by eateries, encroachments, bore well operators cartel, etc. are still continuing and require the immediate attention of the civic authorities. There are plenty of civic problems to be solved with top priority, one of which is so dangerous that it could prove to be fatal if over looked. There is a gaping hole with broken slabs staring at motorists waiting to swallow on the road connecting to Begur. Adding to woes, stones and branches of trees are placed to divert the motorists from falling in to the hole. This is exactly at a turning point on the curve which bears the brunt of heavy vehicles. The photograph speaks volumes of the danger. There are still around five roads that need to be asphalted and the pathetic condition of the sewage and drainage is found wanting. The RWA’s President is Mr. Kalase Gowda, Mr. Hanumantiah - Vice President, Mr. Syed - Sr, Vice President and Mr. Dhandapani is the General Secretary.

Soil Preparation – Kitchen Waste Management - R. TARA CHANDER

very family however small it is will have daily kitchen wastes. The disposal of the kitchen waste is a big problem especially in countries like India and that too in big cities like Bangalore. Many lack knowledge on proper waste management and hence we see more often the wastes are being thrown outside or lying unattended. Many people expect that the city corporation should care for the waste produced by every home. The urban waste is managed by city corporations but, it is still ineffective unless each small family takes the responsibility and cares for their own waste produced. Converting your home kitchen waste into rich manure is called composting. The composting is a natural recycling process. The process of converting the kitchen waste into organic manure is very simple, mostly done by nature with the help of microorganisms which enriches the soil. Compost is organic matter that has been decomposed and recycled as a fertilizer and soil amendment. Compost is a key ingredient in organic fertilizer. At the simplest level, the process of composting simply requires making a heap of wetted organic matter known as green waste (leaves, food waste) and waiting for the materials to break down into humus after a period of 3-4 months. Composting food scraps at home is one of the most important aspects of home composting because food scrap items such as vegetable and fruit waste, meal leftovers, coffee grounds, tea bags, stale bread, grains, and general refrigerator spoilage are an everyday occurrence in most households. Composting is the best way to handle your food waste; you can convert your

daily dustbin contents into rich, organic manure and grow flowers, vegetables or plants with it. If you are a beginner to composting, start off with the most popular method: aerobic composting in a pot. Aerobic composting is done above-ground with the help of microorganisms that consume and decompose organic

waste matter in an aerated environment. You can make the composting container yourself or buy one Composting your kitchen food waste is easy and requires little time, effort or space, Kitchen waste is high in moisture and has very little structure once it has decomposed. The compost is invaluable for the soil in your garden or potted plants: It's a complete and natural food for the soil, helping to improve its structure, waterretaining abilities and overall health. Organic Compost naturally buffers alkaline and acidic soils, releases nutrients more slowly than synthetic fertilizers, provides macro- and micro-nutrients not available synthetically and best of all, costs nothing to make. You only need four things to make nutrient-rich compost: air, water, carbon and nitrogen. Carbon,

Why can't we not compost these food wastes? • They imbalance the otherwise nutrient-rich structure of other food and vegetation waste and breakdown slowly • They attract rodents and other scavenging animals • Meat attracts maggots • Your compost bin will smell. • Vegetable and fruit peelings • Old bread, cookies, pizza crust, Steps involved to prepare the compost: noodles: anything made out of flour • Grains (cooked or uncooked): rice, barley etc. • Tea leaves, filters and coffee grounds • Fruit or vegetable pulp from juicing • Old spices • Outdated boxed foods from the pantry • Corn cobs and husks (cobs breakdown very slowly) • Crushed egg shells • Grass cuttings, coarse twigs and 1: Get a big mud pot or a bucket with holes on all directions to have a good stems and weeds • Dry materials like scrunched-up oxygen flow. Have nearby a small pail of finished • Woody pruning provided by brown waste, gives the microbes the energy that helps them break down organic matter; nitrogen, provided by green waste, supplies the microbes with proteins; air and water fuel the composting process.

Energy Drinks+Alcohol = Heart Attack?

What happens when you mix energy drinks with liquor? Well, even death could occur say health experts. It is very dangerous to mix energy drinks and alcohol as one is a stimulant and another is a depressant. Consuming both of them together is like bombarding your whole system. Currently, there isn't enough scientific evidence to properly explain why this combination is so dangerous but health experts warn not to try such things. There are many people who have the habit of mixing both energy drinks and alcohol. That could lead to heart attack and it has happened in several cases. In fact, some countries have banned energy drinks to avoid such incidents. Now, let us discuss more facts. High doses of energy drink consumption can cause POT syndrome. This

disorder can cause chronic fatigue. Energy drinks are also linked with Orthostatic intolerance. It is nothing but a condition which makes your heart beat faster than normal when you get up from sleeping position. As alcohol is a neurotoxin, it is also

Why Raising A Cat Is Healthy

dangerous. Also some varieties of alcohol spike your insulin levels and may cause diabetes too. Also, if you feel like consuming energy drinks often, it could mean that your body lacks enough energy which isn't a normal condition. Consult a doctor. Health experts say that certain factors like stressful life conditions, lack of sleep, depression, bad nutrition and negative emotions may also increase the urge to try such experiments like mixing energy drinks with liquor. People who suffer stress or anxiety should totally avoid both alcohol and energy drinks. Otherwise, their mental and physical health may go haywire. Also as energy drinks consume lots of caffeine and artificial sweeteners which are carcinogenic and fatal, it is better to stay away from them. Source: www.boldsky.com

compost, peat moss, sawdust, rock dust, leaf mulch or humus (good soil). 5. If you get some dry leaves, mix it with the kitchen waste. 6. Repeat the same till all the pots are full, one after another. This would take minimum 3-4 months. 7. Fruit flies are attracted to exposed and excessively moist food scraps which become odorous when left to rot. Keep food scraps covered by adding dry materials like shredded paper, straw, leaves, or sawdust. This helps eliminate odours and fruit flies. 8. A good way to keep fruit flies or gnats from sneaking into the bucket is to line the lid with newspaper. This also cuts down on odours seeping out. Replace the paper when it gets moist and deteriorates. 9. To keep rodents out of kitchen waste composters, put a rock on the lid or use a bungee cord to hold the lid on. Avoid adding meat and dairy products as they attract animals, smell bad and should not be composted in a home composter. 10. Turn or intermix the GREEN & BROWN ingredients of your pile with a spade, and water it if it seems dry; if the heap is too wet, add some dry, bulky material. Acidic conditions inhibit decomposition. 11. Check the base of the heap after 3-4 months and dig out the dark, well-rotted compost.

Tutoring Children with Dyslexia is a Multi-faceted Task

very adult is different and no two persons can be the same. This is a commonly accepted theory universally. Similarly, no two children can be the same. The difference can be in any form like height, weight, sight, speech, tone, passion, compassion, behavioural pattern, grasping power, understanding capability, disability in any form, concentration, and intelligence to cite a few. Some may excel in a particular field and others may not in that field, but might excel in some other field. This is life. Children with learning difficulties with a little mental disorder are spastic children –but God sent. But, one aspect of these children is sure. Each one has one thing in common and that is they are all human beings yearning to become at least a ‘Somebody’, if not ‘Everybody’. This reflects on any child when asked a question on what he wants to become when he is a grown up man – even when the child is a disabled onefor that matter, an autistic child. This aspect of a child is enough to nurture him back to his normalcy even if he has his own disabilities. In today’s World, there are too many names associated with the deficiencies that any patient would be suffering from. Each of these has a medical specialist attached to it for treatment with different techniques that he adopts to diagnose and treat, which any other specialist would not touch the patient to treat him for the disease or ailment he has. So much for technological advancement! Similarly, education too does come with specialist training for children, teachers and the heads of the institutions. A few might just pass off with experience, but the training along with the experience is what that really counts in the final output for better results. lessed are those who have no deficiencies, but less blessed are those who carry these syndromes or deficiencies. Or, so we think. On the contrary, they are the ones who are really the ‘Blessed Ones’. It is purely on the basis of their display or showcasing their talent in a more authentic manner that a normal child would, perhaps. There is no dramatization. Yours truly, visited one center which is devoted full time in making children - having Dyslexia and Attention Deficit Disorder – become more normal over a period of time. This exercise needs a lot of time in moulding children having this deficit. The Center, ‘Learning Arc’, owned and run by Mrs. Sima Bhushan, exactly does that. She is a post graduate

diploma holder in Assessment and Remediation of Specific Learning Difficulties from Hornsby Institute of London and specialized in the field. She is a Learning Disability Consultant in Bangalore since 2005. She has been instrumental in the assessment of hundreds of children for learning difficulties, namely Dyslexia and Attention Deficit Disorders. With belief that early intervention is the best for every child, Mrs. Sima and her teachers help children overcome various deficits in reading, spelling, sequencing and writing skills. Diagnostic assessments are done by the team. She conducts awareness programmes and sets up resource rooms in many schools in Bangalore by training teachers to teach children with learning difficulties. The center largely concentrates on those children who have Dyslexia and Specific Learning Disability for which an Assessment, Diagnosis and Remediation is suggested both to the parents and the respective schools the children attend. Such regular assessments are made and the progress or lack of it is determined for proper follow up action from all the three parties concerned. The process of teaching itself is different and unique with all the latest methods, derived from her training in London, is adopted and put in use here at the center. Her teaching staff, 15 in number is all well qualified in psychiatry (dedicated Clinical and Counseling Psychologists) and a few are post graduates and or were employed in large establishments,

A Teacher Tutoring a Child

giving that bit of professionalism to the teaching process. The uniqueness at the center is that each student is given a specific time schedule to attend sessions and a one to one concentrated attention is given to the children. This was the best part noticed. It looked as though the teachers were humming in the ears of the children to ensure the others are not disturbed or distracted. The spacious hall and the rooms filled with books and other reading and play games materials that are on display is a sight to watch. Perhaps, Mrs. Sima has given a lot of thought and planning before she started this venture to accommodate these children and giving them the required space. There are a lot of challenges faced by the teachers. As Ms. Roseline put it, there are instances when the children become obstinate and stubborn and put their foot down in negating in performing certain activities, it becomes too difficult in controlling them to bring them back to the original mood. This is where patience comes in to play. The distraction id due to their hyper active brain which makes them get agitated sometimes. It is not always work, work and work at the center for the children. They are taken to aplay room and made to choose their choice of games and while at play, the teachers cajole them in an effort to draw their attention back to focus and a few questions are posed when the children are more relaxed to answer and that too correctly. There is a questioning session and later they are made to

Email: gadencityplus2013@gmail.com

write so that they fall in line with the expected percentage of results almost. The sequencing skills of their brains, tells them not to write. That is the major hurdle. The center handles speech and language, sequencing, auditory sequential memory difficulties and motor skills to name a few of the exercises that are in place. These include jumbling words, poor use of syntax and difficulty in tracking, in

4

dressing, in putting shoes on the correct foot, in directionality confusions, in clapping, in using scissors or cutlery, in hopping or in throwing. Finally, it is that extra bit of patience, dedication and devotion on the part of Mrs. Sima and her staff which is paying off; without which the children or their parents can never dream of getting better even with passage of time. This center is necessary for such gifted children who put in all their efforts to make themselves better citizens of tomorrow. But the faculty members insist that it is not only them but the teachers and the parents’ involvement is also to be considered to a great extent because they too will have to train the children at school or at home. So it is an enormously routine programme with a chain link involving many people. Signing off Mrs. Sima said, “It indeed has been an exciting journey so far and I want to continue in this profession since I love children, which is the first positive note in me. I have had a contented life these 10years with the children and I take pride in saying that I could manage both my family and profession with aplomb”. The center is situated on 6th main, ST Bed layout, Koramangala and is due to open its HSR branch on 22nd cross, 24th main, inside Floretz Academy Compound, Sector -2, in January, 2016.

Learning Social Values that Influence Behaviour of Individuals SOCIETY AND VALUES We are in the midst of highly competitive, sophisticated environment and multitude of problems that make it difficult to lead our lives without any problems. Every society has some distinct value system. Everyone as members of the society shares the dominant values of the society where they belong. In our society we come across many small units like Community Clubs, Institutions, Religious Centers, Prayer Halls, Charity Centers, Trusts and number of such places. These places may have their unique values. These values influence the behavior of individuals. We must accept the fact that values are a dominant force that not only shape individual behavior but may also provide room for compromise or adjust to a particular situation or environment. Every value system encourages its members to express themselves freely or conduct

themselves within the framework of the system and discourage other value systems. This will result in the behavior of the members of each society or unit to be normal to particular society that has formed the framework and abnormal to others that has formulated and practicing a different kind or type of thinking. Values of a person

are beliefs which are a part of a culture in general. More specifically, we all learn values from our family, religion and faith which may have been established by past experiences spread over a number of years. Values are a part of our personality characters that are influenced by attitudes.

5

- Dr. Seshadri Iyengar

Behavior of an individual entirely depends on the internal environment within the house and external environment in other places like the playground and school along with teachers and other children. Also, behavior of an individual may be determined by a person or how this person places himself or herself to see the world of which he or she is a part. Values provide a sense of direction to define the objective, to design a purpose and to set a goal for oneself. This may be considered as a part of value system. There may be however, certain persons who do not fall under any society, small or big, but project a different type of attitude, that may not be accepted by the society. No society or school of thought teaches or advocates bad things. Bad habits and behaviours are not taught but come naturally to a person who does not fall in the line within the framework of the society.

There may be however, other forces acting on the individuals to create things not accepted by the society. These are the frustrated people who are in the lowest frame of mind and they are not only held up in a cross road but are unable to find a solution for their own problems.

Excel Care Hospital – Excels in Care of its Patients

- T RAMESH

As a patient we go to a hospital with a hope that we would be treated properly and sent back home in one perfect piece. It is a hope and that is it! Sometimes, the hope turns into a strong belief – “yes, I will be back in one piece if I go to this hospital”which gives you the confidence that you are in safe hands. There is one such hospital which I have experienced and have blind belief and trust in. It is none other than ‘Excel Care Hospital’, situated in Banashankari at the beginning of K R Road off Kanakapura road. On November 22, I had severe COPD Exacerbation with Emphysematous Bullae with right lower lobe collapse consolidation. This is in addition to hypertension with 3 heart attacks already. On that day, I was admitted to this hospital for the fourth time with breathlessness in spite of being on oxygen supply at home since a year and half with a pressure of 4 litres. Personally, I had given up hope this time as the case was severe and I was writhing in pain and could not take even one full breath. Till last year (2015), I used to first go to Jayadeva Cardiac Institute and later based on their advice, I used to act accordingly. But, this time it was totally different. I suspected that the problem I had was Lung related and not Cardiac or Heart related. Hence I directly went to Excel Care Hospital in an Ambulance with advance intimation to my Chief Pulmonologist, Dr. Suma P Kumar on

Phone about my condition and arrival. It was not a surprise to me to see that two housekeeping personnel were awaiting my arrival and shifted to the emergency ward in a jiffy, since they were already informed by my Pulmonologist. After the initial emergency attendance on me, I was swiftly moved to the ICU and the process of my treatment began surrounded by their team and the support staff, who bound me with the high pressure oxygen mask. Later, the treatment began with the usual pricks and doses. But the highlight of the entire process

was the method in which the doctors and their team attend to patients there. In no time the patient is made comfortable and stable. Such is the efficiency of the entire team in the hospital. Care is utmost priority which they give. The patient is relieved at least by fifty per cent by this. This time around, the doctor had to treat me for many a problems to be tackled and carefully though; since one wrong move would have cost my life. Such was the condition of my lungs due to one major vice - SMOKING – which eats into one’s organs. One after another, tests were

Email: gadencityplus2013@gmail.com

conducted, scans and X – Rays were taken and the Cardiologist and the Physician along with the Dietician and lastly, the Physical Rehabilitation team were all summoned and opinions taken. Such was the intensity of my case. Much more can be written, but I would rather refrain from it for the moment as Garden City Plus is planning to write an article about the hospital and its services offered in detail in the coming issue. Dr. Suma P Kumar, Chief Pulmonologist, her two deputies Dr. Harshita and Dr. Bhavya were all so caring that I never felt that I had even an iota of a problem though I was well aware of the situation I was in, with one large Bullae in my lung which was causing the damage. In fact, Dr. Harshita and Dr. Bhavya were flabbergasted to see the Bullae on the CT Scan. They said that they have theoretically read about such large Bullaes but never seen. This is the first time they have seen one. This is a medical record that I survived with around five to ten percent of lung capacity in me with shortage of oxygen flow to the lungs. This is what they expressed. The pressure has since been increased to 11 liters and has now markedly come down to 8 liters at the time of discharge. To arrive at this decision, with my ongoing hemoptysis, it was indeed a battle that the team has won having their last laugh. During my month’s hospitalization

there, I was equally spell bounded by the team of nursing staff who also contributed on my recovery. Their smiles through the day and constant vigil on me made things that much easier for me making me very comfortable and having good rest and sleep which otherwise I had not had, at home. Many times, it is said by leading doctors after completion of their treatment on the patients that they have done their duty and now “God only should save the patient”. How true it is! God comes in the form of such doctors and their team to save the patients. I personally thank them all for the ‘care’ which I believe shall ‘cure’ me. This article is written to just emphasise on the need of care in a hospital. ‘Care’ which should be with utmost sincerity and devotion! This is what one would get to see here. The name of the hospital ‘Excel Care Hospital’ aptly fits in. This is the main purpose of writing this story. In the coming issue of Garden City Plus, we shall be covering the services the hospital has to offer and interviews of the doctors, nursing staff and the patients to give firsthand information of the hospital which will be more helpful for many patients who are in need of such hospitals. I and on behalf of our team in Garden City Plus wish all the Doctors, administrative staff, housekeeping, nursing and the team in ICU a very Happy New Year.

Animal Fact - Spring Peepers

Spring peepers are to the amphibian world what American robins are to the bird world. As their name implies, they begin emitting their familiar sleigh-bell-like chorus right around the beginning of spring. Found in wooded areas and grassy lowlands near ponds and swamps in the central and eastern parts of Canada and the United States, these tiny, well-camouflaged amphibians are rarely seen. But the mid-March crescendo of nighttime whistles from amorous males is for many a sign that winter is over. Spring peepers are tan or brown in color with dark lines that form a telltale X on their backs. They grow to about 1.5 inches (3.8 centimeters) in length, and have large toe pads for climbing, although they are more at home amid the loose debris of the forest floor. They are nocturnal creatures, hiding from their many predators during the day and emerging at night to feed on such delicacies as beetles, ants, flies, and spiders. They mate and lay their eggs in water and spend the rest of the year in the forest. In the winter, they hibernate under logs or behind loose bark on trees, waiting for the spring thaw and their chance to sing.

Eating Late At Night Can Lead To THIS Disorder

All of us have heard the old wives tale about eating after 8 pm. Do not do it, they say, since what you eat can get automatically stored as fat in the body. Night-time eating is a real issue for millions of those who just cannot seem to stop binging before bedtime. Individuals who are affected by the Night Eating Syndrome feel particularly compelled to eat a lot of high-carb, high-fat foods throughout the nighttime. People suffering from this syndrome might even eat more food after the dinner time than at the dinner. These people eat very sparingly through the day, but stuff themselves during the night-time. Some sufferers even find difficulty in sleeping simply because they cannot stop thinking about food. They may feel guilty and disgusted, or fearful even that another binge can soon happen. Sufferers were also more prone to have other eating disorders, sleep disorders and mood disorders such as depression. To ensure that this does not happen to you, never go more than 3 hours with no little meal or snack. Individuals who binge through the night-time nearly entirely crave for foods that are full of sugar and fat. These comfort foods cause the brain to release serotonin, a substance that enhances the mood and makes it easier for you to fall asleep. Source: www.boldsky.com

What’s Your Raashi Aries: This week could see you taking one step forward and two steps back at times, which might be disconcerting. You'll do yourself a favor if you slow down. Taurus: Your attention turns inward to your thoughts and feelings. And you'll find it easier to connect with and share your emotions once Mercury enters your spiritual sector on Monday. Gemini: This week could prove to be a turning point for you, particularly with a Lunar Eclipse in your leisure and pleasure sector. Feelings could run high, so this isn't the best time to get heavily involved in a romance or commit without thinking things through. Cancer: With the Sun at the top of your chart, you'll be ready to shine. However, you might need to consider your priorities before you attend to getting a promotion or accomplishing a goal. The midweek Eclipse could be the time to say whatever needs be said and clear the air in the process. In the present scenario, it seems like Google is on a spree to launch new features. Followed by the successful launch of the messaging app Google Allo and the announcement of Google Station, its time for several new features. Looking at the growing rate of internet penetration in India, on its 18th birthday event 'Google for India', the Mountain view company has made a number of announcements to make the internet more accessible in the country. In addition to the new releases, Google is up on its toes with the current re-branding of existing Google Apps for Work. Here we have compiled a few interesting developments Google is bringing to its latest version of Play Store (Version 3.10).

Website: www.gardencityplus.com

#1. 'Discover' in Google Play Books This nifty new feature in Google Play Books called 'Discover' lets you find your favorite from 5 million books available by browsing the latest reviews, news, lists, videos and more. #2. Get Highlighted with Google In the latest version of Google Play Store, Google is providing Weekly Highlights, which delivers some of the best stories from any given week all in one place. #3 Get the Originals Right from The Author Google Play's upcoming Editorial feature will give you all original articles from a variety of book authors. #4 Wait For Wifi This is the hottest topic of discussion since Google's 18th anniversary. 8. Strain the mixture back into the saucepan. 9. Add 1 tablespoon butter, salt to taste, 1 cup of water to the strained mixture and bring it to boil and then simmer it for 2-3 minutes on slow fire. 10. Pour the soup into soup bowls, add a dash of fresh cream, sprinkle a pinch of pepper powder, grated cheese and top it with 2 pieces of the fried bread pieces and chopped coriander to each cup. The soup is ready to be served! Tips: a) The tomatoes should be nicely ripe and not very sour. b) If you are calorie conscious and want to reduce butter, instead of frying the bread pieces in butter, toast the bread crisp in a toaster and then cut it to pieces. c) Carrots should be placed to boil first, because they are harder and take longer to cook than pumpkin and tomatoes. d) Do not add too much water at the start. Alter the consistency according to your requirement by adding water when you are boiling the strained mixture. ) If your soup has become very thin, dissolve a tablespoon of corn flour in a cup of water and slowly add it to the strained boiling mixture with constant stirring. (If not constantly stirred while boiling, the corn flour will form lumps).

Google to open 'India Cloud Region' In a fresh move to offer secured and improved cloud services to Indian developers and enterprise customers, Google has announced to open a new 'Google Cloud Region' which is expected to go live in Mumbai in 2017. Announcing the 'Google Cloud Regions' at an event in San Francisco titled 'Horizon' on Thursday, the company unveiled the locations of eight new Cloud Regions -- Mumbai, Singapore, Sydney, Northern Virginia, Sao Paulo, London, Finland and Frankfurt. The local region will help make Google Cloud Platform services even faster for Indian customers, enhancing differentiators that are already motivating companies to choose Google as their partner, the company said in a statement. With more than one billion end users, Google Cloud has gained significant traction in India and across the world. Globally, key customers already leveraging the benefits of Google Cloud Platform include Snap Inc (formerly SnapChat), Niantic Labs (Pokemon Go), Telus International, and Evernote. The Google Cloud Platform takes the infrastructure, machine learning and networking services used to power Google services and makes them

As India's startup community continues to grow, Cloud Platform provides the full stack of services to build, test and deploy their applications. 'By expanding to new regions, we deliver higher performance to customers. We look forward to welcoming customers to our new Cloud Regions as they become publicly available throughout 2017,' said Brian Stevens, vice president, Google Cloud, while speaking at at Horizon. In addition to its focus on Indian customers, Google is continuing to build its partner ecosystem to support customers as they move to the cloud. Promote a Culture of Aspiration with a Vision of Human Empathy

I

n the present days, the Countries’ prosperity is measured not by the beautiful buildings of Government Offices, not by the strength of the treasury but by the vibrancy and the maturity of their public and private middle and higher education institutions. As one of the first Nations to pioneer the idea of mass learning of education, India has essentially provided the ground for the simple idea that the talent, training, and creativity of its schools and Colleges is as important a factor for generating economic prosperity as a Nation’s natural resources. India is definitely influenced by its strategic geographic location, spiritual and cultural background. So it is not a big leap to simply state that, in the modern world, the educational attainment of a population, and increasingly the growth in post secondary education access, are factors that will determine the fate of nations. This widely understood fact is causing a worldwide effort to reform and reshape secondary and

higher education systems. Based on the result of our past experiences, the command on economy approaching for creating and regulating mass education in many parts of the world are withering. What is emerging is a “well planned and pre-structured opportunity in preschool and higher secondary education—essentially, a convergence, in a well defined form, in the effort of nation-states to create a more

lightly regulated and more flexible net work of public higher secondary education institutions. Some ideologists across the world have called this the “Indianization” of Secondary education, in part because of the iconic and, may resemble and draw advantages of our own epic which emphasize s and focus on Reality and truth, Ethics, morals and code of conduct, for each one of them provides motivation and character

building process. I would argue that characterization is a very important concern in Nation building, for the people are recognized by the culture of the country irrespective of length and breadth and colour of the country. We all know that some of the most dramatic reforms are occurring in other parts of the world, providing the new models in key areas such as secondary education. What is emerging is a much more dynamic and global knowledge-transfer environment. At the same time, International talent, both in terms of students and faculty, will increasingly evaluate the vibrancy of not only selective Schools and research Universities, but also the quality of National systems of higher education, as important in their decision where to go. All of these factors, and the constant interest in the higher education reforms of competitors, have led to, rightly or wrongly, a global discussion on what works best.

- Dr. Seshadri Iyengar

The intention of every Indian is to bring the technology to India instead of sending students from India to other countries to learn the technology. In the present times India is second to none and has housed hundreds of overseas manufacturing divisions which have brought the technology to India. As we can see, every second Nation around the globe has a commercial establishment in India. Now others should come to India to learn our technology- more so in the Secondary Education sector to learn the Indian way which is free from nuclear weapons. All of us have created many new things; we are all rich in education, performance and progress. We need the present day children to participate in the progress of our country. It is time we all shall create a portrait of a plan of transformation for students that will by the end, become an extraordinary vision of human empathy.
