A Circle Installed on 27th Main, HSR

t has been a nightmare of sorts for motorists and car owners and drivers to negotiate the junction at 27th main, interjection of 24th main leading to SS Palya, and cause for many

accidents in the road as it had a blind turning which affected the visual of drivers.

HaSiRu Mithra had been in the forefront leading its team to ensure safety of motorists and pedestrians alike. This led to a need to channelize the flow of traffic in order to avoid traffic. Lack of adequate lights added

to their woes. The problems thus faced by the residents on their daily routine commuting on the road aggravated the gravity of the situation which led to the formation of a circle, which is intended to be named as Hasirusthan circle subject to proper permissions from the authorities concerned. Hats off the Hasir Mithra team for their persistent follow up in this regard

and successfully finding a solution by installing the said circle. Ally inaugurated on March 29, on the auspicious day of Ugadi and was dedicated to the public. The circle was formally inaugurated by Mr. Chowdappa, ACP and attended by a large number of residents and the corporator Mr. Gurumurthy Reddy. The function was sponsored by Mr. Basheer, of Mughal Treat. KMCC Secy Mr. MK Naoushad, Mr. Narayan Reddy, Mr. Gopalkrishna (VP, RWA, Sector -2), Mr. Chandrashekar (Gen Secy, RWA, Sec-2), other committee members, team from HaSiru Mithra (Kamesh Rastogi, Lalithamba BV, Aarathi) and Traffic Inspector Mr. Ganesh Rao and his team were also present along with many othyer residents of the area. These are the people who have done the entire

ground work for this to happen. In the meantime, the corporator has agreed to asphalt the road next to Aakruthi Silverline Apartments and refurbishing of pedestrian walk opposite Rock View Hotel before April16, for the convenience of the residents of the area.Since Mr. Basheer has agreed to lend his continued support as well when Mr. Rao Ganesh told that he would keep a tab on it. Unfortunately, the same stretch had not been maintained properly and due to this lack, the saplings given by Garden City Plus

have all dried and the place is now a plain. All the related authorities like BESCOM, BBMP and the Traffic Police with civic officials worked for such an outcome for the safety of pedestrians and motorists including four wheelers. The area around the circle was a deadly Black Spot till last year, which was also incidentally cleared by Hasiru ,Mithra and its team and named it as ‘Super Green Spot’, from a perennial garbage dumping point with filth littered and a stench emanating from the place making even passing by the spot risky. In the past few months high mast lights have been installed and the place has been illuminated and operational. The circle has been painted with gardening landscapes to guide traffic flow with indications. No accident reports have come so far.

<< Continued from Pg 1 >> under the purview of the scheme of things. The main objective is social work to benefit mankind in any form. This event is organized to keep in mind the amount of hard work put in each of the tasks on hand in cleansing the area of filth to ensure clean air for people to breathe and live longer with good health. It is also to be taken note of the various other departments which are equally important to people in many ways than one. Though each of them might not be dependent on the other, it is the importance and the way each challenge is faced and countered, that counts. Political leaders and officials from all the departments mentioned will share the dais at one point of time or the other. Many programmes filled with comedy show anchored and conducted by Mr. Vikas Kalra will don the show to make the event livelier. It is a sponsored programme which shall benefit all those who attend. There will a surprise too for the

entrants. Who will be lucky? Only time will tell. Garden City Events will be in touch with all these groups and agencies and government organizations to register their representatives with immediate effect. The RWAs will have to be prepared with the names of those individuals who have contributed towards this cause in a way that has caught the attention of the residents in each sector, distinctly specifying the work done. It is such small gestures which will give the required impetus on getting recognition for the work done that makes people to even better their work the next time around. So, it was decided by our team to do this as a least that we could do from our side as a media as a social justice. Permission strictly by invitation! So, hurry up, RWAs and citizen forums! Shortlist the names of the individuals and also the total number of members with their names and telephone numbers and email ids. Entry Free!

Success Depends on Hard Work and Commitment with Optimism was rejected while my name appeared on the selected list. My hard work and commitment to complete my SSLC brought me to this level of getting appointed as an Aircraftsman in the technical stream with the IAF. Those were the days when used to visualize Air Force as just flying an aircraft becoming a pilot flying the fighters. But there is much to it I learnt on joining the Force. I had put in a lot of hard work with commit-

am happy to recount my days of struggle as a child and a teenager with no help forthcoming to lead a life with at least the barest of requirement for a decent living and education. But, despite having any support, we used to just about manage making a living. I was born in Bijapur (now, Vijaya-

pura), a place which till recently had a backward tag attached to it for its non development at a pace as it was expected to be. We had a mixture of Kannada and Urdu as the major languages conversed. Hence, we used to celebrate Rama Navami and Ramzan together without any ill-feelings and with no caste or creed attached, making the neighbouhood be at peace. I studied in a government school for

obvious reasons and all of us never knew what is communal or secular. We considered all as equals and lived. That was a time when we were happy despite all odds. I still remember the days when we never had a coin and sleep outside and never shy away from asking for rice or flour or milk from neighbours for our living. Soon after completion of the SSLC exam, all of us were only job-seekers and doing nothing else than that. But, I had noting with me to even apply for a job as it would need postage charges. One of my friends did this for me and incidentally, he had applied for both of us in the Indian Air Force. As fate would have it, he

ment in serving the country for 20 years which has borne fruit to me as person. Nothing was coming easy. Everything had to be hard earned. The final reward is exhilarating.

Serving the Force as a ground crew member had its own responsibilities and difficulties in overcoming the tasks on hand. On the whole I have enjoyed my journey from a pauper to what I am today – a respected man. My experience in serving in places like New Delhi, Garakhpur, Amritsar, Bikaner among the many has taught me to be a good human being, a good citizen of India and also as to how to lead a life including walking and talking. I can proudly say that I can today adjust to live in small rooms to big quarters or houses. After my service, I took up a job with a big Public enterprise which employed ex- Defense personnel and laid Optical Cables as a back bone of India from villages to villas. Later, I passed an exam and was selected as a Police Sub Inspector and was trained in Gulbarga in 2005, serving for seven years in places like Kolar and Bangalore. I started giving lectures as a Traffic Awareness officer to many schools in software Defense establishments. My work and contribution was recognized and was richly awarded by the receipt of Gold Medals. Today, I am an officer of a high rank

in a state Government Office. I share my experiences as motivational Speech to the IAS/KAS coaching Centers. We, at North Bangalore Ex Servicemen Association at Bangalore work for poor and distressed people and also for the welfare of the ex-servicemen community. Every Republic Day we donate computers books, pencils and educational materials to the government school. I hope poverty does not hamper your aspirations you need to enjoy each problem then I hope one day you will smile at your own previous troubles. I have written this letter only to give inspiration to those who fear living in poverty and are worried about their future. This is an example of a success story for a life of contentment. P. In spite of the success story of ‘Open Streets’ last year, participated by BMTC and DULT among others, it is difficult to digest the fact the programme has not picked the momentum it should have had by now, after starting the campaign with

and the earlier areas to adopt this to continue on a regular basis. Hence, the job is not even half done. No purpose is served by just having this programme once in an area and then forgetting about it to only claim that such an effort was made by this government and its agencies but could

the extent of reduction of motorized private vehicles in any given area is itself a boon for people to breathe and live without pollution. In fact, all the RWAs in HSR and its surrounding areas including KHHSP and also Electronics City can make an attempt to enforce the ban of motorized private vehicles in selected places in an area, rather than having the

a bang in HSR layout and few other places. The then Chief Secretary of Karnataka, Mr. Mukerjee spoke in tandem

of such vehicles on any given day. Similarly, the entire layout could be covered over a period of a fortnight or a month suitably. This will ensure at least pollution is controlled partly in a given locality on a daily basis or weekly basis. People could be seen socializing and know their neighbours too much better by spending more time with each other.

The cars in that case will have to be parked by paying a fee as per the market rate on an hourly basis. This

In the scheme of things, ESAF, has been promoting an initiative called ‘Parklet’, which is a small park that takes the space of one or more parked

entire layout come under this ban of vehicles, which could inconvenience the vehicle owners. For instance, one main road and three to four cross roads could be considered for the ban

with Mr. Ramalinga Reddy, Transport Minister, Government of Karnataka, that the awareness programme will be taken to another level by continuing to hold such campaigns often and in many other places too. Alas! Barring those few places including M G Road, not much was heard of later as a success story of promoting public transport. Koramangala witnessed the same which was organized by the RWAs there. Out of sight, out of Mind; goes the proverb. People have withdrawn themselves from this campaign as the programme itself has not reached many other areas to be in the news

A temporary parklet has to be created after obtaining proper permissions from the authorities concerned including the police. It can be decorated with umbrellas, proper seating arrangements, plants, balloons, ribbons and placards. Games like chess, ludo, skipping, hula hoop, musical chair and pillow passing can be played. Light music can be played and campaign awareness could be made. ESAF, a pan-India Ngo works to promote built environment through research, community engagement, capacity building and policy development through advocacy efforts. ESAF is supported technically and financially by HealthBridge Foundation, Canada. The government will do a lot of justice if the same is revived by planning well

of people to adopt the initiative and use public transport by avoiding private vehicles, which is the crux of the matter. What has worsened the issue is that, if rumours are to be believed that it is a publicity stunt by the government by claiming that it is in the right direction to reduce air pollution. This is the factor for creating more lung spaces for the public to utilize the same for better purposes. The space could be used to even socialize or for that matter, children could to the extent of playing games in the given area. It could either be the entire stretch of a road or just a portion of it,

the city streets, more space for people and less space for motorized vehicles. It encourages fuel free transport to have a cleaner, healthier safer environment. Pedestrian safety for could reduce the number of vehicles. It has to be continued to sacrifice more and more space for private vehicles and crib about air and noise pollution. By implementing this, spaces can be reclaimed for people and promote healthy living. Traffic congestion is reduced.

Parklets can be temporary or permanent, and can be designed to suit the requirement of the people needing to socialize or have clean fresh air. It could contain sating, plants, bicycle parking, art and paintings for children to play. The purpose of this Parklet programme is to make better use of

people to lead healthier lives, foster neighbourhood interaction for stronger local communities and support local businesses to generate more income within the community. Parklets are needed to add that human touch to the everyday life, since the demand for socializing and recreation is innate to people. Parklet activity can bring back human touch and socialization.

With age, your arteries tend to lose their ability to stretch and garlic can help maintain their elasticity. It also helps protect the heart from the damaging effects of free oxygen radicals. The sulphur-containing compounds of garlic also prevent our blood vessels from becoming blocked and slow the development of atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries). The anti-clotting properties of ajoene (a compound present in garlic) helps prevent the formation of clots inside your blood vessels.

Scientists have developed a new smartphone app that may screen for symtoms of autism by reading children's facial expressions for emotional cues. "Not only could the app be used to learn more about childhood autism, it could possibly reveal signs of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and mild traumatic brain injury (TBI) in warfighters - conditions that often have subtle symptoms and are difficult to diagnose," said Predrag Neskovic, from US Office of Naval Research (ONR)'s Mathematical Data Science programme. The app, called "Autism and Beyond," was developed by researchers and software developers at Duke University and the Duke Medical Centre in US. "Autism & Beyond" has children complete a series of questionnaires and watch short videos designed to make them smile, laugh and be surprised. Parents or caregivers use a smartphone's user-facing "selfie" camera to record children's facial movements for evaluation by doctors, researchers and software. The app's core technical component is a complex mathematical algorithm

that automatically maps key landmarks on children's faces and assesses emotional responses based on movements of facial muscles. "We analyse the video to track position and movement of the head and face, including the lips, eyes and nose - all of which indicate emotions," said Guillermo Sapiro, a professor at Duke University, who developed the algorithm. Sapiro stresses the app is not a self-diagnosis resource, but is intended to serve as a potential screening tool for autism and other developmental challenges, and encourage users to contact a physician for specialised testing. Once the autism studies are complete, Sapiro hopes to eventually expand and tailor the app to conditions suffered by war-fighters, including PTSD, TBI and depression. As with autism, facial expressions can indicate the presence of such disorders. Improved analysis of such facial expressions could lead to more accurate diagnoses by doctors and, consequently, enhanced treatment options for military personnel and veterans.
