Thank You Notes

Remembering Queen Elizabeth II

her husband Philip for his “constant love and help… He has, quite simply, been my strength and stay all these years.”

Dear Ms Katie,

I want to thank you for teaching me how to draw. You make the club at Woodcraft fun to be a part of. You taught us how to paint and mix colors I hope that you have a great Thanksgiving and enjoy your week off Thanks again for teaching and helping me in Woodcraft - Amelia Lu ('24)

Dear Lindy,

In all honesty you really do mean a lot to me and I value your presence Remember the time we got an award together? We were the only people who knew each other's birthday It's nice seeing you in the hallway or in class. Even just a little interaction in the hallways makes my morning better. I'm so thankful that we ' ve been friends for years and haven't stopped - LR

After 70 years on the throne, Queen Elizabeth II (born Elizabeth Alexandra Mary) passed away. She was 96 years old. Her life was celebrated at her state funeral in Westminster Abbey in London on September 19 with a eulogy delivered by the Archbishop of Canterbury At the end of the service, two minutes of silence was held across the United Kingdom reports CBS News. The Queen was coronated at Westminster Abbey in 1953 and it is also the site where she married Prince Philip in 1947

As Queen of England, Elizabeth avoided expressing her political views and making controversial statements. During World War 2, Elizabeth made her first radio address speaking to children who had been separated from their families (Rachel Elbaum NBC) At her 50th wedding anniversary she thanked

Around Town

When I'm not in school, I like to go to the movies at Atlantic Times Square Afterwards my friends will walk around and order food from places like Street Churros. They sell fried noodles and tteokbokki, which are rice cakes with a spicy sauce. We also enjoy boba from OneZo. On other occasions, we like to visit the Arcadia Mall with school friends and shop and sing karaoke songs at Luxy Some of my favorite shops at the Arcadia Mall are PacSun, Korheim, and Sephora. I like Cruncheese Korean Hot Dog and Potato Corner Another place we visit is the ice skating rink in Pasadena I know how to

Visiting Zihuatanejo

I spent three weeks in a rural part of Zihuatanejo, Mexico as per my yearly tradition of visiting relatives both there and in Morelia. It’s my Dad’s hometown. We go there to visit my Grandma and for the sentimental value of the town This summer I reunited with my cousin, my best friend in Mexico I attended my baby niece’s christening, wearing a special dress I bought just for the occasion. Spending 21 days in scorching 100-degree weather

with no A/C and bug bites all over my legs built my character, and for that, I couldn’t be more grateful One thing I will always enjoy about visiting Zihuatanejo are the miles and miles of beaches and lovely lakes. Despite my swimming abilities – or lack thereof – jumping into a cool body of water is one of my favorite pastimes It’s a cathartic sort of activity; I’m never quite myself as when I’m in a nice pool. My parents immigrated from Mexico to America, but sadly, like many second generation Mexican-Americans, I was never properly connected to my cultural background. These summer trips to Mexico

Students in Mr. Naka’s class were notified about the Queen’s passing and they gave her a moment of silence

Critics of Queen Elizabeth II’s legacy include Stanford history professor Priya Satia who stated that “Decolonization was supposed to force the acknowledgment of wrong. That never came because it was always masked by the continuity of the Queen ”

After 27 years as a professional tennis player, Serena Williams has hinted at retirement. With four Olympic gold medals and 23 Grand Slam titles, she has set a high standard of accomplishment for others to emulate Williams once said, “Luck has nothing to do with it, because I have spent countless hours on the court working for my one moment in time, not knowing when it would come.” In 2017 Serena and her husband, Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian, welcomed a beautiful daughter, Olympia and her life was no longer just about professional tennis

Injuries began to impact Williams’ success on the court. In December 2021 she injured her hamstring and had to withdraw from the Australian Open. “I’m here to tell you that I’m evolving away from tennis, toward other things that are important to me,” said Serena “I have never liked the word ‘retirement’, maybe the best word to describe what I’m up to is ‘evolution’.”

Pokestuf is a local favorite Alhambra eatery serving the popular Hawaiian fish dish in rice bowls, noodle bowls, and salads Poke, pronounced poke-ay and meaning “to slice,” is diced raw fish that can be served as an appetizer or a main dish and it is extremely satisfying. Poke salads contain seaweed, cucumber, avocado, and sesame seeds

A poke bowl with rice can have up to 700 calories I recommend trying the spicy salmon with sriracha mayo and I give Pokestuf a 10/10, because they offer bowls and salads that are tasty, nutritious, and plentiful Poke can be a

bit pricy, with a bowl costing $12-$15 dollars depending on the size of your order. Boba is also available with your meal If you have not visited Pokestuf on Main Street, I urge you to try it soon

Ticket to Second Chances?

The romantic comedy Ticket to Paradise stars longtime box office stars Julia Roberts and George Clooney. Personally, I thought this movie was very entertaining and fun to watch. It is about a divorced couple going to Bali to attend their daughter’s wedding with a guy that she met briefly while vacationing in Bali

After a bitter divorce, David (Clooney) and Georgia (Roberts) tried to avoid each other at all costs However, when their daughter seems to rush into a hasty marriage, jeopardizing her career as a promising lawyer, the parents are forced to intervene. Slowly but surely David and Georgia rediscover why they first fell in love as their relationship mends while visiting Bali

Overall, this movie made me laugh a lot I thought the humor was unique but appealed to everyone By filming on location, it made the story feel more authentic. The actors did a great job portraying the character they were given. I believe this movie’s message is that even if you want what’s best for your daughter, it is better to guide her rather than force her in the “right direction ” Parents should learn to let their children shape their own lives

Everything about this movie felt like home to me I remember when I was younger I used to watch movies with my parents with a similar plot and it never failed to help us bond closer together. Something about this movie also has a nostalgic feeling to it but I’m not sure how to describe it I rate this movie a 10/10 and I will definitely watch it again when it comes to streaming services

Caring for Your Dog

actually need 1 to 2 hours of activity each day If dogs are not walked and allowed to play outdoors they may chew on cushions, shoes, and damage your backyard The local park is the best place to exercise your dog because it has more grass and dirt Cement and asphalt can damage footpads You can run with your dog on days with moderate temperature. Playing fetch with your dog with squeaky toys and soft balls are also great sources of exercise. Don’t use sticks which can injure your dog’s mouth If your dog is panting heavily or dragging its feet, it is probably a sign of too much exercise

My dogs are like members of the family. I spend quality time with them every day at home and at the park where we exercise. My three dogs have learned to trust me and my family. We provide them with a safe environment with plenty of food and clean fresh water. We trained our dogs when they were puppies and allowed them all the exercise needed “The average adult dog needs about 20 to 45 minutes of moderate exercise, such as brisk walking, twice a day,” states Petco Active dogs like mine

It Takes Two on Steam

It Takes Two is a video game that can be downloaded on Steam for $40. It is a game that can only be played by two players and both players do not need to own the game to play One player can own it, and the other can download the friend’s pass to play with anyone who owns it The game can be played on PlayStation, Xbox, or Microsoft Windows, and it is also crossplatform. Since this game has an intense amount of graphics, it is launched using a special software called Origin It Takes Two is mostly an adventure game and it has an interesting storyline about a married couple who were planning to divorce. It is also a puzzle game in which each stage can be solved by the two players working together The game has seven chapters and each of those chapters brings the players different tools and

Avoid leaving your dog alone at home for too long Isolation can lead to behavior changes like separation anxiety, depression, disinterest and even destructive tendencies. The Humane Society states, “dogs are social and typically prefer to be with others… when a dog doesn’t know how to self-soothe or cope, they may turn to chewing or clawing stuff around the house, or barking or howling ” Properly caring for dogs can be expensive and time consuming, but my family agrees that my dogs are worth these little sacrifices because they give us so much back in return.

abilities to be able to solve the puzzles on that chapter There are also special minigames that are optional to play and are found in any random parts of the game. Because the two players need to work together, the display of the game is showed by both of the player’s screens side by side There is no goal of the game because you can go to any chapter at any time, however the experience of the game is better if you start from chapter one and make your way to chapter seven. This helps keep the storyline going and you can understand the game better Overall, It Takes Two is a fun video game with an adventurous storyline that keeps the game going

Printing in 3D

Three-dimensional printing, also known as 3D printing, is an advanced manufacturing process that turns a digital design into a physical object The object is made by laying down consecutive layers of material until the entire product is finalized. 3D printing makes it possible to create complicated shapes with less material than traditional production processes Designers utilize 3D printers to generate product models and prototypes quickly According to PC Magazine, they are increasingly being used to create items such as shoe designs, furniture, tools, gift and novelty items, and toys

Students in Mr Cardenas’ 21st Century Learning class were assigned to create a 3D design of a keychain using the 3D software Tinkercad. The keychain was to be personalized by the student, incorporating their name and original design During the process of creating the keychain, it was essential to be fully conscious of the size and dimensions in order for the entire design to come out cleanly from the 3D printer. Students have also created Christmas ornaments and models of machines

Since 3D printing is of greater quality and superior to conventional industrial methods, it provides numerous benefits to manufacturing businesses. 3D printers are quick and easy to use, inexpensive, and entirely versatile. Before 3D printers, fully creating a product could take months or even a year; however, with 3D printers, designs can be created in a matter of minutes or days 3D printers are more cost-effective in terms of production techniques because only a few operators are required for the system It generates less waste and does not require any experienced technician labor

Imagination & Creativity in Visual Arts

This year the students in Ms Dale's Art Class create paper mache mushrooms for Garvey’s Theater Production of Alice in Wonderland. Paper mache ("chewed paper " in French) is a crafting technique that uses paper and paste to create objects First the students inflated rubber balloons and then draped strips of paper over them with paste which served as a binding agent. When the paper dried, the outer layer hardened and was ready for decoration The students created and painted mushrooms of all shapes and sizes.

Other class projects this year included sketches and illustrations of different people from around the world for the show, "A Small Part of the World " Inspired by

Disney's "It's a Small World" attraction, students created unique people wearing traditional clothing from around the world. The sketches were pasted around the Garvey Theater for the evening show

In addition this year students studied the color wheel and shapes to create portraits of elves, snowmen, the Grinch, Spiderman, and other interesting subjects for sketching The color wheel helps artists blend colors for the proper mood of a project Red, blue, and yellow are primary colors that can be used to create different colors. For example blending red and yellow produces orange while blending blue and yellow creates green. The color wheel also helps artists distinguish between warm color which convey energy and joy while cool colors show peace and calmness

Visiting Vegas

During winter break last year, my family and I took a 3-day trip to Las Vegas. The drive there was unpleasant but it was very much worth it When we were in Las Vegas, we stayed at the MGM Grand which was enormous and the rooms were very luxurious Even the bathroom was extravagant We had access to a pool and hot tub that were both smaller compared to other Vegas hotels I’ve visited. The hotel service was exceptional. Although MGM has restaurants inside the resort, we decided to go out and eat elsewhere. We mainly dined at Asian restaurants however, we also took a chance to

check out Gordon Ramsay’s famous Hell’s Kitchen. Even though I didn’t see Gordon there, it was still amazing to see the red and blue team competing to prepare the best meal Neon lights fill the busy streets of Las Vegas at night, making the city look like a rainbow torch. A CVS near the MGM Grand was decked out with glistening neon lights, as if it were a Gucci store There were also Vegas versions of Paris and New York, including smaller models of the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty. This year Coca Cola was highly advertised all over the city. Christmas in Las Vegas was costly, but good fun for the whole family

She’s never raised her voice in class, yet the class is well behaved I think that she would like Space Jam 2 because she is a Lakers fan

Ms. Alvarez I enjoy exercising in her class. She encourages us to live a healthy lifestyle. She is a good role model for students who want to be physically active

Mr Celis He is a chill teacher who teaches us how to have a healthier lifestyle through physical exercise. I’m glad to be in his class.

For Grandpa

It's times like these where I really think about you, Grandpa and Tia It’s been a while since I’ve seen you both If I had to choose a regret I’d have to say Not being able to show you how I’ve grown

I did cherish every moment with you two I loved going to church every Sunday to see you and grandpa Both as happy as can be I remember the smile on your face when I would use the 5 dollar bill

you gave me to get shaved ice and share some with you

I remember when you would come over on Christmas Eve and we’d stay up waiting for it to be 12 so we could open the presents singing Christmas songs, sharing stories, and laughing

I remember your laugh, and I miss hearing it

I remember when you would always be so happy when I would visit you

And whenever I’m saved by the bell, or just getting extra time to do something

I think of you two watching over me, smiling I will always remember you two and how much fun we had I just wish we had more time together

But I'm grateful for all the time we had together I remember the last thing you ever got me

A lego set And it is my most prized possession along with the hat you wore when you died

I'm just happy that my last words to you were “I love you, grandpa”
